Came to Dr Ahn for a trigger finger problem that I have been experiencing for years.. And because it kept recurring after numerous steroid injections which provided temporary relief and discussing with Dr Ahn, I made decision to have surgery for hopefully permanent relief. His coordinator and and assistant, Steven coordinated everything for my outpatient surgery. Great procedure and Dr Ahn explained the surgery and what to expect. Surgery went smoothly.. Recuperation took a while because it was my right hand and I have to say I am a active right handed person. 2 months since the surgery and my hand is great.. Strength back and surgery site all healed and in fact hard to see the scar. Definitely recommend Dr Ahn (with Steven) for trigger finger problems. Waited for a month for an appointment. Was referred for wrist and knee issues. Had a reconstructed wrist from a bad break that crushed the bone. Also had ACL surgery 21 years ago, that I wanted addressed as it was causing me arthritis issues. After explaining how I broke my wrist, being the victim of a gay hate crime, by an attacker that called me a f@g 10 times, then sucker punched me when I was walking away. The nurse advised me "We aren't authorized to treat your wrist". I asked, "then why do I have xrays of my wrist that my insurance authorized?" The Nurse literally pulled a piece of paper, and showed it to me, "see we only have authorization for your knee, we cannot treat your wrist". I got up and left the appointment. No point, as I'd have to make another appointment to get my wrist taken care of, when I made the appointment and got authorization by my primary care for my WRIST AND MY KNEE!! Warning, they are only concerned about milking every penny. If it requires extra payment for my wrist, that's on their staff to interface with the insurance, not the patient. If its that much of an issue, they should be confirming WHY and EVERYTHING the appointment is for when confirming the appointment. My primary care doctor, x ray tech, and myself were all told we were authorized for KNEE AND WRIST, and nobody said otherwise, then Nurse at the office puts the responsibility on me as the patient, and refuses to treat my wrist. Will look for another doctor....and I suggest you look elsewhere as well. Be warned, be careful. read more

