ETS is the worst transit system in any major city in Canada. It is at this point impossible for me to get to work on time no matter what I do - I'm out there an hour and half before I have to be at my location which is less than a half an hour (driving) away, and I'm always late. I'm going to learn to drive so I can get away from ETS forever. read more

Around 12:19 in the afternoon at Century Park, on the way to Southgate, bus 707. there is a particular bus driver is really grumpy and rude. That's really disappointing to see -- as a bus driver, you represent our city, and kindness and respect should be part of the job. I was honestly very disappointed. read more

It leaves too early, making it incredibly inconvenient for people who actually need to use it. The timing is completely unreliable, and overall, it's just a shitty transit system that doesn't seem to care about the passengers who depend on it. read more

It is sad to see how the ETService is changing. The number 4 bus driver was very impatient she even swear at me while my 3-year-old son is with me. The way she spoke to me was very rude just because I ask her to explain to me why she has to leave before I secured my sons stroller, and I called the city to complain about her and they didn't do anything about it, I guess Canada Is becoming with less value to people. May be the city of Edmonton need to traine them well that they work for the people. read more

Very frustrating system. The 51 route is one of the worst I've experienced. They are always late, and if they are not, they are early and won't update the time. So as you devise other means to go to work or home, you see the bus pass by (after saying already departed or coming in xx minutes) Also once in a while, they should also clean the bus seats. Some of these are a lil gross. read more

Ets used to be an ok way around, as long as you were able to deal with the consistent late buses. Now though, your dealing with that as well as the arc card terminals not working which then charges you because you were able to tap your card getting on the bus but not when your getting off. 7/10 it doesnt work. The past 2-3 weeks atleast one or even both buses have their terminals messed up. read more

ETS Edmonton Transit System - Public Transportation Near Me - Edmonton, Alberta

The 916 Lewis Farms route during after school hours is in great need of improvement!! Boarding students on the bus to the excessive point where it's like the inside of a sardine can, is unacceptable and more importantly not safe! If the driver ever has to come on hard to the brakes, multiple bodies will go flying through the front windshield! It's apparent that with this many students boarding on this bus route for after school, another larger bus should be added or a larger bus used to properly accommodate this many passengers during this time. I have on multiple occasions seen near empty longer and larger buses being used for Express routes at this time. Why are these buses not used during the busy and overcrowded time on the 916 Lewis Farms route? This is beyond ridiculous and unacceptable especially for a city transit the size of Edmonton!! I also want to note that today because of overcrowding and near losing my balance weaving around students standing up in and blocking the aisle and the bus exit door, I ended up losing my balance and nearly fell over along with losing my Arc card and the lanyard holding it. So not only do I have to replace the Arc card at an extra cost to me, I also have to replace the lanyard which was specially ordered online. Ridiculous and shameful service!! If I could rate this 0 stars, I would!! read more

If you ever need more than one bus, which is nearly guaranteed with how the system is designed, be prepared to miss multiple transfers. Haven't had a bus show up at the designated time in years. Every bus is early or late and it's a crap shoot which it will be. The crazy part is this day and age should easily be able to track bus locations and estimated times. read more

ETS is by far the WORST transit system I have ever dealt with. the bus drivers don't give a crap and will leave 5 mins earlier than scheduled almost every time or just not show up. the drivers are completely rude and are not helpful. it takes WAY longer to get anywhere than it should and if there is a speck of snow on the ground you might as well stay home as you won't be getting anywhere anytime soon. ETS GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER. oh and one more thing, I would say 70-80% of customers are let on for free. maybe if you stopped letting all these people on for free you'd be able to afford to improve your transit system. read more

As mentioned previously it is a huge mess. They decided to shut down part of the lrt line at the worst possible time. Edmonton is so spread out and has a lot of people who use transit. We need the lrt line to get around. Prices keep increasing and soon it could cost 5 dollars per trip. In the last 15 years bus passes went up by about 20 dollars. The good things about it are that low income people can get discounted bus passes and arc cards are now available so people don't have to use cash. read more

It's awful, the buses are not coming on time and the people are waiting for bus so long l, in the summer it's okay but in winter people will freeze while they are waiting for bus. In the Google map it's saying the bus is delayed so it's okay but suddenly you see that the bus comes and you are not at the bus stop yet. Another big problem is this that the buses are not coming and when they comes , they are coming 2 or 3 together I mean what the hell is that. Sometimes it says that the bus will come in 4 mins and I run or walk fast but when I get to the bus stop I wait more than 10 mins. read more

Some of those stingy drivers need to wait for someone to sit down or stable themselves...driving off while someone is still trying to sit can cause some injuries...for example i was trying to sit and the driver drove off i hit my leg so hard and almost bumped my head too..they need to do better than this or transit will be held accountable for something serious one day read more

