The Worst. I had Coogan install a water pressure booster to aid in the performance of the Navien system that they had installed in the home years prior under a different home owner, and I thought that having the same company install a pressure booster would keep things simple as they would be familiar with the home. I had made it clear that I was unfamiliar with the Navien system and wanted to know all I could from them as far as maintenance was concerned, in the 3 years that I've owned my home the Coogan team has been out several times to check the unit, but never gave me any steps to take to keep it running efficiently. Just getting them scheduled to perform the job was arduous, not exaggerating when I say that it took weeks to even get Coogan to commit, weeks. Made it seem like it was this complicated procedure involving the water being shut off at the street and that they were overwhelmed with business (they are never not overwhelmed). Once they came out the job was completed in 4 hours...no need to involve Kent Co. Water in shutting the water off, no drama, no big deal ... so hard to understand all of the hassle in them coming to my home. Once the unit was installed, I noticed that the Booster pump ran ALL THE TIME, kicking on every 10-20 seconds, it seemed like a lot, especially even running when we weren't running water from a faucet, but this was the first time I had ever had the need for one of these in my home. I thought this to be weird and mentioned it to the owner (Rob) who came to the home for a service call later on to tighten fittings at the base of the pressure booster pump as it started leaking and water was getting all over the rug of the finished basement. Apparently his team didn't tighten the fittings with the right tool, causing the leak. He said nothing in regards to the frequency of it running and played it off as normal. About a year later the Navien Heating system stops heating water to the faucets in the home, lucky for me, it continued to heat the home as it was winter, but hot showers, etc. weren't staying warm. I called Coogan on a Tuesday, to have them put me on the list to have it looked at, I was told that since I did have heat to the home, my problem wasn't considered an emergency which I completely understood, but also felt that having a tech come to the home within the next few days wasn't a big ask. Well apparently it was, as by Thursday I was told that Rob was going on vacation (he's not the only plumber there right?) and that the Coogan team was too busy to come and address the problem. They actually suggested I get someone else to handle what I had considered to be their sole account. SO...with that I called another company (SOS Plumbing, they are excellent) and they came out that same day to look at it. The found the internals of the Navien System to be one of the dirtiest that they had ever come across, with several parts needing to be replaced to fix the issue. While working on the Navien they heard the booster continually kicking on and off and upon inspection noticed that the Booster Unit was lacking the necessary Check Valve on the "street side" of the unit, which essentially prevents the pressurized water from just being pushed out of the home and back to the street provided water supply.... !!!!!! It's clearly in the installation manual as a required part of the unit, and without it, the pump has to continually run to maintain the required pressure. This will drastically reduce the life of the Booster unit and also cost me extra money as the unit needs to continually run to do its job. I called Coogan Heating regarding the lack of the Check Valve and felt that it should be corrected by them either for free or at a very reduced rate, as it should have been there all along. After 2 weeks of "we're talking to Rob and will get back to you" and getting that classic Coogan customer service I've grown so accustomed to I finally get a response from Rob the owner. "The space where the Booster was installed is very tight, and we would have to remove sections of the walls to correctly install it. If you want it to work correctly, just have another company make it right." WOW... so not only did we install it incorrectly but we are not willing to put any effort at all into making this right. If you want it corrected, it's your problem and money, and we really just don't care. If fitting that Booster unit into the space provided was going to be a problem, one where the life of the unit would be greatly compromised as well as the overall performance, shouldn't that have been a conversation to have with the owner prior to it's installation? Isn't that something to bring to the homeowners attention??? We can do this, but here are somethings that you need to know before we do?? SOS Plumbing told me they can make it right for $350, no mention of needing to tear down walls, no drama. I will NEVER use Coogan for anything ever again, AVOID THE HASSLE!!!! read more

We've used Coogan twice now and are happy with both experiences! A few years ago during a cold spell our furnace died on us. They installed a new unit and had our home nice and warm the day we called. We just decided to tap an AC into our existing ducts. Again, super fast service and I'm loving how comfortable it is inside! His work crew is the absolute best. They are friendly, professional and so hard working! Inexperienced. Younger man came twice to check 1 heating system in my 2 family house. Couldn't figure out how to fix what ended up being a $50 thermalcouple but felt the need to tell me I should replace the other system and gave me an estimate that I didn't ask for. I saw the ad that features local businesses and liked the owners message. I called and spoke to a man in the office about having central air installed. He said the owner was busy and would call me in a week or so. That was several weeks ago and no one ever called. Poor customer service. That's ok because I called other local companies and they were all very responsive. read more

