Scheduling an immediate appointment with a PCP can be challenging, which is fairly typical for Sharp HealthCare. That said, the ability to message my PCP directly through the app has been extremely helpful. My rating here is specifically for this facility and its staff, not the healthcare system as a whole. The newer urgent care extension has been a great addition. The nurses and doctors I've encountered have been consistently kind, patient, and understanding, which truly makes a difference. Overall, this is a very convenient location with great features, and I appreciate the quality of care and professionalism of the team at this site. read more

My family and I have been patients of this Sharp location since we moved here in 2022. I love the clinic staff and service we receive, however the issue has consistently been the appointment line. Often times I call when the appointment line opens at 0800, wait awhile and what sounds like a transfer to a representative ends up in the call hanging up. This happens 80% of the time that I call! Not too sure why this is happening? It's so frustrating to have to call back and wait in queue for something that I was already waiting for--- 15-20 mins waiting. I think a quality control needs to be assessed on the appointment line process. BTW.. when trying to book a same day sick call appointment being hung up on multiple times and having to wait in queue is beyond irritating and knowing others have the opportunity to take a same day spot that you could have taken. 1st call I was holding for 15 mins since the opening time at 0800, rep hung up when answered, immediately called back and now holding 30 minutes now and counting. I'm sure there goes my opportunity for a same day appt for my sick child. read more

I consider this to be an excellent medical center. My dermatologist is here, and also my husband's urologist, Dr. Darlin, who has a gift for making the patient comfortable. Staff have always been very pleasant and helpful, too. The only thing I would change (If ONLY I could!) would be to have some arrangement that would take away the necessity for patients who may be feeling ill and the elderly and other people using canes (which includes me) to complete an uphill walk on a ramp to get from the parking area to the building. Going uphill, even though it is not steep, feels like a very long and uncomfortable walk, with no place to sit and rest on the way. (How about a few benches, or even 1 or 2 single chairs?) It used to be that you could just park in the outdoor parking area and walk right into the building. Sigh! For this reason I am contemplating switching, when possible, to their new location next to the Chula Vista Shopping center on H St., which apparently has a parking garage right under the building. I hope this location will eventually increase the various types of specialists working there. read more

I went into Urgent Care for foot pain. It felt like an 8/10 pain so when the nurses offered a wheelchair because they had long hallways, I took the offer. Pretty much the first thing that was said by the doctor, Dallas Chase, was: "Oh, your foot hurts so bad you had to use a wheelchair??" I felt dismissed and judged. His whole demeanor was very sour in the beginning, as if he hated his job, as if he didn't sign up to help people. Very dry, no "bedside" manner. It was close to noon so maybe he was hangry? Me being sensitive, I started to cry. He then softened up and was more reassuring. But he still didn't even open my chart during the visit, acknowledged I had lupus and still didn't offer to order labs to check on inflammation in my body. I understand that urgent care can only take care of acute illnesses plus possible fractures/ injuries but the initial conversation of him asking me what I went to urgent care for felt belittling and dismissive. read more

This review is for my visit today with Ana R., an optician. I recently got glasses here and, in my haste, got all the "bells and whistles"- progressive lenses, photo changing lenses, blue filter, polycarbonate lens, costly frame- the whole shebang. I was very uncomfortable with wearing the glasses for the first week in that they did not fit well and trying to get used to the progressive lens prescription. The other 2 opticians who I spoke to in the office were helpful but not like Ana. I spoke with Ana yesterday and made an appointment for today. I went in and saw Ana R. and she was fantastic. She really took time adjusting my glasses and explaining about the progressive lenses and to take some time to adjust to them. She comforted me in knowing that I could make a change of my glass prescription if I didn't like them. How is she supposed to know how to help you if she doesn't listen to why you're calling. People like Diana R. shouldn't be in customer service because I was not giving any customer service at all. I was given rudeness and a bad attitude. It's like she was irritated that I even bothered to call to provide insurance information. Please put this woman in a different department. Went to Sharp Vaccine clinic, they were running 40-50 minutes behind!! You get a text days up to your appointment then the day of a reminder text to arrive early only to find out you will be sitting and waiting for 40-50 minutes!! That is ridiculous & unacceptable. Sharp raves about the "Sharp experience ". It's unfortunate I had to request to speak to a supervisor for her to coordinate their clinic to run more efficiently. Open enrollment is coming up for a lot of employees. Please ensure you are getting the care and courtesy you are paying for! You work hard for your benefits. read more

