The guys at Ray's are super nice. Only one other couple eating here so service was fast and helpful. We ordered some cheese slices to go. They asked if we would mind a slight wait. They wanted to make up a new pie for us. Great! We had a seat and waited patiently. The boxed pie was ready to go quite quickly. One of the staff brought the box to our table and thanked us. Nice service! I reheated the pizza since it was cold. The slices were big in size. We thought the pizza was good and a bit on the salty side which no doubt is from the cheese. The crust was chewy. Finding decent pizza in Arizona can often seem to be a futile, often hopeless mission. Lou Malnati is decent for deep-dish Detroit-style pizza. If you're looking for true New York-style or Neapolitan pizza most people should give up hope for finding any here. Ray's put's up signs of New York in their shop, but that's a deception. Ray's pizzas are bland, mediocre, and boring. The crust is hard and stiff absolutely devoid of any flavor. Likely Ray's uses poor flour (i.e., cheap or the wrong flour). Sauce is tasteless. Cheese and other toppings have an odd, off-putting smell. These are hideous pizzas. As for the ambiance, the place is dirty and the seating upholstery is torn, worn, and ripped. Not even the minimal effort of duct-taping was made. Decor is bland and uninviting and uncomfortable. The New York sign is a joke--funny if everything else about this place wasn't so sad. We had a take out order of wings and pizza last night. The wings were great (I ordered extra crispy), the pizza was not. Do you guys cook the pizza then add toppings? There was no evidence that the toppings had been anything more than slightly warmed, yet the crust was rock hard. Did we get a bad one or are they always like that? We loved the look of your seating area and wanted to eat in next time but the pizza was terrible, so unless that was just a dud, we won't be back, I'm sorry to say. read more

Craving New York pizza, we were! What better place to go than Ray's pizza. Wanted to try their Sicilian monster pizza. It's so huge! Enough to feed about 4 people. It has thick crust and lots of toppings. The crust had nice crunch and chewiness to it, exactly what we were craving. Their regular round pizzas are delish as well. Thinner crust just as good with plenty of toppings without being too salty. Highly recommend. read more

Well, I wanted to like this order but it unfortunately fell short. I ordered a large pepperoni with mushrooms and jalapenos. Their was barely any mushrooms and the crust needs much more crunch and flavor. Its what you expect from a true New York style pizza. This doesn't live up to the style name. We also had a meatball sub with cheese and banana peppers. Barely any banana peppers, the cheese was half melted and tasted like cheap, store bought kroger brand type. The sauce lacked flavor and even though I specifically asked for sauce on the side, the sandwhich was completely drenched. The buns was therefore soggy and just destroyed the entire sandwich. I grew up in Boston so I know real food when I taste it. Unfortunately, this isn't it. read more

We ordered a Meatball Calzone and 2 slices of cheese pizza. The Calzone only had 2 meatballs in it, the bread was over cooked, and very crusty (Dry), the cheese slices were very thin and hardly any sauce or cheese on them. The food was not good at all. You can judge a pizza place by its cheese pizza. We love their Extra cheese, cooked a little extra. Easily one of the best around. I gave them a try a few years ago and now we get it all the time. I've also had some pepperoni and other toppings which are also good, but the extra cheese pizza is epic. Great crust, flavorful sauce, nice salty cheese to tie it all together. I get that everyone wants to call themselves Ray's after the NY place but this Ray's does not remind me of any other Ray's pizza. Food not bad, however floors are filthy black. They need degreaser / Simple Green. Bathroom had no paper towel and was filthy. Urinal wrapped in plastic? Went into ladies room and it stunk like sewer. Now, if I see this, what will I see in the kitchen? Logged into Maricopa County Environmental website, and this establishment is not participating in the award program. Why? Raid insect killer in the walk in cooler. I've been ordering pizza's from here since 2006. Since then, my family has probably ordered over 700+ pizzas, but tonight will be our last. When I got to the counter, I asked for a beer, & was told I am closing. I said, " Can you just give me 10 minutes, I'll be done before closing." The owner then commented, "You are lucky I even made your pizza, I've been here for 2.5 hours for a lousy $17, no I'm closing early tonight." I commented, "You know I've been coming here for over 15 years, I may not be your biggest, but I'm certainly a good customer. The owner then commented, "You've been here maybe three times." A basic Ray's. Came in just for quick slices. Slices were fresh and hot. But the owner (I think) with his mask well below his nose, almost as a chin strap, was disappointing. If we hadn't been 10 days after our first shot, I would have turned around and walked out. Not a pleasant experience... I like to find the positive in most anything, but trying to do that for this location of 'Famous Ray's Pizza' is going to be a challenge. We went in because Jared was craving a slice or two of pizza and we were headed north for the weekend. At other pizza joints around town, you can literally walk in and choose your slice from the counter and it is ready to go... not the case here. Jared ordered his slices and I ordered what I thought would be a grilled chicken salad. Side note - Jared questioned the girl taking our orders about what kind of meats and cheeses they use for their sandwiches and she had no idea. He wanted to hear 'Boar's Head,' but he got a clueless expression instead. Anyways, back to our order... Not only could he not choose his slice, but we waited a good 10 minutes for the slices and the salad... which would be ok if the food were good. Unfortunately, the pizza was really greasy and the salad came with fried chicken (not grilled as I thought) and not only fried, but fried with a huge piece of hair inside it... GROSS! Since I did say I try to find the positive, I will say that when we made the restaurant aware of the hair in the salad, they offered to replace it, give us a pizza, or give us our money back... I am very happy with a recent visit to this Ray's location. I was craving a meatball sub for dinner and decided to try Ray's. There are so many options in my area for pizza/pasta/subs and I'm glad I went to Rays. The girl at the counter was super nice and my food came out relatively quick. I ordered a meatball parm and a Coors Lite. My sub was hot and flavorful. The sauce, cheese, and roll were all on point. The meatballs themselves were nicely seasoned and had good texture. After finishing my sub, I decided to be a fatty and ordered a slice and another beer. They ran out of slices and had to make a fresh pie. No complaints on my end, I'm happy to wait a few minutes longer for a fresh slice. I will definitely be back in very soon. read more

Wife and I decided to give this place a try the other day. As we walk down the sidewalk in front of the entrance of the store we see a man sitting there smoking a cigarette. Would rather not walk through a cloud of nasty cigarette smoke when entering a place to eat. As we were deciding what we wanted the cigarette smoking man comes in and starts tossing pizza dough with his bare hands. He did not wash his hands. We really could not believe he did not wash his hands. How gross!! This man has no clue. Multiple health code violations. Smoking in front of the entrance. Not washing your hands. I don't want your saliva or nasty tobacco smell on my pizza. If anyone wants a pizza with the toppings of tobacco and saliva Rays in Cave Creek is for you.
