On a scale of 1 to 5, I rate my experience as around 15. Dr. Mahajan did my root canal, and it went very smoothly with no pain. Dr. Mahajan explained everything in full before the procedure. Everyone in the office is very friendly and pleasant. I had a root canal once before, and this experience is like a different world. Precision Endodontics is a phenomenal practice from end to end. I've had them evaluate three teeth over the last four years. Two required root canals, and the other they x-rayed and sent for evaluation and determined a root canal was not necessary, rather than just drilling, which I appreciated. For the two teeth that required root canals, Dr. Mahajan was exactly what you look for in a provider: patient, gentle, and thorough. Both procedures went smoothly, without any pain. The office staff is just as great. When you're in pain, they go the extra mile to get you in that same day or the next, which is a huge relief. They're great about reviewing the treatment plan and patient responsibility, and I've never been surprised by additional charges or procedures. I've mostly worked with Erin, but anytime I've spoken to someone else, they've been just as kind. Before moving to DC, I had the same providers for most of my life, who knew me on sight. Even though I'd only been in the office four times (half of the time wearing a face mask!) and spoken to her on the phone for scheduling, Erin has always recognized me and made it a point to remember my name and ask how I am. So I got charged for a CBCT that I took to another Endodontist for a procedure and he said the test was insufficient for evaluating the core problem. Since I'm a provider I was shown the images and indeed you couldn't see what the scan was meant for. The doctor I saw kind of just threw the $350 CBCT in my face like it was not expensive or something I needed time to think about. I dunno maybe he thought I was rich. I got evaluated here but I won't go back to be honest. The front staff is sooooo sweet. Wish the male Endodontist was the same. read more

Most reviews of dentists or endodontists focus on a procedure that was either done well or done poorly. I wanted to write a short note to thank Precision for something they *didn't* do today. I had a root canal done by a dentist about a year ago that had been giving me some pain. I went in today to get it re-treated at Precision. After a careful analysis, including tests of hot, cold, and pressure sensitivity, the doctor convinced me *not* to have him do a re-treatment, as the symptoms were too mild and the likelihood of improvement too limited. They only really get paid when they drill, so it was *extremely* encouraging to hear. I won't go anywhere else for root canal work in the future. read more

Look, no one WANTS to get a root canal. But if you NEED one? Precision Endodontics will take care of you. This is where my dentist goes herself, and she referred me here. I was so impressed with the staff, from the front desk through to the doctor (Dr. Murtaza). The phone call the day before to confirm my appointment, I expected. The phone call the day after to make sure I was doing okay I did not, and it's things like that that tell you that this is a practice that cares about their patients' well-being. Scheduling was easy (even when I needed to reschedule), and everyone in the office was friendly and kind. I was evaluated first, then they walked me through the cost, and then proceeded to perform one of the most painless dental procedures I've ever had. Everyone talks about how terrible root canals are but I've had cleanings that were more unpleasant. I spent a lot of time during the procedure thinking about the lessons other medical professionals could learn in terms of managing pain/discomfort and putting patients at ease (and also just general politeness - when was the last time a doctor said "please" and "thank you" to you while performing a procedure?). I also overheard a conversation between another doctor and patient where the doctor discouraged the patient from having unnecessary procedures. Long story short, I hope I never have to go to Precision Endodontics again but if I do, I know I'll be in great hands. read more