We've been long time Sharp patients and have been mostly satisfied with the patient care provided by the doctors but my husbands last visit at Sharp Rees stealy Otay Ranch Urgent Care was very disappointing. Husband had elbow surgery and was experiencing bleeding on his suture and went there to at least get the bandage changed and cleaned up but MD said since he'll be seeing his orthopedic nurse in a couple of hours, so no need to clean up anything. My husband ended up asking the MD to give him all the supplies needed to change his own blood soaked wraps. I understand where some MD's maybe uncomfortable handling postop procedures but to just change your blood soaked gauze/wrap is not rocket science. Why pay a copay when NO service was provided!??!! read more

My frustration is with Dr. Alshafie Hassan. I came in to see him awhile back about concerns with possible TMJ due to severe clenching related to anxiety. I came in like a physical list of additional concerns. I was able to mention the TMJ and one other concern before I was cut off with a non-stop 20 minute ramble about my obesity. I am obese and have no issues with talking about it and seeking medical advice. My issue is the dismissal of my actual concerns, that had nothing to do with weight. I've struggled with advocating for myself and have a hard time interrupting people. So when he went on an excessive speech and only took brief pauses to quickly catch his breath, I found it hard to find the right moment to cut in. I kept waiting thinking he would stop and I could say my piece, next thing I know the appointment is over and he is out of the room. He gave me an anti-nausea because that was a symptom of the other concern, and insisted on a referral to a nutritionist. Again, I don't mind taking about and addressing my obesity. It was the disregard for my actual reasons for the visit. I had hoped to get possible answers or advice on my jaw, I was in pain. I waited months to see him, to just sit there and leave after. This was my initial visit, I started looking for a new primary doctor as soon as I left the room. On a positive note, I love my primary doctor now! Dr. Caroline Dale is attentive and helps resolve my concerns, she is the best! read more

I can't believe I have not reviewed this SRS location as I have been a long term patient. I love how beautiful this location is and the cleanliness of everything. I came here to visit the physical therapy department and they are very quick to see my son in addition to providing exercises at home. I have also received several services here and I have not been disappointed. Lab can be quite busy but if you ask the front desk, they can let you know when the best times are to come back so that you don't have to wait so long. Pharmacy personnel are always friendly and I get my medications timely. There are multiple kiosks available if you don't want to check in at the receptionist area. Also, you get multiple reminders of your appointments so you don't forget and I appreciate the ability to look at my records through Follow My Health. read more

