This seemed like an a-ok place. It's on the waterfront in Seward and is definitely overpriced for what you get. And there will surely be a long line of tourists. Hint: Make a reservation. But the bar area isn't too packed. And you can sit, drink, and order off the menu at the bar with no wait. I only had a salad here, so I can't really speak to the quality of the food. But it all seemed alright. It's got an ok view. The staff were friendly and attentive enough. The beer, wine, and cocktail offerings were alright. And it's tourist-clothing friendly. So don't be afraid to come by here after your fishing trip in your rain boots and all. read more

Rolled into Seard, found a RV spot on the water and walked up to Ray's for dinner, Beautiful view of the harbor. The food was excellent. Local craft brew on tap. Awesome chowder. This restaurant was walking distance from our hotel so we thought we would try it out. Wait time was approx. 45 minutes - no big deal, it gave us high hopes that the place may be good. We ordered soup, salad and fish fry (half and half) but when our waiter brought us our food I didn't know which pieces were halibut and which were cod. Salad and soup were a solid 1 out of 10. We barely ate the food, expressed to our waiter on how we didn't really like it and didn't get any feedback/questions/apology from him. Overall good experience. Started out a little rough, we had me and my adult son so a table for two. The hostess told the other one "put them around the corner" I asked if we could have another table since there were empty ones with views and other empty ones throughout she said this is all we have, dropped the menus on the table and walked off. I almost walked out, could not believe the rudeness. I thought o wont this be fun. Our server came over right away and got drink orders going and food ordered. Food was good, server was excellent. We did have a great view of the men's room for added bonus. I would have gave five stars if we didn't have such a bad start. Unbelievable view of Alaska Bay harbor and mountains and great food! We grabbed a table by the window after a wildlife cruise of the Kenai Fjords and munched on salmon and halibut sandwiches and burgers. A warm fish sammy covered in melted cheese is so amazing and warms your insides after a chilly boat ride. The service was laid-back and friendly and there were a few people at the bar already at 3pm! I love the Alaskan decor which consists of large plastic fish and whale baleen hanging from the ceiling! Sweet! Check this place out if you're down in Seward. I thought Rays was very good and it did not look like there were a lot of options in seward. We did not have big meals, we had several appetizer items. The biggest item here is the view, about as good as you can get. We had the oysters very good, I have had better and I have had a lot worse. Seared tuna was done real well. Wine, my wife had it was a disappointment, I had a dark local beer, it worked, when in rome. I think pictures speak more then words. read more

When we arrived their, one local person told us it's best in town if you don't care about price. Well, the price is expensive, but the food... meh. Appetizer: scallop, which is big and very tender and yummy. That's the only thing I really liked for that dinner. For entree, we had order for King crab, salmon, steak and fries... King crab is so so, not that big. Salmon is cooked a bit dry. So all the seafood, i kinda believe they are fresh, but just you can't taste the freshness. Steak is pretty ok though. Then we had sorbet as dessert. It's delicate but tastes ok. It's expensive, like 40-50 per person for our orderings as above plus a cocktail and a glass of wine. Sat on the Lower right section- closer to downtown and closer to the water. Bar section side was a little loud at a previous visit a couple years back. I went to lunch here with my family and it was a great family restaurant. We sat down right away and the wait for our food was not too bad. We dined at Ray's on 8/21/18. Good food, but other than the Flash-Fried Sockeye, nothing spectacular. We can buy just as good a meal for about the same cost at any number of seafood restaurants in the Detroit area. What is spectacular is the view of the mountains over the harbor; that's something that will remind you in a hurry that your not in Kansas any longer. read more

Staff was nice and polite, and quickly seated us even though we were a large group. Waitress was nice and helpful, answered all our questions. Food was decent but nothing special. I had the fish and chips halibut (2 portions) It was okay but the portions were really small about half the size you would typically expect. This place just disappointed me to no end. My wife has severe food allergies and made that known to our waiter. She asked questions about what they cook with and what all was in the salad to avoid eating anything that she is allergic to. Our waiter confidently said oh yeah no worries and never asked to confirm that the food was ok for my wife. It was supposed to be my birthday dinner and the food came out and tasted amazing for me. My wife however had to run to the bathroom because the food was cooked in butter when she specifically asked that question. Came here for a post-wedding dinner. Mostly everyone in our party was happy with their food. We had the roasted garlic as an appetizer and I have to say it was amazing. But the salad I got, which had grapes and nuts, was pretty bland and disappointing. They were super accommodating, as the wedding party brought our own cake, they kept it in the kitchen and provided us with knives and everything when the time came. read more

