This place sits between an authentic Mexican place and an overly commercialized Mexican restaurant. The food was good. Surprised when the tacos came out on a whole platter. Don't see that very often. The pickled radish was a good touch and Birria taco was fantastic. The enchilada for me was just okay. I got a draft corona to drink and they didn't bring it with a lime! The restaurant is big. Kept the same decor and layout as the previous Mexican restaurant that was here before. We sat in the bar seating area. The service was a bit slow as the bartenders had a somewhat long walk to get to the tables. read more

I love tequila and mezcal cocktails, and was excited to try this new restaurant, particularly as it is a sister property of Harpoon Willy's that I have enjoyed through the years in both Brielle and Robbinsville. Regrettably, I will not be dining at Red Agave due to its questionable HR policies. It's unfortunate when an enthusiastic and otherwise capable employee who commits to full-time employment is let go due for "not fitting in" or for not generating enough sales. Are servers expected to upsell dessert and tequila bottles to a sparse lunch crowd? Doesn't seem fair, particularly in a start-up environment. read more

Pleasantly surprised by our experience. We walked in after work and the place was pretty empty, maybe one other table. Sat in the bar area in a booth. I'm short and it was hard for me to get into the booth -they are boosted up so high. My legs dangled down without reaching the bar beneath, which wasn't the most comfortable but it was ok for the time being. I've never sat in a table like that where it was so elevated off the ground. We were given enough time to talk and hangout without feeling rushed to order. The house margarita was surprisingly very good. I really liked the chicken quesadilla. We also split flautas, empanadas, guac and tacos and everything was fine. They should have menu items that are ordered more often on the happy hour menu. I'm sure we'll come back for the convenience. It's clean and looks nice inside. Hopefully they'll draw a bigger crowd. read more

I went to Red Agave for their grand opening to celebrate my boyfriend's aunt's birthday, and wow. What an experience! The second we walked in, we were sat right away. The place is gorgeous, like a piece of tropical art that makes you feel like you're on vacation. They even had live music that kept the vibes fun and lively.The staff was amazing, Super sweet and super attentive. They even spoiled us with some complimentary goodies and fresh chips and salsa (so good!). For drinks, we tried the Red Agave margarita, mojito, and piña fuego .Each one was a hit.We ordered a little bit of everything, from the street corn soufflé to main dishes in between, and ended the night with tres leches cake and espresso flan. Every bite was incredible.Honestly, everything about this place was fantastic! food, service, vibes were all incredible. If you're looking for great food and a fun atmosphere, Red Agave is a must. Shocked that Monroe has an amazing new dining option! Super friendly staff, great ambiance and lots of great options at Red Agave. Our group got a pitcher of red sangria (delicious!) and they also have a full bar with an extensive wine menu. Ava, our server was so kind- explaining the menu and gave great recommendations as we chomped on their salad and chips- This was THE best meal and so easy and yummy. The Shrimp salad was full of plump shrimp- with a perfect dressing. The chicken fajitas were good with rice and beans, guac and salsa. The carne asado tacos looked amazing- my mother was so impressed. Other diners had the ahi tuna tacos with a warm slaw- delicious and fresh. For dessert had the tres leches cake- the strawberries and ice cream rounded out the sweetness of the cake. They have a grand opening in September but they are ready to go now. I was really impressed with Red Agave. Went on a Sunday evening and it was pretty empty. But we had delicious spicy margaritas, and some solid tacos. The salsa was pretty good too, with some nice smokiness to it. I will definitely return next time I'm in town. read more

We had a reservation. They still did not put us in the regular dining room. Even though there were many tables opened on a Saturday night. They had no tap beer available they were having problems. OK we went for mixed drinks. They were decent but small. We did not get appetizers. We went straight for dinner. Everyone got a burrito. The short rib burrito was decent. Had a nice sauce to dip kind of like a French dip burrito. The Carnitas was decent not great. They provided free chips and salsa, which was a nice touch . They had no desserts available. We live on the other side of Monroe and finally got around to trying Red Agave last weekend. We were happy we did! Our server, Chanice, was super and guided us to some of her favorites on the menu. The street corn dip was accompanied by a generous helping of tortilla strips, was delicious and paired beautifully with the flight of margaritas. My wife opted for the Halibut - definitely not typical Mexican fare - and found it perfectly prepared and delicious. I had the Bavette steak which was also cooked to perfection and delicious. Both entrees were accompanied by a generous helping of vegetables and potatoes. There are a bunch of delicious sounding items on the menu and we look forward to going back to try them! read more

