Located a few…read moreblocks from the center of Oak Harbor, it's worth the slight detour to check out their wealth of treasures, all of which are well-marked, well-presented, and well-priced. They have everything from vintage knick knacks to toys to books to small furniture. And clothes, TONS of clothes, all organized by size, style, season...you name it. They also have a large selection of household items, like dishes, bedding, towels, and small appliances. One thing I really appreciate is that they have dressing rooms so you can try things on! Some larger thrift stores have done completely away with this option, and while I understand why, I appreciate the ones who still have them. The line can get a little long at the counter, so keep that in mind if you're there on a busy day. But if you want a great thrifting experience, and to support a lovely small town business, definitely give Island Thrift a try!

She looked very visibly angry when saying this. I apologized and told her that I genuinely thought this was one of the racks on display in the store and backed off it. I hadn't been here before so I didn't know the layout of the store. She didn't say anything to me after that and hurried off away? I tried to go through the rest of the store but, after that the vibe was just off and I had to leave. Not sure if I will come back. At least not for awhile. Overall the store is very organized and clean. The clothing selection isn't the most stylish but, they can't help want gets donated to them. Would have liked it more if my visit had been better.

But once you make it to a town big enough to have a Goodwill, you know you're in luck! The Marysville Goodwill is pretty big and has the usual departments, all decently sized, including a fairly large housewares selection. It seems pretty tidy and organized overall, although there were a few areas with stuff on the floor. Likewise, it seems pretty clean and doesn't have thrift-store smell inside. This store belongs to the Seattle Goodwill family, so anything you buy here can be returned to a Seattle store per the usual return/exchange policy. Good news if you're buying for another person or have severe road-trip fatigue and can't even deal with the fitting room right then. They also follow the same colored-tag discount schedule as the regular Seattle stores. The best part about this store, however, may be the HUGE restrooms! No skimpy single-seaters here -- there's a long row of stalls, clean and nicely maintained, and you don't have to go and pester an employee for a bathroom key. Road trippers, take note!

I understand that…read moresome collectibles can be valuable, but who is coming to a thrift store expecting to pay prices like that? A lot of the items are priced as if they were brand new, which defeats the purpose of shopping at a thrift store. Since this is a senior thrift store, I feel like items should be priced to actually sell. Moving more inventory would encourage people to come back, and it seems like that would do more to support the seniors than having items sit on the shelves because they're overpriced. On top of that, the worker at the front had an attitude, which made the experience feel unwelcoming and left me not wanting to come back. I really hope the pricing and customer service improve because I'd like to support the cause.
