Update: After speaking with Dr. Jacques, who gave me a call. He is always kind and knowledgeable…read more He let me know that he referred me based on my insurance and to contact them. He did this in the manner it should have been done from the beginning. Unfortunately, he agreed I shouldn't come back because his front desk staff attitude is bad and afraid if I come back in person there may be some physical altercation, which is scary because why would it get physical if you hire professional staff? That was a super weird comment. .................................................................................................................................. DO NOT patronize this establishment. The receptionist Lazandria or a name very similar is very rude. She is always the lady that answers the phone with the DC accent. She has been rude since my first appointment. Additionally, when contacting them about a follow-up, the receptionist hung up in my face claiming the dental office on the other line was calling about me, when I told her there is no way this could be true, she hung up anyway. She knew she was wrong because she called back and said, "I'm sorry they weren't calling about you, it was another patient and I apologize for being so rude". The fact you have to call back and acknowledge you can't keep you attitude in check lets me know this dentist does not care about who he hires and how they treat his customers. She was also very nasty when corresponding with them about my referral to a specialist. She told me it was not their fault that they may not be in network when they refer out to specialists. This is after when I called and asked how they refer to specialists, and she said they refer to specialists based on my insurance. She realized there was a problem and tried to walk back on what she initially said. You ARE NOT SAFE with them. Anyone that can hire staff that will be so reckless with your care is not a good establishment. This woman hung up in my face and proceeded to yell at me on the phone when she started changing her story after saying they referred me based on my insurance. They take no responsibility. Anyone that cares about their money and wants a confident health care team that WORKS TOGETHER, this is not the place for you. If this comment is removed, I will repost. Today is 8-9-2022.

From my brief appointment with her yesterday, I could tell that she's the kind of medical practitioner that makes you want to become a long time patient. A solid 5 star dental professional. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk personnel left much to be desired. LaShandra gave me the feeling that she didn't want to be bothered with me. The tone in which she spoke to me on the phone before I ever made it into the office was curt, but then when I finally came in the office, I felt that her tone was even more demeaning. The whole time she spoke with me, she'd never make any eye contact. I'm hard of hearing and wear hearing aids and trying to hear when people have a mask on is very difficult and she seemed to not want to repeat anything and that she simply didn't have time. (Mind you, there's no one else in the waiting area, nor is the phone ringing during this time which I would've understood if she couldn't answer my questions at the moment due to other office obligations). Finally I asked her to give me a second to turn on my mic (I have a mic that connects directly to my hearing aids via Bluetooth to help me hear better. The last question (about insurance) I started to try and ask her before going into the room with the doctor, I was stopped abruptly by her saying that it was time to see the doctor so I guess that was her way of not answering the question. Growing up, my family didn't have a healthy dental routine of seeing dentists. As an adult, I'm dealing with the consequences of that and trying to create healthier dental habits moving forward. I was beyond excited to come to Capitol Family Dental since it's in my neighborhood and had so many phenomenal reviews. I had even convinced my husband to give them a shot potentially leaving his normal dentist and hygienist that he's been going to for 10+ years since Capitol Family Dentistry is in the neighborhood. But unfortunately, my experience speaking with LaShandra multiple times over the phone before I came in for my first appointment coupled with my in-person experience turned me off a bit. Moreover, when I'd ask questions, she'd make assumptions that she knew the reason behind my question and answered based on what she thought I needed to know instead of just answering my question which made the communication even more tense (not to mention, leaving me without the information I was trying to get). I mean, I'm in the dentist's office ON MY BIRTHDAY with a broken tooth. Definitely not how I want to start off the morning of my birthday but to be made to feel like you're not worth the time is just not a good experience. Not sure how to proceed but I may still be looking for a new dentist. I hate to give such a highly regarded dental practice 2 stars, but when the experience with front desk is such that it leaves you feeling like you don't want to come back and you're weighing to yourself whether or not to continue to subject yourself to this type of treatment, I think it warrants it. I couldn't do only 1 star because Dr. P was a gem. But what good are great doctors when the staff makes you feel like trash before you even get to meet them?

