I think Dr. Shabeeb is misunderstood by many of his patients. He is very direct and will not allow you to talk until he's done with his review and procedure. He bent me over the exam table and did something back there, which was quite painfull but passed immediately. I believe he's a great doctor. He may not explain all he does, but he does it correctly. The only reason I gave him 4-Stars is because I have yet to have him work on me surgically. I find him to be a very pleasant doctor! read more

I have never written a Yelp review before, but felt compelled to do so after how bad my experience was. I went to doctor Shbeeb for chronic anal fissures. I have had these issue for years, and they will periodically flare up and cause intense pain and discomfort. I had to book my appointment 4.5 weeks ahead of time (not the doctor's fault, but meant that I was in pain for a month before I got there). At the office I waited for 30 minutes without any explanation or comment from the staff. Once I saw the doctor, he gave me an incredibly uncomfortable exam. I have had multiple exams before and they always involve the patient lying on their side so the doctor can exam their rectum. Dr Shbeeb instead used a table that you had to get onto on your hands and knees, that was then inverted keeping you at a 45° downward angle. This was disorienting to say the least. Then he proceeded to give me the most painful exam I've ever had, going much deeper than any doctor I've had before, and using a very large probe device. If you have had hemorrhoids or anal fissures you can imagine how painful this was. After that we went into his office where he told me, without making much eye contact, that I had an anal fissure. Which I already knew, not to mention that I actually have multiple. He only mentioned the hemorrhoids I have after I said I already knew I had several. I tried to explain my history of this condition, what I've tried, what previous doctors told me, and the results of a previous colonoscopy. He was not interested in any of this and interrupted me several times. The only question he asked was the name of my previous doctor. He told me to drink water, eat fruit, do a sitz bath, and use preparation H. All of which I've previously tried and have not worked well, which is why I was in his office in the first place. I prompted him about a procedure I had heard of from a previous doctor, and he said that was a possibility, and was a minimal, outpatient procedure. When I shared my concerns about side effects, mentioned by a previous doctor, he dismissed them said they weren't common. I asked if it could be pin worms and he said "who told you you have that" when I responded "nobody, I read about it online", he said "online? You don't have that". He was glib and dismissive the whole time and eventually said "do what you're doing or get surgery, it up to you, good bye" and looked down at his desk. My experience start to finish was uncomfortable, disrespectful, and frustrating, I would recommend others avoid Dr. Shbeeb. read more

Dr Shabib saved my husbands life. Our lives had become a nightmare w/diverticulitus, 50 er visits in 3 yrs. Insur co assigned him a terrible dr, & when the nurses caught wind of who he was assinged to we were warned by 3 different hospital emp to fire this dr and hire someone else. They all recommended Dr Shabib. So thats what we did, not easy to go out of network, but insur co relented and Dr Shabib performed surgery that was far more complicated than cat scans showed. He was in hospital for 2 wks & then got to go home, alot happier and healthier than before. Dr Shabib is an Angel who was not only a wondereful MD, but was so kind and nice to us also. read more

My first impression of Dr. Shbeeb was not great. I thought he was distant, a little gruff. But I've been in his care for a number of months now, following a really painful recovery from surgery, and I feel strongly that this man cares. My last couple of trips to his office were as a result of me overreacting. He listen, helped and made really useful suggestions. Always patient and thoughtful. Nancy, the practice's surgical nurse, is outstanding. I feel like we became friends through this experience. She called back every time I rang in with a question following surgery and always gave solid advice and wisdom, even though I was probably the 15th patient to call for her that day. To sum it up: I think the negative posts are valid, but only in response to an initial reaction. He's not a teddy bear but the man knows his stuff and genuinely cares about you. Dr. Shbeeb is regarded as the best colo-rectal surgeon around, and this may be true, but I found his bedside manner to be quite lacking. In fact he was rude to me and he hurt me. He did help me by draining an anal abcess, but it was a very unpleasant experience. When I came for a follow up, he was very curt and rather disrespectful. I am now going to see another specialist in Long Beach. His nurse Nancy is very nice, I don't know how or why she is working with this doctor. I feel it important to review here because I've read some of the negative ones and want to share my view. This was a horrible visit for me to have to do (personally) I put it off and was super nervous. I came here as a second opinion as it is. My first impression was great of this practice, the staff was courteous and my wait was minimal. The doctor brought me into his office to meet and discuss my history and reasons for the visit like a caring individual without awkwardness of being undressed. His nurse then placed me in an exam room and was present the entire time. Dr. S did a much better exam than the other place I went to before. Was respectful and explained everything throughout the exam. When done, we returned to his office to discuss his examination and gave very knowledgeable and helpful recommendations to follow to my next visit. He put me at ease, was reassuring and patient in discussing my case.I feel like he listened to me! I only lack that final star in review because I had to be rescheduled for my next appointment and I happened to call in to ask a question in preparation to be told they were going to call me to reschedule but didn't have my number. ??? I filled out a new patient form so that was odd and disorganized of staff but I truly would recommend this doctor to any friend or family. read more

