Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to shop around. To choose my Doctor, I was admitted for treatment through los Alamitos Hospital ER (a horror story itself). [[HIGHLIGHT]]I met Dr. briefly prior to surgery, and from what I recall, the conversation lasted a couple minutes[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After, I spent another 24 hours in hospital, still never saw the Dr.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 10 days later, I went to his office for follow up exam, to remove post surgery splint and to be fitted for a boot, which, turns out, is wrong sized boot, I'm in this for 6 weeks more weeks before I am able to put weight on my leg. Is it too much to expect that I'm provided with what I need to recover? I so wish I had read some of these reviews before booking an appointment with Dr. Klug. I could have avoided an afternoon of hell. I went there for an injured ankle and calf that I got while out hiking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I waited quite awhile for x-rays...and then the x-ray technician was so incredibly unpleasant...absolutely nothing friendly about her.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I could just tell the general atmosphere of the place by the attitude I got immediately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She was rude, and just pointed and ordered me this way and that and looked annoyed when I didn't follow directions quickly enough.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Next, I waited in the exam room for about 45 minutes, finally the doctor came in, took one look at the x-rays (literally didn't even look at me, the patient) and said he needed different x-rays[[HIGHLIGHT]]...muttered something about my tibia and then said possible fracture...so I asked if my tibia had a fracture (a reasonable question, one would think), and he snapped back at me about needing ankle x-rays (like this was somehow MY FAULT) and when I stated that it was my upper calf that hurt, he said something like "I know what I need."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] HAHAHAHAHA...how about what I NEED...I'm the patient. OMG! The arrogance of this man was off the charts! [[HIGHLIGHT]]He had no time for me or asking/caring about his patient at all.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He abruptly left the room saying he'd see me "in a few." After that, I waited in that little exam room for another 45 minutes. No one ever came back to take the other x-rays, and he never came back. I felt like I was being punished for their incompetence and he was pissed off about it. Whatever the case, I finally left without getting the "needed" x-rays and when I told the receptionist, she just sat there staring at me open-mouthed. The quality of care here is awful. They could literally care less about the patients. Anyway, a wasted afternoon. Time would have been much better spent at Urgent Care than putting up with all this. HUH??? There's no way that I can relate to any of these negative reviews! My experience with Beach Orthopaedic and Dr. Klug has been fantastic. I had a "massive" rotator cuff tear which required a very skilled, patient (almost 3 hours) surgeon to repair, and Dr. Klug came through for me in spades. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is true that he is a man of few words, but when he speaks, it's in your best interest to listen. He knows what he's talking about[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. My surgery was October 29. I couldn't lift my arm high enough to use a spoon to eat. Now, on June 3, with the help of an expertly skilled surgical repair, physical therapy (overseen by Dr. Klug), a dedicated rehab exercise program. I'm able to raise my arm to the sky. My choice? I'll take this skilled doctor over a doctor who is relatable. I've been a patient of both types over the years. BTW, the number of CSULB athletes who rely on him is really impressive! Next for me? Looking forward to a knee replacement to undo the damage done by a really nice guy in Long Beach years ago. I'll take Dr. Klug. read more

Dr. Klug has done a total knee replacement on both of my knees within the last year. Both knees were bone-on-bone. Dr. Klug was very highly recommended from two relatives that he either did knee replacements or extensive shoulder repairs (where muscle was detached from bone). He certainly lived up to every expectation I had. Both knee surgeries eliminated my knee pain and my knees are recovering very well w/o complications. My family can't thank him enough for all he has done. I give him my highest recommendation! read more

