My experience with Marcus and tire outlet was excellent. Marcus has a very pleasant demeanor and is professional in his interactions. I had unexpected trouble with my car and brought it to tire outlet without calling. They got me in right away without a scheduled appointment. They took time to test multiple features and ensure they were diagnosing the correct problem. They were upfront and did not try to sell me services that may not be needed after testing showed functional parts. These guys are awesome! I've gone there for years. My boyfriend recently got a flat tire and when his car was ready they called him to let him know. He said he would start walking up there. They insisted that someone would come pick him up! They always go above and beyond! In the past I've stopped in not only for an oil change but also for stupid things like filling up my tires with air or changing a tail light and they charge next to nothing and always get me in and out in a timely manor. Ok. I had an issue with my brakes. I went to 2 different mechanics before i came to Tire Outlet. Here is the story. First mechanic replaced a wheel bearing. The same day car started squeaking. When I came back mechanic sent me away with a completely rusted out broken brake pressure hose, telling me that i could drive the car on the highway with no problems. The other mechanic I went to changed those, then rotors and pads, then the other wheel bearing. Nothing helped. Finally I drove by tire outlet and decided to give them a try. They looked at my car and gave me a price. The changed all the brakes hardware, but the squeak didn't go away. So the took the car back and worked on it until my brakes finally stopped squeaking. They didn't charge me a penny extra even though they ended up working on my car way more that they originally estimated. Thank you Tire Outlet! This review is based on the past year and not the many years that I thought this place was boss... Up until 2016, I would have given this place 5 stars... but when Sammy and Jason left, the place fell apart. The sad part is, that I spent thousands of dollars here over the years. Probably about 8 years I had been fixing my old vintage 1986 VW Cabrio here... it was indeed a money pit of a car, and at least twice a year I was spending between $600-$1000 on repairs. Jason and Calvin (and sometimes Kevin? the father) worked the counter, and Sam worked on my car. Sam was the best mechanic I ever had. Its a family business, and the crew never spoke down to me and always treated me with respect. I never felt taken advantage of. Honestly, I felt blessed to have found a local shop that was a family business (I love supporting family businesses) that I could trust. I live fairly close, but too far to walk on cold days and someone from the shop always dropped me home, which was great service. Then a couple of years ago I bought a used Subaru Forester... it needed a timing belt and plugs (and whatever else goes with plugs). "Where is Sammy? I want Sammy working on my car." Calvin said "He doesn't work here anymore. He moved." "Dude, i need Sammy on my car. I only trust Sammy." Well that wasn't goign to happen cuz I had no idea where Sammy worked. *Frown, Tear*. So anyway, that's a major job, I forget the exact cost so don't quote me here but it was close to $2,000. After the new guy worked on it, the engine light kept coming on still, and I kept returning to them and they would re-set it, and send me on my way... this happened several times until they suggested I "ignore the engine light cuz nothing was wrong"! OK, what do I know? After a few months, the car died on the freeway. The engine block had cracked. Bone-dry said the mechanic where I had it towed (not Tire Outlet). Was that my fault?? Could the oil burn out in a few months? The oil light indicator did not come on, but the check engine light did. Was that my fault?? I kept second-guessing myself cuz i didn't check the oil after they fixed my plugs and timing chain... ultimately, I blamed myself as I could not prove that it was their mechanic that did something wrong with resetting the timing chain. So I moved on... My current car is a 2011 Mini Cooper, and has run-flats.... and I got a flat. But being frugal, I took it to the local fix-a-tire place and he plugged it for me, but also noticed that it was wearing funny, a potential sign of bad shocks or struts he said. So immediately I drove over to Tire Outlet where Calvin said I indeed I had to replace my struts/shocks and it was going to cost me around $1200 and another $250 for a new tire but I should buy them in pairs so that is $500, but he could get me a deal and put me four used ones for $400. I was surprised at the cost and upset that I was going to out all that money... I asked if I could just change the one bad tire and in some months have the shocks/struts worked on. Calvin advised that the new replaced tire would continue to wear and cause further damage to the vehicle. In an effort to assure me, he said, "you can get a second opinion if you want" and I said, yes I guess I'll do that cuz I