Hands down my new favorite bar in San Antonio! I come from NYC and have missed the speakeasy scene since moving here. I am so glad to have found this place here! Drinks are expensive, but to me it is worth the splurge every once in awhile. The speakeasy is tucked away behind a restaurant on some random street. The only identifying feature is a green light over their door. Even better, you need a password to get in (this is texted to you when confirming your reservation). We came in early October and everything was decorated for Halloween. This made is cozy but still classy. I ordered a Halloween-themed spin off of an Old Fashioned and it was truly excellent, especially the presentation. I was invited over to the bar to retrieve my cocktail and I had to open a glass box full of smoke. Superb. Of note, they have an excellent charcuterie board and mocktails if you don't drink alcohol. This was a wonderful little treasure in San Antonio. The reservation is 100% accurate because everyone has a two hour window to stay and enjoy a few drinks. When your time is up, you leave! Then they leave the space so the next party can enter on time. I absolutely love knowing I can plan our time wisely. . Our drinks were made perfectly and the service excellent. Each area is sectioned off so you have privacy for your party. I highly recommend this for a date night, before or after a nice dinner. read more

This place makes you feel special. You contact them via text and you make a reservation. They will give you a password. If you want to go to RD make sure you contact them ASAP. The seating is limited and you will only have a two hour window to enjoy the place. My date and I enjoyed the drinks. They make sure that you are happy and the drinks were strong. I had two and I was good. I didn't need a third drink. The drinks will run you about $15 each depending on what you get. It's a very cool spot to check out if you want to try something different. There isn't a place like RD in San Antonio. You will be pleasantly surprised and you will be back. read more

Made my second trip to RD over the weekend and still think they are a pretty awesome tucked away spot for a low key/romantic evening. I throughly enjoyed privacy in my own little area with my company while taking in the dark/moody ambiance. The drinks were strong and delicious and the service was consistent and friendly. The only take aways I have - and why this review is getting 4 stars instead of 5 is because we were kept waiting in the cold and drizzle for close to 10 minutes while we waited for acknowledgement of our knocks to get in. Another drawback that me and my company agreed on was the music choice. We felt that what was being played was more appropriate for a beach vibe and was a bit too poppy/upbeat for the type of vibe that was in place. Aside from that, we were content and had a great time. Went with a friend on a Friday night to enjoy conversation, have a bite and a cocktail. The door to the entrance was obvious, but we did go the long way around the Red Barn to get there. (Hint: as you are looking at the Red Barn, go around to your left) Our password worked (sent thru e-mail, along with the establishment rules (silence your cell phone, explore but mostly stay in your assigned area, etc.) and we were greeted with a sampling of a cocktail! Our area was pointed out and we were able to explore a bit and take a seat. The couches were comfy, the area was intimate and the music was great, but not too loud for easy conversation. I'd say it's like being at home, but you don't have to make your own food/drink. Our cocktails were delicious and the food was tasty. There are only three menu items (shrimp corn dogs, quail bites and a pretzel) We had the pretzel and shrimp corn dogs on the waitress' recommendation and were not disappointed. We were allowed 2 hours and the staff was extremely professional at handling the exit. Two cocktails each, a few bites and great conversation for about $50 each! BTW, I made our reservation the morning of and got a spot, so don't hesitate to try, you'll be glad you did! BTW, if you are extra hungry, the waitress pointed out that we could make a reservation at the Red Barn for after, but we were completely satisfied by the time we left. Didn't take any pictures out of respect for the other guests and it was dimly lit, so can't help there. Maybe it will add to the mystery! read more

I saw a couple go up to the door and knocked and then was ask what's the password!Frustrated finding this place in the first place due to thinking this is some bar b que or steak place I decided to knock on the red door and was ask what's the password! I said I don't have one and was ask if I have reservations I said no it's just me and my better half and then the door opened to let us in due to another couple was a no show. The place is very cozy, quiet,vintage and pretty cool little place. They sat us on the right side of the bar and immediately ask what would we have and my wonderful date had the Firing Squad and I had the Old Fashion and both drinks really good! After couple of Firing Squads and few Wild Turkey Rare Breed bourbon drinks it was time to hit the road to check out the Moon's Daughter. This place is perfect for a casual night or date night without the loud music or big crowds cause its intimate and special place to enjoy each other company and especially your pricey drinks but it's worth it! You can see the people eat their food at the restaurant through the one way window how funny that can be but the place has a lot of cool things to look at instead just be respectful on intruding on someone spot when moving around the small place being there was a lot of romantics there. We had heard about this hidden gem from a few friends and found the number to text for reservations. We decided to arrive on a Friday at 6pm for cocktails. We provided the password at the door and were granted entry into a cool and cozy little lounge, lit dimly with a fun mix of music from various decades. Our group of four sat together and enjoyed a few rounds of craft cocktails, all of which were delicious. Frankie, the bartender, made incredible drinks and was very welcoming to us in this speakeasy in the heart of Alamo Heights. We also sampled the corn dog shrimp, skewered shrimp coated in corn dog batter, fried, and served with a honey mustard. These were very tasty, especially if you are a corn dog fan, and that I am. We'll be definitely making a return here on another evening to enjoy more of the hospitality and hand-crafted cocktails. read more

Great Hidden Gem for a drink We love going to hidden places and enjoying the company of others. The Staff is Amazing