Long overdue but Dr. Anh was great for my broken lower leg (ankle area). Had surgery quickly and recovered quickly and efficiently due to his oversight and guidance. I was able to return to my semi-professional sport in record time (even with him encouraging me to be cautious - which is against everything in me). I've broken both lower legs at separate times and Dr. Anh was the perfect choice to fix it. He used updated technology and techniques as well as removed the old outdated techniques and hardware (on my previous broken leg). I would trust him with any orthopedic need. I left this butcher a horrible review as the hip implant he put inside me caused it and my "other" implant to fail. Yelp has gotten rid of my review bc Dr ahn wrote some bs down here about being unable to do anymore about my hip. A. I wouldn't recommend this butcher to ANYONE! I sure as HELL wouldn't let him touch me again. He screamed at me pre op and made me sign something. I had no idea what bc he wouldn't let me get my glasses. He dropped me after he created an 8mm discrepancy in my legs that has had me in excruciating pain since 2013. He screamed that i was crazy and was repremanded when he arrogantly called my MD to say he was dropping me. My MD blatantly told him he knew hed screwed up and what did he expect? He left a careless, hideous scar and the implant was so painful that the last 8 years have been excruciating. I FINALLY met a brilliant surgeon. His name is Andrew Wassif. He works at Lakewood Orthopedic. He fixed the implant Dr ahn had put in. It was SO bad, they have to stretch my leg 8mm longer bc his couldn't even be fixed! I'll be having my 4th...yes, 4th hip replacement this summer. 2 of these had to be redone bc of Dr ahns negligence. If yelp hides this review bc this chump writes that he "couldn't do any more," this open forum must be rigged. I can't wait until Dr wassif corrects this idiot's work and I am without pain, able to run again and be free of any reminder of this horrible man. Dr Ahn is great, I have been suffering from De Quervains for over 3 years. I have had 4 Cortisone shots, have worn a brace 24-7 for 3 years. With no light at the end of the pain tunnel, my physician referred me to Dr. Ahn (3rd specialist in 3 years). On my first visit, Steven, opened the door and took my temp & was very welcoming. After my diagnosis of Avascular Necrosis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avascular_necrosis by my reumatologist Dr. Dolan in August of this year, I was referred to Dr. Ahn MD for he next step, a Total Hip Replacement ( Posterior Approach ) of my right hip on September 7th 2012. A very devastating medical condition and in my case, caused by past illnesses and 2 medications I was taking in the '90s that have since been pulled from the market. I've been in chronic pain at levels of 7-10+ for the last five years, many of the years on pain medication and, ALL of my attending physicians' including me, a PA-C conceded that the cause of my symptoms were connective tissue damage, tendinitis or just plain aging with a little arthritis thrown in. NONE of us had the forethought after MRIS, Steroid Epidurals and the like to have my hips x-rayed; interesting how one becomes complacent, and more interesting how we medical professionals become complacent that this disease is an age associated issue and not something ( at the time I became symptomatic in 2005 at age 49, now age 56 ) more associated with the symptoms the patient is modeling. I had two choices: Have the surgery before the end of this year, get well, walk better, be pain free, get off of the pain meds, and have quality of life with 20 years on this hip replacement. Or, end up in a wheel chair for the rest of my life, in chronic pain, on pain meds and quite possibly lose the use of my right leg from atrophy and lack of blood flow which in turn would eventually result in amputation. Yes, it was a rough 4 days in the hospital, I had a PCH Morphine pump that gave me a dose of 3mg every 20 minutes, the staff was exceptional and I was up for my first walk at 3 PM the day of the surgery. Dr Ahn made sure everything was covered and my needs were met as I told his attending "No, I'll tell you when the Morphine pump is discontinued, that I needed Norco every 6 hours in addition to the Morphine and, that I was bringing my meds in from home because the Pharmacy was dragging its feet getting them ordered for me as they did not have them in stock. Also, I told my Primary care MD, and Dr. Ahn when I was going home, that I needed a walker for my height, an all in one shower chair/toiliet seat extension; my needs were acknowledged and I was heard, not so much because of my credentials but mostly because I found a surgeon who listens to his patients and their needs and, he knows we know our bodies better than anyone. The bottom line is this, if you are experiencing ANY type of chronic pain and the duration is longer than normal or, if you feel the need to investigate thoroughly as in my case, orthapedically, get to a referred MD who will get you to the appropriate surgeon; in my case I was blessed, truly blessed to have found Dr. Ahn; don't wait, don't hesitate I came close once again to losing more than just my ability to walk pain free, I came close to losing everything ( remember my emergency appendectomy in May!? ) life has to offer. and thank you Marty, Andrea, Erin, Robin, Tess et al for being there for me with words of encouragement and love. I will begin PT for 11 visits, have been evaluated fo this in my home and will have the choice of how long I need it-Dr Ahn's staff set this up too! After a nightmare of trying to set up an appointment with Dr. Dee I was informed they no longer took my insurance (even though I had an authorization form) so they then told me to set up an appointment with Dr. Ahn's office who does accept my insurance. After getting another authorization form, I set up an appointment with again was a month out. 2 days before my appointment I receive a voice mail saying "sorry but we have to cancel your appointment and we will not be able to re-schedule right now" Naturally I'm pissed - but then I think I should give them the benefit of the doubt because what if someone was hurt or sick, etc. So I call back and was informed they canceled me because they are moving. Now why they scheduled a move when you have patients is beyond me rather than just setting a day or two where you DONT book patients. After asking when I would be able to reschedule and if I would be able to have first priority since I had already waited a month - she then says "oh and it looks like we won't be accepting your insurance" I don't have crappy insurance either. Then when I asked if they would do the right thing and honor my authorization since I had an appointment scheduled and verified she said that she would ask and call me back. 3 months later - no call back This is a place that does not value their patients but more the money they bring in. I have (what I hope is) a unique perspective on Dr. Ahn in that I have had 4 major surgeries with him. Torn quadriceps 3 times (not a "typical" surgery, look it up) and recently a torn rotator cuff. They all involved very long rehabs, major lifestyle disruptions, etc. He is not only an excellent surgeon (as evidenced by the fact I'm still walking normally, etc.) but a no BS guy. He gives it to you straight-up and gets to it and I very much appreciate that. I see some reviews here that question his "bedside manner". My wife asks lot's of questions, he answered them all clearly, honestly and patiently and she's a big fan. I'm not sure what else they were looking for? If "bedside manner" is what's important to you go see Dr. Phil, if you want to get your surgery done right and come out of it with the best shot at an optimum recovery go see Dr. Ahn. read more