I met Dr. Klug the first appointment. There after mostly saw his PA. I rarely saw Dr. Klug. Then after 1yr and 6mos. I went in to ask for additional PT because my arm was regressing. He said, well actully your surgery is a faiture. I pretty much felt it was myself. It made me mad he wasn't man enough to just tell me that. If I hadn't gone back for additional PT I would never have known. I still cannot lift my arm higher than my shoulder, put deodorant on, button back bottoms, curl my hair, etc, etc. It has been 2 yrs. since my accident. I have become a left handed person. Dr. Raymond Klug at Beach Orthopaedic Specialty Institute has been treating me for a left knee that has been slowly deteriorating. Seven weeks ago, he performed a total knee replacement surgical procedure on the knee, and I could not be more pleased with the results. I was walking immediately with the help of a walker, and a week later moved to a walking stick for a few days. At four weeks, I was able to walk a mile and a half inside of three weeks post-op, and can go up and down stairs without using the handrail. I have been walking without any limp for a number of weeks now. Dr. Klug is quite soft-spoken, but can be most informative and engaging in explaining what was done and how things are going. My scar is vanishing quickly, and I am thrilled not to have throbbing pain every step, which is how I was existing before the surgery. I could not be more pleased with the outcome so far. read more

My experience with Dr Klug: A few years ago, I hurt my shoulder and scapula while attending to a patient. As an RN, I wanted to ensure that the injury was nothing that would cause lifelong issues. After doing an MRI, I was referred to Dr. Klug---ortho surgeon. I waited over 5 hours to see him. Maybe because it was due to being a "workers comp" case, but he treated me with absolute disrespect. I brought the MRI and he glanced at it (took it out of the Manila envelope, didn't bother to put it in the light). Then decided to lecture me, YES, as a patient, this doctor took it upon himself to lecture me and to be disrespectful. He didn't even do a proper physical assessment, THATS HOW YOU KNOW THAT HE DID NOT EVEN TAKE THE TIME TO CHECK ME, therefore, everything that came out of his mouth was just an invention of his imagination. I have worked in major hospitals with "MAGNET" status and with many surgeons who do open heart surgeries, brain surgeries etc (he is ortho---and must think the world of himself). This is the first time I've encountered someone with such horrible bedside manner. It'd be different if he was an actually GOOD doctor with awful bedside manner---you learn to deal with it, but he is not. But after meeting with him, I can tell you that he is in a whole other class of arrogant---I have never come across someone like him in all the years of being a nurse or patient. I would strongly suggest to go for a second opinion. After seeing him, I saw another surgeon who read the MRI--I had pinch nerves and a bulging disk. This doctor's carelessness attitude and incompetence just prolonged the pain and treatment. I would NEVER suggest anyone going to him. If you care about your health, please see a doctor who actually takes the time to examine and assess you. This doctor is verbally demeaning. Please see a second opinion of a competent ortho doctor. Thankfully, as healthcare evolves, this doctor will become irrelevant. read more

I was feeling pain on my right side of my left knee so I Decided to get a MRI. The report said I had a meniscus tear and a partial tear of my PCL. I go see Dr. Klug. He looks at the MRI and says "this report is wrong You have a full PCL tear" he goes on talking to me about PCL never once mentioning my meniscus. And he's recommends rehab for the PCL. Before the visit is over "I ask what about my Meniscus?? (Which is usually taken care with an arthroscopic procedure) As he's walking out he says "Yeah rehab will take care of that too" not looking like he cares at all. Flash forward two months of rehab still the same pain. I go in for a follow up he tells me "it's probably cartilage damage" he recommends me for 2 more months of rehab and if it doesn't, work He is going to do a full PCL reconstruction" still overlooking my torn meniscus I decide to get a second opinion. The new doctors reads the MRI and tells me it's meniscus tear and Partial PCL Tear. He recommends arthroscopic for my meniscus. Flash forward I get the surgery no pain. I wouldn't recommend Dr.Klug. Added an extra 6 months of walking on a bad knee because of him and he would done a reconstruction when it was not needed. I'll give a star because the office staff was nice and you can't give zero stars. Ps The doctor Klug story is longer but I shortened it. read more

Dr Klug is an outstanding surgeon. He first did my mother's knee replacement surgery a few years ago. In August my son ripped his ACL, his meniscus and had to have a tendon graft. Dr. Klug performed his surgery and my son has had no complications. Dr Klug takes his time and makes sure things are done right. We also saw him recently for my daughter who was having knee pain. She had been to 3 other doctors, one who suggested surgery and expensive shots. Dr. Klug was able to look at her X-rays and told us she only needed physical therapy. He is very knowledgeable and our family trusts his judgements implicitly. The office in Los Alamitos is beautiful and modern. The staff is friendly and professional. I love that they usually have bottled waters and cookies in the waiting room. There are large screen TVs to watch and magazines to read. I wish every doctors waiting room was like this! read more

