NOTE: I actually tried to contact Charles by email before posting this review, telling him of my…read moreexperience, but received no reply. Interesting story: I was in the process of buying a house and during the inspection process noticed several issues. One of them was that a brand new over-the-range microwave oven was sloppily installed. It was leaning forward at about a 15% pitch so that if you cooked anything in it, it would slide towards the door. It was a brand new, never used microwave. I found that strange. There were also major electrical issues where three different electrical panels were being used, copper wire tied to aluminum, etc, etc. Messina Electric was referred to me but I was told that they couldn't get anyone out to estimate the job for a week. I let the contractor know that referred them, he called them, and they were able to get a guy to come out the next day. The electrician who came out was an extremely nice guy. Took a look at the work needing to be done, which involved leaving room to put central air in the future, etc. He said we had 200 amp running to the house, but not into the box, and that he'd take care of it in his bid. I let him know that since we were dealing with the buyers, we'd need a bid soon, and he said I would have it emailed to me by the end of the day. I didn't get an email so I called the office and got a verbal quote of $3900+ to replace and consolidate the panels into one panel that meets code. I let them know that I was dealing with another realtor and that I needed a written quote, could they please email it. Sure they said. I went to my realtor with the verbal quote and luckily that took care of the issue. We proceeded with buying the house and I was on a tight time schedule to get needed work done on it, so I called Messina to get the quote emailed to me and to schedule the work. (Because after 3 requests, I never received a quote) When I called the woman on the phone asked for my name, and said she couldn't find me in the system. She wanted to try by the address of the job. When I gave her that, she said that all she could find was that they were at the house 9 months ago installing an over-the-range microwave oven. REALLY! Obviously I was thinking that if they did such a poor job on a $150 job, I wasn't going to give them a $4000 job, so I told them I'd get back to them. Amazingly, I was emailed the quote within the hour. My realtor suggested another electrician who came out, informed me that I only had 150 amp going to the house, and pointed out a few other issues. He sent a quote the next day for $2600.00. I'm not sure what was going on with Messina, but it wasn't a good experience.

I live in a house that can best be described as "old" though if you are kind you will tell me that…read moreit is "historic" or even "well loved." All of these descriptions are true, but for this review we will stick with "old." The problem with old houses is that they come with new problems. So many new problems! It's best to have a general contractor on speed dial, and I do! Associates is my first call, and generally my last as well. Now that I think of it, my first visit from them was my first day in this house. They were able to figure out why my water was not hot and repaired the water heater. Whew! Most of the work they've done for me has been similar, but all quick and easy. Then, as in subsequent repair visits, I was charged a minimal amount for a maximum output of work. These men are all obviously very good at what they do, especially when what they do is a bit of everything that you might need done.

Our realtor recommended Associates after we were given an outrageous bid on an electrical job we…read moreneeded to have done at a home we were buying. Jim showed up exactly on time, gave us an extremely fair bid, which was more than 33% less than what the other contractor bid. They did excellent work, cleaned up, and even though I was told that I would need to repair siding outside the house when they were done, they took extra special care when doing the work, and I didn't have to have anything done on the siding at all. They have since come out to do more work and they never disappoint.