I called and asked them if they would be able to add refrigerant in my AC unit. I am not a current customer, but certainly would have signed on with them if they would have performed the service. I was told that it would cost $275 just to have a tech visit my location and then there would be additional charges after a diagnostic test on my AC unit. My response, "no thanks." I guess business must be so good that the opportunity to secure a new customer isn't that big of a deal. read more

When I explained that I wasnt interested in replacing our boiler but need help with 2 rooms that are currently without heat he became rude and insistent and ended the call by hanging up on me! They refused to make a service call to my elderly parents home despite having installed a water heating system

After having new furnaces and A/C condensers installed last year, our humidifier did not seem to be working. We contacted Coogan Heating and their installers/repair crew came out to take a look and tried to determine the underlying problem. Although the humidifier still was not doing its job , we contacted the company again, and they did further research, and did solve the problem. It took some time and patience, but the crew reconnected the humidifier so that all was fine. Bob Coogan, owner, called to check progress and was ready to make a visit, when his hard-working staff had everything functioning well. I called multiple HVAC repair places this morning after waking up at 12:30 last night with no heat. I left messages with about 10 places. Robert called me and asked me to send him pictures of my unit. He then called and walked me through trying to troubleshoot it myself. That didn't work and a little while laterlater, he called because he was in my complex and asking which bldg I was in!!He troubleshooted it and showed me everything he was checking so I could learn. It started working with some tweaking but he did warn me it might just be a bandaid and I let me know what he thought it was. One thought was the pressure switch and he sent me a pic of one he found in his warehouse!! Unfortunately, a little while later, it stopped again. I let him know and he told me he would try and get here by 6. What I forgot to mention earlier is today is his wife's birthday. I got it working for now and will let him know what happens. He is taking his wife to dinner. I cannot say enough about the service, follow up, education or how nice Robert was. I have already recommended him to at least 5 people and will continue in the future!! read more

* AVOID AVOID AVOID* I was going to ignore my experience with this contractor, but recently the experience has escalated from bad to horrendous; so I feel obligated to write this review and hopefully save someone else. R.E. Coogan was contracted to do some work renovating my apartment. They installed a shower and a toilet, but the shower had an incorrect part and I had to call for months to get it replaced. Then one of their techs dropped a wrench right in front of me on my newly finished floors, leaving a large indentation. Mr. Coogan witnessed this and did nothing. My furnace was going and I was gathering quotes to replace it with a new high-efficiency combo unit. Mr. Coogan heard about this and took it upon himself to have a team waking me up on a Monday morning to install the new unit before I had even secured funding. If you read other negative reviews, it seems they have a track record of performing unauthorized work and then billing for it. They gave me a space heater to heat my office so I could work while they replaced the furnace, which I was very appreciate of, but then they forgot it and I drove an hour to drop it back off at their office in Warwick at the behest of Mr. Coogan. Less than a year later, I have a puddle forming in my basement under the new combi unit. I call R.E. Coogan to make an appointment to have it checked out. No one shows. I call back to ask where they are and speak to Mr. Coogan directly. He comes out to my property and swears up and down it is not his unit leaking. It can't be. Tells me to buy a dehumidifier and find the source because it will, quote, "save me a lot of money." A few days later, Christmas Eve, I am at a party enjoying my time with friends when I get a call from my tenant (thankfully) that my combi unit was spraying water all over the place. I rush home and turn off the system. Christmas day my father and I spend an hour at my place tightening six of the eight circulator bolts that were not properly torqued. A week later they have someone come out and replace the circulators, and he cleans out the filter, I guess, in my brand-new furnace, which I did not ask for. Today I received a bill for $275 for said cleaning. Oh, and I had to wait over a month for someone to come out and switch the thermostat zones that they incorrectly wired, too. Honestly, just use any other reputable heating company and steer clear of R.E. Heating and Cooling. It's been nothing but a nightmare. read more

1. Incident 1-I had a Quietside combo boiler/hot water heater tankless and I knew it was on its last legs. I had RE Coogan come over and work on it last spring. I wasn't at the house at the time so my tenants let them in. They started to do the work without reaching out to me and only talking to my tenants. I recieved a $780 bill for the work that they did on the unit without even knowing what they were going to be doing. This was the first level of unprofessionalism and when I called to complain they argued with me about paying a 3% additional fee for using a credit card. 2. Fast forward 6 months later and the unit that they "fixed" broke again and it was time to replace it. I called up the owner of the company and he drove across the city go give me a quote on replacing the unit. He said nothing about it being a charge to get a quote from him. I didn't end up going with them for the replacement because they were $3,000 higher than the competition. He ended up billing me $225 for the quote. When I called to complain they argued with me for 20 minutes. **This company is deceptive and overpriced. Make sure if they are coming to your house to do any work that you do not make the same mistake I made. read more