I have been getting treatment from Dr. Ahn for my knees for a couple of years. While I am bone on bone with osteoarthritis in my knees, I am not currently interested in getting knee replacement surgery at this time. Dr. Ahn has been treating my knees with Supartz injections and PRP treatments. He is an outstanding doctor and when the time comes that I am ready for knee replacement surgery, I will have him do the surgery. My wife had both of her shoulders repaired by Dr. Ahn. He did an excellent job and she has gotten the use of her shoulders back after suffering from significant pain and limited mobility before the surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Ahn. read more

This Dr. Is the most arrogant man ever. He wouldn't answer any questions for me and when he told me that I was facing a 9 month recovey, I started to tear up and he yelled at me. He did my surgery well, but his bed side manner is nonexistent. I disagreed with him about my leg being infected and he called my attorney and said he wouldn't treat me anymore. That's fine , because I was not going back any way. I didn't fill the prescription for antibiotics or book an appointment and my leg is fine. In spite of my initial displeasure with the office through which he works, I found Dr. Ahn's agreeable bedside manner and expertise to be quite comforting. In a specialty where many doctors take the fast route to prescribing injections and invasive surgery, he takes the time to sit and discuss with you his opinions. It was refreshing to hear from someone who seemed to value patient care over monetary gain. He told me what I needed to do to resolve a recurring knee problem. In his words, "I don't care how you do it or where you go to do it, just do it [physical therapy/rehabilitative exercises]." I would definitely go back to see him and NOT another doctor that works there (see review of Derek Dee, M.D.) if something more serious were to happen to me. read more

This is the world's longest-delayed review. I shattered my elbow in 2005 -- bike accident. Dr. Ahn put it all back together, on an emergency basis, with a lot of hardware. A few years later, he removed much of the hardware. After undergoing the physical therapy that he prescribed, I eventually got back to biking, surfing, and other physically demanding activities, with full use of my arm. It took a while, but it was pain free in a year or so. Just to prove that this is not a fake review, I agree with some of the other reviewers that he is not a warm and fuzzy person. After the surgery, he told me bluntly that it would be months until I could surf again. He was right, of course, but it was hard to hear the unvarnished truth. By making sure that my recovery was slow and steady, he prevented me from re-injuring myself before the bones had fully healed. I am very grateful that such a skilled and brilliant surgeon was available on such short notice. Thank you, Dr. Ahn! read more

I was referred to Dr. Ahn by my medical group. After discussing options, potential outcomes, Etc., I had surgery on my knee. Dr Ahn and most of his staff his have been great. In my opinion Dr Ahn is just quiet and not overly talkative. He has never been rude or arrogant. ( as stated in other reviews ) He has always explained procedures to me thoroughly and answers any questions I may have.. I would recommend Dr Ahn to anyone. My only Complaint is that his assistant Steven never returns phone calls or calls with promised information and it's quite frustrating. read more

In 2015 Duke Ahn did my total hip replacement. Afterwards, I felt a significant difference in the length of my legs...8mm to be exact. I asked Dr Ahn why my legs were uneven and he verbally berated me, we got into a screaming match, he told me I was crazy and dropped me as a patient that day. Length discrepancy is a risk with hip replacements but the 8mm difference caused a host of serious issues with my back and feet and the implant itself was incredibly painful. 5 years later as of yesterday, I had to have "another" total hip replacement because the cup on the implant that Duke ahn used on me slipped. In addition I have had 2 surgeons tell me he used such a ridiculously large implant that my legs couldn't be evened out with my second replacement w/o buckling my hip. When someone undergoes this surgery there is a "also" a risk of the cup slipping but an 8mm leg difference and a cup that was hanging loose and painful after 5 years aren't evidence of a great track record to me. Ahn was rude and even called my md to announce he was dropping me after I asked about the length discrepancy. I wouldnt recommend this butcher to my worst enemy and I hope this review saves one other person from going thru the painful hell that I did. read more

Had a torn meniscus in my left knee. They wanted to make a surgery date right away. I opted to call back. Called back SEVERAL times for a surgery date and left message on voicemail. Never got a call back. Never went back! Per another surgeon was told the surgery Dr Ahn suggested could not be done. read more

