    Chicken Marsala

I've been back to Razzo's multiple times since my prior review. I love that the food and service has been consistently great each time. A friendly greeting when you arrive, prompt seating, and servers who are kind and attentive. The food portions are quite large. I'm in love with Chicken Marsala and that tends to be my "go to"order. It is large with 2 tender chicken breast smothered in Marsala sauce along with a side bowl of pasta. I can always take half of it home. On this last visit, I brought my Dad who was craving spaghetti and meatballs. The serving was very large and he was looking forward to having some the next day at home. He enjoyed the flavor of the spaghetti along with a glass of Zinfandel which made for a lovely dinner. We sat in a booth which allows you to feel cozy from the surrounding area of the restaurant. I still wish that Razzo's gave some history of the old firehouse building (possibly on the menu). A write up with images would be so nice. I was telling my Dad about the old firehouse and it is certainly would be nice to have something at the table as a nod to the old history of the building.

Was finally able to come to their new location, the last time I had been to Razzo was back in when they were in OV. It was a group of 5 of us and we all ordered different dishes to share family style as that is how we roll lol. We got the Roasted Beet salad, Fried Mozzarella, Fried Calamari, Pepperoni pizza, Meat Lasagna, Penne a la Vodka w/Shrimp, Pappardelle w/Sausage & Peas, New York Strip. Everything was so good! Service was awesome. We ended up closing the place down.

It's been a year time for another review!! This establishment has got customer service down pat!!! They know how to accommodate a group. Again I was there with a group this time a little smaller I believe there was 7 of us. Let's start with the fresh bread!! Who can't resist a nice fresh warm piece of bread? Not this girl that's for sure three pieces later! Moving on I stay with what I know and love fettuccine Alfredo with pappardelle pasta added chicken to the dish. So good, lots of garlic! The serving size was healthy. Made for a great lunch the next day!! Thank you Razzo for maintaining your consistency!! Food is yummy and I promise I won't wait a year to come back!! Highly recommend you give Razzo a try!!

Love this place! Razzo serves up fresh classic Italian American favorites in an old repurposed firehouse. This place is super comforting, from the big bowls of pasta to the spectacular and personable staff. Found Razzo on accident one day after getting a flat tire needing a place to wait for a repair. I can tell you that my day was turned completely around and I left full and happy. They gained a customer for life that day! I can't stress enough how great the food is and how well you'll be treated by the amazing staff here. Pro tip: there is an unlisted kids menu. They can do kids sized portions of pasta with butter, marinara, or Alfredo sauce.

I've only visited Razzo once, nearly two years ago, but my experience with them was a positive one. My mom and I visited the Little Creek location on a Saturday evening, 3/6/21. Razzo's current location (they moved from OV & used to occupy the building which is now operated by Karla's Beach House) used to be a Norfolk Fire Station (NFD moved into a new building across the street). I like what Razzo did with the interior - it has a rustic look and feel... and it felt comfy. We didn't make reservations, but we were seated quickly (we lucked out). Razzo was still in social distancing mode, so our table was right up against the bar. Initial table greet was fairly quick and our server was attentive, friendly and informative. We shared an order of calamari for an appetizer, which was cooked perfectly and had the right amount of crunch on the outside without it being rubbery inside. For our entrees, mom had the Veal Francese (lemon, capers, white wine & cracked pepper with pasta), which she enjoyed. I went a different route - I had a New York strip with a side of marinara penne. My strip was cooked to a perfect mid-rare - delicious and filling. Having both steak & pasta, I couldn't finish it all - but that meant leftovers! I had a great time at Razzo and look forward to dining here again. Thank you, Razzo! JV

Our server Christa was absolutely amazing! Her suggestions were great. We loved the food! I will definitely visit again next time I'm in town.