Scheduling at there office is a NIGHTMARE! I left 2 messages and sent a fax and I get a call back 3 days later only to find out the soonest apt is 2 weeks away. I had to wait a week for the referral- Don't try calling the office all you will get is a voice mail and not a live representative. read more

So this review is long over-due (in fact,a year over due), but I do want to call out Dr. Klug for getting me healed up and back to the same activity level a few months after my injury. I was playing soccer, went for the ball, slid and landed on an outstretched arm breaking two bones in my right wrist (I'm right handed too). Dr. Klug got me into surgery a few days after the injury, repairing the bone with a plate and 8 screws. I'm very active and was really concerned that I wouldn't be back to normal, but a few months after, I was fine and started to go back to doing what I was doing before my injury. I just listened to what the Dr. said, went to PT, and turned out fine. Dr. Klug was always courteous, and his office staff were amazing. I'm not sure about the other bad reviews but I had a great experience - well as great as breaking a wrist can be :) read more

I'm sure this guy is a good surgeon, but Klug ugh is all I can say. Horrible communication. I've met arrogant doctors, but this doctor adds shaming to his resume. Don't ask any questions about costs because he'll remind you you have a LOT more costs going forward with PT, multiple follow-ups, etc. And be sure to be prepared to do EXACTLY what he says because if you question anything, he will shame you into thinking if you don't follow his recommendations -- like give up your vacation to go to PT, then you will be "damaged for life". Not. Gheez. If you can tolerate this kind of arrogance, by all means, go to him. If not, I'm guessing there are a lot of other equally qualified doctors who don't have the attitude problem. read more

I had experienced numbness on my right index and middle finger which I strongly believed it was due to my neck/shoulder pain and specifically in the C6 cervical spinal area. I wanted to see the first available orthopedic doctor since Dr. Ahnn was booked up until one week later. I took xrays on my neck and shoulder that day. However, Dr. Klug reviewed them and not only they told me that the xrays on my neck and shoulder were negative, he also told me that since I've only experienced the numbness for 2 weeks, an MRI or an EMG wouldn't reveal anything. However, when he did some diagnostic test with my wrist and my numbness started flaring up ONLY WHEN I TILTED MY NECK that would force the numbness issue in the first place, he told me that I had CTS (carpal tunnel syndrome) despite feeling absolutely no pain and had full range of motion on my right wrist. So he prescribed me 800mg of Motrin and had me take this 3x a day. I was pretty furious afterwards and asked to schedule a 2nd opinion with another doctor in the same exact orthopedic clinic (Dr. Duke Ahn of who I highly recommend). Luckily, there was something that opened up 2 days after my appointment with Dr. Klug. So I immediately took that appointment with Dr. Ahnn. On my appointment with Dr. Ahnn to get a 2nd opinion, I also decided to take xrays on my right hand to make sure that the CTS was either legit or not. Dr. Ahnn looked at the same exact xrays that Dr. Klug looked at and immediately saw some misalignment around the C6 cervical vertibrae that was pinching a nerve that was causing the finger numbness. He looked at the hand xrays and found nothing that was wrong. He immediately asked if I wanted to take an MRI to see the severity and I did refuse only because I had an idea of how bad it was and thought that 3-4 weeks of Physical Therapy should put me into the road to recovery. He also did the CTS related tests to see if it may be also a pinched nerve near the carpal ligament near my hand and specifically told me not to raise my neck where it would increase the numbness. The CTS tests I did showed no signs whatsoever. I just completed my 1st week of physical therapy and I am clearly showing signs that my numbness in my right index and middle finger is significantly decreasing. Bottom line is basically to avoid Dr. Klug at all costs. If you really like this clinic, you're much better off waiting for another doctor in the same orthopedic clinic or to a totally different orthopedic clinic. I would've rather have Dr. Jekyll examine my injury than Dr. Klug. Had I went with Dr. Klug's advice, I probably would've had a cortizone shot in my hand, then surgery on my hand that wasn't even affected in the first place, and still would've experienced the same symptoms plus possibly a few other ailments because of the high dosage of Motrin he recommend me to take. read more