BOLD ROBBERS! I had a terrible experience with ETS service! I bought bus ticket from the machine at Coliseum, it didn't accept payment by card, then I had to pay cash. Normally 27.5$ for 10 tickets, I inserted 30$ cash, then the machine swallowed my money immediately, then it was dead! No tickets came out, no receipt, nothing at all, and no ETS agent there for help. Then I called the ETS help line, and the lady advised me to try again to buy new tickets. I said that I didn't want to take risk to lose more money, I only wanted my money back. Then she asked me info and made a report, saying that ETS would hanle the case within 7 BUSINESS DAYS. And when I got the call from ETS agent, they said that I only reported by words, I had no evidence, no receipt at all, and the best they could do is to give me back NINE tickets. I asked "how you calculate that way? it's 27.5$/10 tickets and you still owe me 2.5$ to make 30$, now you wanna give me back 9?". They kept blaming me that I only report by words and no proofs to show. What the heck in the world that their machine failed to vomit any proofs and now they ask me to show proofs? I asked them to open the machine to check the cash or check the camera, they kept rejecting, and said the best they could do is to give me 9 tickets. I got so mad, but had no other choice but got the 9 tickets, swearing never ever use their machine again! read more

Has to be the WORST service in the world! It's like they schedule the buses to leave as soon as the train arrives. People who are travelling after peak time are usually stuck waiting 20 - 30 minutes at the transit station. What's worse is the security. I do not feel safe on the transit property and I'm sure many do not also. The LRT stations and transit centers are filled with sketchy people. I've seen a few even do drugs. The buses mostly come early or really late and the buses that do come early refuse to stop for people trying to catch it. SOMETIMES at the transit center too. I got off the train with 3 minutes until the bus leaves and it had already left a minutes early so I ran the other way to where the bus stop was and waved to the driver bus I was completely ignored. I had to wait 30 minutes to get home. The Cleanliness... Are the buses and trains cleaned? Because most of the time I see the seats dirty, the floors riddled with garbage. Makes one not want to sit in the seat. read more

I used ETS pretty much all the time throughout my 3 days in Edmonton, and from a tourist point of view, it does its job serving us. However I can see lots of improvements needed in the system. The two major tourist attractions are obviously Downtown and West Edmonton Mall. Amazingly, there is no LRT service to WEM (yet). Fortunately there are a lot of routes connecting these two nodes, however service really sucks once afternoon rush hour ends. As for the LRT, I felt it was more comfortable than the C-Train, only because the loads aren't as extreme. It's comfortable, relatively frequent, and relatively reliable...all that makes me relatively satisfied with the system. For a city with a population just over 1 million, the transit system I find isn't bad. Of course, this is from a tourist point of view, and probably residents have a lot more beef with it. read more

Edmonton Transit is complete garbage. You're better off walking if you intend to arrive at your destination in the same day. Otherwise you have to pay to stand and wait for the bus that never comes. read more

I took ETS for ten years and I never will again. It wasn't great before but the quality went down sharply when they cut back the routes in 2021. Why should it take me an hour and a half to bus from the downtown core to my job in the industrial area of the west end? It's faster to walk, and I did for a summer! Buses are up to 10 minutes early or late, so if you need to make a connection, good luck. The buses themselves are filthy and full of weirdos. You have to watch your back at the transit stations. The drivers like to get into screaming matches with the riders regarding masks and fare. I had a driver stop the bus and yell at me cause he thought the non English music blaring from some old woman's phone was coming from my phone. Sure buddy. So not only is ETS inconvenient and unreliable, it's also unsafe and unpleasant! Hooray! I will never use it again. Cutting ETS from my day was a massive quality of life improvement. Ubers and my own two feet work just fine. read more

ETS is good during peak times when I need to go downtown. There are 2 buses in the neighbourhood within a 5 minute walk and when traffic isn't busy and no delays, I can be downtown within 30 minutes. It's great as often it's no more than 15 minute wait until the next one. Coming home it's good but they usually run late by 5-10 minutes during peak times. With the proposed changes it won't be as convenient as there will be no bus to go directly downtown. Hopefully they won't make the change. The buses can get busy but I often can get a seat and the person beside me respects each other's space. Going downtown for just over $2.50 one way is ok. Often the drivers will give a transfer for 2 hours not the 1.5. read more

this had to be the absolute worse experience I have ever had. I had to jump on the bus today because I had a flat tire. The old bus route system was pretty good .I could get on one bus not far from my house and get to many places. After they changed it a few months ago, funneled everything thru the local transit centres and eliminating half of the routes, i have cut back my transit usage drastically. I go to the website and look for a route to somewhere and see all the connections and just think "why bother,it's just not worth it". I get a laugh out of some routes where one option is all walking and the time to get there is the same as using a bus. If their goal with the new changes is to get people to stop using the system they are succeeding. I guess that's the green new deal.Nobody moves, nobody burns carbon. When they put in their proposed electronic pass system where we pay by the km and get rid of seniors' passes it will kill even more ridership. Then there's lowering the speed limit everywhere to 40 km/hr to slow buses down even more. And even after the province dropped covid mask mandates the City of Edmonton keeps them on buses because they just can't let it go. I'm sure some merchants are also suffering because of the changes. Next year we will have a new mayor and new city councillors with even more radical new 'visions' .Woo hoo! read more

