Give me a good dive bar any day of the week - I am certain Ray and Dot's would take pride in being a dive bar because they are one of the best in the city. This place has been around for decades. Don't tell anyone but when I worked at McD's on 76th street we would go here after close - mostly underage but it was a blast! Fast forward to being a legal drinker for many years - don't ask me how many :) Drinks are reasonably priced and everybody sits at the bar so this is my kind of place. So after a couple of cocktails you may want some food to coat your stomach and yes they have bar food. It's cheap, greasy and will hit the spot after a couple libations. Nothing special but it's solid bar food. The staff is friendly and tries to get to know you and will call you by your first name and remember your drink. The interior is just like a good dive bar but it is exceptionally clean. read more

I stopped here after work for a couple drinks and to do some research of the area that I was going out of town to visit the next day. The place is part of a VFW post and it's a good size, not too big with a horse shoe bar, pool table, darts, atm etc etc. They have some extra seating with tables on the floor if the bar is full. The two female bartenders were nice and had no idea what a gin Rickey was but made them correctly with my help. They have a few taps but it looked mostly domestic. It seems to be a neighborhood hang out with mostly regulars except for me. Lots of fried looking food going out and the smell of food filled the bar which made me crave some bar food but I just had lunch so that's a no go. read more

Ray and dots is one of my favorite spots in the greater Milwaukee area. They're a small bar attached to the Legion in Greendale. The staff are pretty much always the same three bartenders who are super efficient and friendly. We were going here so often at one point they bought a product specially for us which is a personal touch you don't find in many places. The food is pretty typical bar food and they get it out quickly. You can't beat the prices either so it's a great spot to check out for an unpretentious hangout. The middle aged blonde bartender was incredibly rude! My bf and I went to meet his siblings as they were out and we decided to stop for a drink. We ordered two drinks and fries from her and she spilt my bfs drink all over because she slammed it down, said nothing and never returned his card! When he asked for it she rolled her eyes and pouted because at this point we asked for our fries to go and called his older brother a bully in the meantime. Overall a sour taste from a bar we spent 30 mins in. She may need more training-or possibly to just retire. If you can't AT LEAST not intentionally spill and be polite to customers, why work in food service? read more

I don't know how this place has such delicious wings. A local, homey bar can out-do places named for buffalo wings. They are juicy and tender and not overpriced. Buy a beer and enjoy your stay. A great place for keto, carnivore, or low carb. Wings are a loss leader on 1/2 price thursday, so buy a drink or two. If you are keto, like me, and don't drink you can buy drink tokens. read more

Where does one start when mentioning Ray & Dots? Well I will start with saying this...Ray & Dot's is an American Legion Post. The facility has a hall to host your next party. The hall has it's own separate bar. Now back to Ray & Dot's main bar area. Which features a elongated U shaped bar. They also have a single pool table. The drinks are where it's at when you come to Ray & Dot's offered at reasonable prices. They also have a small food menu to include things like pizza, burgers and wings. To the best of my knowledge the food is served till close. If you want to sit down and watch a game on one of their many TV's and have a drink this is the place for you. Local VFW post Ray & Dot's has been a staple in Greendale for ages. The atmosphere is laid back, and the drinks are very reasonable. If you're feeling hungry, they have a small food menu to order from. The staff here is very nice and makes sure you're taken care of. If you feel so inclined, there are pool tables and darts to partake in. You can also get some music playing with their digital juke box. I really like the people at Ray & Dot's. The VFW post is filled with friendly Veterans who are regulars there. They make you feel safe. The bar fare is good, deep-fried just right. The best part about Ray & Dot's is the cheap prices. Even the exports are cheap...plus they have many to choose from. My husband likes Franziskaner and they actually had it! I like my Corona Light and it's a 50-50 shot to find the Light at a bar but they have it here. When the smoking ban takes effect I will definitely spend more time here. read more

