My experience with a transmission oil cooler line repair on my Cadillac ATS was not just a case of overcharging, but a total failure of safety and professional ethics. They billed me $980, in an attempt to justify 4+ hours of unnecessary labor by claiming they had to remove the steering rack to get to the transmission oil cooler lines. This is not the procedure documented in the service manual. Additionally, they charged list price for the part, claiming they received no discount from the dealership on part purchases. After a test drive, they pulled the car back in and I witnessed the technicians attempting a "manual alignment"--one holding the steering wheel straight while the other hammered on components underneath. When I asked the manager, Mark, if I should get a professional alignment since the rack was pulled, he wouldn't even look me in the eye and simply said, "Yeah, probably, I would if I were you." Upon inspecting the car myself immediately after leaving, I found: 1. STEERING RACK BOLT: The main mounting bolt was only halfway threaded into the chassis. The steering rack was literally unbolted from the car. 2. DISCONNECTED SWAY BAR: The front driver-side sway bar link was completely disconnected and dangling behind the wheel. 3. ZIP-TIED LINES: The new $529 lines were secured with a plastic zip tie instead of the factory-provided mounting bracket and bolt. 4. DANGLING PARTS: The engine mount vacuum hose and wiring harness were left unclipped and hanging. This shop billed me for "rack removal" but failed to actually bolt the rack back to the car. Returning a vehicle with loose steering and suspension is gross negligence. I am filing a formal complaint with the Michigan Bureau of Automotive Regulation (SOS-197). I have attached photos of the loose bolts and hanging suspension for public record. Avoid this shop if you value your safety.

Billy, AJ and Zain were all very courteous. Billy walked me through the repair process and diagnosis. They gave me a timeline. Updated me with text message photos of the work. I am utterly amazed. It was a $500 fix that the dealership could not even diagnose properly. And a funny story, I had a little sticky note on my dashboard to remind me to fill up my purse with a few candies and mints for my husband. When Car Fix gave me my car back, they had filled my cupholder with candies and mints with a little note that said "you ask and you shall receive." After my check engine light came on, I initially took it to the dealership on Rochester Road since I've worked with them before. After being told the repairs were going to be $1300, I came here to get them done since I find that to be upsurd. (please note, stealership is good for oil changes, and the dudes that work there, as everyone knows, are heartless and obviously gouge you. I'm no dummy.) I spent a lot of time speaking to Karly and she was awesome to work with. I mean, the whole staff here is awesome, but she was my main point of contact. She ran some diagnostics on the car (way quicker than the dealership, obviously) and confirmed what needed to be fixed to get the car back out on the road, and what could wait. It lowered my price down to $887, beating the dealership by about $450. (that's not a typo.) Besides the pricing, the staff here is WAY better, and I get a lot more bang for my buck. Free rentals, way nicer staff, and an all around easier experience. I am coming back here for more service in the future, as I was beyond pleased with my experience. I wish more shops ran like this, and it makes the process way less painful. I cannot thank South Street enough for everything.