Unreliable, and Inconvient. No matter where in the city; South, North, East no bus on any route is EVER on time (maybe once a year, if your lucky). I hate being the person who says,"well I've traveled to such and such and their transit is so much better than Edmonton's" But yeah I've traveled to several places (Toronto, New York City, Madrid, Tokyo, London, Hong Kong) and I've learned that our little Edmonton Transit System has much to be desired. I took ETS regularly in University, and I still use it (mostly lrt) a few times a year (for special events and such). The LRT, while not huge, has expanded to several stations (remember when University was as south as she got?) The bus schedule confuses me. ETS isn't really a travel friendly transit system. Their app takes a while to load and the trip planner just puts addresses in Google maps (thanks I could do that myself). I know there were supposed to be a few buses with readout screens of stops, but not all. ETS is pretty pricey. It's $3.25/ride and a day pass is $9.25. Sometimes I'd say it's worth getting a day pass, if you'll be on the lrt/bus more than three times without a transfer. Usually what I've done in the past is get a 10 pack of tickets for $24.75 (they're sold at 711s around the city). Save some money. I wish we'd follow Calgary's example with the C-Train and have a no-fare zone for downtown, but I doubt that's happen. When the trains and buses are on time it's great, and for the most part the lrt is generally sort of on time (within a few minutes). Buses can be later, especially since they're driving on the road with other vehicles and there's traffic, weather issues, constructions, and all that jazz to deal with. There's also a lack of night time buses, and as Lyndsey pointed out some routes are very restrictive, which makes it hard for people to get around after "normal working hours." Some of the LRT stations now have wifi. That's a nice touch. Wish the buses did too, but the stations are something. I wanna like ETS more. I like the idea of public transit, being more eco-friendly, not having to drive all the time, but I don't believe that what we pay for transit is worth the hassle, and unfortunately I'll probably just keep taking ETS on occasion and drive most the time. read more

Buses are constantly late/running behind. I've been taking transit for years and lately it's just been getting worse and worse. I can only afford public transit and I take it to get to and from work, and each day I'm cutting it closer and closer to my start time. And 311 suggests NOT to use the green transit app which is the only app I know of, so that makes it even more confusing and frustrating, read more

Fucking horrible service. Busses don't show up half the time. Fuck this city's bus system

I only take the bus if I seriously seriously have to. And even then I'd prefer to call a cab. If you're in a busy, high traffic area like downtown or the university, it's not so bad cause there are almost a dozen routes passing through. But if you're farther out, like near the suburbs, forget it. It takes forever for the bus to get around, and sometimes I honestly wonder if the bus driver fell asleep or just forgot where they were supposed to be. It's mainly the layout of the city though; you need a vehicle in order to get around the city because it's so spread out. On the other hand, you meet some very interesting characters through public transit, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it. I saw a drunk guy try to hit on a girl once on the train. It was harmless, and funny at the same time. Other times you'll see couples making out like it's their honeymoon ... that, I'd rather not see (get a room, people!). Two more beefs I have with the public transit system are 1) they got rid of the free afternoon rates in the downtown area, and 2) what is with the putrid orange upholstery on the trains? I know the colour doesn't really matter, but I can't stand it ... honestly, anything is better than bright orange. Service tends to vary of course, depending on what bus route you take. My experiences have mostly been good ones though. I had a bus driver when I was in high school who was so friendly, he gave out candy canes to passengers during the holiday season. So there are perks to taking transit now and then. Plus it's good for the environment! Still, my need to get from A to B sometimes overrides my guilt, and I hitch a ride in my boyfriend's car. It just saves me so much stress that way! read more

Worst transit system I've ever used. Buses are routinely late, or don't bother letting passengers board from connecting buses. Bus drivers also routinely don't change signs. I love the ETS and I hate the ETS. I love it when the busses show up on schedule. I love it when they are clean and the drivers are courteous. I love it when the routes actually go near where I have to be. I hate the ETS when the buses are late, crowded, smelly, and dirty. I hate it when I can't find a bus to get me where I need to go. Some parts of the city are woefully under-represented by the ETS. Others have what seems like dozens of buses running through thm every few minutes. I often use the front-loading bike racks on some of the routes. More than once I have been stranded far from home because the bus came along without a rack - while another bus that is not supposed to have a rack passes me by at the same stop! There just seems to be no rhyme nor reason to how the ETS operates. If things could be streamlined to include routes running smoothly and buses maintained so that they do not break down so often, I would have a higher regard of this service which is really important to those of us trying to live sustainable lifestyles. read more