Ray & Dot's is an institution - it's an old VFW Post - you MUST go at least once just for the experience. I would highly recommend not going during the day however because it's just downright depressing. It's one of the few places where you'll see a Vietnam war veteran sitting next to a barely 21-year-old blonde and her meathead Brewer ball cap wearing boyfriend. My friends held a surprise 30th birthday party for me here. I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else (at the time anyway). Yes, the smoke will choke the life out of even the most ardent smoker. But the beer is so friggin cheap you'll have to work hard to spend $10. The bar food is pretty much all fried - just as it should be. Plenty of darts and pool to be had, and usually there's some nifty raffle going on to win a Weber grill or some Packers stuff. Odd side note: We were at Ray & Dot's the night the verdict was announced on the Mark Chmura case. My son took me here on a Friday for a few beers. We arrived late afternoon and it was not packed, but a little busy. The bar seating was full and it is a pretty big bar. Service was prompt and friendly, prices were very low, beer list had enough to satisfy. A great spot for a few brews. The food however was not very good. Again, very low prices and I guess the old saying "you get what you pay for" applies here. I had a bacon cheeseburger which seemed to be from the microwave. My son had wings and fries. Marginal but he said for the price, certainly ok. Also, as I said, it was a Friday and they do not offer a fish fry. A good thing to me because therefore no huge fish fry crowd! Ray & Dots is bad ass. Plain and simple. I grew up in Greenfield, and the place is pretty legendary among my group of friends from our debaucherous nights spent drinking Hoegaarden (a tap is like $2.50!) and eating nachos until we went blind. The people there are great, the service is what you'd expect when 50% of the patrons are veterans and for such a simple place it has a great atmosphere. It makes me a little sad that there have been fewer and fewer Ray & Dots nights in recent years, but I'm sure if I walked through the door today it would be exactly as I remember it, from the nights when I'd stumble home with my friends full of beer and having spent like 12 bucks. read more

Cheap drinks, friendly bartenders! Avoid the mini tacos though. Good place to just sit, drink, and socialize with friends. prices don't get much cheaper than this. There is definitely a night/day crowd. Coming here during the day expect a much older crowd, as it is an old VFW post. At night however, there is a much younger crowd. They recently did some remodeling as well, opening up the bar a bit more by moving the games to a newly opened side room. Only gripe is on weekends it can get crowded and drinks can take a while. NO, THIS IS NOT A VFW POST, despite 6 out of 12 yelp reviews claiming it is (and a healthy portion of google reviews). Seriously, if you don't know, don't list it (or in your case, Kristina S., get SNOTTY, tell me I am "wrong, don't know who told you this", as when I gently let you know this was not, has never been,a VFW bar, or extra snotty (snotty on the side? an extra portion of snotty? snotty as an appetizer? or just snotty for dessert). The bar business is owned by Mark Koepsel, and was previously owned by his parents, Ray and Dot. The space is LEASED from American Legion Post 416, who has NO financial interest in the place, at all, with the exception of being a landlord. I have no idea why people describe it as a VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) bar, though they do meet in the area east of the bar once a month, as do other veteran/military associations. When you LOOK AT THE BUILDING as you drive in, the American Legion sign on the left, and the Ray & Dots sign on the right is obvious to me. Regardless, this place rocks- nothing like a dive bar for inexpensive bar food, inexpensive beer and cocktails, and friendly bartenders. I've felt comfortable going here for years, and equally comfortable when my elderly mother stops in for a cold one. I've even seen a bouncer type at the door, on weekends. If you want drama or to start b.s., go someplace else. The bartenders keep an eye out, and the local PD is not enamored with bad behavior, either. I haven't ordered them in a long time, though they did at one time, have Scooby snacks on the menu... yum yum. This isn't where you go for dinner, though there is a decent menu of bar food if you get hungry. This isn't a "five star" restaurant, it's a local tavern, "dive bar", whatever you call your "go to" place. It gets a bit crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, especially when there are big doings in the village. At least, as big as doings can be in "the bubble", as Greendale is known to many who have lived here, raised children. It's generally quiet on weeknights, and REALLY quiet during the day.