My husband brought me to Razzo for my first experience two weeks ago for a date night. This wonderful restaurant is housed in a former fire station and we loved it. After taking our drink order, they brought out a small loaf of fresh in house made bread with butter which was so very tasty. I would visit this restaurant just for the bread. We ordered an appetizer called Roasted Garlic ($15) which had two large cloves of roasted garlic, several different peppers, olives, peppers, sun dried tomatoes and warm goat cheese. Wow, this was an amazing and flavorful treat for our tastebuds. I highly recommend ordering this even if you don't order anything else...it's that delicioso! For our entrees, we ordered the Grilled Tuna with Asparagus ($28) and we ordered the Meat Lasagna ($23). We made a slight mistake and ordered the tuna medium....less cooked would have been awesome. It was still tasty but had we ordered it differently, we would have really loved it. The Meat Lasagna is a huge portion covered in marinara sauce. This is really large enough to share or to have leftovers for another meal. I loved the first several bites but I have to say that I feel like the sauce overpowered the taste of the meats and cheeses. The sauce is really tasty, but next time, I will order the sauce on the side. I love Lasagna and this was a really good one. We ordered a glass of Chianti ($8), a red Zinfandel ($9) and a beer called El Guapo ($6). The wines were really good, the beer was ok and I'm glad I tried it and I don't need to again. It's fun to try new beers and how could I pass up one called El Guapo! Our total bill fir all of this was barely over $100. I loved this restaurant and highly recommend if you are visiting Norfolk or working on the Naval Base as it's nearby. Our server was Sara and she was friendly and welcoming. She was as attentive as we wanted and needed.

While I previously posted 4 stars for the interesting remodeled fire station atmosphere and friendly service, after visiting this location 5 times, the positive qualities don't outweigh the subpar food quality - especially for the prices. I do not recommend the pizza, it is consistently low-mid quality. I don't have pictures of other items, but the roasted garlic appetizer is a joke for what they give you. They included about three olives chopped up into little pieces with about a spoon worth of cheese, along with a couple little pickled items. (compare to what a competitor Fellinis has as their equivalent bruschetta appetizer). I've been here with friends, my mother, and two dates, each time I was embarrassed that I recommended the place as they received their entrees. My last date ordered the vegetable lasagna and couldn't get past a couple bites. A heap of asparagus smothered in a flood of tomato sauce. The bread that they sometimes provide is okay, although I didn't get it the last time I was there. The best part is probably the waitstaff. They are always friendly. May be a good place to come out for a drink - although the well cocktails are also very overpriced. Sorry but unless they make some major improvements to the quality and quantity of their food options, I think I'm done with this place and will stop recommending it.

This is a nice little Italian place to eat at in Norfolk. I lived in Italy for 6 years and am a very hard judge of Italian food and this passes as a good place. For an appetizer I got the asparagus with prosciutto. The asparagus could have been cut better, the ends were very hard and should have been cut off. For the main I got the veal Parmesan and it was delicious. For dessert I ordered the cannoli and it was perfect! The cream filling consistency was correct and well-balanced. The servers were polite and had good conversations with us. They also didn't hold us to their house rules which was respectful. Definitely going back!

The décor is really interesting, as it has a secret dining room behind a bookcase and all of it is beautifully assembled. Menu is decent, with many typical Italian favorites. Starting with their arancini, it was decent. The temperature was warm, but not as hot as it should've been considering we expected it to be freshly fried, plated, and served. The jam under it was a little too sweet as well, but the texture and flavors were decent. Next up was their Cesar salad. This was my starter salad and it was quite substantial. The lettuce was great - very fresh and crunchy! The dressing was excellent, clearly made in-house and it was so very tasty. The combo of both was excellent! Lastly, I chose their chicken marsala for my entrée. It was plated quite nicely, looking very tasty. The chicken was breaded and appeared lightly fried, as the batter flaked off. The sauce was a little too sweet compared to my liking... I realized that marsala wine is sweet, but this might have been reduced or sweetened a little too much. The greens were inedible - they were way too vinegary. I took one bite and choked trying to swallow it down. Their crispy smashed potatoes were very nicely done. Overall, this entrée was just 'ok' but nothing special, which I found disappointing, as I could have ordered a pasta instead. Service for our dinner was nice and friendly. Prices are on the high end for the quality of the food preparation, which is also disappointing. So, over the past couple of months I've been to Norfolk twice and last time ate at Saltine downstairs in this Hilton and this time ate upstairs at Varia and both menus are amazing, service was adequate, and execution was lackluster - This tells me their food program is poorly managed. I like char'd crust on brickoven pizza, what I saw (and what they explained) wasn't a simple char, it consisted of hard, over-cooked cheese and toppings and frankly if I got either of those pizzas, I would've sent it back. Given the absolute beauty of these eateries and amazing menus, they need to work on the management component and they'll have truly amazing joints, but not until then.

We skipped an appetizer but the options on the menu looked delicious! The wine list was fairly modest but hit all the necessaries and we settled on a few bottles of chianti. Yep, a few bottles. It was one of those nights! As we awaited our entrees, we could see into the kitchen and there was a chef back there making pasta by hand- they are not lying about that!