I had rotator cuff surgery, 5 tears....start to finish was very informative, professional and educational. Once I got out surgery and started pt, they all praised the surgeon bc I had 80% range when I should have had only 10-12%, today my fixed shoulder feels better then my good shoulder. If you are looking for a orthopedic doctor/surgeon with a decent amount of bedside manners..Dr. Ahn is not. I would suggest the other doctors there. He gives minimal amount of information and it seems like you need to extract information from him. He doesn't seem upfront and basically makes you feel inferior as a patient. From my experiences with various doctors in my life, he has been the worst. I'm sure other patients who have dealt with him would agree. read more

Dr. Ahn has no patient care skills I definitely believe he needs to take a class of how to talk to patients and address all their questions, i took my dad to see Dr.Ahn i had alot of questions regarding my dad knees he made me feel not interested in answering any of my questions and he was getting bored, seriously we felt uncomfortable he was rushing us and didn't bother to explain procedures for my dad knee surgery it was a mistake to go to his office regardless how good of a doctor he is there is no need to treat people as if they are less than him, i would not recommend him to my worst enemy, save the hassle and find another doctor that appreciate his patients, btw his assistant the guy is worse than the doctor either he is trained to act like dr. Had both painful, arthritic hips replaced three years apart, and I couldn't be more grateful to Dr. Ahn's expertise, excellent care and professionalism. His orthopedic surgeon skills are flawless. Last surgery was almost 9 weeks ago, and I'm doing great! No more pain! I can sleep, walk and feel integrated into society. When severe pain controls your whole life 24/7 , the stress level affects it "all". All pre-op procedures like X Rays, medical visits, required information, instructions etc. were completed with great expertise and gentle care. I was very nervous, and vulnerable at the time, Steven was very reassuring and helpful with both surgeries. I could never, ever, thank him enough! Post op care, staple removal, checking surgery site and all rehabilitation and physical therapy have been successful. At the office I'm always treated as a human being, with dignity and respect. The staff is caring, prompt and very empathetic. Appointments, waiting time, and overall running of the office is super efficient. In my experience with 30 years of RA, multiple surgeries, I can honestly share with you Yelp readers, people in search of excellent medical care, that Dr. Ahn is a wonderful doctor, a man with a heart of gold and the surgeon hands of an angel. I went to Dr. Anh with a cracked wrist bone. He had a cast put on my arm and said how lucky I was not to need surgery. When I went back 10 days later to get the permanent cast put on he said he was concerned about the separation of the bones and then walked out of the office. When I came back 6-1/2 weeks later to have my cast removed, he found that my ulna bone drifted outward and basically my arm is worse then my original injury. It's deformed. He got upset with me, said my bone was "morphing", rambled on about how he would only perform surgery if he "had a gun held to my head". He is a walking nightmare. He is angry, ignorant and the worst doctor I have ever had. He doesn't care about you and he shouldn't be practicing. read more

My mom is a patient of Dr. Ahn's and has had a great experience with him, as well as his office. Dr. Ahn performed 2 hip replacements as her orthopedic surgeon and the results have been amazing. Her most recent surgery was this past January and I am so grateful to Dr. Ahn for giving my mom her life and liberty back. Before both surgeries she was in a lot of pain and very restricted in her mobility. As a daughter, one of the most terrible experiences in the world is seeing your mother suffer and struggle. I had been in pain for almost a year with unknown to me a broken hip. Yup, I am one of those who wait until I can't take the pain anymore before I head to the doctor. After an MRI, I was referred to Dr. Ahn by my primary care physician. Dr. Ahn and his staff were wonderful to work with through out the whole process. Dr. Ahn spoke with me regarding my broken hip and all my options then he answered all my questions thoroughly in terms I could understand so, I could make a decision that, I was comfortable with. I had a total left hip replacement on December 3rd 2018. The day of surgery I met the whole surgical team before entering the OR everyone including Dr. Ahn were so comforting, everyone from the team introduced themselves, explained their part with the surgery then, answered any questions I had. The next morning Dr. Ahn checked on me and asked if I had any concerns. Might I say I'm no fan of hospitals but to be truthful I had a great experience.
