Service was friendly. Atmosphere was lovely. Aside from this there are absolutely no redeeming qualities about this place. The baking items were barely cooked. Mushy and flavorless. The eggs Benedict was on a scone that was also undercooked and literally crumbled beneath the eggs. The Hollandaise tasted as if it possibly came from a mix. The potatoes even appeared to be cooked ahead and reheated. And we were there when it opened! I would never return for the food. Truly awful.

I didn't even know this existed until recently and tried it out today. The rating is 5 for location, views and atmosphere being in a fabulous garden overlooking the city on a hilltop. We were concerned about service and the food as there seems to be very mixed reviews. Service was actually pretty good, considering there was only one server for the entire restaurant and the owner which helped her out. Food was not bad but nothing to write home about. We had the classic benedicts served on a scone and the Hugo cocktails. Would rate 3 for food and drink. Restaurant decor itself is dated but had a certain charm to it. The dishes are a little pricey but understand it is necessary given the prime location. Wouldn't return for a meal but would revisit for a nice walk around the garden. The accessibility is not great for wheelchairs or those that have mobility difficulties. You park at the bottom of the hill and walk up to the cafe (look for the signs to direct you to the cafe). The footpath are stone stairs through the garden and are decently steep. Wheelchair access is on the side on gravel path but still steep.

Born and raised in Calgary but having gotten used to living in The Okanagan - this hidden gem is a very pleasant surprise nestled in the inner city! With its charm and rustic feel, the experience feels like a weekend getaway rather than just a meal. One can tell that both the food AND service is about quality & not quantity; but yet you leave on a full stomach! Now really...isn't that what it should be about? :-)

I've lived in Calgary since 1986, and yet I only recently discovered this place on the hilltop of Readers Garden. It's a beautifully restored heritage estate home that feels utterly secluded from the bustle of the city below. I ordered the free range buttermilk chicken sandwich with the featured soup of the day--delicious and filling, with fresh, high quality local ingredients put together with care.

Still beautiful flower bed of blooms even in late September...

The walk up to the house is spectacular as you wind your way through indigenous plants, wild flowers and trees indigenous to Southern Alberta and the Calgary area.

But our hunger got the best of us, so we ended up stopping in town for lunch across the street from Element Cafe. Our next mission was to get caffeine and a little something sweet to finish off lunch. Element Cafe achieved both of these goals. I ordered an Americano and it did the trick. But I really enjoyed the Birthday Cake cookie. The cookies caught my eye because they looked a lot like the mountains we were about to see in Banff: they had many ridges and depth to them. The guy working in here even offered to heat them up for us before I could ask, so he really understood the keys to our heart. My only piece of feedback would be: when you heat the cookies up, don't be shy! Push that dough to the limit and let your cookies be enjoyed the way God intended: like they just came out of the oven. With that being said, the guy was the picture of a nice Canadian. Don't let his slightly under heating on this day shape how you view him as a fellow human. He was great, as were his cookies and his coffees.

This time around I tried something they offer by reservation called afternoon tea for $40. We each got to pick a tea for our tea pot and had about 8 options. The tea itself wasn't anything special. We tried the chai and the alforno blend which both didn't taste very strong. The afternoon tea deal also came with a snack tower, the bottom consisting of savory sandwich bites, and the top two levels with pastries and sweets. The things that stood out to me were the lemon meringue, fruit tart, and the carrot cake (the cream cheese frosting was really tasty). Overall, this was a super cute and fun thing to try. I'd definitely recommend it if you want to try little bites of various things they carry.

One for now and a ham and brie sandwich for later. Everything was so delicious and fresh. I had the brisket bowl with scrambled eggs. So amazing. I want to replicate this at home but fear it will take some work. The gremalata was superior. The cronut was so light and almost melted in your mouth. The raspberry filled coconut cookie was chewy and light. The breakfast with sausage eggs and potatoes and toast was enough for two. We couldn't begin to eat it all and took some away for later. Love this place. Wish we had one. We received multiple recommendations to try this from locals as well. Lots of seating. Craft coffees. Bakery and savory and food for all hours. This is the spot for you!!
