I went to Wetmore's last year in August since my battery in my car was gone and my tire was flat. I dropped my car off and everything was great the next morning. Yay! Then... I just didn't drive my car for a long long long time due to covid and low and behold the battery was now completely dead and useless and my tire was once again flat. Time went by and by and by and I just didn't do anything about it. I thought if I brought it back they would send me packing because I waited so long. Yesterday I pick up the phone and called, they said to bring it in. I did get rightfully scolded for not bringing it to their attention sooner and not driving my car at all. I was anticipating the worst. Today I got a call from one of the managers telling me the issue was that I did not drive it and the core was messed up and I had a ding on the rim which is why my tire was flat. My battery died during the 4" snowstorm last week. I called them up and asked if I could get in and out with a new battery in a reasonable amount of time if I could get a jump and drive the 2 mile hop down Woodward. Don assured me that they could accommodate and the cost for a new Delco would be $210. There was very little traffic, as the local media had convinced everybody that to venture out in the current weather conditions would be tempting fate. Got right in the building and was told to park in the waiting room. After 15 minutes I was told that my car was ready and I was to proceed to the cashiers window. Don told me that my charge was only $180 since there was so little labor involved. It's no wonder why the place has been around for over 70 years. read more

I have a foreign car which requires special parts and service. I have 115,000 miles outside of my warranty and recently needed a battery and serp belt. My dealership was quoting ridiculous prices for the repair so I opted to call around to several local repair shop until I came across Wetmore who were nor only competitive with pricing but they were one of the only service shops that was not apprehensive about working on a foreign car which speaks to their vast experience. So of course, I chose them. I was fortunate to work with Dave who was the consummate professional, was honest, pleasant, efficient and did an amazing job!! I was very satisfied. They even cleaned the interior of my car and filled my tires with air! My dealership doesn't even do that! I strongly recommend Wetmore for all your car needs! read more

This has been a Ferndale landmark on Woodward for as long as I can remember. But, for some reason I had never been there. However, on a Friday afternoon I needed a tire dismounted, remounted on another wheel and balanced. Wetmore's was about $0.51 more than Discount Tire (iirc) but I didn't feel like driving to 14 Mile through rush hour traffic and figured the trip would cost me at least $0.51 in gas anyway. So, I decided to keep my business local. Most shops have the reception/lobby in the waiting room so that they can keep the customers far away from the action. At Wetmore's, however, the work area is the main centerpiece of the building, is completely open, and has the service desk in the middle so all the customers have to interact with the workers in their area. Although, there is a small waiting room off to the side. The people were friendly, service was relatively quick, and they seem to have done a good job. read more

This is my go-to car repair place. I've had to bring my Ford Taurus here a few times and they're always really fantastic with me. The service guys are nice - I never feel talked down to as a woman. They've patched tires for me for free. They've been very honest with me and helped me come up with plans to deal with expensive repairs. And my dad knows cars and he's been really pleased with the quality of the repairs I've had over the years. If that wasn't enough, they have one of the coolest signs I've ever seen - a car bursting out of their rooftop. What's not to like? read more

I was changing my wheels and tires on my Wrangler and went here on a recommendation. Their work was pretty darn quick and everything looked great. I was then having a sensor issue with one of the wheels and Rachel and Chris really took their time and tried everything and eventually figured out the issue. They were both very nice and took their time to explain everything they did and why since I am not very knowledgeable about car stuff. I will be coming here for ALL my future automotive issues/repairs. A real A+ operation at this all in one auto shop. read more

