I heard great things about Ray P Kamali so I took my mother to him to have her cyst removed. We meet Ray Kamali, he seemed great. My mother was in extraordinary pain. He recommended that she stays away from opioids. Which I agree - opioids are addicting but my mother was in pain. I informed him that my mother has no history of abusing drugs or alcohol. Long story short my mother did the procedure with KAMALI at Sharp Chula Vista hospital. The hospital treatment was a whole different story. My mother was mistreated at the hospital multiple times and I got proof. Anyways After the procedure he informed me that it went great with no complications. When I saw my mother after 15 mins she informed me that she woke up during procedure. He failed to inform me that my mother woke up twice during anesthesia. He also failed to formally apologize to my mother and after the procedure his whole attitude shifted. Then I spoke to him and he told me to educate my mother to stay away from opioids (oxycodone) I informed him my mother is in pain and she needs it and he said it can cause her harm and can be addicted to them. I then told him that her urine, blood or a website that providers has access to shows that my mother has never abused alcohol or drugs. She's clean as whistle. 1. He was willing to discharge my mother even though she wasn't able to keep liquid food down. 2. He did not inform me that my mother needs to pass gas. (aware of it cause I'm in medical field) 3. Her IV was off multiple times (they didn't even care about dehydration) 4. He did not prescribe my mother her TSH medication. Hospital was aware that she should've been prescribed TSH medication. 5. When complaining to Dr.Kamali about how the nurses are mistreating my mother he got irritated and told me has no control of the nurses and I need to let the manger know. I said I did but I just wanted to inform you and he completely lost it. He stated "if your mother was treated horribly by the nurses then she can go home so she doesn't have to go through this experience." Then I said "if I was you I would refrain from saying that because we as patients and as humans come to the hospital to be properly diagnosed, taken care of and treated properly. Please Dr.Kamali don't speak to us that way" He then became sarcastic and stated "I have patients that I discharged within two hours after doing hysterectomy. with my 17 year experience I guess you know more than I do. I will prescribe all the narcotics that you guys want and she can stay in the hospital for 17 days" - He and the nurses failed to inform my mother that that oxycodone is as needed. They told us it's every 3 hours and there were gaps. I promise you my mother went through pain and they held back on giving her medication. I filed a complaint so then they switched their narrative and said that oxycodone is as needed but it was not put that way on the board. I promise you they told me it's every 3 hours - they failed to give it every 3 hours and switched the whole narrative about it being as needed. ( informing patients about medication and how it's suppose to be given is important. Kamali and nurses failed to inform us properly) 6. He FAILED to check my mothers incisions. He had a RN check her incisions. I was in shock and speechless. A RN has no experience how the MD does. A MD should do their job and not have a 4 year experience nurse do that for them. No disrespect to nurses. I feel more comfortable if a provider checks not a RN. But then again that way he makes more money and so does the hospital. He just goes on to the next patient. 7. The following day he just came to visit my mother and he did not say good morning or anything. My mother asked him if she will be discharged and he stated "ask your daughter if it's okay to be discharged" and he walked away. Even the nurse that was there was in shock. Provider failed to take care of my mother. He failed multiple times. I had to advocate for my mother multiple times. If I wasn't advocating then I don't know what would've happened to my mother. Opioids are there for people that actually need the medication. Especially after a procedure. If not then I wonder why DEA still has opioids approved to be prescribed. I brought my mother to him to be taken care of and I ended up traumatizing her. Kamali and Sharp Chula Vista really mistreated us. I have proof. I despise calling him a provider, although I am grateful he took out the cyst but he needs to work on his communication, patient care, and needs to lose his pride. Probably one of the worst places to go for an obgyn , steer clear from the nurse practitioner if you want to avoid being subjected to unnecessarily rough examinations. Also anytime she prescribed something she would call me after and say stop taking what I prescribed... it causes blood clots or liver damage or this or that ... this happened three times... Like why prescribe something when your not sure ?? I find that ridiculous! The front desk staff is delightful and kind ... I love the front staff but Cynthia the nurse practitioner no... she also wanted to do a biopsy with no pain relief. That is just barbaric... I HAD to write this review! Initially, I was hesitant going to Dr Kamali