I am absolutely terrified of the dentist and dental work so I was petrified to need a root canal. Dr. Rodriguez was incredible. I'm from out of town and was in DC on a business trip. Unfortunately, I had excruciating tooth pain and felt like my head was about to explode and needed to find a dentist for a root canal. The team at Precision we're absolutely wonderful and accommodating. They told me to come in and wait and they'd squeeze me in when they could. I didn't have to wait long at all. Dr. Rodriguez was amazing and thorough, explaining all she was doing along the way. I told her I'd never been so excited to have needles stuck in my face so the pain would stop. It wound up that I not only had a dead root, but an infection as well. She set me up with antibiotics and I'm on my way to healing while still finishing out my business trip. I've had two root canals by Dr. Murtaza and I can safely say it was a great experience. EXCELLENT!! I was having a little bit of an emergency - I needed an emergency root canal and went to the place where my dentist had set up an appointment, but there was some confusion with the insurance and I was going to have to pay everything up front. I couldn't do that. So there I was in Dupont, almost in tears, knowing I needed a root canal without an appointment on Halloween, calling every endodontist I could find on google asking if they could see me. I got a lot of "no, you will need a consultation" first...with my tooth painfully rotting away. Precision Endondontics to the rescue. The girl who answered the phone replied "Of course we can! Come in at 2:45." They didn't take my insurance but submitted the bill for me and only made me pay up front what they knew my insurance wouldn't pay. When I got there, the girls at the front desk were so nice and helpful. I saw Dr. Sushant Mahajan who was fantastic. He spent 15 minutes talking to me beforehand explaining the procedure and answering any questions I had. He went into great detail and had a very calming presence. He assured me he would make me as numb as necessary and stuck to his word! Before getting near me with any tools, he checked my numbness level using cold liquid and we had a signal for if I felt anything at all - if I did, I got another novicaine shot. It was pain-free, stress-free and weirdly, a downright enjoyable root canal! Would go back here in a second and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to my family and friends. read more

Root canals are no fun. Since moving out of DC, I've considered flying back for Precision Endodontics to fix some of the mess other dentists have made. (Anyone with recommendations for the Bay Area?) I group dentists and endodontists into the same group as hair stylists and mechanics - it's frustrating when you can't find a good one and you try to hold off as long as you can to avoid another disappointment. What I value most at Precision Endodontics is that the staff and Dr. Murtaza made a high-stress procedure no big deal. He carefully explain every step he took and even had his staff review the cost (insurance and what I was responsible for) and made sure I was ok moving forward. The procedure itself was surprisingly comfortable and after an early morning procedure, I went to work. If you need a root canal, definitely go to an endodontist because this is what they do, all the time; and definitely get Dr. Murtaza and his team to help. read more

I was at Precision Endodontics yesterday, my first time. Greeted by one of the receptionist, feel so welcome. I didn't get her name, long hair and about 5'2" very knowledgeable with all the information. This is my first root canal, I was so nervous and worrying (who likes to get root canal??) but she made me feel at ease and through with the billing/cost. Next thing I know i was in the chair talking to my Doctor Murtaza, he explained the problem thoroughly and offer the options. I am going back to get the procedure in 2 weeks and I don't feel too nervous at all (still little). The place is spotless, very high tech and so comfortable, I love the HD screen with landscape shots/vdo. They are across the street from where I work and right off from McPherson Sq. metro station. I was referred for a possible root canal by my general dentist. Got an appointment right away and had a fantastic experience. Staff was not just pleasant, but super in every regard. They were respectful to not just patients but to the doctors and each other. Dr. Murtaza did my exam and procedure and he is a master at his craft. Examined the tooth in question, explained every step then went through options for treatment from A to Z. After deciding to proceed with the root canal (my first one!) he went right to work methodically explaining and doing what had to be done. He managed to numb the tooth first time - a feat never before accomplished by any of my other dentists. Didn't feel a thing for the entire procedure. Most impressive was that I had no pain all day and needed only one motrin and that was just to deal with the injection site not the tooth. WOW. This place gets 6 stars. read more