We went there when they first opened. You need to contact them and reserve a space for a limited time. There are only 27 seats so they reserve time and seats. They will then text you the password to use at the door. Knock on the door and speak the password. When you enter you are greeted by, in our case the owners, an appetizer, which was quite delicious and a signature drink. We were shown our table and ordered some drinks. The entire atmosphere is really unique and awesome. Everything is 1920's themed. Even the restroom is hidden. You can peer into the restaurant next door and they have no idea you can see them through a one way window. This place has so much history and is really great. I talked at length with the owners and all the research they put into this concept to come up with an amazing Speakeasy experience. We also ordered some food that was excellent. I would recommend. Super cute speakeasy. You have to text them to make a reservation. The have a drink menu but you can also order off the menu. All the drinks were delicious. They also have a kitchen, but it closes at 10PM. It's a small and intimate space but they seemed to able to accommodate bigger parties. Definitely check this place out if you can! read more

Pleasantly surprised! This speakeasy is a breath of fresh air to the bar scene, they are definitely doing it right here. We've all been to these speakeasies that are too crowded, service is underwhelming, with overpriced drinks that are too strong to even drink. This bar is not that! With their reservation policy it prevents the overcrowding and allows visitors to actually enjoy the space and the experience. Service was excellent, we sat at the bar so we got a front row seat to all the drinks concoctions being made. The daiquiri, ave b and golden ticket we're excellent, we also ordered a charcuterie board that totally hit the spot. I previously gave this place a much better review, but my wife and I just returned for the first time in nearly 3 years on (11/25/2022). The atmosphere, and quality of the drinks was still excellent, but I struggle to even give it 3 stars after the total absence of service. It started with just getting in... you are supposed to knock loudly and wait for them to ask for the password.... We had to knock three separate times before we were let in and it was cold and wet outside. Then it took a full 20 minutes before we were asked if we would like to order a drink. I could've understood this, if they seemed slammed, but it was not. Even after ordering drinks (which were both on the drink menu, it took more than 20 more minutes before they came out (closer to 30 than 20). We drank our drinks and were ready to order more, and it was so slow that we contemplated just getting up and walking out. Finally, one of the bartenders caught my wife staring in disbelief that we were not being served and came with more water and asked if we wanted to put in a new order. We asked for the check with the second drink. The second drink again took so long that we wondered if they had forgotten the order. In total we were there for just under 2 hours (9:15-11:05), and we were served 2 drinks each.I'm not actively upset about the experience, but I don't think I'll be going back. read more

My husband and I came here on a late night date. LOVED the inside vibe. I could've done without the Lunchable-like "bite" we had at the door, but it was a nice gesture and the complimentary drink was nice. Like others have said, this is a fantastic space for having a drink or two while being able to converse. The drinks were a little on the pricey side for what they were, but I didn't mind given the transportive atmosphere, the service, and the limited seating. So lets start with the good. The aesthetic is very fun and the layout is well thought out. The host/door guy was amazing. He even filled in for our waiter at time ours was MIA. Which brings up the bad. The service was TERRIBLE. So many of my group's drinks got comp-ed because they either forgot completely or took an obscene amount of time to make them. Our intended server was good, when we could find him. Sadly when he was gone, one of the bar tenders was waiting on us; we are pretty sure he was either on a substance or drunk. When one of our party asked for a amaretto sour, he asked if its okay if he makes it with egg whites (valid question), but when she said no (emphatically), he still made it for her with egg whites. Little did he know she only one barely functioning kidney so she is medically required to avoid protein that comes from animals. When she denied taking this egg-filled drink, he proceeds to CHUG the drink in front of our group. I was so excited to try this place out and our first 15 minutes there was amazing. Sadly the rest of the night did not live up to the hype and I will not be coming back. read more

Went there for the first time and can say the atmosphere is amazing. I would love to go back. BUT, I feel like I got ripped off or something wasn't right. I bought 2 drinks, which on the menu are labeled at 13$ and one beer at 9$ on the menu. So 35$ ok. I ordered a measly 4 piece shrimp appetizer, after which came out to 85$! So a 50$ appetizer??? I feel like 1. This is way overpriced for that or 2. The staff are pieces of shits who added something extra to my tab because I was new there. Overall, if I were to go back, would only be for a few drinks. Recommendation is low. read more

Probably one of my favorite bars I've ever been to. The whole ambiance and aesthetic was fun but the service was great. We would deviate from the menu and say what we did and didn't like and the sever would say "I think I have something you'd like" and come back with a drink that we'd love. We gave the secret password and were led into such a great environment for enjoying such wonderfully crafted cocktails. The mixologist made great cocktails but were also very personable and approachable with our questions. They crafted excellent drinks and created a great drink for my wife based on her preferences. I pulled up to the Barn Door and was almost certain I read the mixed4u website wrong. The place was closing, and the last remnants of tired wait staff had drizzled out of the place. I asked my wife, "Are you sure you were told correctly?" First off, don't ever question your wife. Secondly, she reminded me that it's hidden for a reason. So I set about looking for that green light. It was actually really easy to find, which made me really nervous because I then had a brain fart and forgot the password for a second! A quick check ofmy text and a knock on the door later, I was excited when I had to speak the password through a peephole in the door. When we walked in, the tiny setup was absolutely amazing. I can't speak in words how cool it was - you just need to witness it. A speakeasy for sure, and their drinks were stellar. The staff was exceptionally friendly and very accommodating.