due to the past reviews on here. Upon arrival, the office is very clean and welcoming. The front office staff were very kind. (I was late due to traffic). Next came the taking my vitals. They do this out in the open of the back office, which was not a problem for me. I was able to see how the back office works together as a team. I could see Dr. Kamali when he came out of a room. He said hello. :) Then she took me into a room and my wait was not long at all. He came into the room and it was very comfortable talking with him. Even in just my gown! Ha. Upon looking through my chart, he found an old exam that the diagnosis was missed by my primary. Note to ladies... see a specialist for your lady parts. Do not go through your primary. Dr. Kamali spent lot of time talking with me about my history and what my needs were for this visit. We decided together what would be the best plan of action. So hands-down, this guy gets all the stars that yelp can give, but trust me when I say if there were more, he would have all of them in my opinion!!! read more

Office is clean and front office staff is fine. However nurse practitioners lack in knowledge. I went in for an IUD. I scheduled a consultation as recommended to understand my options. After that I scheduled an appointment for IUD insertion only to find out I got misinformation from the initial nurse practitioner and they would not insert the IUD. Total waste of time. I'm extremely disappointed with this office as several people have recommended this office. Also I never even met the doctor so maybe he is amazing but I'll never get the opportunity. Front desk lady rude unprofessional made you feel like you were doing her a favor for being there. My teenager had to come in for health issues looking and judgement awful treatment by front staff. The doctor was nice and knowledgeable but the front staff makes me not want to come back. And reading other review as I see it's not the first time needs to be addressed this is not okay. My daughter was scared to go and didn't need this additional stressor. My daughter would ask a question and she said "you should know what that is" rolling her eyes. Very good experience having him as my obgyn during pregnancy. He is a very nice and caring doctor.

I initially scheduled for a procedure consultation, in which I had an appointment with the NP who told me she couldn't provide the consult, so I would have to reschedule for Dr Kamali...frustrating considering that was the entire reason I was there. In the same appointment, the NP misdiagnosed me with an entire hormonal disorder based on a single conversation where I was continuously cut off on what I was trying to explain to her. When I asked for further diagnostic information, they told me it was pointless; how can you diagnose someone with a condition and not get the labs or do the research to prove it? Then, at my consult appointment with Dr Kamali, I waited over 1h 30m to finally see the doctor, and was given respect from him personally, but didn't feel as though my preferences and feelings being expressed were the highest priority, or like I was an equal part of my own health decisions. I think I will not continue care through this office, just too many frustrating experiences. read more

Not sure who I talked to on the phone, but as she was answering the phone she was in mid yawn. I wanted to schedule a new patient appointment, and she was very short and rude. Kept yawning and seemed like she didn't want to deal with anyone. She gave me a date and then when I said that would work she said "okay have a nice day." I ended up canceling my appointment and scheduling with another office, and I'm happy I did. Right off from the start I'm not pleased with how I was spoken to on the phone. This was my first time dealing with this office, and it was not a good first representation. I tried to make an appointment yesterday and the office ended up calling me, but never left a voicemail. The front desk lady is so rude . And the entire time I felt like I was annoying them. Besides the first time I made the appointment with the doctor he wasn't there and I had to Reschedule it . I was really disappointed with the care i received here. Overheard and actually caught the nurses gossiping about me on multiple occasions. Always felt judged and never understood why. Always had to wait way too long to hear back from the NP. My appointments consisted of the np coming in, performing an ultrasound and leaving--never asked me about any symptoms, or were very dismissive if I did bring anything up. by 32 weeks I have met the doctor only once, and it didnt seem he had even reviewed my file before seeing me. was misdiagnosed with GDM without anyone ever explaining my test results to me, until i demanded a retest. Then they tried to make it seem like they only sent me to the dietician so they could "monitor" me--which is untrue, they initially said i had GDM and caused a lot of undue stress for me. They pestered me and pestered me about needing to go to the lab to do routine tests, which I had trouble with due to the office being so far from home and us only having one car, then when I finally did get to go they actually admitted to me that they just threw them out. Yes, threw away my lab results. Does not make sense to me and I don't know why they would even openly admit to that! I have finally made the decision to switch dr's right before having my baby and I couldn't be more excited. God forbid anything happens to me or my baby due to this practice's neglect and unprofessionalism. And does Dr. Kamali even ever work more than one hour out of the week?