I have to say I am just OVER THE MOON with the service I received today!!!!!!!! When I spoke of a 'pulsating' feeling when I braked, I thought it had to do with the R/ball joint that was replaced some time back. As it turned out, Chris said he would 'make it right' since my warranty had expired on the replacement part. I took it in this morning and Ken was kind enough to bring me home while the car was repaired. It turns out, it wasn't the R/ball joint at all, it was the Rotors both R/L that needed replaced. Wetmore's not only 'made it right' they went ABOVE AND BEYOND! The Rotor's were replaced at no charge to me! Chris wouldn't hear of me paying anything and I cannot thank Chris and his crew enough for the burden that was lifted from me and making my buggy ride worthy again!!! This Company is like no other as far as integrity, kindness, fairness, and trustworthiness. It is truly a Blessing to be able to do business with such a Company. They rank where a lot of Companies could stand to take note. In closing, if anyone has a repair done by Wetmore's and it is lacking in any capacity, please give them a chance to correct the problem. Ok, so this place is massively hyped. Yes, there are "cool" aspects like the totally old-school shop. No Jelly Donuts here! (RIP Saturn) The problem is that I had a rather expensive repair done here, and it was not done right. "Wobbly Wheels made Worse" in this case. A lower ball joint installed by Wetmore's was not tightened down properly, and the resulting lose nut would have resulted in a fatal crash. Imagine the surprise that might have occurred when losing a wheel in highway traffic. Imagine your surprise if you would have been behind me! Wow. What a reason to believe in people again. Now I've been known to change a few brake pads and a serpentine belts every now and then. But when it came to a front end alignment and my girl saying HELL NO to me using her garage to exert a little motor head aspirations off I went in search of help. I was referred to Wetmores by another repair shop. Of course the Italian in me thinks one hand is greasing another but I was in a bit of a bind so I had a go at it. It was like stepping back into 1954. I pulled the car in and a little bell rang and the ACTUAL F-ing owner came out, greased hands and all and "had himself a little look" at my car. 90 minutes later it was $72 for a front end alignment and tire rotation and courtesy of the owner, Chris, an explanation of what he did that didn't make me feel like a Sally. The cost was lower than all the other places in the area I had called. What's more important is that he didn't try to tell me my car needed something it didn't. Like a goddamn $85 cabin filter. No Thank you Sears of Troy you can keep the Vaseline for someone else. Except for the ball buster of an office clerk in the front, Wetmores was better than the cool side of a pillow. read more

Had my brakes done here few years ago. After that one experience, never been back. Cost exceeded estimate. Claimed to have done work that was not authorized and replace parts that were not replaced. Asked to see old parts and was shown parts off different make car. Challenged that, and was told just sample parts; original parts were already recycled. (Mind you, only 15 minutes prior the car was picked up). Then I drove car home: when I got a few blocks, brakes were smoking. Pads were set too tight. Drove the car back. Was told they are too busy to correct issue and I should come back next week. After a heated conversation, manager stepped in and again said too busy to correct problem. After asking to speak to owner, they agreed to loosen pads. Upon inspection, turns out rotors and pads got glazed from the heat. They refused to correct. Said driving it would self correct the problem. Left there, paid someone else to correct the issue, and never went back. read more

EDIT: I posted an original review awhile ago (which I left below), which prompted the owner, Chris, to offer me a $100 gift card toward my next repair. I didn't need it for awhile, but after my car fought through another winter and came out of it with the air bag light on, brake light on, and windshield wipers not working, I decided to give Wetmore's another try. First, they were able to actually take care of all the problems in one day, which was great. I didn't say anything about the $100 credit until it was time to pay, and they were super nice about it. Chris even came out to say hi and now everything on my car is working wonderfully. I can't say I've come across many car repair places that will go to this level of customer service. __________________________________________________________________ I've had two repairs done here in the last couple of months with mixed results. The first time I had my tie rod ends replaced, and for much cheaper than I was quoted at a Firestone, so I left happy and everything seemed to be going well. Soon after, a switch beneath my dashboard broke, causing my brake lights to always stay on even when my car was off. I put some electrical tape on to hold the switch together, but decided it was worth getting it legitimately fixed, so I took it back to Wetmore's. Several hours and $50 later, they tell me it's fixed, so I go home and take a look at it myself. All they did was throw some twist ties on it, essentially doing the same temporary fix I had already done, but charging me fifty bucks for it. Now I realize it costs money to have someone even just take a look at your car, but what bothers me is that they didn't tell me this is what they had done. When I called, they said they could track down the part if I wanted and charge me more money, but why didn't they present that option initially? It felt like they were trying to pass one by me, assuming I wouldn't actually look at it. Had they said we took a look and we can either just charge labor cost to throw twist ties on it or x number of dollars to actually fix it, I wouldn't feel like I just got screwed. All in all, a lot more terrible things can happen when getting your car repaired and I'm not completely opposed to coming here again, but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more