I placed a prescription refill online since one if my prescriptions is totally gobe and tge other is very low but when I went to this pharmacy I was asked to call a number for mail order service. That number I called was the longest 30 minutes which amounted to nothing since the representative Maria spoke like she was being paid by how long she can engage with a customer, and I mean that not in a good way. She ultimately connected me to "Benefits specialist" Adam who expressed chagrin that Maria "just dumped the call to me, so unprofessional" (his exact words). He said the system is down and if I can call in two hours (it's now 6 PM). Adam obviously wasn't of help either and even said, "You can keep talking to me but I won't be able to help you." LOVE this location. Best doctors and not super packed. All of my kids see Dr. Giguere for pediatrics and I could not say enough good/kind words about her in particular. Firstly, I will disclose I was a patient of Dr Rebecca Smith from Sharp-Rees Stealy Grossmont Plaza for approx. 7 years and she is an excellent medical provider, however, I was forced to seek out a new primary care physician when she accepted an admin position. I scheduled via the app with Jose Pelayo, who is located at Otay Ranch because he was the only one near my home whom I had previously seen some 8-9 years ago and did not like at all, so I had promptly switched to a provider no longer employed there. I never dreamed this visit would quickly turn into a nightmare. I had scheduled a routine annual exam as I usually used to do with Dr Smith, and I waited an exorbitant amount of time even though I was the first appointment of the day. Nothing too unusual yet as many of us have experienced with healthcare. I did not address any issues with this provider that did not pertain to my routine annual exam, and was a bit taken aback when he attempted to address issues that I had already discussed with specialists since Sharp-Rees-Stealy Policy has made it VERY clear throughout the years that we, the patients, are not allowed to discuss any issues not covered by routine annual exam coding. Yet this doctor clearly had an agenda to code as many issues as possible to maximize the company's bottom line. AT MY EXPENSE. This is, btw, standard practice with this system. However, I had never encountered this issue before in the 10+ years I was a Sharp-Rees Stealy patient with my annual physical. So I was unpleasantly surprised when I checked my bills for copays for other non-routine appointments I had had and noticed my annual exam had an almost $400 charge (which has since decreased to almost $200) and my labs were not covered due to the way it wasn't coded as it should have been. I already tried to reason with business manager who is trained to repeat the same phrase like a parrot since they don't have any authority over their unethical billing practices. I will definitely be taking this up to the medical board if needed. Cant just be overcharging whoever you feel like. I have a 60% deductible which means all these issues matter a great deal. And it's just WRONG! As such I can no longer in good faith recommend this institution, let alone this particular medical provider. Just absolutely the worst overall experience! Update: I just reached out to my insurance to follow up on this claim and apparently it has been resubmitted appropriately... how interesting! However, my labs were still being billed so I still had to fix that issue and it appears the overcharging issue has been cleared... So it appears posting your grievances all over social media gets you noticed more than a phone call to said entity to quietly and reasonably request to have the case reviewed. Duly noted! read more

DO NOT chose Dr. Jessica Adaleke as your family doctor. I recently sent her a message the sharp app concerning my symptoms, I mentioned fatigue, nausea, weight loss and her response was "you shouldn't be feeling like that, take an ibuprofen 600 with food". Off the bat she already is not being attentive, obviously if I wasn't fatigued I'd be able to do that. When I went in to visit her in the office she had no care for the way I was feeling and told me that my symptoms had nothing to do with my new implant and she told me I should go see a therapist. How unprofessional and rude of her to say that, when I spoke with my urgent care doctor her response was way more proactive and helpful then doctor Adalekes poor attitude towards her patients. My mom has had the same experience with her and says she avoids going to the doctor because Dr. Adaleke is so rude and does not care about her job. It is sad to see doctors that don't care about their patients and they are just in it for the money. read more