I have visited Dr Shbeeb off and on for a number of years now. One thing has always stood out to me is that he's a nice man. Sure, lots of people are nice. But Dr. Shbeeb specializes in medicine many folks are hesitant to seek out. I can tell you that Dr Shbeeb treats his patients with the utmost courtesy, care and compassion that I believe I've ever seen from a physician. His staff have always been exceedingly nice to me. But I'm extroverted and friendly and tend to receive back that which I put forth. Living with a chronic illness and growing up around the same I've spent a lot of time around doctors, hospitals and so forth and while it's important to advocate for yourself and have expectations of one's doctors and their staff, they're real people with the same real problems everyone else has. If a behavior is a pattern, then you can address it. It drives me a bit bananas actually the way people rarely/never post a single positive, helpful review here on the Yelp community but get all up in arms and get on here to lament the terrible service they received when their coffee was 5 degrees below their favorite temperature. To address the woman complaining about unethical billing practices. I'm sorry, but you don't know what you are talking about. It was your mistake choosing a physician that your insurance designates as a specialist (because he is a specialist - Colorectal Surgical Associates - the name's all over the place on everything, duh). It's not their fault you don't understand the way insurance works. Dr Shbeeb is what is commonly called an Internist which means he has extra training and is knowledgeable to treat patients for a variety of ailments. This fits with his specialized practice as a Proctologist as he has to look at the cause and treatment options from a variety of angles. I've been around chronic illness for over 40 years and understand all of this very well. You are 100% wrong and owe the doctor an apology. You really should take down your review. read more

