Wowowow what a place! This may be the best vegan food I've ever had. As a vegetarian I occasionally miss certain meaty foods and Real Fake Meats did not disappoint. My husband and I shared the buffalo wings and I got the chicken Caesar wrap, both very flavorful and filling. We had been traveling all day so we needed a hearty meal. I recently popped into RFM with some family to try it out for the first time and we were not disappointed! Their menu is fun and approachable, with the same sort of things that you'd see on many casual restaurant menus - burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, bowls and poutines - but done with their in-house vegan products. I'm not sure if their breakfast sandwich is just a weekend thing (it's not on the menu on their website), but I was keen to see what that was like. We posted up at a counter along the street-side windows to people watch, although there is a bit more seating further inside (you don't seem to see pics of it here or on Google, but there is more seating than for just four people!). My niece and nephew both got the donair. It was actually their first one ever, real meat or Real Fake, and they seemed quite happy! I appreciated the flavour profile and the crisp edges of RFM's facsimile of Nova Scotia's famous mystery meat. My wife went for the Curly Fries Supreme, which utilizes classic McCain curly fries. Getting the deep fryer treatment, they're *much* better than being done in an oven at home. All the more so when so generously topped with cheeze sauce, "sour cream", tomatoes, green onion and seitan "bacon". Banana peppers made an added appearance for a nice little punch. I very quite pleased with my breakfast sandwich (and side of au naturel curly fries). The vegan sausage patty had an herby hit to it, and the cheeze slice was ooey gooey and pleasantly salty. I'm not sure what the "egg" was, but it was a little on the soft side, with the white falling apart; I'm not sure if that's to do with its inherent structure or its cooking. I've known Lauren for a few years now and have always been insanely impressed with her skills and talents as a chef. To have her open Halifax's first ever vegan butcher shop is a huge deal and she deserves so much success. Real Fake Meats offers vegan cheeses, meats and light fare meals and take home dishes such as mac and cheese, sandwiches, Donairs and more. I've tried many different offerings from them and absolutely everything is incredible. The meats are moist, have awesome texture and taste! The cheeses much the same. You can't go wrong with a stop in to RFM! The atmosphere was always great but it's next level since they expanded to the spot next door, it's amazing. The food at REAL FAKE MEATS is absolutely delicious. The place is small but there is some seating inside. The fries were fresh, hot and crunchy. The soup was hot and delectable, perfect for a cold day. I am visiting Halifax from California and wish we had a REAL FAKE MEATS where I live. read more

Their steak (tastes kinda like Salisbury steak) and ribs (comes with BBQ sauce) are both good - I wish they made a ham more similar to their ribs but flavored like ham with ham glaze on it instead of BBQ sauce though. Their Seitan burger is their best burger and is really good. Their maple bacon is great, even better than their ham slices (is especially good on a sandwich with fake cheese), and their Montreal bacon is also good. The popcorn chicken is good too. Their Oreo bars are really good, and so are their chocolate chip cookies. The mac & cheese is great, not as amazing as the lasagna but still really good (and it has peas and fake bacon chunks in it). read more

Stopped here one day out of curiosity to try it out, got a burger and mozza sticks,even the mayo was all vegan, I was skeptical about how it would taste but it was surprisingly delicious, my son loved the mozza sticks and didn't even realize they were vegan until I told him. It was a bit pricey since each item is sold separately but the staff was helpful and friendly. Overall I was very pleased with the service and the food. Would definitely recommend. read more

Finally, somewhere I can buy my own vegan meat. If you're looking for delicious plant-based foods in Halifax, look no further. They have the best vegan donair - the texture and flavour is just like the real thing. When in doubt, try the special. They also have ready meals for quick and easy meals at home. I'll start by saying I am totally biased..... but for a reason. I met Lauren a few years ago simply by attending one of her retreats for fun with a friend. I'm a vegetarian so this was right up my alley. One retreat turned into multiple retreats and then also turned into attending quite a few of her cooking classes. As a result we became friends. All that being said her food is what originally got me hooked. If you're looking for a vegan version of some of your favourite things or just want something fun I absolutely recommend trying this place out. You can go for a quick lunch or take "fake meats" to go to use in your own cooking. Prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. I'm also a huge fan of local business and think we all should support them. The "ribs" are delicious and the donair "meat" is perfect for that donair fix you may be craving. She puts love and care into everything she creates and is always creating more. I don't give 5 stars lightly but this one is well deserved. read more

The products were satisfactory, but a bit pricier compared to meatless butchers in Vancouver or Victoria. Unfortunately, they're limited to fresh or cooked offerings in-house and focus more on the frozen offerings. If they could offer more fresh offerings, I might consider purchasing more often. But overall, if you're willing to spend $9-15 on something frozen, then by all means. read more
