You put your phone on silent ONE minute after you texted me???? He then, through text made it sound like, oh well maybe it wasn't ment to be...AGAIN ????? So DO YOUR RESEARCH, MAKE SURE YOU WANT A FLAKEY NON COMMUNICATOR TO BE IN YOUR HOUSE TO DISRUPT YOUR LIFE FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS.

The job would require cutting the laminate countertop by about an inch or two on the sides. We also needed to replace the wood in the cabinet below due to warping from various drips and spills (the home is 16 years old). We put the job out to three contractors, Republic Renovations being one that came highly recommended. Without coming over to look at the job or even discuss it on the phone, Bryan asked a couple questions via email and then sent over a bid. His wasn't the cheapest, but having done many remodeling projects myself I felt like it was fair. Fast forward a couple weeks while we picked up a new faucet, I reach back out to Republic Renovations to let him know we were ready to move forward. I explained that the new sink has a single drain (the old one has two) so we'd need to rough out new PVC to go from the disposal to the wall. I also reminded him of the full scope of the project, including the wood on the bottom. We get a new bid back from him with about a 70% increase in total project cost. Again, I take a fair minded approach to it, sign his contract, and we schedule a date for a week out. Less than 24 hours before our scheduled work, Bryan sends me an email saying he won't be able to make our appointment. Fine, I ask when we can reschedule. His response, "I'm not the man for the job. I do apologize." Really? When prompted why he even took the bid and discussed the project with us for well over 3 weeks, his response was simply, "Your frustrations are understood, apologies again and for any confusion!" So word of caution here. Don't bank on this guy following through with your job. Other than the slow start procuring our faucet, there's no clear reason why this guy flaked less than 24 hours before the day he requested to do the work. We've been more than fair with his original bid and questionable increase in cost, we even opted to have him do it on a Saturday at his request. The lack of professionalism here is pretty astounding. Update: so his response is about not having a plumber. Wish he would have told me about that before he scheduled the appointment, and that explanation would have been nice via email when he cancelled. Again, folks, buyer beware.

I had a random list of items that came up on the inspection for the house we had just bought that we knew we wanted done. Darrell has a broad knowledge base on home repairs and was able to fix everything on the list quickly, and also gave his recommendation on what could wait (or what would be easy and cheaper for us to just do ourselves). Fast forward a few months-we have continued to call on Darrell for various projects throughout the house. I'm 9 months pregnant and trying to get it all done before the baby comes and Darrell has risen to the challenge. He was able to repair our outdoor kitchen, match the stonework, wire in some new lighting and helped talk us through (and out of) doing a pricey pergola addition (I appreciated his honesty!) He most recently installed closet shelving, matching the existing and mostly useless laundry room shelves (with his perfectionist attention to detail) . Being around during the day while contractors are working in the house, it's nice to find someone who not only knows their stuff but is also just a genuinely nice guy to be around. I'm grateful that we've found a 'Darrell of all trades' handyman that I can call on for whatever comes up with our house over the years.

He was dependable, professional and precise. We could tell he took pride in his work which is something you want from a contractor. He always kept us in the loop, and although unexpected expenses can often occur with no fault to the contractor, we were right on budget through the end of the project. Chris desired to be paid upfront before he's done any work. This would be a concern for me as a homeowners; in a day and age were there are those that do take advantage of homeowners. I am not implying Chris is a scammer but there's got to be a better way to build trust, then it being one sided. Homeowner paying all the money upfront, fearful of a disappearing act. They pose as contractors, they pick up the money with no intentions of doing the work. My thoughts are the homeowner and the contractor should set a workable milestone agreement. in a 6 to 8 hour work schedule. The homeowners pays for the materials and the homeowners delivers the good to their home and not the contractor. Each completed task done by the contractor, the homeowner looks at it and pays for that tasks at that moment. It allows peace of mind for the contractor and the homeowner that no one will be taken advantage of.

He took the countertops off in my kitchen then realized he couldn't match the countertops to the island countertop. He also installed countertops different than what I had selected. The trim on the kitchen island has already come off (less than 3 months after completion). Instead of installing toe kicks he put in baseboards which do not go all the way up and now there is a gap under my kitchen cabinets which lets in quite the breeze when it is cold. I told him about all of my issues and he didn't care. He didn't bother to even 'try' and fix anything that I had issues with and just got his money and walked away. I hate the way my kitchen turned out and told him that to no avail.
