CINDERELLA KEEPS SECRETS I went wedding dress shopping 5…read moremonths before my wedding with my Aunt. I was very happy with my experience at Cinderella's Secret UNTIL it came time for alterations. The head seamstress Charlotte insisted that I travel all the way back to Mt. Vernon from Canada to have alterations because she said she knew the dress better than anyone else. So as instructed, a month before the wedding I came back and she pinned the dress with me and we talked about using the train to reinforce the back lace. The dress looked stunning and I felt it was well worth coming back to have her do the work. I asked when I should pick up the dress and she said as long as I wasn't going to lose any more weight it didn't matter. 2 weeks later I get a voicemail from someone name April "confirming" my waist and bust measurements. I assumed this person was her assistant and although I thought that was kind of strange I called back and left a message. A couple days later I got a message saying the dress was ready, so I bought a train ticket for a week and a half later-one week before the wedding. I get to the shop, try on the dress ,and to my horror not only was the bodice too tight, the top bunched and completely exposed my breasts from the side. She had cut out the armpits of my dress!! I called the attendant in and April comes and is talking to me like she knows me. I asked about the other woman and she says she doesn't know what I'm talking about. She assures me that she can fix the issue, that she didn't think my bust was that small, and that I can pick it up the following week. I see the owner Jan and she tells me the dress is beautiful. I tell her I'm not confident that it's going to look right and she says you'll be gorgeous. I repeat that I'm not happy and she says that if I had come in earlier they could have fixed the dress the way I wanted it. I go to pay for the alterations and the assistant asks if I paid already? "When Charlotte quit she took a bunch of stuff with her." And here ladies is the problem, I had a right to know that the woman who assured me she was going to do the work, who pinned the dress for me, quit! I should have been given the option of taking the dress elsewhere or coming in for another fitting. Instead this new hire altered my dress based on 2 measurements and they tried to play it off like it was my fault for not coming in earlier. So my aunt picks up the dress for me on Tuesday and drives up with it. Well by "fixing" the puckered top April took more fabric out of the sides. The bodice was even tighter and the lace was bunched up. I spent the rest of the week trying to find someone to help me fix it. Everyone I consulted agreed that the alterations were unprofessional and bizarre. We had to add garish side modesty panels, replace the zipper and move the lace panels. I missed time with my family and my rehearsal dinner. But the dress still didn't fit properly. I was only able to wear the dress for the ceremony and a few photos and then I had to change. I wrote to the owner to ask for a partial refund and to her credit she sent me $100 to cover one of my train rides to Mt. Vernon, but she blamed me for not coming in earlier, she said "I stand behind the alterations work we did" ending with "money won't mitigate your frustrations and nothing I can say will help either." Sage advice, but this is business and Cinderella's Secret was not transparent and delivered an inferior product.