just don't have that money right now. FLIP!! He turned immediately ugly and started saying how much time he had already put into the vehicle and I would have to pay a diagnose fee... I said, "is that new? I have never paid a diagnose fee before, and no one told me there was a diagnose fee this time... I'll pay it, but why are you getting so angry with me? I have paid thousands of dollars to this shop over the years. Why are you talking to me this way?" He immediately backed down, said I didn't have to pay the diagnose fee, but he was still visibly pissed. I couldn't believe he talked to me like that. I left. I went to Belle Tire on Woodward near 13 or 14. They said my stuts/shocks were fine. They did not need replacing. My husband was still concerned cuz the wear on the rear tire was noticeably wrong... I took my car to Ray Deschamps Service in Harrow, Ontario (he's a friend of my brother who lives in Amherstburg). Ray first drove my car, then he put my car on the hoist and inspected it. Ray confirmed that my entire shock absorb system was PERFECTLY FINE and that although the tire was wearing oddly, it was safe to continue to drive on until probably next winter, as he said there is still plenty of tread left. So that was two different shops giving quotes that my car was fine when Calvin was saying I needed it repaired right away. ??? You decide. read more

BEWARE... Tire Outlet tried to rip me off! After purchasing snow tires, I was told that I needed to get my rear brake pads replaced. I was told that they were down to 5% and I needed to immediately take care of this (for about $350). I was skeptical and wanted a second opinion. Thankfully, 2 days later I drove by Northern Auto Repairs and saw their sign that said "Free brake inspections this week" and went right in. I found out that I was lied to, that my brakes and pads were totally fine. The people at Northern Auto showed me my brake pads, and used a visual aide to help me to understand what "down to 5%" would look like. My brakes were not even close! The people at Tire Outlet tried to take advantage of me, a young woman with little knowledge about cars. I will not be going back. read more

I left my car here for an oil change and when I came back they had changed a filter without asking me first and charged me $20. They claimed that it was so dirty the car was unsafe to drive. My husband was pissed when he found out that this happened, mainly because they told me they replaced the cabin air filter, when the filter they actually replaced was a K&N air intake filter that never needs to be replaced. This is by far the best tire store I have been to. Very honest and caring people working at this establishment, who really have their act together and are very organized. Calvin at the front desk is a rock star and bent over backwards to get me a new tire at an extremely reasonable price when it was 5 below zero out and another impending Michigan snowstorm coming. I had no appointment, walked in and I was out the door in about 25 minutes and this was with 5 or 6 customers in the waiting room. The technicians are nice and friendly and bring your vehicle to the front of the business for you. Five star service all the way. read more

IF I could give this place ZERO stars, I would do that. My front passenger tire has been losing air for a while, so I decided to take it in to get looked at. This place is really close to my home, so I figured I would keep it local, and give them my business. I took it in around 11:00 in the morning, and explained to the gentleman at the counter what was happening. He said that he would have it looked at within 20-30 minutes, and would call me when they started working on it. I gave him my name and number, and proceeded to go for a walk with my 5 year old son, in order to kill some time. It was a hot day (85 degrees), so we walked down to a coffee shop to enjoy some air conditioning. I still hadn't heard from the place an hour later, so I figured they probably got busy, and it was taking longer than expected. No big deal. I decided we would go to Christine's for lunch (awesome place by the way. I highly recommend it if you're ever in Ferndale). This brings us to almost 2 hours after I took my car into this place. I decided we would walk back after lunch and see what the holdup was. Upon arriving at the shop, I noticed that my vehicle was still in the same parking space it was when we got there. Curious, I walked over to it, and low and behold, the same leaky tire was on it still. I walked in, let the guy know who I was, and asked if anyone had looked at my car. My response was a blank stare, and so I continued on by saying that the gentleman working at 11:00 said I would get a call within 30 minutes. The employee working the counter at that time said that there must have been a "miscommunication," because that guy never told anyone that my car was there to be looked at, and FIXED. I didn't get an apology, but he assured me that it would be taken in immediately and the repairs would be started. As my 5 year old whined and complained about the