I had good reason to seek a second opinion from this very competent & honest MD. After all was good to go, I'd made amends with the office manager of the first surgeon & the MD over bad feelings from over 3 years ago, removed my 2 Star review and posted a 5 Star review & a 5 Star update, the prep work had begun, the Rx's were about to be filled, I was about to preregister for the procedure which would have been tomorrow. Then, I received a call on December 2nd telling me that the procedure had been cancelled due to a special meeting that was held determining that there was a breach of trust (as the letter I received too stated) stating that because I was so unhappy from the last time-they refused to do the surgery. Now a procedure for what? Well, on the advice of the AMA, I am not allowed to mention the MD's name until the issues regarding this are resolved; some may remember the MD's name from the reviews & updates, some may not or, never did. Also, I must omit certain details but, may mention others. So very eloquently let me tell you what went down when I saw Dr. Shbeeb: I saw this MD on the referral from my Primary MD since the above had taken place, and I came to see him because I was told that just as in May of 2011, the lesions (now 4 of them had returned), needed to be removed ASAP and were at a point of concern; something you can get from smoking cigarettes is all I may say. He proceeded to do the rectal & anal exam and then, a sigmoidoscopy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigmoidoscopy which upon completion, Dr. Shbeeb told me, "Michael, other than a few hemorrhoids, I see nothing, nothing, that would require me to perform a surgery or any other course of treatment that you are on currently and, that you must now stop because it is not necessary." Also, looking over the surgical report from May, 2011, he had a puzzled look on his face and asked me, "So why did you have this done?" "This doesn't make sense to me, just as much as to why you were told the other information which I cannot find any evidence of what so ever." So I told him, in detail and yet Dr. Shbeeb could find nothing conclusive in the report and was very baffled as to the language in the description of the procedure; he did see that some lesions were removed, asked me did they scrape, cut, just why & what repeatedly; truly his look was one of baffled & concerned. Look, I don't have what I was told I had, there are no lesions or tumors, I don't have to continue (nor never did) the course of treatment for what I was told I had nor do I have to do what you get exposed to in an X-Ray after the first of the year either. I know many were praying for me, doing visual healing in their thoughts and thinking of me daily with positive energy sent my way; did this have something to do with it? I don't know, why was the procedure was cancelled all of a sudden, and for that reason; did someone misdiagnose me, I will leave that up to the AMA. I will say this, my love, appreciation, admiration and thanks go out to ALL of you here on Yelp, friends, fans or not; your messages of comfort were so helpful, especially to my Mom & Marty, who BOTH were literally emotional wrecks because of this. My Dad's Pulmonary Fibrosis was missed by the radiologist & his Primary MD in 2009 and only found when he went to a new MD for a chest cold that would not go away, that MD reviewed the reports, saw the disease, but it was too late, his chest x-ray had his lungs looking like a honeycomb in a beehive by then; even after the bronchoscopy & biopsy, it was too late; how my Dad suffered and to watch him die due to medical negligence for the last 3 months of his life before he did die in January of 2011 is still painful, yet he chose not to pursue legal action. Do you see the role reversal here, it is very similar but, because of my medical credentials & background, I was able to get into action and seek a second opinion when my dad did not, had he done so, he'd still be here today. And guys, (just like the ladies) get a rectal smear, especially if you are over 50 or suspect something and get a second opinion always. So, I give thanks to you Dr. Shbeeb, many thanks for finding the truth and. preventing me from having to go through any unnecessary procedures or treatments. The doctor and receptionist are so rude and irresponsible, one time I tried to get connected to doctors nurse but no matter how hard i was trying to convince the receptionist to let me talk to nurse to be informed where is my surgery going to be performed, she didn't let me talk or even try to gather information from her database to let me know! Also i had been visited by another surgeon for same concern a month before doing the same procedure, but i was charged twice the amount almost 300$! Again i was visited week before surgery that i believed it was useless since he just took my pulse and listened to my lounge and gave me a copied paper about instructions that could be emailed to me! At the day of surgery despite i gave my wife's info who was standing outside of surgery center to be informed about how the surgery was gone the doctor left and never contact me until i finally found him 5 days after, i had explained my concerns including pains on my jaws both side and throat , and main concern that was covid 19 symptoms , really painful body pain, throat pain and redness and infection, despite i was using strong ibuprofen 600mg and Oxycodone acetaminophen 10-325 mg, and he said it is not my concern and not related to my surgery! He blowed me off and said call your primary doctor or go to emergency room!!! I can not judge the surgery performance skill but i suffered a lot emotionally. I needed a checkup on short notice for a medical issue, so I searched for doctors through my insurance provider's website. I contacted a few, and none could see me same day except for Dr. Shbeeb at Los Alamitos Colorectal Surgical Assoc. I went in for a basic office visit, nothing special. He performed a decent exam and gave me what sounded like good advice, and then told me he wanted to schedule a follow up visit. While scheduling my next appointment, I told his office staff that I had a $40 copay for doctor's office visits. I was told not to worry about it, that they would just bill me. Ok. Fine. I had two more simple office visits over the next three weeks, and never actually had any procedure performed. Then the bill came for $450...my cost after my insurance had paid. When I contacted my insurance company, I was told that the bills for my three visits were between $370 and $465 per visit, and my copay was $150 per visit because it was billed as treatment from a specialty surgical group. I explained that I only had very routine "office visit" style appointments, but that apparently didn't matter. I feel it was highly unethical for this doctor, and his office, to withhold information on how I would be billed for these visits, especially when I was clearly seeking routine doctor's care and not "surgical level" care. They should have done one of two things, in my opinion: a) Disclosed their billing information up front, especially since I indicated I should have a $40 copay (a copay customary for a "regular" doctor's visit). b) Referred me to another doctor in this field who handles patients who only require routine checkups. Clearly I didn't need surgical level care. Instead, they just scheduled follow up visits at $150 a pop. They worked the system...I'm not impressed. read more