Outstanding experience! From my initial phone call with Ana, working with this company has been seamless. I had my furnace and hot water heater replaced through the RISE/National Grid program and given the scope of the work that needed to be done, I was apprehensive. Bob Coogan not only provided an estimate but took the time to explain everything. On the day of installation Ryan, Mike and Irvin arrived early and during the course of the day additional crew arrived, including Bob. By 5:00 the job was complete and the entire work area had been cleaned, leaving no trace of the extensive job. Ryan explained the features of my new equipment and was awesome! We just bought a new house and needed a plumber to install the new gas range and dishwasher. RE Coogan was recommended by our real estate. Bob called back right away after we placed the call. He fit us in the very next day and everything was installed by the time we got home from work. In the first week of living in the house, we had to call Bob on two occasions when the heat didn't work. He called back within 5 minutes both times (once at 6 am and once at 6pm) and Helped to troubleshoot the issue over the phone. We were able to fix both times without having him come out! Just wanted to post what a wonderful experience we had dealing with R.E. Coogan's heating/plumbing. After dealing with another company for months and months regarding our boiler and getting nowhere we happen to see R.E. Coogan's commercial and called him the next day. We had been dealing with our insurance company for months trying to get reimbursed for money spent on our faulty boiler and hot water heater. The next day his men came to install the hot water heater, they took pictures of the faulty boiler and faulty hot water heater, submitted all necessary paperwork and within a couple of days we were informed the insurance company approved the replacement of both. Bob Coogan himself came to do the installation and could not have been more professional, they are truly a 24/7 company. read more

Rob Coogan and the HVAC team provided fantastic service and support. In early 2018, they installed a 3-ton unit. The unit was in one time with no issues. Our tech, Seth, was knowledgeable and took his time to explain what was going on and what he did to fix the problem. He also tested the system to make sure we had no leaks or cracks from the delayed ignitions we'd been experiencing. It's hard to find good plumbers / hvac companies and R E Coogan is one of them. I really wanted to use this company because of their great reviews. I called in mid-June to set up an appointment to see my place to install a heat pump and ductless a/c. Due to my schedule it didn't work out, but Anna was great and took down lots of details and said they would try to do a quote based on the floor plan I emailed. I was really impressed, but unfortunately, I never heard back from them. A month later, Ryan called and was very professional and apologized for not getting back to me during high season. We talked and he seemed very knowledgeable and said he'd do a quote and send it asap. After getting two other quotes that I wasn't happy with, I had high hopes. Nothing arrived. I called back every day for almost 2 weeks. Anna was always great and tried to help, explaining that they were slammed and that Ryan would call me. Nothing. It's now been 6 weeks. Anna gave me a verbal quote and said she'd send it by email. Still nothing. She called to say that a tech could stop by the house and take a look in person, which was great. I asked if she could have one of the technicians call and talk to me through their recommendations. Nothing. Just got off the phone again and begged for the quote. She said she gave it to me verbally, and I asked her to send it again. Still nothing. Very frustrating experience, so have decided to move on. I get it that hvac companies are busy mid-summer. I live in Barerington. Condensor/Compressor to AC unit stopped working yesterday, Mon 7/10. Called the AC company I have used in the past. They said the earliest they could get there would be between 2-4 on Fri, 7/13. Say what?? Looked on line and saw some great reviews for Coogan. Called them up and was greeted with a very friendly voice on the line who listened completely to the issue I was having. Said she would get back to me on Tues morning around 8:30 with the availability of a repairman to come out and take a look. I get a call around 8:45am from Bob Coogan (owner of the company) who said he would get back to me with a time he could come out today. Around 10am there was a knock on the door and it was Bob Coogan. 45 minutes later the AC is up and running nice and cold. Great experience! Bob is a great guy! The turnaround from initial call to the completion of work was less than 24 hours. Would recommend them 100%. Speaking of calls I need to call my old AC company to cancel my appointment for Friday, 72 hours from now. read more

I was disappointed overall - he agreed to a job and came out and completed half of the job (he only could do 1/2 because another service technician needed to finish a part first). I called him back to complete the final job and he never came back. I paid him a large amount of money (not sure if it was a fair amount since I am new to the area, but much more than I would have been charged in my previous home) in a timely manner (because he sent the bill before completion of the job) and called weekly for 5 weeks (sometimes 2x per week). I was told - "he is busy but I promise he will get to you next week". I then spoke to him 2x and he said he would fit me in the following week...he never did. He seemed very sincere and friendly when I first met him, but I would much rather he told me that he did not have time to finish my job. I suppose I was naive to keep waiting for that long, but truly he made it seem that he would be out to finish the job. read more
