My mother and I contacted this company for an estimate for air duct cleaning/sanitization at my grandmother's home. During the walkthrough with Rob and another young man, we explained that she is currently ill and staying with us, that other work was being completed on the home, and that we would need to coordinate scheduling around my work schedule. We also mentioned that we intended to obtain a second opinion before making a decision. During the estimate, He made a comment along the lines of, "Companies know Black people don't like to pay," as he's discussing the quote which we found surprising and inappropriate. Today, I received a follow-up call asking whether we had made a decision. I explained that we were still deliberating timing and would reach out to them.I said my farewell and was waiting for one back,but in return I heard the guy on the phone say "they're in deliberation" as if he's notifying someone in the background to which he responds respond "they're black they're lying" I said hello once more as obviously he'd thought he'd hung up and he says ok we'll be waiting on your call to which I responded no thank you" and hang up. I cannot speak to anyone else's experience with this company, but based on my own interactions, I chose not to move forward with their services. When I had made my appt I specifically asked how long it would take and was told 4.5-6 hours. That seemed on par with other quotes I had received and made sense based off of everything I was told they would do. Well fast forward to my appt and he was "done" in an hour and 10 mins. He claimed because he was experienced that he was faster and showed "before and after photos". Mind you there was no snake camera so what we saw was the entry and exit points only. I don't believe everything that I was told would be done, was and when I called the company while he was still at my house (without mentioning my specific job) I asked again how long it should take and the same lady said the same time frame. Then when I said I wasn't paying the ridiculous price for 1/4 of the time that was promised they told us we had to either pay or they would sue. Do not hire this company if you live in small spaces in the city. In addition, the company went against their own word at the time of booking the appointment. Below, I have summarized the sequence of events that followed. Please also see the photos of extensive damages they caused to our unit. 1) Four units in our building in the northwest of DC had arranged for RC DUCT CLEANING to come on 23 November 2019 to clean our dryer ducts from the outside of the building.  At the time that the appointment was booked, the company agreed to clean the ducts from the outside the building. Otherwise, we wouldn't have hired the company since the space is quite tight in the city and dryers are normally stacked on top of the washers with no room to maneuver on either side. Therefore, the technicians were supposed to arrive with a long ladder. 2) Our unit was the first to start with. As soon as they arrived, the technicians told us that they were going to clean the ducts from the inside. We objected and told them that it was supposed to be cleaned from the outside since there is no room to pull the dryer and safely place it on the floor. They insisted multiple times that they had been told by the company to do it from the inside and that they did not have a long ladder. After arguing back and forth, they insured us that there must have been a misunderstanding at the time of booking the appointment because that was the only way they could clean the duct. We cautioned them about damaging the floor, the walls and the machines. They assured us that they would be careful and that there was no other way in spite of what we have been told.  3) We gave up and took their word for it. They pulled the dryer and with great difficulty placed it on the floor in front of the washer. After they finished cleaning and put the dryer back up, again with great difficulty, there were multiple damages on both washer and dryer and the door and wall frames (see the photos).  4) Immediately, we noted the damages to the technicians and we informed the next unit not to allow to clean from the inside and showed them the damages to the unit.  5) One of the technician called the company and mentioned the damages to our unit and asked for a long ladder.  6) The long ladder arrived and the ducts for the next 3 units were cleaned from the outside. Now, the technician had assured that cleaning was only to be done from the inside, but somehow after seeing the damages he changed his mind about the correct way of cleaning. 7) We paid them, but on 25 November I contacted the company, sent them the photos and notified them about what happened. The company instead quoted us a two-line fine print and said that we were supposed to itemize the damages on the invoice at the time of visit. Now, this is a sneaky way for companies like RC DUCT to get away with their responsibilities. How are we supposed to have read the fine print, especially when we were overwhelmed with what had just happened.  I have never written such an extensive review before. Do yourself a favor and do not hire this company if you live in small spaces. But more importantly, do not trust a company that tells you one thing at the time of booking the appointment and does another on the appointment day. read more