First I am giving this place a high score because of professionalism, cleanliness, ambiance/comfort of office and Dr Shbeeb's mad skills. Basically it's not a pretty topic to talk about, so without knowing my obvious details I can tell you my experience in the office. When I came into their lobby, their staff was welcoming and organized. Patients are in and out very quickly. When I went to treatment room, the most important thing for me was that there is a nurse "Nancy" who's beautiful and absolutely professional. She literally makes you feel safe just by being there. And then Dr Shbeeb explains everything quickly but is patient to answer any questions and makes sure you're well informed with paper to take home with you so in case you're overwhelmed with all the information, Nurse Nancy is also present during the office discussion making a list for you. Their team work dynamic really makes the overall experience peaceful, balanced, and less scary or traumatic if you've got an over active imagination like myself. Literally I dreamt of horror but experienced as pleasant as unimaginably possible coming here. It's a great place. And the review about saving someone's moms life really made me want to check it out for myself. And Ofcourse the resolution to the pain is a big factor. Dr. Shbeeb can solve your problems (most likely) and he's got decades in the field so he knows your goods better than you. You might as well trust him. read more

This office does not even deserve a one star. Dr. Was okay, was not really tentative to patients questions. The worse is office staff. The office manager Debbie was so unprofessional. In mid conversation, as she gets attitude with me she hangs up. I call back and she let's another person pick up the phone. I asked to speak to the office manager? She gets on the line and doesn't even listen and hangs up. Call back again she picks up and just hangs up and doesn't even say anything. I will be going down to talk to the Dr., her superior. No matter how good the doctor is. With staff like that he will lose a lot of patients. Your in the business of helping people and if you don't like what you do quit. Its a shame that we have people that miserable and rude. Dr. Shabeeb (Shbeeb) has the worst bed side manner I've ever experienced in my life. This type of medicine is very uncomfortable and sensitive, and he was not gentle and gave no warnings. I felt like a slab of meat being shoved around on a table. I would have added a second star to this review because the office staff and nurse were very nice, but I gave it a one star so people might heed this warning. He didn't listen to me or read my chart. He told me it couldn't be what other doctors said. I wanted to believe his expertise but then he didn't give any explanation for what was going on. I almost cancelled the second appointment where the treatment would start, but I was afraid my insurance would not cover a second consult. At the second appointment he decided not to do anything because there weren't symptoms. Seriously? If he even requested the records from my doctor of 10 years from a different city he'd see it has been going on sporadically for years. Of course there may not be symptoms this very moment but I wanted to finally take care of it for good. He didn't listen to what I said and didn't even address all of the things I told the Medical Assistant at the beginning. When I tried to ask him questions at the end of each appointment just to understand he seemed impatient and put out and wanted to get on his phone. To take notes? Who knows. Dr Shbeeb.... there are no words for what this man has done for my family and I. After visiting 4 or 5 doctors a few years back my mother was both frustrated and in increasing pain/discomfort. I am not exaggerating when I say she was totally written off by primary physicians, an OBGYN, and at least two other Gastro doctors (one doctor even told her the remedy to her symptoms was a special cream costing hundreds of dollars that of course he made/created himself!). Unsatisfied and unconvinced, my mom kept looking for the doctor that would actually LISTEN and HELP. That's when we found Dr Shbeeb. It took one visit - ONE- for him to immediately recognize the severity of the situation. My mom was not wrong, her body was telling her something was not right and I thank God every day she listened and found for this wonderful man. In brief, Dr. Shbeeb saved our mother's life. My mother is 92 years old and has been suffering from a severe gastrointestinal problem. She recently went to UCLA Medical Center, which is nearer her home to see a specialist and was told that she was too sick and frail to undergo surgery and would have to live (and die) with her problem. After searching for another opinion, my mother visited Dr. Shbeeb. He was caring, and in simple terms explained that he could perform a much simpler procedure with confidence of good outcome. This procedure was not offered at the University Medical Center; we were told it was not possible to do what Dr. Shbeeb was recommending because of my mother's age and other medical problems. The following week my mother underwent surgery with Dr. Shbeeb. The procedure took about an hour, and she was discharged the next day. She has done fantastic and recovered 100%. She is thrilled and thankful to have found Dr. Shbeeb . She is back up and running, as much as any 92 year old mother could do.... Our family is also so thankful for Dr. Shbeeb's expertise and care. I have read through past negative reviews for Dr. Shbeeb. We couldn't disagree more: Dr. Shbeeb only deserves 5 stars! He is one of the most caring and competent doctors around. While the doctor himself is very good and has much experience in his field, do not trust his office staff. On a recent visit I was told on the way out that my medicare had not paid $200 of my bill, leaving me to believe I was going to get a bill for said expense. I told the girl that I would take care of it right now. Since I did not have my check book with me I gave her $200 cash. Now here is where it gets crazy. She immediately takes the money and puts it away, does not and will not give me a receipt. I make several calls later to the office to have a receipt mailed to me and as of today I still have not received a receipt to show for the money paid during my visit. She has stollen my money and put it in her pocket and now I believe the $200 she was referring to was the portion being relieved between them and the insurance company that I did not have to pay. The girls working in the front office are nothing less than common thieves that will take advantage of anyone they can if it will help them in any way, as they all watched it happen. If this does not get resolved soon I will be making a formal report to the AMA as a good doctor is only as good as the people that represent him and make him comfortable with the public he serves. read more

