I was given fair and accurate estimates, realistic timelines of when the work might be completed, and the communication was excellent. Out of curiosity, I called a couple other local repair shops after my work was completed to compare pricing, and they were all in the same ballpark. Worth noting is that Universal did not replace parts on my vehicle that did not need replacing, resulting in a final bill that was a little less than the original estimate. To me, that is definitely fair and honest. This repair shop is honest and reliable, with comparable prices. The owner initially quoted us a price to fix our engine, but did not follow through on that agreement. We paid $650 upfront and were told we could pay the remaining balance once we obtained the engine. Due to financial hardship, it took some time for us to get the engine, but once we did, the owner refused to honor the original agreement and instead tried to charge a significantly higher amount. I would have never agreed to have the engine taken apart if I had known the quoted price would not be honored. At this point, it feels like we paid $650 for partial work that did not resolve the actual issue. The engine was taken apart, but the root problem was never fixed as promised. Additionally, the explanation provided for the increased labor cost did not feel justified or transparent. Overall, the experience left me feeling taken advantage of. I strongly recommend getting everything in writing and requesting an itemized breakdown before agreeing to any work. Based on my experience, I would not trust verbal agreements with this shop. I hope they improve their customer service and transparency moving forward.
