I feel like it's an oxymoron to have amazing experience and root canal in the same sentence. However, that's exactly what I had. They explained why I needed the root canal, pointing to my X-rays and said it all in a way I could understand. They were very efficient and from start to finish, my root canal was completed in an hour. The office associate who scheduled me, greeted me, and took my payment was very friendly and was thorough when explaining the possible charges. I appreciate the upfront estimate of worst case scenario so there would be no surprises, only pleasant ones if the total came out cheaper. They gave me printed post-op instructions and an Rx for 800mg ibuprofen should I need it. I absolutely recommend RCT-Navy Yard should you need any endodontic dental work. read more

I met with Dr. Chayne Coston twice for a consultation and for a root canal. He has wonderful chair-side manners and a very pleasant and friendly personality. Dr. Coston patiently took the time to explain the issue with the decayed tooth, the root canal procedure and he answered my questions all to my satisfaction. And, true to the many testimonies, the root canal procedure was really painless! I also felt 100% fine after the anesthetic wore off! The Navy Yard facility is very well maintained and is a really lovely and comfortable space. I only communicated with the front desk person and one other female regarding the billing process, briefly with Dr. Coston's assistant, but the entire staff were real pleasant and very professional based on my personal observations during both visits to RCT Endodontics. Now, here's the BONUS! I am deaf, and without even having to make the request, I was asked if I would like to have an ASL (American Sign Language) Intepreter during the consultation. WOW! That was truly IMPRESSIVE, and it simply blew me away!! In all the years that I have gone to any dental offices ((50+ years), none of them have offered me some kind of way to facilitate a smooth and effective communication path (50 years ago, they simply YELLED at me, and though it was SHOCKING, I can laugh about it now *chuckling*). I had been putting off (and literally having nightmares about) a root canal based on how uncomfortable I am at cleanings and getting more regular dental work done. My anxiety could not have been higher. That said, I knew I had to do my best to pull it together and connect with Dr. Chayne Coston DDS. He could not have made the experience any easier. From the moment I sat down he exuded calm, knowledge, and confidence. It was exactly what I needed to trust him, relax, and let him do his work. I genuinely enjoyed talking with him and he was super clear about what he was going to do, why and how, and answered any additional Qs. His demeanor and warmth was what got my through my first root canal PAINLESSLY. I left thinking that I really liked him and we'll see how the results go once the feeling returned in my mouth/jaw. Despite him explaining that my case was a bit worse than anticipated I had no pain during treatment and no pain even after numbing faded! I'm over 24 hrs out from the procedure and I haven't needed a single bit of pain or inflammation medication including OTC. I went about life as normal yesterday including getting a workout in after the root canal. I've had more soreness after a cleaning frankly. The only downside I can think of is, like me, you'll probably wish he could do all your dental things for you :) I bet my general dental apprehension would fade if all experiences were anywhere near as good as this one. This is the first review I've ever written--this office is amazing at what they do. Dr. Coston answered all of my questions with clarity. After he did the injections, I didn't feel anything. The feeling during my root canal was comparable to that of a cleaning as far as pressure/vibration, surprisingly painless. He was good at explaining step by step what he was doing next. Also, the procedure was very fast, I was shocked at how quickly Dr. Coston finished. A talented medical professional! The customer service is professional. The desk receptionist is very nice and welcoming. She was detailed about billing and gave me a breakdown of my costs. RCT Endodontics Navy Yard/Dr. Chayne Coston was a phenomenal find! In May my dentist instructed me to see an endodontist to get confirmation of a condition or lack thereof. The one he recommended didn't take insurance and would have charged an initial consultation fee of $500. I postponed my visit thinking that there had to be normal endodontists who accepted insurance and also did high-quality work. I searched the carrier's website and found RCT. The reviews of the practice and Dr Chayne Coston were uniformly excellent so I decided to try RCT. I went there today and couldn't have been more pleased. The offices were impeccably kept, with lots of natural light and open spaces. The equipment was new and modern. I felt reassured being in the space. Dr. Coston himself was a consummate professional. Don't be fooled by his youthful countenance -- his years of experience were evident in the way he handled himself and his behavior toward me as a patient. He explained everything in detail. He took the time to say what he was going to do and why, what to expect, and the possible outcomes. He answered my questions thoroughly and followed through precisely. In the end, he interpreted the scans in an understandable way while pointing out the pertinent details. He then diagnosed that I needed no further treatment, which was music to my ears. I'd never been to an endodontist before so have nothing with which to compare my visit. Without hesitation, however, I would go back to see Dr. Coston if the need arose. He also had a sense of humor and a warm personality. On a lighter note, I discovered that we had both gone to NYU, separated by about 25 years -- he to their dental school and I to their undergrad and law school -- so we compared notes about our respective student days. I'm definitely going to recommend him to my general dentist as a commendable provider of endodontic services and one who also takes insurance. read more

From the moment I walked into RCT Endodontics in Navy Yard, I knew it was going to be a great experience. The person at the front desk was very friendly, attentive, and professional when I made the appointment for my root canal, and explained everything about my insurance and the cost of the procedure. The assistant who took me in to be seated was really friendly and professional, I mean, nobody ever likes getting a root canal, but I was comforted by her demeanor and how gentle she was with getting the x-rays done. Dr. Coston was so patient and really spent the time to explain what he was going to do and- I know this sounds weird- but actually get me jazzed about getting the procedure done. They allowed the numbing agent plenty of time to do it's job and halfway through when it started hurting, he stopped and would jab me with more numbing agent. I don't think I've ever had a better experience with a root canal than the one I had at Dr. Coston's office. They music was playing and he was singing along, it was actually kind of fun!Dr. Coston said I might have a long recovery time because he really had to dig around in there, but It's only the next day and my tooth already feels SO MUCH BETTER. This was my first experience with a root canal, and I've heard the horror stories, so I was a bit nervous going in. But Dr. Coston immediately put me at ease. After the visit, I went to RCT's website and read about him - his bio says he "prioritizes empathy, compassion, and attention to detail" - and I couldn't think of a better description. He is obviously extremely skilled and experienced, but it's the way he interacts with the patient that sets him apart. The procedure went quickly and smoothly, and to my relief, was nothing like the horror stories. The whole team at Navy Yard clearly cares about the patient. Can't believe I would say this about getting a root canal but amazing experience. Greeted warmly and professionally by folks at the front desk, a short wait in a very pleasant room, and then started the appointment. Dr Colton and his team were amazing- this was my first root canal and I was nervous having had a few very painful dental experiences before. He explained everything thoroughly and made sure I didn't feel a thing. I knew I was in good hands and the procedure went very smoothly. An hour and a half after getting there I walked out with a perfect root canal and 12 hours later still no pain and much relief from an inflamed nerve. This also happened when I was temporarily on the East coast and the office made sure to send my records to my regular dentist in LA.