I planned my travels around this date - buying flights and accommodations. I continued to correspond with Sharp Rees-Stealy at its Otay facility and every indication pointed to a successful visit until today about a week to the appointed day, that they canceled. Been going here since I was a teen!! Dr. Amy Zanotti has been my primary care physician for years, and she is the best!! She's so kind and soft spoken. She takes the time to listen to all of your concerns without you feeling rushed. She's also very personable. Just wonderful. This is important in a doctor for me...someone who will just take the time to LISTEN, and who truly cares. The location has recently been remodeled, so it looks really nice and modern inside. This review is specifically regarding Dr. Susy Tsuruta and not this medical facility as a whole. It only took one visit for me to see how Dr.Tsuruta conducts her business, and it wasn't good. She was impatient, aggressive, and condescending towards me and my daughter. After waiting an extra 30min in the exam room the doctor came in to see my daughter. The doctor clearly didn't want to be at work and her attitude showed it. When my daughter had a hard time with the otoscope going in her ear the doctor became visibly upset and aggressive towards my daughter. The doctor assumed my daughter was being "difficult" rather than being patient with her. The doctor was so aggressive that she cut the inside of my daughter's ear. Then the doctor proceeded to lecture my daughter and I about periods, which we didn't have questions about. She did so condescendingly and with such a disgusting sense of self-importance that even my daughter brought it up to me after the appointment. She didn't address my health concerns for my daughter and never mentioned anything about her weight. Being overweight leads to high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease to only name a few but this was no concern for the doctor. She decided to lecture us on periods instead. I guess she likes the sound of her own voice. Also, I don't understand how a facility of this type employs doctors who themselves are not healthy and won't address weight issues. Don't go to this doctor, she clearly doesn't care about her own health, has no patience, knows it all, and will be aggressive if she gets upset. What a waste of time and money, not to mention how it left my daughter feeling. I needed to write this review to warn others because this person probably should be re-educated on how to approach their patients and their own health. A doctor and specifically a pediatrician should know better than to be rude and upset with her child patient. I still don't understand how there aren't health requirements for doctors. Darlin, MD, I cannot speak highly enough of my experience with this nurse's. Grissel always goes above and beyond to make me feel comfortable,safe and cared for during my visit. From the moment I roll in, I am greeted with a warm smile and a reassuring demeanor even when shes not having a good day. Grissel also takes the time to listen to my concerns and answer all of my questions thoroughly, but she also makes sure to explain everything in a way that is easy to understand. I really appreciate her attention to detail and the way she makes sure everything goes well throughout the entire appointment. So, got a ear canal cleaner tip stuck in my ear. Stupid mistake, shouldn't ruin my day. Couldnt fish it out myself, so I went to get some help. Should be a quick 30 second procedure. Off to the ER. On a Sunday... Waited an hour to get to the desk and pay my money (their 1st priority). Dozens of folks here with the flu, so I ask for a mask. "We cant give you a mask, theres a shortage!" Okay, can I wait my 3.5 hours to see someone outside in my car? "No, you have to stay in this room." Okay... give me a mask then, or you'll be seeing me in a few weeks for the flu as well. "Would you like the number to our Patient Experience line?" No, I like some common sense medical care, of which I pay you thousands a year for, and rarely use. A first week Resident can remove this, and Ill be on my way in minutes. You'll have space in your ER, and you'll probably help prevent the spread of the flu.... oh wait, that's how you make money! I have always been an advocate for Sharp Rees-Stealy because past good experiences. Everything changed when I was admitted to the Sharp ER recently and upon discharge I was instructed to see an Urologist in 1 or 2 days. Sharp Reese-Stealy wouldn't give me an appointment and only gave me excuses when I requested one within this time frame. After Sharp Rees-Stealy rejected my initial request I called again only to be told that they where going to review my case and "get back to me". As soon as I hanged up with Sharp Rees-Stealy with no success I decided to call one of San Diego's other Major Health Institutions (Competitor to Sharp) specifically their Urology department and after explaining my case in detail they gave me an appointment 2 HOURS later with their main Urologist. I was so grateful to them for listening to me and helping me out so quick considering their busy schedule. My question is why this other Major Health institution was able to give me an appointment and Sharp Rees-Stealy couldn't? Sharp Rees-Stealy had all my Sharp ER records and that didn't help "convincing" them that I needed to be seen soon. Days later Sharp Rees-Stealy called me to tell me that they were still working on my appointment and would get back to me. I told them to stop as I already had help with one of their competitors. Now (3 weeks later after calling Sharp Rees-Stealy initially) I am going into surgery soon in this other San Diego Health Institution to fix my issue. I just wonder some times what would have happened had I not called them and waited for Sharp Rees-Stealy to "get back to me" with an appointment. Just as an additional comment I have no issue with SHARP EMERGENCY ROOM. They get 5 stars. My issue is with Sharp Rees-Stealy and for that they get zero stars if I could give them that. PS. Got checked in and was told you are the first patient and the DR will see you as soon as he gets in.(wait I am here for my Appointment and the DR not here?) Waited 40 min in the exam room just to find out the DR WOULDN'T be coming in. Patient get charged for missing their appointment, my time is also valuable, I just waisted an hour of my busy morning. Changing DR and possibly providers. Why do the nurses need to call and find the DR? If it's an emergency the DR should have the courtesy to call this office. read more

