We were referred to Dr. Dezfoli by our GP. My sister had severe anemia and we needed to find out why. Dr. Dezfoli performed an endoscopy and found that she had an ulceration in her esophagus and severe damage due to acid reflux. He also noticed two lumps in the lining of the stomach. She needed a specialized endoscopy with ultrasound. He was able to refer us to a top notch gastroenterologist at Cedar Sinai and with his connections to the hospital we were able to get an appointment within 2 weeks. Awful place and service. They lie. "We called you". No they did not. Cancelled appointments due to "family issues", and promised to fit me in afterwards, and after labs, they never did. No call back with lab results. Need a preauthorization for a prescription, that's an additional $30; you're a healthcare provider, it's part of your job to obtain preauthorizations. Call from the office? Well, that's apparently considered an office visit, and you'll be billed for a co-pay. Do they tell you this? NOPE! Just a bill from insurance. Long are the days of Dr.'s actually wanting to actually help patients. No, this place is a sham. They want you to use their "Prescription Center". My 77 year old father did not have a great experience. They made him wait much longer than planned for a colonoscopy. This is especially tough because he is elderly and could not eat or drink anything the day of the procedure, and started fasting around 2 PM the day before. It seems ridiculous that patients need to give a one week notice to cancel but it's permissible to have patients waiting hours past their scheduled appointment time. He was told to arrive at 12:30 PM, he was supposed to be seen at 2:30 PM, but the actual procedure didn't start until 4 PM. I contacted the office and spoke with the doctor and hospital staff to understand what went wrong and give them a chance to explain themselves. It was a insufficient apology and finger pointing. My family and I are not happy with how my dad was treated and not very satisfied with the explanation given. Regardless of how busy they are, there needs to be a better system so that elderly folks are not fasting any longer than they should, sitting alone in a room for hours waiting to be seen. I understand that things happen, and they are medical professionals that save lives, which we are grateful for, but I really do think there needs to be some adjustments to allow for some flexibility in the schedule that's not at the expense of other patients. read more

I recently called the office of Dr Dezfoli as i had a missed appointment due to getting covid and was charged 50$ for missing the appointment. The office asked me for a covid test result and i mentioned i didn't have due to it being just a quick test and i had thrown that away. Within a month or two i was sent to collections by them for 50$. Just know if you get sick or miss your appointment this is how it will go. While i understand you have to keep your rules doesn't make it sting any less when your sick and you miss something and there is no understanding even after i called. First, I could NOT get a hold of anyone in this office. No phone number, only emails, impossible. Day of: I am on the table and they are hooking me up and stuff in my mouth and I am trying to say please slow down I am freaking out but no one was paying attention because it seriously was like 'just another one of these' and I started CRYING. I don't cry. and no one noticed and I vividly remember Dr Dezfoli with his back to me sitting in a chair on his phone talking about renting office space! I NEVER saw him. He never came over to me while I was on the table. Never saw him after. And when I came to, afterwards, they had a person who did not speak English well....fine! I'm fine with that BUT...not when he tells me they removed polyps and I asked if that's cancer and he said yes but your doctor will talk to you about it-and I couldn't get any reassurance etc..... If there was an option to leave zero stars, I would I initially found Dr. Dezfoli via a Yelp! search only to find out he's no longer located in Los Angeles & his office is now in Long Beach. I've been having consistent nausea & vomiting (specifically at night) that I've been having a hard time diagnosing. I made an appointment with Dr. Dezfoli a few weeks ago only to be BOMBARDED with phone calls the morning of my appointment with staff panicking to get copies of an endoscopy report I did back in December (w/ a different doctor before I moved) that had already been mailed to their office & then needing to move my appointment time to an earlier slot day of. After briefly speaking with Dr. Dezfoli, he put me on Dexilant & suggested an upper GI series with Dr. Richard Sukov where a report showed I had something called hiatal hernia. I assumed Dr. Dezfoli would call me back to explain my results, but after I hadn't heard anything, I called his office (multiple times) and eventually got ahold of the receptionist who excused the lack of follow-up by telling me the previous receptionist I spoke to is no longer with the office. I thought sharing this information was unprofessional & unhelpful as I didn't care why, I just wanted to speak with the doctor. The receptionist (I believe, Maria?) called me back shortly after that interaction to "go over my results" in which is told me I'd need another endoscopy, or to see an "ENE." I was confused why she was suggesting another endoscopy as I had just done that in December & not much had changed since then and her response was, "because your systems aren't going away." I asked her to clarify what "ENE" meant and she said I needed to see an ear, nose & throat doctor, but she didn't have a referral to one. When I asked her why she was going over my results instead of the doctor, she told me it was because if I wanted to talk to Dr. Dezfoli, I needed to make an appointment with him. I guess my 4 attempts calling their office previously didn't suggest I wanted to talk to the doctor?! I expressed how disappointed & unprofessional I felt their office was being & this really seemed like a scam to bill my insurance and force me to do invasive procedures for absolutely no reason and no intention in actually following-up with me once those procedures were done. Maria ended our interaction with screaming to talk over me when I proceeded to ask more questions and eventually hung up on me. I'll be looking to file a formal complaint with this office and their practices. I think my experience speaks for itself, but just in case it doesn't -- AVOID! read more