So I woke up over the weekend of me starting my new job, Monday morning with the left side of my face looking like I was smuggling nuts like a squirrel or chipmunk. I thought a spider or some kind of insect had bitten me overnight & now my body was reacting to said bite. It was hurting a little, continuing to swell & itch a little bit. Freaked out, I went to George Washington Hospital's emergency room (since it's near the job) where they said it looked like an abscess. What the hell is an abscess, how did I get it & lets get rid of it I said. At first, the 3 young nurses nicely explained to me what they were going to do. Well, they gave me a topical numbing first. Then, after taking an ultra sound of the area, one nurse shot my mouth up with this long ass needle of penicillan. I SCREAMED so loud that the 3 young nurses in my room had to hold me down. As soon as it was over, I immediately said, "we ain't cool no more!" They suggested I go to my dentist for an assessment & released me. Went to my dentist the next day where he took an xray confirming it was an abscess & that I would have to go to an endodontist to address the issue. So I went through my insurance provider & found Precision Endodontists. I had Dr. Murtaza. He thoroughly explained what was going on with my tooth & what my options were. He was excellent! In fact, today was my last day (I had to go to them 3 times for drainage, a temporary medicated seal & a final seal). In fact the whole team was great! And they will work with you financially too. Today I met with Dr. RODRIGUEZ-RAD for a consultation regarding a root canal that was giving me some concern. I was greeted so politely by Erin, the receptionist, and she very quickly and efficiently got me checked in, she already had my insurance information and handed me a tablet to quickly review the office policies. Once she learned I had dental fear she took great attention to explain each step of the process and assure my comfort. When Dr. RODRIGUEZ-RAD came in she was similarly very welcoming, unassuming and explained what she saw on the x-rays, what she thought was the problem, the suggested treatment plan, the time it would take and the likelihood that it would fully resolve the concern to preserve my tooth or whether ultimately an implant might be needed (even though she doesn't do implants). I truly appreciated her candor and willingness to give me all the information so I could make an informed decision re: next steps. When I informed her I was opting for the implant to avoid the excess cost and payment in the event the 2nd root canal option didn't resolve the problem, she remained so engaged and friendly. She ensured I had a copy of my 3D scan for the next doctor, generally explained the implant process, wrote me a scrip for an antibiotic, in case I need it before the implant, and was generally so very kind and supportive! I would definitely go to her if I need a root canal in the future and highly recommend her for others who need a root canal or just a clear consult. read more

I was super impressed with the entire team. As with the others here I had a root canal done (as again with many it was a complicated root canal and was complicated even more by other medical issues). Everything I had heard before was how terrible root canals were. This turned into a piece of cake. Dr Mahajan was wonderful. He explained everything, was extremely professional, constantly ensured that any pain issue was resolved. Both the tech (unfortunately I didn't get her name) and Erin at the front desk were very professional and helpful. They participate in many dental plans. I can be very critical when service does not fit my expectations but I was super impressed. This is one of the few services that I can recommend with absolutely no reservations. I have to laugh (sort of) at the person who would rather get a tooth pulled rather than get a root canal because the tooth was not used for chewing. Never get a tooth pulled unless there is no way to save it and of course they are going to bill you for a consultation. read more

The operation was a complicated one, but completed in good time, and I surprisingly suffered *little* pain, and *no* swelling afterwards. I recently had an infection and difficult revision root canal for which Dr Carolina Rodriguez-Rad saw me for. They were able to work me in on the SAME DAY I called to schedule an appointment. The front office was inviting and quickly took me back to see the doctor on my visit. My wait time was minimal and Dr Carolina Rodriguez-Rad was fantastic! She explained my condition and went over my CT scan in great detail. I had a challenging case and she was very diligent and meticulous with her work. Again, I can't praise the doctor enough... She has a great bed side manner and makes every effort to put you at ease. Her communication and follow through was excellent as she both called and sent a procedural report to my referring dentist! Dr. Rodriguez-Rad, Dr. Murtaza, and all the staff were so helpful and very friendly. I was referred here by a periodontist and all the staff there go to Precision if they need anything done -- they all said it was "the best". The team at Precision made everything seamless and all were extremely knowledgeable about the different x-rays and explained things well. Although the diagnosis was not ideal, both doctors took lots of time to confer with me and explain options and it was clear that they were giving advice based on what they would do. I was not comfortable with getting a root canal so I went to ask about it. Dr Murtaza explained the procedure (which I already knew from research on the internet), but the moment I asked him if I was entitled to a second opinion, he said sure, and went out without saying anything further. He charged $155 for that. My second opinion dentist says I don't need a root canal; rather an extraction which would be more logical given that I dont use the tooth (to chew) anyway. The receptionist was very kind, but I will not be back to either this endodontist or the dentist that referred me to them. read more

I've had bad experience with root canal in the past, so I was not only extremely nervous but also did my thorough research on available root canal services in the DMV area. After thorough research, I've decided to go with dr Mahajan. dr Mahajan was just excellent. He clearly and kindly explained the process for me and made sure I understand what was going on. He was polite and kind, but not unnecessarily chatty. The operation went very well. The dentist assistant was also wonderful. It was a root canal - there was pain, but not more than necessary. After the operation, he walked me through what happened and how I should take care of it in the coming days. He was very attentive to my questions. He also walked me through how much they will charge me, and how much they will charge my insurance. I would strongly recommend dr mahajan for anyone. read more

