This review honestly breaks my heart to write…read more I've known this shop since the early 2000s -- pre-2007, back when it was a real staple in the neighborhood. I'm talking about my entire high school years. My friends and I practically lived there. We bought mixtapes, sneakers, chopped it up -- we probably had more attendance in that store than we did in school. If you're from the Bronx, you already know the era I'm talking about. Back then, the place meant something. It was part of the culture. Unfortunately, what it's become now is the complete opposite. The owner's business practices are not honest, and that's the hardest part for me to say -- because he's known me since I was a kid. Despite that, I was sold sneakers under questionable circumstances, including tags being cut out, and when I tried to return them, I was flatly refused. No resolution. No accountability. That experience stuck with me because it showed a pattern: upcharging, no flexibility, and no respect for the customer -- even longtime ones. And when I started checking reviews later on, I realized I wasn't alone. Others have said the same things. I left the neighborhood, went to college in New York, lived upstate, lived in California, and came back. Every time I stopped in hoping things had changed -- they hadn't. If anything, the business felt further removed from what made it special in the first place. Mixtapes aren't even a thing anymore, which was the main reason many of us supported the shop back in the day. Without that, all that's left is the way customers are treated -- and that's where this place continues to fall short. This isn't written out of spite. It's written out of disappointment. Sometimes communities outgrow businesses, especially when they stop serving the people that built them. As someone who supported this shop from the beginning, I can honestly say I no longer recommend shopping here, especially for sneakers. I hope the space eventually goes to a business that treats the neighborhood -- and its longtime customers -- with respect.

Casa Amadeo, you come in with stupefying nostalgia for me when I attended Junior High School nearby…read moreand walked past this shop to hop on the BX4 to go home. Located on Prospect Ave by the 2 & 5 L trains in The South Bronx, Casa Amadeo is both Puerto Rican-focused and owned. Some of the greatest Bronx success stories have the humblest roots- and Casa Amadeo, truly fits that bill. A story that is too long for me to tell- but let's just say the man behind Casa Amadeo- Miguel Angel Amadeo and its namesake shop, is renowned, still remains as the only and longest running Latin music store in The Bronx- hell, probably in all of the U.S AND has its own Wikipedia page. Without giving my husband any Father's Day clues as we saw a show about Casa Amadeo's history on NYC channel 22, that just sparked my curiosity to come here on a Friday after work to gift him a Puerto Rican Salsa cowbell. Weird as it sounds, the cowbell was used for several things- including music as it became a staple in the percussion part of most Latin Tropical Salsa bands (isn't used for Merengue music) to create a steady beat, glue all the rhythms together and hold the music down. That's the role of the cowbell in Salsa. And since hubs has been honing his Conga, Bongos and goblet-shaped Darbuka drum skills, coming to this shop, was a no-brainer. The shop is small- with a bit of every Salsa music instrument imaginable. Mr. Amadeo was wrapping things up the day I visited but helped me tremendously when he suggested a low pitch cowbell instead of a high pitched one. What do I know? And that was that. It was an easy $60 for a cowbell. You know how you meet someone who has a gazillion accolades and they're just downright arrogant asses? Not this owner. He's so charismatic. It's amazing how, with enough determination and a will to get the job done to establish Casa Amadeo to the level of where it's at now and continues to thrive. This shop isn't just for Puerto Ricans- this shop is for anyone who enjoys Salsa music period!

Buying and Selling at Book Off What a cool store. So much to…read moresee. Unfortunately, it is lousy to sell at and expensive to buy at. First, Selling. I brought in three statue items unopened in the original packaging. I checked on ebay for what the items sold for (not asking price but sold price) and it added up to about $600, I lugged the items over there and had to leave them there because they wouldn't get to them right away. The people/kids working there were very nice. I went to have lunch and got the text to return, and they are offering $150. So I picked up the items and turned down the offer. Again, they were very nice, it's just I wasn't willing to accept 25% of the value. I figured at worst it would be 50%. But I am better off getting closer to the actual price on ebay. Now, Buying. Lots of very expensive and exiting things to get, and I didn't have time to price check things so much, but my son is into the Nintendo switch and i spotted a used Marvel VS Capcom game he might like. It was $34.95. But just in case, I pulled up Amazon and looked the game up. A brand new one costs $21.79. So it would have been a terrible idea for me to buy it there. I guess if you are leaving work and need a quick gift, you might stop in and pay too much for an item. If you are in real trouble and don't have time to wait for an Ebay sale, you might consider selling your collectables for 25% the value, this place might come in handy.
