Good overall location. Don't let the outside throw you off - it looks small from the outside, but once you head down with either an escalator or an elevator, you can see the full size of this location. You can also access this from the side of the building down a flight of stairs. This one was busier than other locations I went to, though this was also on a weekend which might explain it. It's standard as far as what Barnes & Noble generally carries. What they don't have, they can always order for you. If you're looking for blu ray/DVDs, you won't find any here at all - which is a bit disappointing. They do have vinyl though. Only had interaction with one employee and he was friendly. Most others I saw were with customers. Located in the Vernon Hills Shopping Center mall, there is plenty of parking. It's a generally busy shopping area, so use caution in the lot. A good location, but I don't see myself coming back here unless I'm in the immediate area and need to. read more

One of my favorite locations. It has most of what you are looking for and a nice cafe/restaurant as well. I usually head over there after having brunch at Serafina, which is usually twice a month. It has a wide selection of books and it has a nice little area to study and work. Note: it is currently undergoing renovations, the escalator was out of service on 7/19 but the elevator works fine. One of my issues is that the bathroom is always a mess but I have found that is true of every B & N I have been to except in NJ. read more

I had the most unusual experience today at the Starbucks located inside Barnes & Noble. I went to the Starbucks counter and asked a middle-age woman if they had "Water"? After repeating my question, a couple of times, she directed me to the barista. When I spoke to the barista and asked the same question "do you have water?" I was received with the same, quizzical look, like they never heard the word "water" before in English? I was beginning to think I might have use another word: aqua, agua, eau, wasser, mizo, pH 7 to get my point across! I didn't see it on the menu so I began to wonder if they carried it? Finally, the barrister had a lightbulb go on! She asked if I wanted a glass or a bottle? I told her a bottle would be fine. $3.25 for imported water from Fiji!!! I decided to take a vegan friend to BN Kitchen for their birthday because the menu lists vegan friendly options. This was my first time visiting since early 2020 (Prior to this I came here all the time. See my review 3 years ago) The place was fairly empty. We arrive around 3 pm. After waiting about 7-8 minutes to be seated i had to ask the barista to call someone over. After we were seated, no one came over until i asked someone to bring us water (about 10 minutes later). As my friend was ordering they asked about a vegan bread option for the plant based burger. This burger comes with brioche bun. Why would anyone service bread made with milk and eggs on a plant based burger? The server said she didn't know if there were other options. After a blank stare, I asked her to find out. She comes back and says we can sub with sourdough but I have to charge you. (Yeap, charge for a downgrade). We agreed. The meals were ok, not as good as I remember. The sourdough toast was over toasted and the edges weren't edible. When the bill came it appears they don't actually have a way to up charge for bread. Instead we were charged for avocado... With the many times I've shopped in the area, never thought about stopping by here. But Lydia Bastianich brought me to this location for a book signing and some Q&A. This B & N is the best used bookstore- if not the only one in the area or surrounding it. Doesn't look like much from the outside and as you drive through the Vernon Hills Shopping Center, you'd probably assume that the corner space has a small selection of books. Nope. It's actually spacious when you take the escalators downstairs to the many wall-to-wall shelves. There's even a record section with an awesome list of 33s...I was in Vinyl bliss. Style is simple with a clean design. Lofty ceilings with metal pipes run across all which ways. Assistance here is premium- I thought! 'Barnes & Noble Kitchen' (closer to the escalators-downstairs), adds a real nice touch here for grabbing not just beverages- but a light nosh if you want. Set up at the 'Kitchen' seems cozy with warm lighting, low and high tables, a communal table and for additional seating, they have these roomy leather (like) chairs. I honestly don't know if Yonkers' Barnes & Noble, gets all the foot traffic it deserves...... I think it should. But in the meantime, this B&N has become a destination spot in its own right with their in-house cafe, quality and top-notch events. read more