heat, we sat down in the lobby for about 20 minutes. In the meantime, the guy who was working the counter when I brought it in, breezed by us and said nothing. No apology or acknowledgement of his error. He then proceeded to yack on his cell phone (loudly) for about 25 minutes, loudly reaming out his dermatologist's office for "messing up his insurance information." Funny that he should be complaining about inadequate customer service, huh? At any rate, about 10 minutes later, the guy at the counter informs me that my car is ready. He had me pay with my debit card, and gave me a receipt. I was instructed to walk around the building, and get my vehicle. When I approached the area where my car was, I noticed that the tire was still off. I asked the mechanic what was happening , and he looked at me and said, "Your wheel is cracked. It's going to cost you at least $190 for this. IT's not going to be ready today." I tried to remain calm, but at this point....my son and I had both had enough heat to make us BOTH candidates for a nap and a little time out. I walked back into the lobby, informed the guy at the counter that my vehicle was NOT in fact ready, and asked what could be done to get me through the next 24 hours. I had to take my son to Ann Arbor the next day, and would require a vehicle. This situation had already taken up more than half of my day, so I was getting a little frustrated. "I can knock off $20, but that's it. I can put a spare on it, but we'll have a new part in for you tomorrow after 3:00. We'll call you when it's in." Flash forward to the following day. I don't get that call from these guys. By the time I decide to call myself, I realize that they have closed for the day. I opted to call first thing in the morning instead. I inquired about the part, and the guy said, "Um, yeah that came in yesterday." *I asked why nobody called me, to which he informed me that he was "Just the counter guy," and it is NOT his fault. I was then told that the part came in at 5:30, and they didn't have time to call me that late. I was pretty angry at this point, but I had to go pick up my son. I said that I would be in later to get the repairs done. On my way home from Ann Arbor, I got a nice call from Calvin (the manager?) He informed me that he was told that some "pissed off lady" called earlier, and he was following up on this call. He THEN told me that he in fact did NOT say that he would call me after 3:00, but that I was supposed to come in on my OWN after that time. I said that the guy I spoke with earlier (Jason) told me that it came in after 5:30, and that obviously there was a miscommunication. I reminded him that it was HIM who told ME that I would be getting a call. Calvin apparently dislikes constructive criticism, because he stuck to his guns on this one. He insisted that it was ME who was confused, and that nobody could have possibly told me that it came in after 5:30. He picked up the part himself at 2:00, and was back at the shop by 3:00. Yes Calvin, you're right. I guess that I must be very "confused." My mistake. No apology, no compensation. Awful read more

I went to tire outlet based on a friend's recommendation. I was told it would take 45 mins to an hour for alignment/tire rotation. Also, I was informed that I was next. However, I was waiting for them to pull my car in for an entire hour. Again , I was told that I was next. A loud mouth sidekick laid it out to me... "If you have somewhere to be then you are at the wrong place." These words are engrained in my head as their gospel. Common courtesy is letting someone know if you are behind. I observed another customer there also that was a bit annoyed at their prompt, courteous, and stellar customer service. I grabbed my keys and walked out the door. I hope the guy who recited few words of wisdom owns the place. If I owned the place he would be fired. So, if you have nothing better to do with your day, I would say give them a try. read more

I'm surprised these guys don't have a million good reviews-- they are honest, professional, and friendly. I've bought tires from them before, and just had them install new brake pads, rotors, and one new caliper. The cost was totally reasonable, and it was done within 24 hours of having dropped it off. How much better service could one possibly get? Any time I have a car issue, this will be my first stop. I highly recommend Tire Outlet. Also: they didn't do the most annoying mechanic thing in the world-- upon seeing me, a young, unaccompanied woman, walk in, most places turn on the dramatic expressions and try to sell me a bunch of stuff I don't need, thinking my knowledge of cars must be so negligible that I couldn't possibly know they're just trying to take advantage... this has happened to me at numerous oil change places and I have zero tolerance for it. I am always weary of auto-mechanics and tire-shops assuming that they are going to hustle you! Often times when I go to one of those type of establishments, they try to sell me nonsense and over-charge ten fold for things I do not need. The Tire Outlet, however I am