I worked for Roths IGA in Silverton for years. Orville Roth taught his employees "customer service ". I wouldn't mind paying $1 OR $2 more per item, at Rays, if the customer service was great. But, I'm sorry, it's not. Train your employees or drop your prices. read more

This place is wacky. They definitely have everything you need, but a lot of stuff is weirdly not stocked. All the employees seem to hate working there which is odd because it's employee owned. The store was clean but the staff really makes you feel unwanted. The quality of the produce and the selection of items is adequate. Prices are high but that's the area for you. The deli has a lot of deli meat pre-sliced but not packaged and it's in a case that is poorly lighted. It seemed very unappetizing and the employee seemed annoyed when I asked for a meat that needed to be freshly sliced. The liquor selection was disappointing. I would recommend going elsewhere, but nothing else with a comparable selection is close by. read more

I shop here often and stop by multiple times per week for basic items. Unfortunately the mark up on all items store wide make it impossible to shop here regularly for my groceries, so i actually find it more financially feasible to drive to the next town over for my weekly grocery stock up. For the past month or more Rays has been out of all yogurt. Please go to the dairy aisle and see how vacant the entire section is. There's no yogurt. Only Yoplait and no one eats that garbage. I ventured over to produce and every banana is bright bright green. Every avocado rock hard yet priced at $2.49-3.99. Often I have rung up an item at self check out only to discover I'm being charged more than the listed sticker price and have had to flag down clerks to correct these issues (multiple times). The deli food is down right disgusting. Do they clean the fryers ever? The deli chicken is inedible. This store fails the town and only caters to the well off retirees In the area. It doesn't serve the working class folk who need an affordable grab n go lunch option. Do better. Be reasonable. This store manager has to be the wealthiest Rays store manager ever. straight gouging this town for all we've got. Complete and total rip off. read more

Today I visited Rays and had difficulty getting any help from either the deli or meat department. Corn on the cob was 7.99 for each ear! The cashier began bagging my groceries. At the bottom of the bag she placed my fresh spinach and eggs. I had many things that would have crushed both these items. I had to start removing items and putting them separately in my cart. Absolutely awful do not go here if you have any other choice, they're a little grocery store in the middle of nowhere and I feel sorry for the people in the town that have to shop here. The produce was all wilting and old and some of the food I got, I actually had to throw away the cheese that I took very special care to make sure it wasn't moldy didn't even last week before mold started growing, what a waste of money and they are super overpriced. Ray's is a good store with a fresh assortment of produce and a decent bakery section. The store is clean, has a huge wine selection and a good ethnic food section as well. Not having many options in the direct Sisters area, you are going t pay higher prices which Ray's has in no short measure. Not a bad spot to shop in a pinch but a little expensive for your standard weekly shopping. read more

This is specific to the State run liquor store at Rays. The grocery store itself is outstanding. Today I went in to liquor store within Rays. On the shelf I found Pendleton midnight on sale. I went to the counter and made my purchase. As I walked off ut I looked at the receipt and saw that the clerk charged me full price. I returned to the clerk who was checking in new inventory. I told him he charged me full price for an item on sale and he ignored me while continuing with his paperwork. 45 seconds later he said "what's the problem?". I told him I was charged full price for a sale item. He replied "well the register is right". I again told him the shelf indicated the sale price. He said "it's state run. I can't help you". Fast forward to the manager. "The register is right". I explain to him about the sales tag on the shelf. "Its state run. I can't help you". I showed him the sales tag. He replied "this expired February 28". It's April 6. Doesn't seem like the manager is aware of his inventory and the customer service is less than acceptable. Shop elsewhere. read more

I like Rays because it has everything you need in one spot. It's not the nicest market but it's better than a typical supermarket. They also have an impressive selection of high end wines (e.g. Cristal, Dom) spirits, and a good selection of craft beers. The meat and seafood selection is also better than a typical grocery store. This time during COVID I noticed a lot of their frozen food aisle was picked over. They also didn't have any Samuel Adams beer. In terms of safety protocols, the number of people allowed in and out was not being regulated. There were distance placements for standing in line and directions to go down the aisle that no one was following. There were a lot of people for a random Monday mid afternoon. Some of the employees we're wearing face shields and not masks which never makes me feel very safe. I'd give their safety protocols a 8/10. read more

