Reading my original review of Bargains Galore, it's hard to believe I've been a fan of this place for over 8 years now! And now that I live only a few miles away, it's a regular stop when I'm in a thrifting mood. As with most things these days, the prices here have gone up a bit the past few years. But they are still very reasonable, and they have daily 50% off and 99-cent tag sales, plus other specials throughout the week. They also have a loyalty program where you can earn points and discounts based on how much you purchase. This still ranks as one of the cleanest and most well organized thrift shops I've ever been to, even moreso since their recent massive re-arranging project which I really appreciate. My favorite section is their sewing and craft area. If you're a fabric hoarder like I am, there's always something fun to be found there. Their clothing can be hit and miss, but if you visit regularly you're sure to find something new and fun to wear. And don't miss their vintage/antique section which has some really fun finds. read more

We purchased a toaster oven for $13 and the tag said tested, so we took it home and the heating element is not turning on. I contacted the manager and she said they do test it and there is nothing wrong with the toaster and nothing she can do to help me. Very poor customer service. read more

Great employees everything is always clean! Including the store and parking lot this post was I was four years ago. I know I was in there four years ago and their prices have never been absorberant on a few items $250 for an English saddle,( great price) why Not make money?! Grumpy guy!! I hesitate to write this review. I should give it 1 star so you never go there to buy the deals before I get to them! For the sake of honesty though, I gotta say, this is an all out, 5 star, WOW what a glorious, angels singing, thrift store dealorama! As a reseller of small hardgoods it really is a mecca of great deals. I'm not going to name names because things come and go and you'll never find the same thing there twice, but the selection is fantastic. ...Unless you can't deal with crowds, because this is a popular place. Spent $60 in-store and donated books afterward on 9/30/25. While carrying books inside for receiver, another receiver helped themselves to items that were NOT for donation, incurring a loss to me of approx $150. Upon returning home, I noticed the items were missing. After two attempts to resolve immediately by phone, I went personally to store, where I found one of the items taken without my consent. The staff on the phone were not at all helpful and were dismissive. The store staff person finally tried to be a bit helpful after also trying to dismiss me, without success. No other of my items (a rug and winter/breakdown supplies stored in a closed plastic box) were retrievable. Situation is yet to be resolved but I'm not hopeful given their dismissive attitudes. I am so disturbed by this I will never donate to them again. Also, in general they are pretty expensive for a thrift store. Goodwill at least asks before just taking things out of one's vehicle. Bargains Galore needs to learn to ASK before taking, and their employees need customer service training. read more

Went on a family outing and wanted to stop by some thrift stores. So happy to have been able to get to this play before they closed. They had so much in their store and very well worth the price. Found so many throw over sweaters, some tops for work and my daughter found some baggy jeans that she is now in love with. My sister found some great finds for her to wear during this chili weather. I want to make a trip back soon and what other great finds I might bring home!! read more

