    Miso Soup and Edamame

We enjoyed our dinner on the patio and the service was excellent. We will need to return soon to try a Japanese entree as we both had the shrimp fried rice (!) with sides of edamame and miso soup. The fried rice entree was very ample and we both left quite full.

I've already reviewed Kuro several times... So let me just say: get the Golden Shrimp. If I could eat a whole plate of Golden Shrimp, I would, but then I would probably be ill because it is so rich. I had a delightful piece of Saba (mackerel) nigiri and then I ordered the Kuro burger (burger at a Japanese restaurant - crazy?). My companions had a Salmon bento and a salmon select dish. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

Amazing!!! Amazing service and great tasting food. I was amazed at how fresh the sushi was. Their menu has a great variety of different entrees. We drove about an hour to come here and it was worth it. I will definitely be coming back.

Really enjoyed dinner at Kuro Bistro. Started with a glass of plum wine and it was the perfect balance of sweet and earthy. The sushi pizza was amazing. The half portion of hibachi teriyaki chicken was just right. The ambiance was warm and cozy great for a weeknight dinner.

Great, clean sushi restaurant with a nice seating area and lighting. The service was great and the sushi portions were plentiful. Highly recommend

What a great spot! This was the first time I have been there and it did not disappoint. We had the golden shrimp appetizer, gyoza and sashimi plate. Everything was delicious!!! Our service was great as well. Very fast and accurate. This place gets busy and I'm happy we booked reservations. It seemed to clear out after 9 pm, however. Parking is easy as they have a parking garage right near the restaurant. In the summer I've heard they have cute outdoor seating. Overall I loved this place and will be returning!

Best place for Asian food in Lake Forest. It's not like there's a whole lot of good choices to be honest. Kuro Bistro is a place specializing in sushi. Actually there's lots of Asian food on the menu, but that's the best stuff they have so get it. The prices are kind of high it seems but that's not surprising because this is a rich ass suburb and money is no thing. After getting off of the Metra train, we came here at lunch. It's the best time to come because of the lunch specials. These are a little cheaper and you can save a few bucks on some rolls and other things. Most rolls here are too expensive. The best one was the AAC Roll. It's $10, which was a lot for a small one. This has asparagus, avocado, and cucumber in case you didn't know that. Got us a couple rolls, with a drink and appetizer, and we saved a few bucks. The rolls were pretty small. It was made basic. These were finished in a few minutes. Good flavor. It's just the prices and portions that are the problem. The rolls aren't that much to eat but you still pay a lot whether it's a big roll, a regular one, or whatever.

It was very expensive and just OK. Plus, if you're sitting outside, you get the lovely train coming by every five minutes.

    Vegetable Tempura

We sat outdoors on the patio and enjoyed our view of the pretty flowers. Service was overall good, but we never received the salad we ordered, The flavor profiles of all of the food was good, and really enjoyed the vegetable tempura. However, we had a lot of pieces of thick, grisly fat in our sushi that was difficult to chew through. For this reason, I don't think we will be returning.

Their sushi is without a doubt the best around. I usually sit at the bar and they are extremely friendly and I enjoy every one of my visits.

We headed there for Happy Hour, which runs from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM and is definitely on the short side! We actually thought we'd be the only "early birders," but the bar area filled up surprisingly fast, so clearly this happy hour is popular with the locals. Sophia offers a fantastic $10 Happy Hour menu featuring cocktails, beer, wine, and five appetizers. Between the two of us, we ordered four of the five appetizers offered, and honestly, every single one was a hit. The Potato Croquettes were incredibly light and fluffy, the Ahi Tuna Crisp was absolutely delicious, and the Nashville Chicken Bites packed great flavor. The Meatball Sliders were another standout -- flavorful and juicy, and actually held together instead of falling apart after the first bite! To make the evening even more special, the bartender heard we were celebrating our anniversary and surprised us by comping a dessert: the Sticky Toffee Bread Pudding. Absolutely delicious and the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Even better, our total bill came in under $100! I highly recommend @Sophia Steak's Happy Hour if you're looking for affordable yet classy dining in Lake Forest. Next time, we'll definitely be back to try dinner.

