If I could give them no stars I would. This place is a joke. I ordered 2 1/2 pounds of shrimp with extra mild sauce. My total was $24.72 . So I gave the man my card and he swiped it then I signed my name on the receipt. As I'm waiting for my food I decide to check my account. My statement says that they charged me $28.66 so I was actually over charged $4.94. I go back in and they tell me that my bank must of charged me a fee to use my card. There is never a fee for using my card and I had just mad another food purchase prior with no problems. So at this point I'm pissed because I feel like they are trying to insult my intelligence. Never purchase anything from this place with a debit or credit card. Exhausted they are overcharging customers. Just think about how many people this happens to and they don't even realize it. Then he had the audacity to tell me that he gave me 2 extra sauces. Why would you give me anything extra?? That was an admission to guilt right there. I had already paid for extra sauce but you want to give me more. I don't know what kind of illegal crap the cashier has going on but they probably been doing this to customers for a while. The bad part about it is my statement says that it was paid to Rays shrimp house. If I had a fee it would say fees. What who you spend your money with. The shrimp was good but I'm sure I can find better. I'm definitely not ok with being over charged then lied to my face about it when I'm reading it in plain text. This place had changed over the years but it's still good. I always get the combo with the friend perch and shrimp and chips. The sauce makes the meal. If you moved out of the area, these are one of the staples your have to stop by and visit. read more

I don't even know where to begin. I was so excited to try this place. My mother being a lover of all things shrimp was too. All the reviews had me thinking I would not be disappointed but after spending $59 on 2lbs of shrimp, large fry, small mushrooms, and a 1lb of fish and chips and throwing away the majority of it, I can say it was one of the worst experiences I have had in a long time. The shrimp were mediocre and the sauce was needed to make it worth eating. The fish and chips were burnt ( fish burnt and fries ice cold) and upon biting into it the fish was yellow not white...clearly not fresh. The mushrooms were so brown on the inside and burnt on the outside...clearly not fresh either..and the large fry I added to my order were the same fries from the fish and chips redropped to warm them up to the point that they were super hard and on the verge of being burnt when they pulled them back out. I don't see how this place has such good reviews. If I could give it negative stars I would. Final verdict...this place sucks!!!!! The shrimp are probably small to medium size and for almost $20 a pound they should be ashamed of themselves. I would recommend Simply Seafood 1000 times over Ray's. read more

Well , this was my first visit. The jury is still out as far as me returning. Well here goes. This is a Friday evening around 5pm, when people who want fish are usually out on the move at the fish joints. I have passed by this place many of times over the last few years and never knew it was a fish house. The only way I found it was through Yelp. Not seeing the parking lot full or busy is usually a negative sign. In side, the location was clean. The menu was quite small. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was fried well and tender like I like it. While on the other hand, the fish nor the batter had any type of flavor. I hate eating something and not tasting what I went out to buy because I had a taste for it. The pricing of the food was good, just wish I could say that about the meal. If I return it will be because I'm curious on what size there large shrimp are, but for now the search for me is still on for me to find a good fish house in the Gary / Merriville area.
