So my car was towed to Razor's by somebody that tows for them. Of course I had no choice in who towed my vehicle where (this was after an accident), so I was grateful to just have my junked car off the highway, not blocking traffic anymore.
The tow guy seems nice enough, drops my car off at Razor's, and I meet Charlie, who I believe owns the place. Charlie shows me a tow ticket for car, and the total was $350, only $88 of which was for towing, the rest of the fees were for charges like $62 for "special equipment", and $180 "recovery fee" which according to Charlie was for his labor. Well, he had towed two cars at once, in less than an hour, and brought both of us to Razor's and charged us both $350. So, you know, a cool $700 for an hours work.
So Charlie seemed like a nice guy, said he would "talk" to the tow guy. Of course, the tow guy works for him so he doesn't need to "talk" to the tow guy, just needs to be honest with me and realize that $350 is an outrageous amount for what the guy did.
I call back in a couple days when I've found a scrapyard to sell the car to, and he hadn't talked to the tow guy yet. So I give him another day. Still didn't call. Okay, one last day. I talk to Charlie and he defends the tow truck guy, saying "I wasn't there, so I can't say what happened", but even he had to agree that $700 for one job that surely took less than an 90 minutes from call to drop off is ridiculous. But he shifted the blame to the tow guy and said he could "talk to him again", but of course nothing will happen.
It's too bad, I though Charlie was a nice guy. Can't judge anybody by their apparent personality, especially when it comes to money. read more