--He is never available and never anywhere to be found. The only reason i actually gave one star is because the women at the front desk are always very nice--sadly the rest of the staff is not even close. I have mixed reviews about this office. I've had a few incidents where information is not properly given to me by Nurse Practitioner. Their NP Cynthia really needs to pay more attention to her patients needs, preferences, and confirm information with doctor before passing it on to patients. It was really frustrating to miss appointments and labs just for not being given the correct information and ultimately made feel bad for not knowing the right information. Overall pregnancy is a very special moment for parents to be, but the staff shows no excitement nor care for your experience. However, Dr. Kamali was great. Unfortunately, in the 7 months I've been going there, I only saw him once at 35 weeks pregnant. He answered questions with ease and great customer service. Sad to say that his staff is not the same as him. This is the main reason I decided to leave the office and find another OBGYN so late in my pregnancy. read more

He may be a decent doctor for a regular woman with no additional medical issues. But if you have any other medical problems.. steer clear of this guy. He was so bull-headed and refused to even look up my genetic condition to see how to could affect the issue I was facing. He told me it was all in my head.. that there's nothing he can do to help me bc I'm too young and basically I need to just lose weight and I'll be magically cured. He was hung up on my fatness. So, another tip-- if you're a fat chick, stay away from this dude.. I have a feeling he focuses all on weight for any of us bigger gals. I saw him for prolapse issues which at the age of 31, I shouldn't be having but due to a connective tissue disorder that causes faulty collagen, I was dealing with my organs falling completely out of my body. He said I was fine.. a lot of women deal with it and that he wouldn't do surgery bc of my age but if I was say 50, he would. At that point the organs had not completely protruded and he said they won't actually fall out bc it takes a while for that process to happen... but again, he had no knowledge of my condition and didn't research it to realize how quickly things can change when your collagen doesn't work like it's suppose to. Fast forward one week and it's completely falling out of my body. He was pissy bc I demanded an appt ASAP bc at that point I was seriously worried. He did the most painful exam (that I don't think was necessary), reiterated there's nothing he can do, lose weight... etc. He argued with me telling me what I was feeling wasn't really there.. that maybe I was just focusing in to it bc it's a new issue. Eventually, I got him to admit he had no clue about my condition and requested to be referred out to UCSD. I saw the most fantastic urogynocologist, Dr. Nader and I am 2 weeks post op. Because the specialist realized what I was dealing with and actually helped me. Steer Clear of this Guy. I wasted money in co-pays and my time trying to seek help from a guy who acted like he knew it all and was only focused on the fact that I'm overweight. read more

So I'm a new patient and I wanted to wait until my procedure to rate him....sooooooo lets go! First impression of office: beautiful, clean, relaxing atmosphere for sure. Front desk staff: really nice and friendly, even called to check on my copay because I forgot my insurance card. Rooms: really pretty and clean, it also smells good in the office. They also have like 3 bathrooms which comes in handy because the day of my ultrasound I was going to explode lol because I drank too much water they were like come on there's another one over here and we ran lol Staff: super friendly, made me feel comfortable, always called to remind me of appointments, always kept me in the loop for everything....always smiling too. You can tell they enjoyed working there. Nothing's worse than when u go to an office and they look like they hate life lol this isn't one of those offices. The doctor: Dr. Kamali is AMAZING! Most doctors I have seen treat u like a number ..in and out in and out next u know the deal...on my first visit I wasn't told to undress and wait for the doc I was told to sit in the chair so Doctor could come in and introduce himself first and get to know more about me and my needs. He was super understanding and you can tell he cares about his patients. Very professional, explains everything well, and chooses a great solution to ur problems. I was scared at first because it was a new doctor and I knew nothing about him I was just referred by my primary. Now I can't picture myself going anywhere else! Your office is great doc! Oh yea, I almost