Just FYI, be prepared to wait an hour to 2 hours for the lab. They open at 7:30 a.m. & I got there right @ 7:30 but there was only one person checking in patients. The receptionist at the Mammogram Dept helped out checking in patients but only said they would call my name when ready. People started to complain that no numbers were given out & started to question when they were going to be seen. One person was seen before everyone else because he started to complain about the service & he came in much later than I. Some people were fasting & what if someone passed out waiting to be seen?! I just don't know what to think. I used to LOVE this health group. I recently had surgery at sharp memorial. THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. I'm lucky I'm still alive. Now, all of my post visits, most scheduled on Friday afternoons keep getting cancelled or moved due to so called EMERGENCY meetings or personal issues. Hmmmm. If patients try to reschedule or cancel same day appointments, we are charged !! I have been going to Sharp for over 20 years. In this time I had two different primary care physicians. If I had an issue it would take them a day or less to respond and see me. Their feed back was always direct and I have never left with untreated and corrected issues. Since 2022 this has changed. My last primary physician left and I was handed to another. I have had two issues since last year. Both times it took several calls and several weeks of waiting to be seen. One issue is currently being treated and one issue was left unresolved. For the latest issue, I called many times trying to see my primary. They told me to go to urgent care but this resolved nothing. After several weeks and frustrating calls I was able to see an Nurse practitioner so I can get a referral. The care at Sharp is not what it once was. I cannot see my primary unless I book an appointment months in advance. So I can forget about seeing her for any future issues that need immediate attention. From what I have been told this situation is hospital wide. Physicians are treating patients who are not theirs causing this backlog of appointments. The hospital calls this "patient-sharing". I've told my wife we need to do something else because this problem is not going away. I miss the old Sharp. Hopefully we can find somewhere else with decent care. read more

Racial Discrimination and Racial Profiling is The SHARP Experience - On the morning of 2.22.2021 I was discriminated against and racially profiled at the the facility in 1400 East Palomar St. by their patient representative. I had a COVID test scheduled at 0800 and arrived at approximately 0740. I did not see anyone at the COVID testing tent so I approached the screeners at the main entrance and was told that someone would arrive closer to my appointment time. I waited until about 0810 before I started to call inside to try and find out what was happening. By this time it was me and a Hispanic gentlemen waiting to be tested. At some point after a Caucasian lady arrived and approached the COVID screeners dissatisfied due to a person not being available to do the testing. This was around 0820. I approached the COVID screeners again explaining that I had a 0800 appointment and needed to be at work. The screener then explained that the technician was running behind. I asked her why were we not informed and she basically said it was "not our fault". Nearly 0830 the patient rep starts to come out and approach the 3 vehicles waiting explaining that there were call ins and that they had called someone in to do the swabs. I again expressed my dissatisfaction and asked why were we not informed. I also asked to reschedule my appointment with no success. The patient advocate began to explain to me that the Caucasian lady would be tested first. I asked what time was the first appointment for the day and she explained 0800. I asked her why the Caucasian lady was being tested first when I arrived first, the Hispanic gentleman second, and the Caucasian lady last. In so many words she told me that was how it was going to be and basically whatever. I told her that what she was doing was racist and she told me "that's fine." The gentleman parked to my left began to talk with me saying that what was happening was ridiculous. He also confirmed that he saw me there at the tent waiting when he had arrived. At that time the patient rep stood between both of our cars and began to yell that things were going to take a minute. I yelled back at her telling her to get away from my vehicle screaming. At that point she denied yelling at us and walked away saying, "Oh my God what is her deal?" Granted at this time it is now nearly 0840, 40 minutes passed my 0800 appointment. When the technician arrived I got out of my vehicle once I say the Caucasian lady outside of hers. She was yelling at the tech for getting all 3 test set up saying she had to go and the tech only need one for her. I again explained that I was first and expected to be tested first. The patient rep approached me and started yelling at me again saying that I was not going first and to get back in my vehicle. I yelled back at her that I was not getting back into my vehicle and to get away from me screaming. At this point she called security on me. My question is I was outside of my vehicle expressing my dissatisfaction just as the Caucasian lady was but I get security called on me? Why? What was the basis for the Caucasian lady being tested first. I was racially discriminated against and racially profiled. When I was approached by security at my passenger window he asked me what was happening. I explained and he just said something to the effect that they had a rough morning. I rolled up the window, took my test and left. I would have left without the test but I need it for my surgery scheduled on Friday.
