    They even have an upstairs

Yay community thrift! I love thrift shops, so it doesn't matter if I'm visiting from Hawaii to a quaint town called Freeland or digging around a thrifty store in Seattle, Los Angeles or Phoenix. If there's a thrift store, I will find you. What sets this thrift store apart from others I've visited is the fact that they have a year-round Christmas room upstairs. I don't think I took photos, I should have! The only things I purchased were 1) toy skeleton with incredibly detailed articulating jaw for a Halloween project ($1.00 yay) and a novel called 2) Diary by Chuck Palahniuk. Normally I'm not a Palahniuk fan as I'm a non-lover of all things dark and depressing, but that was the only thing I could find that was remotely familiar, and it was a great price (75 cents), and although his books are full of despair, desperation and doom, he does tend to write well. I didn't feel like spending $9 at the airport bookstand, so I went with the 75 cent book filled with human suffering.

Filthy doll for $9. Looked like something you'd find in a dumpster

I really want to like this thrift store. It's well organized, large, has friendly customer service and is not nearly as junky as the neighboring WAIF store. My big complaint is the inconsistent pricing. It's downright comical. Some of the toys are priced as high as buying brand new and the condition is barely considered "fair". Many of the kids items simply belong in the trash, yet are priced as high as $20. I see the same pieces of furniture every time I go. No turnover because they have 50-year old chairs priced at $50-75 when they should be $5. Kid books are $0.50-$1.00 which is all I buy when I go. We have a found a few classics for my kids. I usually shop in Seattle for thrift items and it's shocking to know the prices are 1/2 that of Senior Thrift in a city that has a way higher cost of living. Senior Thrift really needs to reevaluate their pricing strategy and price things to sell. I have heard many people state they want to donate to Senior Thrift, yet the store is not accepting new donations. They desperately need new items! If only they could make room for them, by getting rid of the junk.

I've been here a handful of times and I go back and forth on whether it's a 3-star or 4-star. Let's call it a 3.5-star and round it up because it's SO huge inside. The first couple of times I tried to go here, I was unsuccessful, because it has limited/weird hours, especially in winter. This time, in July, they had unadvertised extended hours, so they're open on Friday and Saturday evenings until 7 pm. If you have your heart set on going, it's worth calling ahead to ask. It's in a large two-story barn of a building, but you can't really see how big it is until you turn off the street and head down the drive into the large parking lot. Clothing, shoes, jewelry, and kitchenware is on the ground floor, while the upper floor has books, art, home appliances, and sporting goods. Women's clothing and shoes tends more toward the polyester senior-comfort stuff, not so much with the cool vintage. They have an especially large selection of vintage glassware (many in sets) and suddenly a really good selection of books for cheap. Lots of good modern fiction and literature in paperback for $1.25! Generally, prices are decent, but I haven't really ever known them to have awesome sales -- they don't do colored tag discounts or anything like that. More often than not, I don't buy anything when I go, but more because I just don't find anything I like than because the prices are high. If you're thrifting on Whidbey, though, this is probably the big one to hit.

Stopped in at Community Thrift on a recent trip to Whidbey Island. I'm not one for thrift stores, bu the person I went with was. As we came in, I was amazed at how nice this place was. The outside is decorated with miscellaneous stuff like trikes, super soakers, toy horses all near the roof. Inside it's really open, well organized and full of great stuff. Maybe it's Seattle, but most thrift stores I've been to are picked through so that only crap remains. Community Thrift had tons of great stuff an a really nice staff. To top it off, it allsupports services for seniors. A must stop thrift store on your next jaunt through Whidbey Island.

Great staff and a very smooth operation! We went Sunday am to drop off donations. Fifth in line but it moved very quickly.

This place is two floors high, it's by far the largest thrift store I've been to. There are lots of good deals to be found!

Whenever I stop by the shop I always find something cool or unique there. Quite a bit of jewelry…read moreand always reasonably priced. Got a great deal on a pair of boots there as well. The guy who was working is always nice to me. They do need a better range of book though. I definitely suggest stopping by and checking it out if your nearby.

This odd little shop consists of a small house and an outdoor tent area. The front room is more what I'd call gifts and collectibles: costume jewelry, cheap toys, and novelty items (like those plastic plant beads that you're supposed to use instead of potting soil). The back rooms have more thrift-store-type used stuff: a couple of small racks of coats and clothing, but mostly old VHS tapes, books, and music. They do have a fair amount of $1 books, but many are old and dated without exactly being vintage/antique. The employee was intently watching the end of a movie when we walked in and didn't bother to greet us, but later got into a heated discussion with another customer about the type of engine on a used car the customer was trying to get the owner to buy, or something. The shop is so small that you can't escape anyone's conversation, so... it was pretty awkward. I guess this is a thrift shop in the sense that there are inexpensive used items for sale, but it appear to be a privately owned place and makes no mention of any proceeds going to a charitable cause. If you really want to thrift on the peninsula, I suggest you keep on going to Port Townsend, which at least has a Goodwill.

Love love love this shop!!!…read more The owners are fantastic, patient, and so kind. You'll find great deals on pretty much everything in the store. Theres a variety of items including clothing, records, books, kitchenware, fabrics, decorations, art, jewelry, sporting equipment, video games, manga and more!! They also sell locally made items and crystals. Overall this shop is a hidden gem and I always make a point to visit every time I'm in the area. There is something for everyone here. :)

Privately owned thrift stores can be a very mixed bag, but we decided to take a chance on this one…read more(okay, maybe the donut stand out front had something to do with it). Turns out there's a lot to see in this store! As you come in, the main front room has some housewares, men's and women's clothing and accessories. Another room toward the back has books, movies, and music, and a smaller room has furniture and more books and movies. The clothing selection isn't huge and was kind of old-but-not-vintage, if you know what I mean. I wasn't blown away by anything we saw and couldn't find anything to buy. However, the lady working the counter guessed my boyfriend's size correctly and went to the back to see if they had any blazers or jackets in his size, so that was nice of her. Prices seemed kind of high for what they had, often several dollars more than a similar item would be priced at Goodwill. The best part of this store was the books/music/media. They had a surprisingly large selection of new literary fiction and book-club-type books at reasonable prices -- definitely worth checking out. There are also some fun random things, like the train-rides-of-the-world VHS set or the bins of vintage cookbooks. The way the furniture area is set up, it feels like a cozy reading nook, and they probably wouldn't mind if you sat down to flip through a book or two! After we left, I was hovering outside and checking out the donut stand, and the owner came out and coaxed us into coming over and trying an apple fritter. I mean, who can resist a homemade donut with homemade icing? The donut was dense, cakey, with tasty apple chunks and very sweet icing. A decent thrift store, worth stopping if you're thrifting in the area. And the little donut stand outside is good for a coffee and a sweet treat if you need a pick-me-up!
