Mike did a great job on my 5 yr old sons haircut. Given the circumstances (my sons crying, high pitched screams, constant squirming, being covid compliant lakeside summertime weather and a busy waiting area) Mike maitained his cool, and was super patient with us. He even gave my son a chance to cool off between everything. Unlike other barbers who would have just tried to speed through it only to end up with a very choppy cut. Regardless of the fact my sons hair came out very clean and smooth to say the least. I am so grateful and impressed with Mikes much needed, skills, patience, kindness, and humor during these tough times. I will definitely come back again. As a Lakeside native, I never expected to receive the edgier type of short/feminine haircut from a local barber shop, but to my delight, Mike understood what I was looking for. My nephew got his haircut here and recommended this place to me. I have tried many places as most people don't know how to cut short hair for women. I went to Khara and told her how I wanted my hair cut. She listened patiently and checked in with me at every step of cutting my hair. It turned out exactly as I had asked her. Khara was very warm, receptive, and just a very nice person. The place was very busy yet filled with fun and laughter and music. There was a camaraderie amongst those working in that place that was genuine. So glad we took our little guy for his first cut here! It's such a sweet place. Family run and operated. Felt like walking into an old friends shop, it's exactly what a local neighborhood barber should be. He was patient with my 8 month old. During the cut the barbers wife and kids came in and the kids needed cuts too. He told his own wife she would have to come back because it would be awhile, even pointing out he had to do customers that came in AFTER his own family. I thought that was very professional. My little guy HAD to get a haircut! Due to quarantine we had waited since March. I reached out online for recommendations of places doing men's/boys cuts safely during COVID and Rays was highly recommended by multiple people. Right now they are doing cash only and walk in, which is understandable and fine. The cut is fantastic! They were fun and engaging because my little guy was super nervous, because it was a new place. They are doing cuts responsibly and safely and are charging a fair price. I would absolutely make the drive from City Heights to Lakeside to get my guys hair cut here again! read more

Finding a good barbershop is hard but it shouldn't be the case when but Ray's makes it so easy! They treat you like family between the professional cuts, the clean line ups and good conversations you'll feel right at home. Louie hooked me up when I came in for my cut he knew what I was asking for and was able help clean up a bad cut from my old barber. I stopped by this place with my son, 13yrs old. He decided he wanted his own haircut done by a professional. Initially upon entering we were greeted and we sat down. There seemed to be 1-3 people just hanging out in the place, 3 barbers. 1 Barber, maybe the owner, I don't know the guys name, but he was rude, abusive, disgusting and a just rank. My son is 13 and this guy went on and on about his sex life. He scared a Lady away while I was there. She asked the wait and he started propositioning her, and chased her away. The next guy was reading the window outside, and he proceeded to chase him off too. He uses vulgar language, refers to his penis a lot and thinks he is funny. I stayed because we were there already waited 30 minutes, and this place has great reviews. He stopped badgering people after a while, I just ignored him at this point. My sons hair is coming along nice, so I start looking around for a register or some way to pay...the glass outside says credit cards accepted...so I assume they have something. My son gets done...I am a little irritated at the jerk off guy, but honestly the hair cut was good...I ask how to pay. The barber says CASH. I look at him and say I don't have cash, so he directs me across the parking lot, across the street to the atm at the gas station. I walk all the way other there, I am charged 2.50 to take out cash, walk back and pay. This is horrible business practice. If you are a cash only business, then you should show that on your door. I will NEVER return to this place. read more