forgot to mention the experience with the ultrasound tech, he was funny and knew what he was doing it was quick I didn't wait long. I'm so grateful to have Dr. Kamali as my obgyn. After 2 nightmare-ish episodes with my previous obgyn, Dr. Kamali was gracious enough to take me in at 36weeks. From our first appointment I felt comfortable with him, he was open to answering all my questions and listening to all of my concerns. He agreed to most of the wishes in my birth plan and was accommodating to my circumstances in which my baby decided she wanted to be 2 weeks late! Dr. Kamali knew that a c-section was the last thing I wanted. Unfortunately that's what happened, but I was able to make peace with it because I knew he exhausted ALL the possibilities to avoid that from happening. We tried to induce a vaginal delivery over the course of 2.5 days in the hospital! I feel that Dr. Kamali was an excellent surgeon in delivering my baby via c-section while also removing an ovarian cyst and keeping my ovary in tact. My last obgyn said she would remove my ovary completely. Apparently that was not necessary. Thank God for Dr. Kamali! Also I feel great! 1 day after the surgery I was able to get up and walk around. 5 days later I pretty much feel like my old self besides minor pain here and there which is managed with pain medication. The scarring is minimal and from what I'm told it will shrink to be even smaller. I couldn't praise and recommend Dr. Kamali enough! He's the best read more

He is highly skilled, knowledgeable, excellent bedside manner, very thorough, I cannot believe anyone would give leas than 5 stars. When I found out I was pregnant I was recommended to an OBGYN and wasn't satisfied with the services I was receiving when I family member recommended me to Dr. Kamali I was skeptical judging the fact that I had just experienced unprofessionalism but I took my chances anyway and right from the start when I went to my first appointment the staff was amazing!!! They answered every question I had, made me feel like I were apart of their family. Elizabeth NP was awesome and the medical staff were on top of everything. I explained that I had complications with preeclampsia and they were monitoring me making me feel comfortable, checking my blood pressure twice. if you're thinking of visiting an OBGYN, you MUST GO TO DR. KAMALI. At a young age he already is a leader in the field of minimally invasive surgery. And what's best, he is extremely personable and gentle mannered. On my first visit, I could rapidly tell that Dr. Kamali uniquely cares about his patients. He took all the time to listen to my every concern and thoroughly answered all my questions. I walked out of his office completely assured. Dr. Kamali performed a robot assisted laparoscopic myomectomy on me to remove a 13 cm fibroid (uterine tumor). I'm telling you he's a true professional! Dr. Kamali took the high road and made sure that the fibroid removal was a clean as possible. This was no easy task due to my petite frame to huge tumor ratio. Dr. Kamali visited me in the hospital post op to make sure everything was ok. I'm only 24 years old, and thanks to Dr. Kamali, I preserved my ability to have children!!! I couldn't have asked for a better outcome or better person to take care of me. My family and I are forever grateful. I love this office! Dr. Kamali is very friendly, caring & kind! His PA Ritta is amazing. She's always going that extra mile to show you she cares. I went to a different obgyn during my last two pregnancies and only wished I had come here like I did this year. They're always fast, know you by name, genuinely care about you and are very helpful. I never had an experience like I did when having my baby girl at Sharp Chula Vista. I had my son there and I will never ever go any where else. I'll tell you my first experience with this office ... you tell me if I was too harsh to give one star. I have lupus let's start there and have been in a two year long flare up which brings me to the OBGYN ...I am not pregnant but I have my immune system attacking my lady parts. I scheduled a urine rest for a possible bladder infection and the Dr. convinced me to do a pap while I'm at it since it's been a while. She gives me a call a few days later to let me know that it looks like I do have "something" going on but she won't be able to confirm, until she gets a urine sample. I explained to her that I had left a urine sample in the little window with my name like I was instructed to do so and she replies with " the nurses sometimes miss place them, I'm a Dr not a nurse so I wouldn't know what happened to it but we need to schedule you back to leave a sample"... needles to say I was not going to pay for another urine test because i had already been charged for the first! And I don't know about you but I'd rather my va-jayy fall out than trust it to someone who miss places anything I can only laugh about it now but at the time she really took my goat! ‍ read more