Dr. Klug is a doctor with Greater Long Beach Orthopaedic & Surgical. I had a 2:30 appointment with him, and had to wait until 4:45. He spent less than 10 minutes with me, and did not tell me anything that I did not already know. (He told me that I have arthritis; I have known that for 50 years!) I do not believe he even listened to me; he kept talking about a torn rotator cuff, and the need for joint replacement, when my pain is radiating from the spine near the bra line. He left "to get some forms for physical therapy," and after 25 more minutes without seeing him again, I left. I subsequently had an MRI which showed a bulging disk at the T-4 vertebrae. Dr. Klug is an amazing surgeon. I had one bone sheared in 2 and the other bone was splintered from a fall from the deck of a boat. He repaired the bones with 9 screws and a plate and today I am back to normal and it as if nothing had ever been broken. I am ready to put on my Stilettos and go dancing. The man is a genius. Dr. Klug is one of the few doctors that takes his time and talks to you as well as listens. Marlena, Dr. Klug's assistant is incredible. I needed to see an orthopedic surgeon for an evaluation. I was referred to Dr. Woodson by my primary care doctor, but the office staff at Beach Orthopaedic kept pushing Dr. Klug. This guy might be a brilliant surgeon, but I found him to be more arrogant than most doctors. When he isn't making derisive comments, being generally condescending, or wearing a contemptuous expression, he just talks about himself. That seems to be his m.o. when dealing with me: I am not worth treating with respect, unless I am willing to sit and listen to some personal anecdotes about which I could not care less. Maybe it's different when treating other patients. Maybe he is one of those orthopedic surgeons who only think athletes are cool. What I find most concerning after I set aside my negative reaction to his non-engaging personality, is how he rushes through his appointments, does not seem to listen, and pushes surgery as the only immediate option. I realize I will need surgery sometime in the future, but it would be a bit presumptuous on his part to assume that he is going to be my first choice. read more

My husband has been a patient of Dr. Klug's for over a year now. First, he was treated for tendonitis in his arm...which is still hurting him today. After six months, Klug had the brilliant idea of giving him a shot of cordizone! Wow...six months for freaking treatment...duh, not winning. During the course of those six months, the office never answered the phone and failed I MEAN FAILED AND LIED about sending in his disability paperwork. After we were supposed to start receiving disability checks...and you know, the landlord and other creditors were not sympathic to our situation, we called to find out the status. Low and behold, they forgot to mail in the paper work! We immediately went to see Dr. Klug (for another $135.00 charge) to clear the problem. The lady in charge of the disability paperwork LIED in front of my husband and Dr. Klug. Funny thing is, the paperwork signature date reflected a date after she claimed to have sent it...JUST STUPID. Then, we find out my husband has a torn meniscus. Dr. Klug never informed him of the recovery time, told him it would take only a couple of days to recover and 6 therapy appointments. That is below the standard of care! Not to mention, the surgery didn't go very well because he has the same pain as before! I paid all the bills on time and even my insurance company paid 80% of the bill. Most insurance companies pay between 20% and 40%. So, I received a bill for $190.00, I sent two payments of $50.00 each over the course of two months and now I have a letter threatening to send me to collection if I don't pay the balance in full within.....5 DAYS! When my mother fell and broke her hip, I was terrified that she would never recover. Looking back I realize how lucky we were that Dr Klug was the surgeon that they called to look at mom. Immediately I was put at ease when he explained (in detail) exactly what she needed and what her recovery would look like. Because I have a sister who lives in another state who is a nurse, I asked if he would call her to talk to her seeing as though she knows more about this stuff and de said ok. After he left I started asking the nurses what they think of him, and they LOVE him. They said he was one of the best surgeons and that he was really thorough. The surgery went great (I was told) and Dr. Klug was very attentive during the rest of mom's hospital stay and recovery. a year later she is back to doing most of the things she could do before. After having heard so many awful stories about people not recovering from hip surgery, I was so grateful that mom ended up in the hands of Dr. Klug. read more
