The reviews seemed promising, but what arrived in the boxes was an edible tragedy. It went like this: Fish and Chips: Nasty AF. Catfish Nuggets: Nasty AF. 1/2 Whiting: Nasty AF. 1/2 Shrimp: Nasty AF. The Fries: Yes, even the humble potato turned its back on me. Nasty AF. This establishment is screaming, "We've been here for years, we're seasoned pros!" but their food is whispering, "We gave up trying in 2003." Well my Mom's appetite has been sort of poor lately and I knew that she was tired of that hospital food. I know that she really enjoys Ray's shrimp so I placed our order and surprised her with it when I went to visit. I phoned the order in and at first I thought that I might have called the wrong number because the person who answered the phone just said hello; I paused for a moment and said I'd like to place an order please. Sorry, yet I digress ; I picked up our food and went straight to the hospital. I ordered Mom a pound of shrimp and for me, a half pound of catfish nuggets. Mixed sauce on everything (hot & mild) even the fries. I was so hungry that I failed to take any new pictures of the food. My Mom was so happy that I brought her some Ray's shrimp because it's her favorite and she hadn't eaten all day. The meal was delicious as usual and we both enjoyed it immensely. Ray's shrimp house is not a sit down kinda restaurant but there is some seating inside; but I guess when your food is that Good you tend to overlook all that stuff. I was a little worried about trying this place based on some of the reviews, but I visited today. It was absolutely delicious. I had to call a couple times before they answered, but they were extremely pleasant. They said my order would be ready in about ten minutes. I got there a couple minutes early, but they hadn't dropped my order. I had to wait about ten minutes or so after I arrived. They have a fairly small menu (perch, catfish, shrimp, chicken and some sides like fries, mushrooms, cheese sticks, poppers)...I ordered the perch and fried chicken gizzards. Since I had a 25 minute drive to get home I tasted a piece of fish in the parking lot. It was so good. It was crispy and hot! The only critique I have is that they need to season the batter more. Even though the fish needed more salt, it was still delicious! The staff were polite and friendly. The restaurant lobby is tiny, but they have chairs for people while they wait. Not really dine-in. At almost $20 for a pound it's quite expensive however I love it. I always choose it with mild sauce on the shrimp & oddly enough it's served in a Chinese to go food container. The secret is to open the container as soon as possible otherwise the steam within the container will cause the shrimp to become a tad soggy. When I opened bag the catfish was steak and not filet. Not only were the cuts wrong the cuts were super thin. I tasted one of the fries and it was soaked in grease and had no salt.
