Spent a weekend thrifting. Hands down my favorite stop for new and gently used hardcover and paperback books. The prices are beyond reasonable. If you are a book lover this is a must stop. You will not find a cheaper read in person or online. Great people, great selection, and you know your money is going towards a fantastic cause! They have a large selection of used books, clothing, and more. My grandma, my mom, and I last came to the WAIF Thrift Store on Monday the 2nd of December 2019. We were out to look at some Christmas houses, run a couple of errands, do some shopping for dinner supplies (I cooked the dinner), and shop for miscellaneous items at a couple of thrift stores (here and Island Thrift). The store is neatly organized by merchandise type and I had fun looking through the items on sale and found two stand out items I had to buy. The first item was a small sign reading "Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden." which is so perfect. Husbands can be exacting and highly discerning when it comes to making sure things for their honey are just right. This piece has found a permanent home in my bedroom since I bought it. The second standout item I purchased was a tennis/not-so-tennis movie titled "Match Point", I had bought a copy online that couldn't play on USA formatted DVD players so I was watching for this movie and low and behold WAIF Thrift Store had it! My grandma, mom, and I watched it later that same day after I cooked dinner for all of us. While we were watching the movie, my grandma had her laptop open and the Seahawks-Vikings game playing on mute off to the side. The Seahawks might have won that game on the scoreboard, but the Vikings won in spirit. We all enjoyed the movie and were happy I purchased the movie so we had something to watch together for the last night my mom and I spent with grandma on our visit. Part of why I like shopping at thrift stores is the shared experiences we can have both in shopping, and in adding to the story/history of a particular item. The store wasn't too busy on our most recent visit during the day on a Monday in December, the aisles and shelves were clean, and all the workers and other customers we encountered were kind in their interactions. Prices were very reasonable and the DVD offerings varied enough that one could come here to pick up a couple movies last minute. Loved the selection here- mix of housewares, home decor, lots of glass (all kinds), books, some clothing sections. Prices are very reasonable, and higher value items are also priced fairly. The clerk was helpful, wrapped my breakable purchases, and even let me know about the upcoming sale rotation. An awesome benefit is helping local animals- so really a win win. read more

This thrift shop is quite big and located just off Midway Blvd. The selection of items is a typical assortment of standard thrift shop fare, with a heavy emphasis on glassware. The thrift store seems to be run off of donations and a chunk of the profits go towards WAIF's mission for animal welfare. I'm big-time into thrift stores and this is one of my new favorite ones it's not got the most incredible selection but what it does have is a good variety of things across the whole spectrum from some household goods to some clothing's some small furniture kitchen stuff all the things that you would need at a reasonable price and even some high-quality items also at a reasonable price definitely not steals, but that being said priced very fairly. Small thrift spot, and the items are on the fence, even for it being a second hand store. Some clothing items had stains and tears which usually don't make it to the rack, but with it being such a small town, I don't think they have much of choice if they want to keep their store stocked. The place is next to animal shelter and I believe they work hand in hand with each other which is lovely! read more

If you've been to the unimpressive WAIF thrift store in Freeland, you'll be pleasantly surprised by this much bigger, more reasonably priced location. It even has an in-store cat! The store takes up two floors, with men's and women's clothing, kids' stuff, jewelry, and dishes on the ground floor. The upper level has books, furniture, art, and housewares. There's a lot to look at, but it's somewhat disorganized because there's so much stuff crammed in everywhere. The kids' section in particular was messy and had things scattered all over the floor, but many areas were so cluttered and overfilled that it was hard to get a good look at things. The prices were reasonable and they had a good 50% off sale going while were there. I found a vintage Pendleton sweater for under $2, and the book selection is pretty large and reasonably priced. If you're into weird vintage art, they had a lot, but the prices were higher than we felt it was worth. They also have a bunch of inexpensive grab bags of boys' and girls' items, which would be a handy bribe for good behavior while you shop. Because this is a nonprofit store and proceeds go toward helping shelter animals, I like to buy stuff from here when I can. The staff are friendly and they have a display featuring some of the shelter kitties available for adoption. Not sure if the store's resident black cat is one of them, but I was certainly tempted to take him home with us! read more

I really like this thrift store! Their new location is much less cramped feeling and just overall has a brighter and cleaner feel than the old location. I love looking for treasures at thrift stores and WAIF is always fun to shop and I can often find some great items. The only negative for me is that the pricing for a lot of their items can be a bit optimistic at times. But they do offer frequent sales, so I always hold out for items to go on sale. My family are frequent shoppers at the OakHarbor WAIF location. This isn't your typical thrift store where everyone's junk goes to be resold- WAIF always has great merchandise, and their stock is always being rotated. I just recently scored a $200+ cat condo for $20! The shop has rotating discounts on the different departments in the store. Sometimes they even have a 50% off deal on anything in the store! The store is mostly run by volunteers, whom are always a delight. We always leave satisfied :) read more

I have visited WAIF in the past, however have stopped due to certain facts I find a bit "off-putting". 1.) Prices have gone up to the point where its reminiscent of a Boutique than Thrift. They could auction items on Facebook, but that will proably mean the will need to pay taxes or something because a purcase will be recorded. 2.) Although they provide a military/Sr. discount, They Will Not Give ou a Receipt of your Purchases. Why? It can't be the incapacity in the till-machine. What a jewel WAIF thrift store is! There are actually -2- Waif stores on Midway, the newest being in the Dollar Tree shopping lot. They have many items that can change from day to day. The prices are very reasonable (watch for customer appreciation half off days!!) the staff are helpful and nice, the store is clean and the profits help animals in need. I LOVE this store! The cat adoption center is located in a nice big friendly attached room. You can watch the kittys playing through the windows or interact with them inside. They even have a large basket filled with donated cat and dog food, totally FREE to the customers! I would recommend this store to anyone looking for a bargain and who likes to know that their dollars will be spent on the precious animals. read more

Awesome thrift store, in our opinion, best on Whidbey for selection, organization, helpful cheerful staff, prices. Fantastic treasures to be found. Love that majority of proceeds go for helping care and feed homeless cats/dogs on North Whidbey. And how cool is it, that when someone needs a hand feeding their pet, they often have cat or dog food available. Highly recommend. read more
