I find it interesting that a business which has been serving the local community for over 40 years only has 3 reviews, (albeit stellar,) and cannot be located on a Better Business Bureau search!
When my 21 year old daughter was not allowed to call AAA when her car broke down, last Sunday 12/17/'23, the officer on the scene called Ray's Towing service-- .6 miles away. He showed up right away. However, after telling her she could have the car towed to her house, .9 miles away, she was then told that he couldn't do that and had to take it to "his yard." She called about 40 minutes later to let them know she was coming with AAA to retrieve it from "his yard," and she was told they were closed all day and she wouldn't be able to get it till the morning. This locked her into an additional $100 storage fee. The following day, he brought the car from "his yard" to the mechanic he works with, which happens to be the business next door, and charged another $125 (on top of the previous day's tow of $175). At this point he has taken the car .6 miles and across the street and the bill is at $450 ($488.81 with tax). The towing and storage fee was not disclosed until his partner (the garage next door) had already serviced the car and included it in the bill. I tried to call Ray's Towing to discuss these charges and he proceeded to shout over me when I questioned the fees. I asked why the mileage had not been recorded, and he said he didn't charge mileage (probably because both tows totalled less than 1 mile?).
It is not my intention to slander any honest business owner. I would like to spare others from having a similar experience, however, and beware if you should breakdown in Glen Cove, NY, even if you pay for AAA! read more