We're on holiday in Seward. We had a nice wildlife cruise, and Ray's was a short walk from the dock for dinner. We should have just gone back to the car and driven somewhere. It all started with a lengthy wait in the lobby. We had an odd-sized group of five, so they sat more common parties of two and four that had arrived long after us. It's understandable, yet still frustrating. We were finally seated, not in a nice five- or six-top table, but just wedged into a small four-top with an extra chair. It wasn't very comfortable, and were kept bumping chairs with the diners on either side of us. They claim you come from the views. Yes, this place has nice views, but so does the gravel processing plant and the town dump. It's Seward. I'd rather be able to sit comfortably for my meal than hunch over a small table, constantly shuffling plates and glasses, to catch glimpses of the mountains across the harbor. The service was S-L-O-W, and not in the relaxing way. Sadly, it was just as slow as the retreating glacier on the mountain across the fjord. After a ten-minute wait for a server, it was another fifteen before the drinks arrived. We ordered, then the server disappeared for half an hour. She ultimately returned to explain the large parties who had arrived before us were causing the delays in our service. We received our order of crab legs. They were OK, but pricey and not nearly as tasty as the ones we had in Girdwood earlier in the week. Then, the meals eventually arrived. When the server plopped my salad plate in front me, I glanced down to see dirt under her fingernails. Ewwwwww. When was the last time she bathed, or even washed her hands? My wife ordered a cioppino. It arrived poured over linguini. First time I've ever seen that. The seafood in it was merely passable, and the sauce tasted sweet. She ordered it spicy, but all you could taste was the sugar they obviously overdo in the sauce. Meh. I wasn't very hungry, so ordered a wedge salad. The lettuce was fine, but the commercial, bottled dressing and few red onion rings did nothing to make it special. Anyone can make a basic wedge salad that way. I've had fantastic wedge salads with homemade dressings, warm bacon dressing, fresh cheeses, and/or fresh bacon, but these guys opt for a lame lay-up even though they promote themselves as high-end. They're not. My daughter did enjoy her halibut entree, hence the two stars. However, dinner should be more than just food. Nothing about Ray's would make me return. We are here for a few more days, but we won't be back. My advice? Eat anywhere else when you're here. The Seward Brewing Company had MUCH better food, and good beers. read more

This was my favorite place to eat on our Alaska trip! The crab cakes, calamari and salmon were all amazing. It is of course on the waterfront so the view was also nice. Wish we would have eaten there more than once but had other places to try. read more

I put my name down on the waitlist at 6:10, was quoted 40 minutes by the hostess so decided to sit and wait instead of wander around (because they only call out names, not cell phones), but was not actually seated until 7:35, more than double that amount of time. My waitress was friendly and the food was quite good if overpriced. The Mount Alice Salad in particular was a waste of money -- a tiny plate of lettuce with a few crumbles of cheese and like 6 cranberries for $8. However the maple glazed salmon was delicious and very filling as was the fresh bread with olive oil. When I got the check I politely asked if they would consider comping my drink or something due to the extended wait time, and was told no because they were "very busy." ? was recommended to go here when we landed from the cruise ship. another restaurant bar in town said it was the best deal.. in comparison to others in town. so for king crab legs Rays sold them at $48 CAD/per lb and $58 CAD for 1 1/2 lbs so we took the 1 1/2 lb plate well you know nobody carries a scale with them to eat so we trusted the plate to have 1 1/2 lbs The legs weren't really large even tho they said they were at least 12 oz.. but they didnt look tiny like snow crab so we ate and were generally happy. until we got to Juneau and ate at another Crab Shack (not the real name, to protect the 'innocent') which had king crab leg meals 12 oz size legs for $26.99/lb CAD and these legs were HUGE!!!!! compared to Rays... i think one leg almost equaled the plate we got at Ray's.. the place in Juneau ONLY served king crab legs and you could see them cookng them in a pot at the end of their restaurant so you could see exactly what youre getting. yeah sorry Rays.. not up to snuff. read more

Great view, decent food, steep prices Rays is nestled between several restaurants and shops along Seward's waterfront/marina. Rays offers spectacular views of the marina and far-side mountains, while providing a semi-elegant seafood dinner in a typical waterfront setting. Although I haven't witnessed, I have heard people rave of watching otters play in the water just outside the seating area windows. Rays is a neat restaurant, but I wasn't overly impressed with the food, service or prices. Rays truly appeals to the tourist crowd. Those that are willing to wait an hour for a meal that they could probably get back home (except halibut, for most visitors!), to experience a view they could enjoy anywhere on the eastern Kenai, and to pay money that could be better spent on a fishing charter, glacier cruise, or flightseeing tour. Don't get me wrong, Rays is not all bad! If you are in the area and care to spend the time and money on [only] decent seafood, this is your place. Simon and Seaforts (in Anchorage) would be a better option for seafood if you make it that far north. read more

I was told this was the best place in Seward by a coworker. Ray's was ok. The ribeye, crabcakes, and crabs were delicious. I got the ciopinno and it was ok. The scallops in it were delicious, but I only got two of them in my meal. We also got the calamari, which was 80% fried batter. The service is average. Above average for this town, but just so-so if it were located anywhere else The title says it all. Been eating here at least once annually for at least 19 years now. Always a good meal, particularly for being located at the end of the road in Podunkville, Alaska. The problem is that most customers are tourists used to a much higher level of restauranteurship in the lower 48. As long as you don't expect this, you'll enjoy the best that Seward has to offer. The halibut is never bad. And the Kodiak scallop and Alaska spot shrimp appetizer was excellent! The prime rib was gone by the time we arrived at 6 pm (kinda early dont'cha think?). Service was about as you'd expect during rush hour in rural Alaska. If you're in Seward and want the best high-end meal available, this should be your choice. But keep your lower 48 expectations in check to avoid unnecessary disappointment. read more