I went to Dr Dezfoli after feeling like my GI concerns had been dismissed by other GI doctors. My first interaction with Dr Dezfoli was on a video call due to COVID. He was very professional and seemed genuinely interested in helping we sort out my concerns. He listened, he asked questions then proceeded explaining the possible diagnosis. The key word here is "explaining". Dr. Dezfoli always explains in simple terms what could be the issue. We work on a plan together with clear steps. He's also very creative in his approach. He performed a sigmoidoscopy on me that went really well and he was later instrumental in diagnosing some intestinal issues that I had been having for YEARS! I'm now about to receive treatment after years of getting no answered and feeling like I wasn't heard by other doctors. Worst experience ever! I set up an appointment for January. I then became very ill and tried calling and texting to reschedule. I could never get anyone on the phone. 7 months later I get a bill of $150 for a "same day cancellation". They do have a 2 week cancellation policy, which I knew about. This is why I started calling as soon as I knew I was not going to able to make the appointment. I even called the surgery center to let them know I was not going to make my appointment, and they said they would try and get a hold of the doctor. Once I got the bill, I reached out to the billing office and requested the bill be deleted, and explained the situation. Their response was that the dr. office said they had no record of me calling/texting. I then sent them copies of my phone bills showing my many attempts to reach someone at the office. I have not heard back and just got another bill stating that it's overdue by 30 days! I have filed a complaint with my health insurance and well as The Board of Managed Care. As mentioned above, my initial plan was to reschedule, but after all of this I obviously won't be going to this doctor. This has been very labor intensive and feels like a scam. Why have a cancellation policy if you don't answer the phone?!? read more

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Seper Dezfoli today at Kaiser where he works once a week. It was, for me, an emergency appointment because of what I was experiencing. I was nervous and within just a couple of minutes after telling him what was going on, he cracked a few jokes and broke the tension. It wasn't that he didn't take me seriously, but rather he wanted to ease my stress and bring down my tension. It worked!! He was very attentive and explained each step of the easy non-painful examination so I would know what to expect. And afterwards he made me laugh again and also assured me that with some medication, I would be back to usual. He is incredibly professional, caring, super funny and patient. I don't know how this wonderful doctor can stay so organized and give such excellent, undivided attention to his patients. My problems feel so complicated and I've been feeling horrible for months but every moment of my experience in Dr. Dezfoli's office has been reassuring. He thoroughly reviewed my GI results, as well as results from another member of my healthcare team who he works with, he even contacted my primary care doc and I feel like I am being cared for by all of them as if I'm on a freaking TV show where everyone cares about patients!