What a master Dr. Kaufman is.   Ably assisted by his very bright and cheerful associates, who explained everything to me as we went along, Dr. Kaufman removed the old cracked (but recalcitrant) tooth effectively and efficiently.   Then, he built up the area and later, after a rest of several months, implanted a metal post successfully.   Now, he has completed the job and readied the mouth for a new crown to be placed over that post. The pain has been minimum, but the results maximum. In addition, his office is on the side of the patients, operates with great ability, and actually argues for the rights of the patient with the insurance company. This is the state of  the art for periodontal work.   Any person with teeth should definitely go to Dr. Kaufman when it is time to schedule tooth repair or tooth replacement with an implant.  It is worth traveling many miles to obtain the services of Dr. Kaufman and his skilled associates.

My issue was I had a decayed tooth implant where the bone in my jaw had atrophied significantly over time - the implant had been in my jaw for over 35 years and had come out due to lack of bone structure - the implant wouldn't hold. After my dentist told me to contact and meet with Dr. Friedman, I had a nice initial consultation and decided to let her replace some of my jaw bone and gum needed for reconstruction. Although I think her efforts were "decent" the gum and bone did not sufficiently/cosmetically cover the loss and visually it wasn't sufficient to replace the dental implant/bridge with her efforts. I went back in for a check up and she said it had mostly healed, but I think she realized that she wasn't capable of fixing the issue - at this point she had me setup an Appointment about 1 month later to see how the healing was going. During that time, my Appointment was cancelled - without any contact to me. When I emailed and called the day before the appointment, I was told not to bother coming back in - they informed me that they could not handle the bridge or implant on their side, and all I could do was contact another provider. I was not informed of my situation and I was not allowed to create an Appointment to get more information/details - I was Sh*t out of luck!

So she clearly knows her craft. But what has most stood out to me is what a kind person and excellent doctor Dr. Friedman is in terms of caring about each patient as a person. She has always welcomed my questions and spent whatever time may be needed to answer them. When I asked last year about delaying my graft till this year because otherwise my insurance would not cover it at all, she was 100% understanding and reassured me that it would be fine to wait. Remarkably, when she picked up the phone when I called her office to ask whether I should call my dentist to ask for my latest x-rays, she said no need for me to do that -- she did want the x-rays, but had my dentist's email address, so she emailed my dentist herself. How many doctors would do that??? And Dr. Friedman pays great attention. Before my most recent gum graft, I asked about using my fluoride rinse and mouthwash -- "Listerine equivalent," as I put it (it is a generic brand). After the graft, at the end of the appointment, when giving me the mouthrinse I should use for the next week, she said after a week, I can return to my fluoride rinse and "Listerine equivalent." That's paying attention to what the patient says for you. In short, you could not be in better hands than when under the care of Dr. Friedman.

I was seen by a doctor who was different from the one who had done my initial consultation and treatment plan since he had since left the practice. This doctor did a re-evaluation, adding more teeth to the plan and changing from donor tissue to grafted tissue. He administered the anesthesia -- painful and unpleasant -- and THEN had the front desk staff come in with the cost of the new treatment plan that was now over $1500! I was supposed to approve or decline this while already on pain killers with half my mouth numbed. I felt incredibly uncomfortable and taken advantage of by this situation. These business practices are sneaky and underhanded. I felt like I was at a rental car company for the first time being sold unnecessary insurance to jack up the cost. I have had grafts done in the past by a different periodontist (and my father was my general dentist growing up) before moving to the DC area, and was very pleased with Dr. Abron's professionalism, the full price disclosure/discussion of options before the procedure, and the comfort level during the procedure, as well as the measures the office has taken to be as "COVID-proof" as possible. Something in particular I want to note is that when I experienced a minor complication a week after the procedure, Dr. Abron responded immediately to my call to the office's answering service and came out to the office on a weekend to help contain the situation. Considering I am a relatively new patient, I cannot thank him enough for his help, and would recommend anyone that is looking for a very comfortable and metro-accessible setting with the personal touch of your family dentist.