One thing I hate is the dentist, and I was sent to this office because of a unique root canal situation. upon getting to the office everything was clean and everyone just seemed happy. Go into the Dr. Chair, even though I was nervous and he had other patients he was so patient with me and my fear and did a thorough job! I ended up having a tooth with 6 roots that were extra long and curved along with extra dense bones with made numbing the area a problem. but the Dr. worked with me rescheduled when needed, checked in with me ( gave me more anesthetic ). it was great! I was extremely nervous to have two root canals performed last Friday, but Dr. Murtaza was wonderful. He explained the procedure in detail and told me that he would not do anything that I did not want. Dr. Murtaza also explained that one of the root canals would be more complicated because the roots connect and curve. He made sure I was very numb and asked me several times if I was okay. After the first root canal was finished, he asked if I wanted to continue with the second one. Dr. Murtaza offered this because I had been holding my jaw open for about an hour, which is painful, especially when you have TMJ like me. I powered through and the second one was much easier. He worked diligently and explained in detail what happened and how I should care for my mouth in the coming days. I did experience some pain afterwards, but it was soreness in my jaw and at the injection sites for the novacaine (spelling?). I would be remiss if I did not mention how wonderful the staff at Precision Endodontics is. They greeted me by name when I walked through the door, which is really impressive when I had only been there once before and it was a week ago. Erin, the assistant, is very personable and friendly and Marta was very professional. It was nice to see how well Dr. Murtaza worked with the assistants, the doctors at this practice seem to appreciate and value their staff and it benefits the patients. I came in to the office as a new patient for a consultation regarding a possible retreat of a previous root canal I had done several years ago. The office is in a very convenient location within walking dentist from the Farragut North or West metro stations. When I walked into the office, the first thing I noticed was how clean and modern the office was. I was greeted by a very personable front desk, I filled out my medical and dental history on a lap top, and I was seated in the dental chair 10 minutes from walking into the office! The assistant brought me back and took an xray, and I saw Dr. Rodriguez-Rad who was very thorough in explaining her diagnosis. Although I didn't receive the best of news that my root was fractured and that I needed the tooth extracted, I just wanted to thank Dr. Rodriguez-Rad for her honest assessment and her staff for the superb customer service I experienced throughout the appointment. read more

So amazing! Everything about having a root canal is unpleasant but these doctors, nurses, and office staff were amazing. They got me in same day. Dr. Rodriguez-Rad was competent, caring, and communicated what she was doing as she went. I did not get good news from my (attempted) root canal -- my tooth was too fractured to save -- so halfway through the root canal I was told I would have to get the tooth extracted. The doctor and office staff were so quick to respond (email and phone) to my follow up questions, helpful in assisting me with finding a referral that also took my health insurance, and overall just very compassionate. When I was desperate to get in anywhere before a long holiday weekend several of the staff helped we go through a list of potential oral surgeons from a list of in-network for my insurance and even called doctors off the list trying to get me in. Every step along the way they went above and beyond what they needed to do. Hopefully you never need an endodontists, but if you do I strongly recommend this practice. read more

It's been over a year since I've seen Dr Murtaza; however considering how great my dentist check up went today I figured it was time for a good review. I've always had great teeth...until I fell on my face. My dentist and Dr Murtaza monitored my front teeth for a good few months until we were all certain I needed a few root canals. I had 3 of my front teeth done and paid the extra for the bleaching compound (worth it - my teeth look great!). I had never had a root canal previously, but have to say this was less painful than a regular dental appointment. Overall it was a fairly relaxing experience! Dr Murtaza walked me through everything and told me exactly what was going on and gave me all my options. I'm reviewing now because I just came home from my regular dentist appointment and he literally did not believe I had 3 root canals. They made me take another x-ray to make sure! Once they showed up on the x-ray he mentioned how flawless the composite at the back of my teeth looked and he would have never known if they didn't take that extra x-ray. Everyone else at the office is extremely pleasant (and sympathetic!). They offer refrigerated bottled water and the rooms have TV's usually playing some soothing image roll of exotic places with nice music in the background.