I have to say every time I come to this Barnes location the bathrooms are disgusting. I constantly have to alert a worker that it is so dirty and unusable.I enjoy the restaurant and all the workers are very nice and accomodating. Its unfortunate that the grill is still not in service since the renovation almost 3 years ago now. Can't imagine what the hold up is? the menu is decent but not really for a hot dinner. I enjoyed the menu when the grill was in service. Hopefully the grill in the kitchen will be back soon this year! Please keep up to date with the cleaniness of the restrooms! My local Barnes & Noble has recently closed (which, by the way, brings the count of bookstores in the Bronx to ZERO). Even though I don't read much for pleasure, I like B&N purely for browsing - walking through the aisles, looking at all the books, maybe picking up a little something. I was excited to see that a business finally opened here - this spot has been empty for years, ever since Borders closed ~6 years ago. While it's not super close to me, it's not a hike either so I took a little drive to Scarsdale today to check it out. There are a number of facets that make this particular B&N stand out from its peers. First is the architecture of the store itself - it sits as the end of a strip mall, so from the outside it doesn't look like a typical B&N. Also, the store is located in the basement (like Borders was), so as soon as you walk in you take the escalator down. They decorated the wall upon entry with letters mimicking a word search - a nice touch. Secondly, the decor of the store is totally modernized and new - lots of clean lines, big open spaces, chairs and tables throughout the store to sit and work/read; absolutely stunning. Finally, the biggest thing that makes this B&N stand out is that instead of a cafe, they have an eatery called B&N Kitchen. From what I can see, it's a combination beverage bar/sit-down bistro with table service. Towards the front theres a barista station with stools to sit, as well as couches and chairs, and towards the back there's a sectioned off area with more restaurant-style seating. I didn't get a chance to try something, but the menu looked good. Overall, this is a gorgeous B&N - the layout is fresh and inviting, and the B&N Kitchen really makes this location unique. This Barnes & Noble location was previously Borders but I am not complaining! I absolutely love what it has become! The bookstore portion, paired with the somewhat upscale Barnes & Noble Kitchen, makes this area an ideal place for both work and a dining experience (if that's what you're looking for). I had the pleasure of indulging in the latter. The maître d' and the waitress Bella were both very professional and courteous. My order of lemon ricotta pancakes was absolutely decadent. The ricotta was carefully accented with the lemon's zest and garnished with a fresh, sweet berry medley. I didn't even need a drizzle of maple syrup to enjoy this wonderful brunch item but it's there if you need it. It was $10 for the pancakes alone, plus tax and tip. As for the environment for work/study, the space is very comfortable and not at all disruptive. There are plenty of outlets for charging at the long communal table and free WiFi. The WiFi is slow at times but a rectifiable issue if you use a Personal HotSpot as backup. The affiliated cafe serves Starbucks coffee (though it is not a participating location if you are a Starbucks card holder). That being said, you do receive a 10% discount on any purchase if you are a Barnes & Noble member. read more

The best part of this place is the food plus yes, Starbucks. I mean, I already love Barnes & Nobles to begin with but this place is aces! We tried the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes (serves until 12pm only) and the BLTA sandwhich. Pancakes were huge, fluffy and flavorful. Love the berries and strawberries on top of it. The BLTA was huge too and it was super yummy! It has smoked shoulder bacon, tomatoes, avocado (omg), onions and arugula served with chips. We used to eat here frequently from the moment they first opened. Great menu, pricey for a bookstore but very good food and selection. Now from 2023 on their menu is 1/3 of what it used to be. I cannot fathom why they would do this. I can understand trying to simplify the menu but removing 2/3 of the menu? I ordered my usual grilled cheese and tomatoe soup. Soup was great, the same but Luke warm. The grilled cheese? So badly slapped together with barely any cheese. This happened to me the last two times we went. I thought they had a bad day the first time so I went back a second time. Don't bother. Save your money. I also noticed it went from extremely busy to very quite. When I first heard of the Barnes and Noble Kitchen concept, I really didn't know what to expect. But when I saw the the space, it totally made sense. B&N's usually have Starbucks cafes where people hang out to do some work or study anyway--might as make it into a cool modern space with great ambiance! It definitely has a cool enough vibe to enjoy a cup of coffee (or wine!) with a book in hand. The food choices are a bit fancy and pricey for a bookstore cafe, but I guess it works for the Eastchester area. The menu seems to jump from brunch foods (like pancakes and avocado toast) to full-out dinner entrees (like chicken and salmon). I ended up getting a glass of red wine and the cheese board, which I really enjoyed. I would most likely try their brunch food and possibly their salads or burger if hungrier, but not totally convinced I would come here for real, dinner-like food. It had the usual delicious hummus BUT it did not have its usual array of veggies. It had the typical supermarket carrots and celery stalks. It also had paper thin slivers of peppers that you couldn't even dip. Also, if you're expecting to get their yummy hamburger, it is currently not available as they are fixing the kitchen. That's what I was told but it will be back. The second issue for me was that both sandwiches that were ordered were a tad greasy not crispy. Was any of this a deal breaker? This B&N is hands down my favorite one out of the dozens I've attended during my lifetime. In addition to the layout of the store and outstanding staff, this one has an awesome cafe that serves great food in addition to their beer and wine selection. Yesterday, I had the soup and salad special which consisted of tomato soup with Kale salad and their fried potatoes. It was delicious. I had a local Pilsner which was addictively delicious. Our host was so wonderful and amazing we thanked him again and again and tipped him well. My wife ordered the guacamole and chips and loved it. I had no idea the food here was that delicious in addition to the laid back and friendly atmosphere. Because of this pleasant experience, I renewed by B&N card for an additional 10% off which means I'll be coming back here more often. You guys gotta check this place out. Menu has significantly changed. They offer sandwiches only in place of the entrees. The sandwiches are not great lacking flavor very basic. I would rather go to a deli. I and my best friend came here for lunch. I had Tomato and Basil Pasta with Meatballs! One word. SUPERB! I have pretty much high standards when it comes to italian cooking in a non italian restaurant and it is really good! Ambiance is really nice. The only thing that i need to comment on is the consistency of service. It took us a while to be seated to think there were a lot of available tables. Orders came in a very reasonable time. There could definitely be more croutons & dressing and there were some parsley leaves that were a bit off putting for the ceasar salad.