**UPDATE** This has been our favorite thrift store for a long time but recently things have changed and now Bargains Galore is sadly at the "BOTTOM" of our list of local thrift stores. :( The prices are even HIGHER than Goodwill! If you like antique stores where the prices are higher than on eBay, this is the place for you. They used to have a small antique section and there were always new things being placed out because they were selling all the time. Now, it all has piled up so high and coupons do not include antiques, so they have had to resort to placing antiques all over the store on top of clothing racks. It's truly a mess. I'm not really interested in antiques, so not a huge issue but I used to enjoy finding good deals for friends and family. It's not just the antiques that are overpriced though, EVERYTHING is overpriced, even the JUNK! HA HA! Today, I tried giving them another chance and wandered in. I had an hour to blow so I thought, with that much time I should be able to find SOME reasonably priced treasure or trinket. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of cool things on the shelves but EVERYTHING I saw could be purchased less expensive on eBay (even including the costs of shipping)! I came across ONE thing that looked like a good deal though. A brand new Ravensburger puzzle with a $4.99 price tag seemed like a reasonable thrift-store price! As I was walking on to continue my search, I realized it was a "GOODWILL" price tag. When I turned the puzzle over, I saw that Bargains Galore had priced it at $14.99!! Seriously, how stupid is that?! They didn't even bother to take off the Goodwill price tag that was CHEAPER! I turned around and put it back. Goodwill sold that Ravensburger puzzle new for $4.99 and now it's going to sit on the shelf in Bargains Galore amongst ALL the other cool overpriced things in their "collection". I spent the rest of the hour carefully walking through the store picking things up and setting them down, shaking my head. Bargains Galore used to be like their name but now they should change their name to "OVERPRICED GALORE". Their business model used to be LOW PRICES & FAST TURNOVER. I used to be able to go in EVERY DAY and find great deals because the items never stayed on the shelves for very long and new items were always coming out. Not only that but they no longer allow returns! AT ALL. I purchased something and tried to take it back but was pointed to a "tiny" sign that read "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" and got a "sorry" from the employee. No store credit, nothing but a new policy that was well-hidden. When I mentioned it to them on Facebook, they said "Sometimes exceptions are made." So, does that mean a person has to rant or make a scene in order to get a store credit? BAD POLICY. Bad management. Sad. EVEN THE GOODWILL ACCEPTS RETURNS FOR STORE CREDIT and the GOODWILL is the bottom of the barrel. :( I mentioned these problems to Bargains Galore on their Facebook page and they just used my comment as an opportunity to mention a promotion. When I was looking around, I noticed the customers are not the happy shoppers I used to see but instead the same desperate resellers who frequent the Goodwill. Standing there indiscreetly scanning the barcodes on all the CDs, DVDs, Books, and other items to pull out anything they might make a small profit on reselling on eBay and I watched as those shoppers left with little or nothing to show for their time. The employees don't look as happy anymore either. I've watched the tone of the employees and the customers shift over the course of several years and it's truly sad. A depressing hour-long experience. Save yourself the drive. It's not worth the trip. Unless the idea of visiting an "secondhand zoo" sounds like fun. The money they might be making from selling less items for more will be funding the janitors they are going to have to hire to DUST it all for sitting there for so long. We will be back from time to time to see if you guys decide to do the right thing and get back to the ethics of the quality thrift store you used to be, but as things have gotten worse and worse, our expectations are very low. read more

Next to Goodwill, this is the next biggest thrift store in the Mount Vernon area as of 2022. I am pleased to write this 5 star review. I picked up items here that are in great working condition for up to 75% off their original value. They have huge deals almost daily that can land you clothing for super cheap prices. They have products ranging from cleaning supplies, pets, toys, shoes, kitchen, tools, and more. Inventory is pretty good, but comes in slower than the larger thrift stores like goodwill, but their prices are way better, and their items are more unique. Not all shoppers had their masks on properly. When I asked another shopper to put his mask on properly I was told to let it go. Employees should not allow people improperly wearing masks to shop in the store. read more

A catch all of second hand stuff. Much comes from the local area, hence you can find some really cool older stuff. A bit cluttered but they try to keep things orderly. A fun place to stop to try to find a bargain or two. Plenty of parking and the staff is helpful. read more

They have a very good selection and a huge variety of items. This is a store we will drive across town to go to. I appreciate that they keep the store tidy and clean. Appreciate all their efforts to follow the COVID guidelines. It makes me comfortable to go in their store. read more

A fun store to browse and shop. There are a lot of knick knacks and collectible items at reasonable cost. There's a lot to look at and everything is nicely displayed and organized. They have almost everything including clothing, housewares and furniture. read more

Store was cluttered and hard to find things as previous reviewer said. I like going to other thrift stores that have better lay outs than this one. Thought it was a good idea to let shoppers know which colors were on sale by posting sign on front door, however, the problem was they did not state which item were on sale so I would assume anything will that color tag...but not so. That was very misleading as a first time shopper there. Customer service was ok, not great...heard a few employee complaining about being short staffed and all..no big deal. Too out of the way for me to go back there again as their sales are not as good a they seem where you first walk in. So if someone that works there is reading this...please post what is on sale for the color items as how are new shoppers to know. I'm sticking with my in town thrift stores as the sales items are more clearly stated. I'm sure this is a lovely store for some, but not my style. Thanks for reading my opinion. read more