I would have given them 4-5 stars a couple years ago, but consistently bad experiences has led me to give them 1 stars. Their prices are very low and they get your car back to you quickly. So initially you think this place rocks, but think again. They have ruined my car on multiple occasions and kept me coming back for more and more services. First they overfilled my trans fluid causing the transmission to slip. What this means is that I was in the middle of traffic and suddenly the car just starts coasting to a stop, the engine, despite running, isn't moving the car. Imagine being in highway traffic with a semi truck on your tail...and you can't speed up!! Terrifying!! I took the car back to them, they never even used the word "transmission slipping" instead they took the car for a joy ride and said they found nothing but said that I needed my engine position sensor replaced for $800!!! So I allowed it. Now they replaced the old American-made $300 sensor with a cheap $50 Chinese-made sensor. I am guessing they were stealing parts off my car as there was ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to replace it. Well the Chinese-made sensor broke and caused my engine to rattle like crazy. I take my car back again to them and they say that I need to replace my OIL PUMP for $500!!! Needless to say, I had enough of their THIEVERY and took the car elsewhere where they found the broken engine sensor. They will lull you into complacency because they don't over-charge you at first. They just screw up your car ever time you come in and fix NOTHING. Another instance I brought my car in because the starter was bad, I didn't know this. They replaced the battery and some other electrical issues. When I tried to drive home the car wouldn't start. The mechanic came over and pretended to clean the battery terminals to get it to start. Any mechanic with a brain would know it was because of the starter. Again, I found this out LATER at a legitimate mechanic's shop. Either scoundrels or idiots. They don't get you with over-pricing, they get you with VOLUME. They keep you coming back. If you go here and your car is always having problems, heed my warnings and find a better place to go. read more

Chris (the owner) has always been very helpful when helping track down a problem or to recommend a tire. The shop is an old Packard dealership, which makes it that much COOLER. Had a blown tire today after all the snow melted and the potholes revealed themselves...called a bunch of places and was not able to get in. I decided to drop by Wetmore's and was greeted by a nice gentleman with gray hair. He forewarned me that it would be few hours wait I'm definitely not the only one with that problem, but he would be able to get me in. It took a while to get done, but he did! He also gave me a discount I didn't know about online! He mentioned that i prob ran into some pot holes w my spare as well putting a couple of dents in the rim--he bent it back for me and pumped it up as a courtesy. I want to just say thanks to Chris and Benny for letting me in last minute, after an exhausting experience of me having to change my newly shredded tire at the gas station simply to make it to the shop before it closed. I was frustrated and quite honestly did not think they would be able to do anything about it till morning. Instead of just tightening up the bolts on the donut so I could live to fight another day and deal with the rest tomorrow, Chris told me to pull in and that they would have a tire on it in 10 minutes. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful even though they could have groaned about another job coming in right as everybody was about to leave for the day, but I never got a moment of that sense of feeling from anybody. They had the same exact model tire I had before and was a good price. I've been sitting here for an hour and a half for an oil change and tire rotation with nobody in front of me.

Had brake problems so took my car to the neighborhood shop here. $87 and two trips back to them still had the problem. Took car to dealership, and found out they machined the rotors wrong and overtorqued the securing bolts, actually making the problem worse. $196 to fix their mistake at the dealer. Plus their customer service absolutely sucks, they make you wait forever then treat you like dirt. Their desk receptionist is outright rude. I will never take any car here ever again! read more

Came here to get my tire pressure checked. The guy with the mohawk (cutie ) helped me. He was able to quickly get me in when I arrived (around 4pm so right when the after work traffic starts). He quickly saw the issue that I was having and helped me out. He was really nice and professional. The lady at the cashiers office was very courteous and helped me find the quickest ATM. RUN! This place is the perfect example that old school is not always better. I had a terrible experience here... once I got my vehicle back, it was absolutely not fixed. I called the manager, who said they fixed it... I said - did you drive it? "Ma'am, we fixed it." "Did you DRIVE it?" "Well, no I didn't..." "Old-school" might be fine for funky fashion or a theme restaurant, but it plays both ways: Wetmore's doesn't make service appointments. They expect you to drop it off and wait. How long? Depends how busy they are, I guess. I'm not too surprised that I never received a response to an e-mail and couldn't make an appointment on their website, but to not make appointments at all? That is SO 1954 of them. If only I could have my little woman take it in while I ride the streetcar to work for the week, Wetmore's might be useful to me. read more

Wow, called at 8 am and guy was friendly telling me to come in and they'd work on my brakes. I get there, 15 minutes later, and the guy was rude and told me he wouldn't be able to help me today. As I was sitting in my car, I watched another person go in after me and they loaded her car in the garage. If you are tattooed you will be treated like garbage and turned away.
