I always look forward to the seasonal rotation of menu items, as I know the ingredients will be fresh and in season, and I love looking forward to new dishes. I absolutely adore Spirit Elephant and have loved making this my go-to spot in Winnetka. I have had Meet Up events, girls brunches and date nights here, and always enjoy the experience. I've honestly been here more times than I can count. My omnivore friends are always pleasantly surprised once they've been officially introduced to the magic of Spirit Elephant. I've loved watching all of the small changes over the years, and have appreciated that the quality of the food and handcrafted cocktails has never changed. I have raved of the patio in the past, but they've since done two major upgrades, and I love spending weekend afternoons with a group of friends during the warmer months on their patio even more. The staff is phenomenal, and I appreciate that I always know my server will have an excellent recommendation whenever I stop in (I mean, you truly cannot go wrong with anything that you order).

The tofu in the bao buns was so crispy and delicious that my carnivore friend said tasted just like pork belly. Having never had pork belly, I was happy that to me it tasted like tofu since I love tofu. The poke nachos were a bit spicy for me but flavorful and delicious. Again, my friend thought it really tasted like tuna. My friend wanted to split the steak which I thought wasn't their strongest dish because it tasted more processed and not like lovely tofu nor like meat. But for those who enjoy vegan steaks, it was quite flavorful and moist. The potatoes were so fluffy and crispy. But not my fav of their dishes. As always the manager, Jordan, comes by and makes us feel like VIPs, laughing and treating us like old friends. And the whole team works together smoothly. Being surrounded by plants with perfect warm lighting makes the ambiance just as wonderful as the food itself.

I really like that you have a lot to choose from, and the included amount was decent. Like, you can pick up to five different toppings like edamame, pineapple, etc, up to three different proteins, toppings like tempura flakes, and different types of rice, including purple rice, which was great. I went with black rice, pineapple, masago, green onions, edamame, salmon, tuna, tofu, and some spicy sriracha. It was delicious. My son loved his poke bowl, but he did say he wished there was more rice. Overall, food was great, service was good, and the overall dining experience is worth a revisit. BATHROOM REVIEW: Located near the back, there is a men's and women's bathroom. In the men's, there is a urinal and a toilet. I always wondered whether to lock the door behind me in these situations. Well, I couldn't anyways, as the lock was broken. So I peed as quick as possible, to avoid being walked-in on. The toilet handle was hard to press but thankfully I got to the gym and it paid off here. Sit or squat? Squat.

I normally don't enjoy takeout sushi as it's one of the foods I find tastes best eaten where it's made. That said, I thought I'd give it a go and put in my order when I arrived to ensure everything was fresh. For food we ordered the gyoza, crispy spicy tuna, spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and shrimp tempura roll. All were good but my g favorites were crispy spicy tuna and spicy tuna roll. The rolls are also very large fyi! Would definitely go back as I'm curious to try their poke.

It melted like butter in my mouth. I've could have had more! Avocado Toast (hamachi, sake, ahi tuna, avocado, jalapeño, seared spicy mayo and crispy shallots)- delicious (my favorite maki roll) Tarabagani (king crab with garlic butter) - the crab is beautifully wrapped around with cucumber. Unagi (eel and avocado) - really good! Zuke salmon sashimi (seared) - good, smoky flavor Spicy tuna - good Vegetable gyoza - good. Son ate a few gyozas thinking it had meat in it so thanks for giving him some veggies. Pork gyoza - good. Son ate all 8 of them. I'll be coming back to try the other makis and eat more sashimi! Since I'm talking about the sashimi, I want to come back right now. They gave me vegetable gyozas the first time when I ordered pork, but they worked with me regarding that mistake and tossed in pork gyozas this time around. My 2nd time, they forgot 1 order of my sake and my hamachi so I can't write about how the hamachi sashimi. Overall, the food was good! According to their friendly staff their plan is to open right down the street on Vernon, but while things settle down from Covid-19 they are operating as a pop up within Guildhall. I ordered online on my way home from a Dr. appointment this Friday evening thinking that I would pick up 20 minutes later. Silly me because they needed about an hour to prepare my sushi. I got home ready to feed my hungry sushi loving children and realized they forgot 6 pieces of salmon sushi (the kids fave). So I ran back and they had it ready, but prepared without rice which would do for my picky children...and so I waited a bit longer. There were a bunch of others also waiting curbside for both sushi and Guildhall's regular menu, which made me happy to see them somewhat busy during this time. The sushi itself was very fresh. We got a few typical rolls (tuna, salmon, etc). An order of vegetable gyoza. And then their avocado toast and a special version of the California roll. The rolls were much smaller in comparison to other favorite sushi spots nearby and also more expensive, but it was tasty and convenient to have down the street. My entire family enjoyed, but complained they were hungry after, which was a bit annoying for spending $100 on takeout. I'll likely stick with other less expensive spots for takeout (AO, Dempster Fish Market to name a few) since my family can devour a lot of sushi in one sitting, but will definitely be back lots when possible for dining in or even patio dining.

It turned out to be such a fun, family-friendly experience! The atmosphere was perfect for kids, and they had an absolute blast. Our chef, Steve, was incredible, he really engaged the kids, made them feel part of the experience, and even encouraged them to try new foods. One of my picky eaters tried things I never imagined he would, all thanks to Steve! The food was amazing. I ordered the lobster and filet, and it was not only delicious but such a generous portion that I had leftovers for the next day. Every meal came with chicken noodle soup (which my kids loved), a fresh salad, and even ended with ice cream, such a great touch. Sam, the manager, also came by multiple times to check on us. He was so attentive, welcoming, and wonderful with the kids, it really made the whole experience feel special. We got so much food for the value, and more importantly, we made such great family memories. I honestly regret not bringing the kids sooner, but we will definitely be back again very soon!

I left my house planning on a takeout…read moresmash burger at a new fast food place 5 minutes from home, when on a quick whim, I hooked a right turn instead of a left, and drove 22 miles to Ron of Japan in Northbrook, a restaurant I last visited in 1993. I was turned on to the place by a good friend who took me there as a treat, thinking I would like it. She was very right. It was my first experience with teppanyaki, and I was hooked. Over the next 32 years I've had many more of these meals at other nice Japanese places closer to home. So now, for this visit, I suddenly went from getting a $10 burger, to dropping $200 at a restaurant (I went all-in, treating myself on this one). The place still looked the same, which in my case, I loved. I enjoyed a Super Mai Tai at the elegant bar before my table was ready (a very short wait). Lupe, a long serving, very experienced chef was my company for the evening, and he was wonderful. The lobster appetizer was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and presented. My filet was a fine piece of meat and it was the exact medium rare I requested. Soup, salad, vegetables, fried rice, shrimp - all fantastic. The waitress was also great, refilling my water, and bringing me a second Super Mai Tai. I topped it all off with a scoop of green tea ice cream. It was an extravagant meal and I was quite full, but it was a Christmas splurge, and it was worth it. Now, I'm planning on not waiting another 32 years to return here. I'll save up some money and come back here with my two grandsons, two daughters, son, and ex-wife. My little guys have been with me a few times at similar places and quite enjoyed it. As far as for me, it was well worth it, and I recommend it all - the people , the food, and the atmosphere, but load up your wallet.