I did the living social deal. Initially I was questioning my decision, but in the end I'm very happy with the work. Kenny came out to clean the dryer vent (duct). Everything seemed fine until the tenant complained that the dryer stopped working. The dryer vent was now completely jammed. Kenny and Demetry came out a second time and did some detective work. Kenny ran the cleaning brush while Demetry listened for the brush noise (it vibrates the duct) to determine where the duct was going. The duct was venting to a grate at the front of the house, and the grate was completely jammed. Kenny cut a hole in the grate and installed a standard vent cover, so now the dryer air can easily get out of the house. I plan to add a bird guard cage but otherwise everything is good to go. On a side note, I'm very happy we didn't have to cut into drywall to diagnose the problem. Good work, guys! read more

They will not prioritize your scheduling if you are using a Groupon deal. I waited two weeks for an appointment and then the technician did not show for my scheduled window. I tried to reschedule for the same day and I was told they couldn't because they have scheduled customers. I believe that I am also a scheduled customer if I have an appointment and they did not honor the appointment time. I called to confirm two days prior to my appointment and was told that I was first on the schedule, but somehow the day of they were "running behind." Now the earliest that I can be scheduled is another week out. Vey poor customer service. read more

I got the Big Deal from Angie's List where the service was $89 instead of $149 dollars. I was able to pay with PayPal. The company was very good about making the appt and calling to remind me of the appt window and offering to reschedule if I needed. The service tech arrived within the window and introduced himself (Delano). I showed him were the dryer was and the external vent. He inquired about the status of the dryer and was I experiencing any difficulties. I was not and got it cleaned because I was concerned about any build-up and potential fire since I did not know how long it had been since it was last cleaned (I rent.) Delano was very good about bringing his gear through the house to go out to the patio. He did his work, told me vent looked good as it was putting out far more heat than it did before he vacuumed it. He had me sign his work invoice and left. Probably took 30-40 minutes. I had no problems with the service or the tech. I would use this company again and recommend them! read more

When I made the appt., I asked "Dee-Dee" specifically over the phone if the technician would show up with a shop-vac. She said no. Tech showed up with a shop-vac. Strike 1. I sprung for the $50 sterilization & disinfectant. Didn't expect it would be in a spray bottle. Didn't think it would be a like a fumigation bomb or something like that but didn't think it would be in a spray bottle. Strike 2. Hell, I could've done the entire thing myself. Called RC Duct Cleaning the next business day. Dee-Dee doesn't remember me asking that question. I researched 8 or 9 duct cleaning companies before I made my decision; I asked all of them this question. Strike 3, you're out! I asked for a Supervisor. I told him my concerns & the 1st thing he asked was "am I happy with the results?" That's not why I called. He said the tech would decide whether to use the large air compressor in the van or a shop vac based on accessibility concerns. There was no air compressor in the van (I saw inside the van myself curbside) but the supervisor told me that every van had a air compressor. I asked the tech if he would have problems reaching any ducts or returns. His answer was a firm "no, no problems." Strike 6. Supervisor said that after the services were finished, no discounts or refunds would be given. Thought about canceling the check but didn't want the upcoming headache if I did. I won't be using RC Duct Cleaning again & I don't suggest you do either, Groupon or not. The Technician Kenny was great. He was on-time, knowledgeable & personable. They showed up late and I called the office and they tried to reschedule us to Thursday. I told him I'm just gonna cancel the appointment and his response was "that's just great." I understand that things happen, but they called and said they'd be here in 30 minutes, but didn't show up until an HOUR after the phone call. People clear out their day and/or take off work. Bought a voucher off LivingSocial. I had some trouble getting it scheduled, but I was super-impressed with PJ, the technician that came out to clean our air duct vents. He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable! He went out of his way to understand the byzantine ductwork of our house and recommended all sorts of things we could do to improve things. And not a "let me sell you something" type of talk, but a, "here's an easy weekend project and what you'd need to buy at Home Depot." Made the mistake of purchasing air duct cleaning on groupon, I misread their website, the line "We go by the NADCA Cleaning stardards:" is very misleading, I actually thought there was more posted when the groupon was up. The technician was nice and I was able to easily schedule an appointment but dont. I was not given an option of truck mounted or mobile service, guy showed up in an unmarked astro van and pulled out 2 wet/dry vacuums and one manipulator. Only did the two returns and did not touch any of the vents, I was sitting in one room the entire time and he never even came into that room.