The place was almost empty but it still took almost 10 minutes for a server to come over. Once she did, her service was great and she was very attentive. I had ordered the Carne Asada Enchiladas. The meat was way overcooked and tough. The skirt steak they say they use should be tender and marinated. This was tough with no flavor. Our first time here was good. The 2nd time we walked out after 15 min of no server and a table that came in well after us got immediate service. This being the third time with almost bad service and an awful dish we will never be back. Other Mexican in the area which are much better. read more

Kind of on the fence with this place. The decor is very nice and our waitress was very good. The food was ok. The portions weren't particularly large, the rice and re-fried beans on the dinner plate were possibly two mouthfuls at best. The chips and salsa given upon arrival was a nice touch. I've went to the previous Mexican restaurant that was located here, and now this one and neither has ever been crowded. I hope this place succeeds as I'd like to try them one more time to see if things have gotten better. read more

We are very disappointed in this restaurant. We arrive there at 5:15 in the afternoon four people, and the restaurant was not even 1/4 full. Hostess asked if we had a reservation we informed her no we were not aware we needed a reservation because we got two flyers advertising the restaurant and did not say reservations required. She said let me check for you. The manager came out and told us that they expected people in 45 minutes and that they will not be able to serve us. We left and will not return. We could've ordered and had our food delivered before anyone showed up. Not a way to treat people trying to start a new business. In all honesty, we cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone due to the way we were treated and the pricing of their menu items. read more

The tacos were so salty that they were inedible. The food was subpar. The waitress had to be called to get more drinks. She was nice but the service was terrible. after sitting down and waiting 15 minutes for our waitress to greet us, we got great chips and salsa. these chips are the only reason this place is getting 1 star. it took another 15 minutes to get 1 soda, keep in mind it was not busy. there was my table of two and one other table. once i got my soda we ordered 2 appetizers. and after another 15 minutes passed our waitress was walking by and we stopped her so we can place our orders. we placed our orders and in 10 minutes our entrees came out... still no appetizers! right after dropping our entrees off we got our apps. they came out mildly warm and do not order the wings- disgusting. the entrees were also horrible. probs the worst mexican food i've ever had. if your establishments service is going to be horrible, your food can't be too. read more

I went during lunch and got the chicken tinga tacos. it tasted nothing like chicken tinga just like some old chicken they just left sitting in chicken stock. the chicken texture itself was extremely pasty and dry. taco bell has better tasting and quality chicken than these guys. the few good things was maybe the ambiance of the brand new empty restaurant and the staff was nice. the toppings for the taco like the rice, salsa, cheese, and pickled onions were good and high quality but the chicken was terrible. wont be back unless they get a new chef lol read more

The sizzling Fajitias come out not sizzling . How long were they sitting. The vegetables weren't washed and cooked with the sticker on. The margarita was served in a Rock glass. This is a perfect example of what not to do in a restaurant stay away. read more

This is a rebirth of another failed Mexican restaurant that didn't make past COVID.. I was hoping for a better experience but not the case. The food is low quality and portions are small. We had the tacos that were not stuffed with anything for flavor and meats were cold. The rice that accompanied them was bland and minimal in portion. The burritos are just as average with bland rice and the chorizo is horrible in flavor. The service was good they were attentive and friendly. The only food item that was decent were the yucca fries.. This is a one and done and stick to local Mexican restaurants in the area as another chain that falls short. read more

The food was very good! The fajitas were delicious and came with lots of sides, including guacamole, sour cream, salsa, beans, and rice. The only thing missing from the fajitas was shredded cheddar, but our server brought that immediately after we asked for it.
