It honestly makes me a little sad to work this review but it's necessary... I've taken my vehicles to this Muffler man for many years. Probably about 15 years. The work was always done very well and in a timely manner. I was always given honest repair quotes at a very reasonable price. I respectedSam and trusted him. I even referred several friends and they were very happy with the service. This sadly changed recently. I don't know if it's a result of the pandemic or what. Two years ago I took my 20 year old vehicle in for service because of an issue accelerating and grinding in the front end. I was told I needed wheel bearings and something else. Spent about $700 on this repair. The car was good for a year. Then something else happened and I took it back and was told I needed to put another $800 into it. I said nope and got a new vehicle. While preparing the car for sell I had it looked over by someone else. I told them I'd had the wheel bearings done a year prior. They told me I was shafted because the wheel bearings in the car were original. New ones on a 20 year old car would be very obvious. I didn't look at them myself so I shrugged it off and said I've ALWAYS trusted Sam, I just didn't want to believe it. My new vehicle had an issue in the front end. I took it to Sam about 8 months ago. He told me I needed brakes and wheel bearings AGAIN!! At a price tag of $800. What are the odds. He tried to pressure me into getting them that day but I opted to get a second opinion. I took the vehicle to another mechanic and was told the wheel bearings were perfectly fine and I just needed brakes. That was 8 months ago and my vehicle is perfectly fine. Again, after such a long relationship it really and truly saddens me to have to write this. Sadly I won't be returning to this repair shop. read more

They were able to take me in right away and were done in 15 minutes to install a flex exhaust pipe. As for pricing, I had another quote and this place was $5 cheaper and provided roughly an 8% military discount, same as the other quote. So I think the pricing was fair compared to my one other quote. I would have liked to see a larger military discount. Sure, would have also liked to have seen labor cost cheaper for 15 minutes work. But I didn't shop it around more than I did. I could have called a few more places but getting it done right then was assume. I didn't expect that. So saving my time was worth a few bucks for sure. They were pleasant and professional. They were working on a lot of cars in 3 bays so if they were a bad shop I don't believe they'd be around or busy. read more

I honestly wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt since its so close to home but its clear to me they just want to scam you of your money. I brought my old car here to get checked after the car had problems accelerating. They told me it was the throttle body so i got that done & it cost me $700. It seemed to fix the problem but only temporarily. About a week later my check engine light comes back on so I call & see if they will look at it again to make sure it has nothing to do with the work they just did. Suddenly, they're telling me that it's my engine & I'd be better off looking for a new car. They told me when I found a new car they would check it out & make sure it was good before buying. I double checked with a different mechanic since I felt like I couldn't trust them but it turned out that I did need a new car. I was still upset that this happened out of nowhere, especially after spending 700 for a car that is useless now. A couple months later, I brought a new car here to get checked out & I was told by Sam's son that it was a good car & only needed new tires, a battery & an oil change. Well, its a decent car but he failed to tell me some pretty big repairs that I needed fixed which could've helped me negotiate the price. Luckily, the tires from my old car are the same kind for my new car but as they knew, my car cannot drive. I called up to see if they could switch the tires between the two vehicles if I got the car towed there. The son said yes for $250 total. I thought that was reasonable given the fact that I could use something from my old car. Well, then he switched it to $200 which I was ecstatic about. When I finally got my old car towed there, he calls me over & tells me that it doesn't start & he can't do it, even though he was well aware of that fact because why else would I get it towed? Not to mention, they're the ones that told me my car was garbage. I was frustrated & told them I would tow it back & basically thanks for nothing. Then, a couple minutes later he asks me how much im willing to pay to get my tires switched. I tell him the last amount we agreed on which was $200. He said I can do it but for $400 so that he can give the workers a tip. I was baffled at how he had the audacity to double the price after he told me there was no way to do it. At this point, im running late to work because he told me it would only take 30 minutes tops. I try to get him to come down to at least $300 but he isn't trying to budge. Eventually we agreed on $350 because I was desperate & didn't have any more time to spare. But guess what? They didn't even take the time to balance the tires. I'll tell you, that was my last straw. It is clear this place only wants to take advantage of you & scam you of your money. I will NEVER come back here & i suggest you don't bring your car here either. It will just be a ripple effect of repairs & money down the drain. read more