Honestly, I've gone here for the last 7/8 years i have NEVER felt so judged at all at this place. It's one thing if you're steering someone in the right direction it's another to talk to someone like they have no idea what's going on with their body. I'm not the smallest, but i work full time in psych, which has caused my body a great amount of stress. I don't eat terrible and i workout and walk atleast once or twice a week because that's what i have been able to make time for. COVID has been stressful, but never once have i ever been talked to the way the NP here talked to me making me feel bad for the way i look telling me, " you know it's really important to exercise and eat right, i know it's hard during COVID we just want to stay in and eat junk. Make sure we're in tune with our body if we're hungry or just bored." You never know what's going on with another person, those words she said to me have made me decide i NEVER want to go back to this place. It has taken the biggest toll on me. Then his AMAZING Nurse practitioner Jennifer Fernando she is so honest and keeps it real a breath of fresh air after my horrible experience at sharp chula vistas er yesterday where I was treated so poorly by their md but she made up for it. She is such a good asset to his office. Don't do it. I did and regret it! I saw Dr Kamali FOR 2 PREGNANCIES. The first one was when he was at Paradise Valley Hospital. He saw me at almost every visit and he wasn't available so he did NOT deliver my son. Second time around he had his own practice, so I followed him. I loved Kamali. I loved his nurses. I didn't mind the front desk people. Sometimes I had to wait a quite awhile, but whatever. I went thru an entire pregnancy here and then when it came time to deliver he didn't deliver at the hospital where I wanted to give birth (Sharp Mary Birch). He delivers at Sharp Chula Vista, but I heard really bad things about delivering there. I told him ahead of time I was going to Mary Birch and he advised against it. The morning I went into labor I called him and we talked for a while. He told me to come into Sharp Chula Vista and I told him I still didn't know what I was going to do, but that I was staying home to labor for a while longer. I went to Mary Birch as I planned, and he called me 30 min after the baby was born and he had a complete emotional breakdown. He made me cry hours after giving birth, while I was still at Mary Birch. He said that was wrong of me to go elsewhere to deliver b/c we had a relationship. He said he was waiting for me all morning at the hospital because I was supposed to meet him there. What??? You are a doctor, I am a patient. I have the right to make my own medical choices, regardless of your opinion!!! Kamali refused to sign my husbands leave paperwork indicating that I gave birth (so hubby could get paternity leave) because he said it was a matter of principle that we didn 't do what he he wanted so he wouldn't help us. INSANITY. Then he was supposed to do the newborn check up and he told us (the day the baby was born) not to bother coming back to see him. What a sad man. And what a sad way to welcome a baby into this world. You have been advised! Stay away!!! read more

I lost my baby at 5 months pregnant in the care of Dr. Kamali and his office. Due to a misdiagnosis and being taken off progesterone supplementation without checking my levels. This doctor and office does not know how to handle complex pregnancies. Choosing this Obgyn was the biggest mistake I ever made. I paid the ultimate price and lost my baby who had a strong heartbeat my entire pregnancy and lived for over two hours. Be experience ever! I had an amaizing pregnancy and an easy delivery because of Dr kamali. My c section went so smoothly and I barely have a scar! I cannot praise Dr. Kamali, his practice, and his staff more. I was originally with another OB/GYN but felt uncomfortable with her when at 30 something weeks of pregnancy we disagreed on my care. Long story short, I have a vertical scar from an emergency surgery when I was younger and had asked if labor resulted in a C-Section she open me vertically to avoid more scars in my abdomen. She wouldn't do it so I looked for another opinion. Dr. Kamali took me in at 37 weeks of pregnancy and respected my decision. Not only that but when I did end up having a C-Section he removed the extra scar tissue which had accrued during my pregnancy. Furthermore, my care at Sharp was beyond great. Everyone at the OR working with Dr. Kamali (and Dr. Kamali himself) made me feel relaxed (music was even playing), prepared, and completely painless. I repeat, I felt no pain whatsoever during my c-section. Not during the prep, not when the epidural needle went in, not when they opened me up, not when my beautiful healthy son was born, and not in recovery. I truly appreciated being able to bond with my son with absolutely nothing distracting me from being 100 percent in that moment. I highly recommend him, Sharp Chula Vista, and everyone who cared for my son, my husband, and myself. Yes, even my husband was being looked after when he was hyperventilating in the waiting area. I recently saw Dr. Kamali and had a wonderful experience. He is an amazing listener and gentle-mannered. He answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable about robotic surgery. Overall, my experience with him and his office was positive. He has a great staff and great follow-up.