I have to say, I've never had a bad experience in this store. It's in the same parking lot as the Shell gas station, which is right off the highway. I typically stop in here if I'm running short on time and need something on my way to Terrebonne or Redmond. It's a fairly large store, with a good selection. Prices are higher than the average, but they always are at Ray's Food Place in any town. It's the small town grocery store, where there aren't any others to compete with, so that's why they can charge such high prices. Unfortunately this is the niche Ray's has found and how they make a profit. They have a deli section with pre-made foods such as fried chicken, macaroni salad, all the typical deli options. If you want a picnic in the area, it's kind of a nice option to have, I suppose. The doughnut/bakery section is pretty decent sized. I'm not sure why, but it seems bigger here than most grocery stores. Employees seem a bit scarce in the store, and hard to find, so you're kind of on your own in trying to find things. Although when I have found an employee and had questions, they've been happy to help. Just finding one can be the challenge. Lol. All in all, even though I'm not a fan of Ray's Food Place in general, I like this particular store. Absolute thievery. Why is it these guys charge 25% to 35% more than the other stores? Simple answer is they don't have competition. So they fleece everyone that walks through the door and buys their products. They act like they are helpers in the community but they are not. If they were the locals wouldn't refer to them as Rapes. A jar of mayonnaise costs 3.50 at BiMart but at Rays it costs 5.99. A bottle of salad dressing 5.65, the same bottle at BiMart 2.50. it's like that with everything Rays sells. If you need groceries and you are going to feed a family, I suggest you sick getting ripped off and drive 20 minutes into Bend and save. You will get 30% more groceries for the same outrages price you would get at Rapes. read more

Sister resident for over 6 years. Absolutely horrible store. substandard produce, understaffed, under stocked and overpriced. They get away with it because they're the only big grocery store in town. Oliver Lemons a much better store for quick stops. We shop in Redmond or Bend regularly to avoid Rays. read more

Don't shop here if you can help it. The men seem to be mean and bossy. One guy was really nasty to me about greens for my rabbit. (No, I am not a crazy old lady. I am a highly educated, well-to-do woman with a rabbit). Inventory is way behind the times, and shelf stocking is pathetic. No excuse. This is Central Oregon in the 2020s, Ray. Nice little IGA in Sisters..has a nice beer and wine selection and most of what i need when camping is right there. Of course its a bit spendy ..but worth it to avoid a trip into Bend to get a Coleman propane cylinder! Staff was also very nice. read more

Went to the deli cou yet for a made to order sandwich. Grabbed an ape from the produce area and fresh salad from deli counter as i waited for my sandwich. To get a drink had to go the opposite side of the store.... Although they were hussling it seemed to take a long time to get my sandwich. Anyway,off I was back on the road. Stopped a Shuttle Lake to eat. The food was great! Plan on doing it again soon. read more

Go get yourself a burger at the grill. Way better than DQ or Micky D's. Great burger for $5, just wish they had fries to go with it. Their fresh made chips are good but rather have fries. Wish Ray's had a larger produce department like Whole Foods. Over all the store is a little dated looking. More selection needed. read more

Prices almost 3X above normal!! I avoid this store as much as possible even though I live locally. It is so disappointing that their business model seems to be based setting up in small towns where they can have a monopoly and ripping off visitors and tourists, who are unfamiliar with the store, as much as possible with high prices with no regard for needs of the locals. Most all locals do their main grocery shopping in Bend or Redmond. For example, they will put Fuji apples on SALE for $1.99/lb when they can commonly be bought in Bend for less than $1/lb. A bag of groceries easily costs more that twice as much than other grocery stores. It's heartbreaking to see elderly residents in there, who can't as easily get to another grocery store, muttering to themselves about the highway robbery! Every time I'm in there because of some needed essential item, I buy as little as possible yet still feeling like a patsy. I avoid Rays as much as possible just on principle. It does not seem like they treat their employees that well, as most of them do not seem that happy, and I know that they don't pay them well at all. read more

I'm knocking my rating down because I discovered today that Ray's has increased their already outrageous prices. A pound of asparagus was $9.99. Bags of avocados were $2 more than last week. Dawn detergent was $2 more than Bi-Mart. A tiny container of garlic powder was $5.99. My bottle of kombucha increased by $2. It all adds up. read more

Stopping for groceries, we picked up a great marionberry pie. For a commercial pie, it had great crust. Of course the berries were terrific. I am now a marionberry pie fan. I expect it'll be hard to find where we live, but I'll never pass up an opportunity to have a slice going forward. Or even the marionberry cheesecake we were told about. Large Safeway type of store with good beer and bulk food selection. Prices are high and few employees were seen. I used self checkouts as there was only one human checker. I don't get the high prices here or at melvins. We have a place in Winthrop, WA, which has much fewer people than here, and prices there are competitive with those in Seattle and Tacoma. Suggest getting produce at Richards when it's open. read more

While they definitely don't offer the variety that bigger grocery store chains do, Ray's has the necessities covered. They also seem to carry many hard to find brands and specialty foods, as well as a ton of fresh produce. All in all, a great little store with friendly employees. read more

Please pay note to all the reviews regarding the grossly high prices at Ray's in Sisters. We're not talking 20 or 30% higher prices than regular groceries chains - it actually ranges between 50 to 200% higher! Go to BiMart for dry packaged foods - this will cut your bill by at least half. The worst mark-ups are on smaller canned or packaged foods - here's a couple examples of backpacking items I recently bought at BiMart: Bumble Bee tuna in foil pouch - Ray's: $3.39, BiMart: $0.99; Underwood canned chicken spread - Ray's: $3.15, BiMart: $1.74. Wealthy tourists may not mind this, but locals are really getting a bum deal if they need food and don't have the time or gas money to drive to Redmond or Bend. Time to boycott! read more