Been here several times. Sam (I think short for Sameer) can usually get me in and out fairly quick but they quote high prices and I have ended up driving slightly farther and saving $50-$100 per repair. Also, I wouldn't trust them to do any repairs that require attention to detail. They once replaced control arms on my cars and on one side the bolts were put on backwards from how it came off. They also didn't properly torque them and I had to do it when I got home. read more

I LOVE this place.  I had to replace my muffler and the dealership wanted over $1500 to do it. GAHHHHH!!! I was recommended to the Muffler Man by someone who was at the dealership waiting for their car to be fixed.  I am glad I took that nice man's advice!!!  Alex (who always wears a shirt with the name Sam) is the BEST! He was very nice, and walked me through options that would fix my issue.  It worked perfectly and for a fraction of the cost. He even loaned me his car so I could get to work while he fixed my car. I recommended him to a friend of mine who had trouble with his windshield wiper motor.  He was quoted over $700 to fix it, but my buddy Alex/Sam fixed it for under $400.   His prices are reasonable and his work impeccable!  Give Alex/Sam a call! I went to Muffler Man to have a large rear muffler removed from my G37x coupe. I asked them if they could put straight pipes in its place, and use flanges so that I could remove the pipes and put my muffler back on if it ended up being too loud. They did good work, and had a decent selection of exhaust tips to choose from. I got a nice set for $90, and they were my style, but I would recommend buying and bringing your own if you're particular. I would recommend them to my friends and family if they needed work done on an exhaust. They bring you to the back and show you what's going on, and work with you to make sure you are happy with how it comes out. I left a happy customer! read more

I needed my tire repaired earlier today. Initially, I went to Tire Center not far from Muffler Man. I waited at least five minutes while one employee made a personal call and the other played with her cell phone before being told that the tire repairman was on his lunch break. I drove a few blocks up the road and found Muffler Man. Sam was at the front desk. I told him I needed my tire repaired. Without hesitation, he followed me to the parking lot where I removed the flat tire from my trunk. He visually inspected the tire and found the nail stuck in it. The tire was plugged and I was on the road in less than 15 minutes. The other mechanic even offered to secure the donut tire in the well of the trunk. Quick, Courteous, Professional, Affordable- all words that I rarely use to describe any business Auto related around Detroit. The heat shield on my car fell down onto the exhaust pipe. The racket was horrible and it made my car sound like it was falling apart. I was directed to Midas by my regular auto shop but when I called them they seemed inconvenced to take my call and acted like I was an idiot. Whatever, poor customer service= 1 less customer. I called The Muffler Man and they told me they had an open rack and would be happy to take a look. Drove right down there and they put it up on the rack and quoted me a very reasonable price to fix. Worst experience ever trying to fix a heater. They charged me $45 just to look at the heater and told me it will cost $1000 for a new heater chord. Other option he gave was he can flush multiple times and get it working better and it will cost $200. I did the 2nd option since it was cheaper and didnt want to spend a lot of money on an old car. After everything was done and I took the car home assuming the heater was fixed, he called me again!!! Twice and also left a voicemail. So I called him back and asked what happened ? He said he wanted to do a flush again since the mechanic told him the heater was still not working properly. I thought there was something fishy but I said what the heck if he is going to flush the heater chord again and make it better why not do it? So when I went to my car, I saw there was a battery left which wasnt mine and thats when I found out what his true intentions of calling me back were. I still went and wanted to wait and see when he will ask me about the battery. He took the car in the shop and did some work just to show he was doing something. Meanwhile he and his other mechanic were searching my car for his battery. I called him up on it and asked him why didnt he do a good job up front calling me back to his shop again and he said he was doing me a favour by flushing it again for free but he still didn't admit it. Then I went back and later the mechanic came outside to the waiting area and I asked him if he had left something in the car and he immediately said "YES" He had left a battery in my car. So I told him why didnt he tell me up front that he had called me back into the shop for the battery itself, I would've returned it back to him. Instead he started yelling at me, shouting in front of other customers that "he can do anything he wants" and started screaming at me to get off his property. He said he is not giving me my car back since it is his car now and he wont return it if he doesnt find his battery and was yelling all this time. I told him I was going to call the police if he doesnt give me my car back and he said "go ahead do whatever you want". So I called the police and he immediately searched in my car scrambling among my belongings for his battery and when he found it he drove the car out off his shop. Such horrible customer service was given. Why would you ever lie, harass and mentally abuse a customer just for a battery you had forgotten in somebody's car?
