Stopped in for a beard trim. first time in this shop. Always seemed to have someone in the chair but it was wide open on this day. A simple beard trim and cleanup. about 15mins. I gave the guy a $20 and he put the bill in the drawer, closed it and stood there looking at me. I didn't know what to think except I had just been ripped off. Victor, not George the owner. I won't ever go back to this place for a haircut. $20 is a ripoff for a beard trim. I got a haircut and beard trim for $25 at Kings Cut. Should have gone back there rather than try a new shop. read more

My hair, being thick, fine and straight, without any trace of curl, is hard to cut properly without leaving chops and steps. Whereas, curly hair covers up mistakes. I have little use for barbers who get huffy about how great they are if I try to inform them aforehand and do just that: leave steps. I once met a profesional barber, whom, I learned, holds workshops around the country to train barbers in proper techniques. After explaining the problems barbers typically run into with my hair, I asked what he charges. "Ninety-six dollars ($96), he replied, no matter how long it takes, but I'll give you a forty percent discount." Still much more than I typically pay, I went and gave him a try. After spending around two hours, he admitted that my hair posed a real challenge, inviting me to return and give him another try. I returned one more time and no more. Maybe I'm oldschool, but his prices were too high for a regular haircut. George, the owner of VIP, is a young and friendly humble man, yet skilled beyond his years. He welcomes any pre-cut information customers care to provide, knowing it will help provide better results, meaning a pleased, returning customer. George cut my hair without leaving any trace of chops or steps. In fact, I've been back 3-4 times now, and will continue to do so. He has my vote! R.M. I've been coming here for over a year now, and I never had a problem. I came here again for the first in over 6 months and it made me appreciate the place a little better. I moved out from my dads 6 months ago and the haircuts I've been well have been. That's what the barber said, he fixed whatever mess the last barber left and explained to me what they did wrong. I have definitely found a new place for my boys to get a sharp looking haircut. Found it totally by chance after asking Siri for nearby barber shops. I called and spoke to George, the owner. They advertise a closing time of 7:00pm on Saturdays, but George said they would be here (it was around 6:30pm when I called). Since we are only about 4 miles away, I went right down. I was very impressed with the quality of my oldest son's haircut. George did a great job with minimal information from me, was quick, but moved like me he knew what he was doing, which he did. My son got a really good cut. We were going to have George cut my younger son's hair, but Victor became available so we decided to test his skills as well. No less impressed with Victor. He also did a really good job. Now I know we have two reliable barbers in one location. The price was very reasonable at $12 for each boy. Adult prices are around $15 here so an all around good place for the whole family. George said they have a girl who does a good job on women's hair so, who knows, maybe my wife and daughter will come here as well. I highly recommend VIP Barber Shop. read more

Been going there since they opened a couple years ago. I consistently walk out of there looking FANTASTIC!!! If you are looking for a $5 hair cut that takes 10 minutes then, go somewhere else. The barbers at VIP pay extreme attention to detail and will make you look your best; 30-45 minutes minimum for a great hair cut is typical but well worth it. I think a men's cut there is $15 or so. I always leave a $20. My young boys look dapper after their cuts as well. They are great with my boys. George was not there this last time but he had another gentleman there who was fantastically skilled. Well run, very clean shop. The kind of business we need to keep around. read more

Used to come here quite frequently to get my haircut. However, the past few times I've tried to go they are always closed (even during normal business hours). It is now Friday which means they open at 9am. 1013am and still closed. Find a different place that actually goes off their own posted schedule. read more

I've been in three times now and this is hands down the best barber in El Cajon. Normally barbers are a trade off and either it's a good haircut that takes forever or a bad haircut that's quick. I get a great haircut, never have to wait, and it's quick! Where else does a barber use a straight razor and a comb to make sure you don't have any stray hairs that stick up? This level of quality and he is still the same price as every other shop in the area. Shops always clean and most importantly in an El Cajon summer nice and cool.
