Ray's is located on the corner where N. Main, Studewood, Cavalcade, and 20th intersect. This is a location where five streets are in the intersection. It on the West side of Studewood in a small and old strip center. Ray has been there every time I have been in fir alterations. He charged me $30. to take in a formal suit jacket, a price I found to be reasonable. Here are some tips: 1. Ray only accepts cash, no credit. 2. Get an estimate when dropping off. He will write it on the ticket and you can hold him to it. 3. He will give you a completion date and say that he will call. He hasn't ever called me, so I recommend returning when he says it will be ready. Once I needed a repair QUICKLY. He did it promptly. read more

Ray does beautiful work at competitive pricing. He transformed my skirts and dresses which were too long and needed to be taken in. I'm very happy with his work that improved older garments with a better fit. He also lengthened the hems of four uniform pants during a half off sale. I went to Ray's inquiring if they could sew some patches onto a Yeti tote bag. A special project for sure, I would have understood if they could not have done it. Ray (I think) said he would give it a try. After a month and 4 calls all from me to the shop, he finally said they could not make it work. While the lack of communication was annoying, the project was unique so I get it. The 1 star is because they LOST one of my patches. They of course were extremely apologetic and said they would definitely find it. That was two weeks ago with no update from them. My property is lost...no getting that patch back. What makes it worse...it was a military patch that was worn during a 15 month deployment to Afghanistan. Cannot be replaced. read more

I take my clothes to them regularly for alterations, and they always do an excellent job and complete the work when promised. Recently, they started accepting credit cards, which makes it convenient, and they always call when the work is ready, which is often ahead of schedule. First piece of advice: ask how much the tailoring, etc. is going to cost. Second piece of advice: if they tell you when you drop it off they will call you when complete, it's better that you check in yourself. About two weeks ago I dropped off a pair of jeans to get the button repaired. I know, I'm embarrassed to admit that I couldn't do this myself. I know how to use a sewing machine and how to hand sew buttons, but this was a more challenging fix as the button at the fly had popped out entirely and there wasn't an easy way to reattach it. I figured that even if they were busy, this would be a very easy fix for a professional. I was told it would take a couple of days and that they would call me when ready. I should have asked for the cost of the job, but I gladly support mom and pop businesses and thought even if it was a little higher, I would gladly pay to keep a small business in business. One week went by, no call back that the pants were mended. It was really my fault after this point because I would remember I needed to call or stop by to check on them, but only after they were already closed. Finally remembered to stop by about 2 1/2 weeks after I initially dropped them off and was fully expecting to be told that they couldn't read my handwriting for my phone number or something along those lines. Not the case. They searched for the pants, found them and told me I owed $15....for them.to sew on a piece of fabric to the waistband (seriously sloppily like a 10 year old did it) and then attach a new button.) I didn't question or dispute the charges, because again, small business and I'm a fool for not asking, but that seemed pretty high to me. They did an ok job, but due to the cost and lack of notification, I won't be back. read more

I just paid $80 to have 4 brand new pairs ruined. I went on to get 4 new pairs of work slacks hemmed a few weeks ago with the shoes I would be wearing. I told him that I prefer them a bit long and he marked them after I had him lower the mark a bit from the initial suggestion. I was quoted $20 each for plain hem which he claimed he usually charges $30 for. I agreed even though I felt this was overpriced. I wanted to support local business. I went to pick them up at 10:20 (they open at 10) and no one was there, closed sign still up. Went back later in the day and he was busy in a call and had someone else get the pants for me. Fine. Got home and tried them on and they were an inch above the top of my shoes. Took pants back and agreed with seamstress on fixing length. We discussed sewing in additional fabric so hem would be in the right place vs. plain hem. Went to pick them up and plain hem was done, I was not satisfied and asked Ray's wife, who was minding the store this time to redo with additional fabric. Came back to pick them up a week later and work was not done. Ray was there and stated they didn't do it because there would be bump below the hem where the additional fabric would be sewn in. I told him that it did not matter because there is a bump there now do to the hem in the wrong place and that if they were not going to do the work we agreed upon she should have called me rather than wasting my time picking up something that wasn't complete. He was apologetic but clearly doesn't know what he is doing. I told him I was unhappy, grabbed my pants and left. read more

Absolutely worst shop ever!!! I sent a logo to get digitized. Checked in with them regularly to make sure all was going on target. Went to drop off my hats and shirts and the owner tells me he can't do it. They won't email me the digitized file so I could get it done somewhere else. I had a deadline he was well aware of. I was never able to get my stuff done embroidered in time for my event. To add insult to injury..he kept hanging up on me every time I called. Such a jerk!!!!! Rays quality of work has gone down since the original owner passed away, the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down . I recently took some items I in to be shortened and was charged 30.00 for on pair of paints. When the average local cleaners cost less then that, and the work is being done by someone who worked at a cleaners. read more

Terrible service took in pillow shams to have initials put on the shams. When I took the items to drop off, I noted on the door a sign that read " mask needed to be worn " this was very early on when mask were not mandated. I had forgotten mine in my car... I promptly went back into my car before opening door or walking in to grab my mask however when I was in the store the owner did not wear his.... I understand his business his right .... I respected that. I dropped off the pillow shams there were two of them I informed him that I wanted an N and a W my initials one letter on each Sham. I called him for weeks this started in September... he ignored my calls for about a month. I received a call in October that he would send me pictures of what he had done. I did not get any pictures of any pillowcases until October 15 and what he did was put a W and an N on one pillowcase together... I asked him what that stood for since my initials were not WN but iN W and reminded him that I wanted one letter on each sham. Since then he blocked my calls and when I do get through to leave a message he does not return any calls. I spoke to him several times in November and he told me he was human and made a mistake. I told him I understood and if he could just make it right by purchasing some pillowcases and correcting the issue this could be worked out. I even sent him my order of my duvet and shams so that he could try to get some shams as close to the ones that he destroyed but he is so irresponsible to not even respond to a phone call or text. I have been to his store a couple times. I called him once and he did not answer the owner of the property was there she called him and he immediately answered her call, she even told him that I was outside trying to reach him he knew exactly who I was and he did not return my calls. All I can say is if you make a mistake you can corrected the problem to keep your customers happy.... I understand we are all human and we make mistakes but I have given him every option that there could be to correct this problem but he does not even return calls or tries to correct the issue terrible service is all I can say... be aware if he makes a mistake he will never make it right ! read more

I took my mother's suit to Ray to have it altered for me to wear to her funeral and HE RUINED MY MOTHER'S SUIT!!!! I told him that the suit belonged to my mother and I wanted to wear it to her services. I dropped it off on a Tuesday evening and received a call that it was ready on Thursday. When I went to pick it up Friday morning the skirt was low in the front, high in the back and the jacket was not done correctly. He assured me that they would fix it. I go back on Saturday to pick up the suit and now the skirt is worst! the skirt was cut very uneven (it looked like it was done by someone drinking) the jacket had not been touched. I spoke to him on the phone and he waits until then to inform me that cutting the skirt at a certain point would mess up the split in the skirt. In order to try to make the skirt right, much more had to be cut to try and even it up. My heart was broken...I could not wear her suit to her funeral and after "fixing" the skirt it is now shorter that I prefer to wear. He charged me $80.00 to ruin my mother's suit and offered me nothing more than an apology. Do not trust them to do work for you! read more