glad to say was not one of those places. The prices were extremely reasonable. Basically I had a tire blow out in my car, so I chose the closest location to me to slowly drive my car to. As soon as I pulled up, someone was walked to my car and offered assistance. I was going to get a new tire which was around 120, but as per the employee's suggestion I opted to get a used one for 60. I found this to be an uncommon practice as I always figured they would try to sell you the more expensive one. I also saw a rack of windshield wipers, for 20 dollars for all the wipers on my car. They installed it for free with the purchase. So basically, I got there at 11:15, they installed my tired in 20 minutes as well as the windshield wipers for a total of $80. I was out of there after paying the bill by 11:45. I was impressed by the price, the service, and quality of work. I recommend this business to anyone looking for a fair deal. read more

I've never been treated like this by an employee or business owner. I've used them before without incident and was pleased with the service until my experience today. I was told by Calvin (manager?) my car has "aftermarket" wheel locks and they where unable to remove the rim. At a cost of $85 they would use a blow torch and cut the locking lug off. I asked to look at the issue and was met with an attitude and was told that they had already spent too much time and every time I've brought my car in they have had to spend "hours" changing my other tires cause I have aftermarket bul$?&t After looking at the wheel lock it was obvious that it had been stripped out by the tech trying to remove the wheel lock. When I returned to speak with Calvin I was told to take my car somewhere else and that their techs couldn't have stripped out the lock...but it was the locks fault for being a piece of crap. The locks are the some of the best you can buy and came on the car when it was purchased but cost $150 to replace. They are ruined now. After being thoroughly cussed out by this guy in the lobby in front of other customers. I told this guy to go f$&k himself and walked out. I was followed into the parking lot and threatened by Calvin and was told I was messing with the wrong f$&?!€£ person and he would break my f$&?€£ neck right where I stand. I didn't continue this stand off because the amount of rage and anger I saw in his eyes. Must have been having a really really bad day...so I just got in my car and left. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT patronize this place unless you want a chiropractic adjustment by their hot headed employee. I've been here twice. It's the closest place to my house. The first time there were no problems. The second time not only were there no problems, but the job was done fast and they even created an option to save me a few bucks. The guys in the shop were nice and respectful to me. I did not wait in the lobby because I had to go to work, so I asked them to just call me when it was ready. I was prepared to have to get it the next day, but it was done in just three hours. I needed a tire repair, lug nut replace (two were stripped) and a repair on my tire sensor. It was easy and painless, probably because I left my car there (didn't wait in the lobby) and also because I can walk there from my house. I know five stars is a lot, but it's a tire shop. They are still in business, putting in endless hours and continuing to add to their list of loyal customers, along with opening a 2nd store. And....if I were to write another review for them, I would go into much more detail why I would not hesitate to refer friends and family to them. Well here's my 2nd review and it's for The Tire Outlet in Ferndale. Auto maintenance is a necessity of life and being that many women don't have much knowledge in that area, they often end up paying much more for services and repairs. Or they just push their luck and hope for the best like my daughter recently did with her Jeep Compass. Her roommate highly recommended The Tire Outlet, whom she has done business with over the last several years. So I drove it in there Tuesday the 28th with no forewarning, expecting the worst, especially after reading reviews and seeing someone was so dissatisfied with their experience. To sum it up, I was out of there in less than an hour, spending much less than I anticipated. Most importantly, I am confident the vehicle my daughter is driving to and from her place of employment (and all the places in-between) is safe. In her words, "It feels like a whole different car". I paid $240 for a set of used tires. After a couple of weeks I had to start filling one of the tires with air. I then noticed how dry rotted the tires were. I dealt with it for a few months until one of the tires went flat through the dry, cracked side wall. I had 3 other crap tires on the car, but just wanted the one flat tire replaced. This owner acted like it was putting him out to SELL me a tire for $50 that is a different brand and size. This company sucks and I will advise every person I know not to go to this rip off. read more