Dr Shbeeb performed colonoscopy and found bad section within the colon that must be removed by surgery. Dr. Shabeeb explained the surgery procedure and informed me of what to expect at and after surgery. He made me feel at ease and performed the surgery successfully. Dr. Shabeeb is well known at the Memorial long beach hospital and every one knew him spoke highly about him. my recovery was smooth with no complications and I am cancer free after surgery. I do appreciate the care and services preformed by Dr Shabeeb and his office staff. I defiantly recommend Dr. Shabeeb to others and I thank him for all care given to me. I had a very poor experience with dr. shbeeb. his manner is terse and his office staff is rude and uncooperative. this guy did a horrible operation on me and after 3 weeks had me come in for a "post op". at this post op he never looked at my wound or physically touched me or ask how I was recovering, it was only to give me the biopsy result which usually is done over the phone. I wouldn't recommend anyone to allow this man to touch them. I will need to have corrective surgery to clean up his mess. read more

This is challenging to write. I'm going to break it down. 1. Dr. Shbeeb is polite, fantastic bed side manners, caring and has a fine amount of knowledge. 2. His nurse is polite, available to take or return calls, and knowledgeable of the care and after care. 3. The receptionist, Deserie, dealing with billing issues wanted to pawn the billing off to their external billing. When explaining to Deserie that I wanted Dr. Shbeeb to know what was taking place, it took me three times to request before she advised me she will let Dr. Shbeeb know of the issue. 4. (Also posted to Yelp under company Medx) BEWARE! I paid my medical bill, then got billed again. It took two of us to figure out the billing. The Medx representative said let me review your bill, then said this is your bill. I paid my bill in full. Then I got another bill and called Medx, they transferred me to voice mail. I called the doctors office and they got through in minutes, called me back and told me Medx maid a billing error. First sign of a company doing bad business is when they don't use their company name when answering the phone. Second sign of bad business is when the billing company does not have their name, address or phone number anywhere on the billing. Makes me wonder how many people are getting wrongly billed again and paying the bill. Also how many senior patients are getting wrongly billed and paying. Dr. Shbeeb, please change billing companies. Medx billing is confusing and appears unforthcoming with information. OMG! A representative from Medx called me back and misrepresented herself saying, "I am with Los Alamitos Colorectal Surgerical". I immediately corrected her and told her she was misrepresenting herself as she is with Medx. She tried to correct herself and I told her again she was misrepresenting herself. read more

Excellent Experience. Excellent Doctor. I was on vacation with my family in the Southern California area. I was having severe pain from an external hemorrhoid. I honestly didn't think I could make it back to the east coast on a 5 hour flight. I found Dr.Imad Shbeeb and I was very fortunate I did. When I first called, Debi the office manager explained they were booked solid. I explained my situation and she was able to squeeze me in that day. The whole staff Lorena, Nancy, and Dez were very professional. Dr. Shbeeb examined me and explained the situation and what he was going to do. I had some discomfort at first but in the end it was all worth it. My pain was excruciating when I walked in, I could barely sit. By the time he was done my pain was completely gone. I couldn't believe it. Afterwards, I was very impressed Dr. Shbeeb had me sit in his office and explained everything from the post op care to proper diet to avoid having this happen again.