All three appetizers were delicious and I'll definitely get them again. The calamari was fried to perfection. I hate it when it's chewy and that was not the case with their calamari. For my main dish, I got the sea scallops linguine with spinach and tomato cream sauce. It was sooo good. My favorite pasta from there. They did not skimp on the sea scallops. We ordered 4 desserts: tiramisu, lemon olive oil cake, sticky toffee carrot cake, and chocolate torte. All the desserts were good but my favorite was the tiramisu. It's probably one of my favorite place to get tiramisu. Honestly, you probably cannot go wrong with any of their desserts. The one thing I was kind of disappointed with the Hugo spritz but not a big deal. It was weirdly too light for me SERVICE: service was slow in the beginning. Even if we don't consider its rarity, Da Local Boy is a winner in every category. The prices are very fair for the enormous portion sizes, the decor is fun and appropriate, the service is friendly, and food is phenomenal both in flavors and textures. The only possible criticisms are that the space is a bit small for how popular this spot gets, and the parking in the area can be a bit limited around popular meal times. The food here shines, making it worth a special trip -- both again for the rarity but also the quality. For me, the poke nachos are a must order item, just the perfect mix of large chunks of tuna with super crispy wontons, fresh avocado, and a good helping of sauce. Amongst friends, we've agreed that this is a must order item. The huli huli chicken is also unreal in flavor and texture. Besides being marinated and sauced well, the chicken is melt in your mouth tender while simultaneously having a delicious crisp skin. Think brick chicken, but with more flavor and a much better price. The rice and macaroni salad that accompany this are also well done -- and feel more like a core part of the meal rather than an afterthought. The grilled pork is pretty good as well, though I kind of wish it wasn't sliced as thin, as certain pieces felt a bit dry. The spam musubi with a light touch of furikake also provided a flavorful, fun dish to accompany the other delicious items I tried. Overall, delicious and consistently surprises me with the quality of the execution and bold flavor combinations. This is on my top places to visit in the area and has never disappointed.

We were seated promptly in the formal dining room which was nicely decorated. Our semi-circular booth was spacious and comfortable. There were different sections in the restaurant that were more casual, tailored to the different tastes of the clients. Overall, food was delicious and portions were huge. I had a Boston Clam Chowder and a Gulf Grouper as the main. I would usually order a salad, but I didn't this time as each entrée came with a large plate of homemade roasted vegetables and wild rice. The Boston Clam Chowder had real pieces of clams in it. However, it was just lukewarm. My grouper looked great and tasted flavorful, but it was somewhat over-cooked (and therefore not tender), which was unfortunate. My wife had a bowl of Lobster Bisque and an order of Stuffed Flounder that had crabmeat sandwiched in the fish. She absolutely loved her choices. Our daughter had a Charbroiled Walleye and liked it too. Her only disappointment was the garlic bread being hard and dry. Our daughter and I each had a Chardonnay Stags Leap which was good, while my wife had a Virgin Mojito and truly enjoyed it. Surprisingly, the highlight of the night was the slice of tiramisu that our friendly and professional server Greg brought to me! It had a lit candle for my birthday, and Greg teamed up with two other waitresses enthusiastically sang me a happy birthday song! The tiramisu was excellent, creamy and not too sweet. I am not a dessert person but really appreciated this. I have a suggestion for the restaurant: as the portions were so large and each of us brought home half of it, it would have been nice that they make the portion 40% to 50% smaller, and lower the average price of $40 per entrée accordingly. It might help attract more customers. Just my two cents. All in all, I had a lovely birthday dinner at Boston Fish Market. Ambience was good, and service was outstanding. We will certainly return again.
