The bar staff are super friendly and prices are reasonable, if you're open to it, it can feel like a place you've been going to forever. Let me start by saying this place discriminates against you if you are anything other than a gay male. The bar tender was incredibly rude. He made us wait a ridiculously long while he took several shots with his buddies. Let me mention that we were the only other people in the whole bar. We were charged about $40 for two small glasses of bottom shelf whiskey... then when he gave us the bill, he had the nerve to say that the water was on the house... the only good thing about it was the music that was playing. And that's not saying much. I would recommend just walking past the place. I wouldn't even give it one star. BTW Some of the other reviews on this place have mentioned that because they were a woman, they were told that they could not come in. read more

My fiancée and I walked into this bar around 1am on a Friday night on the way back to our hotel. We had just gotten engaged the night before and the Temptations were singing "My Girl" on the jukebox, so we figured it was a good enough omen to stop in for one last drink before heading in. We were wrong. Upon entering, I first noticed the shirtless bartender pouring and drinking multiple shots with three patrons, who I assume were friends based on the way they were interacting. We sat on the opposite side of the bar for about 15 minutes before the bartender even acknowledged that we were there. Bear in mind that the aforementioned patrons were the only other people in the establishment. A few minutes later, he walked over and took our order. We specifically asked two doubles of bottom shelf whiskey and a cup of water. Upon returning, we were given our whiskey...definitely not double shots...and our bill for $33.50. We had just paid $24 for top shelf whiskey at a bar around the corner, so this made zero sense to us. We reluctantly paid our tab when the bartender slammed a cup of water in from of us and snickered, "The water is on the house." Our impression was that we were being treated differently because we were a straight couple in a gay bar. Instead of being grateful for patronage, the bartender was rude and acted as if he would rather not have our business due to our aforementioned sexual preference. I wish he would have just been honest and told us that we were not welcome instead of overcharging us for cheap whiskey and treating us as if we were not people for whom he could be bothered with doing even the simplest part of his job. If I could give this dingy dump, an aspect of the bar that really doesn't bother us...but make no mistake, the place is disgusting, fewer than one star, I would. I would recommend walking right past this place and a block up to the Voodoo Lounge where customers are treated with respect regardless of who they choose to sleep with. read more

We're middle-aged & not high maintenance. We have wonderful/fun memories of Rawhide when there was actual gay men patronizing it. What ever ownership/management did to destroy their business has worked. Was in town from 07/12 thru 07/16. Walked in Friday night at 12:30; there was two people and the bartender was outside on his phone? We walked out. Walked in Saturday night at 12:00 and same scenario. My Friend and I were grabbing drinks here tonight and were absolutely pleased with the atmosphere and experience until a woman started loudly starts arguing with a gay couple in the bar going as far as repeatedly trying emasculate one man and encourage the other to leave him . Tl;dr, the bottom couldn't shoot pool well and the top was ready to go home. Nothing unusual for 3AM in NOLA. Prior to this, the woman was loudly introducing a male friend to everyone as a regular and a local who's well known in the "gayberhood"-- which I thought was cute until this man proceeded to sexually harass me and the others who I invited for drinks at what I originally considered a safe environment for myself and others in the lgbtq community. The drunk woman indignantly introduced herself as "McKayla-- you don't need anything else. Call corporate and tell them it's McKayla from corporate bitch." She repeated this to me and the couple of men she clearly wanted to intimidate into leaving. Me and other guests witnessed her argue with a these men about how she's more entitled to be in the establishment than they would ever be. She was yelling this at two gay men loudly in front of at least 5 patrons. And I have no idea, She may be gay herself, but she was creating a hostile environment for these men anyone close enough to hear her. As a local business owner and someone who understands how these things are perceived by our tight knit community here in NOLA, I implore you to investigate this issue. After taking a look at some of the other reviews posted for your establishment-- it's clear the guests visiting your bar don't feel safe or welcome. Tonight I witnessed a clearly intoxicated woman who I originally assumed was a regular patron, flagrantly identify herself as a member of the corporate team for this place. I'd assume she's inexperienced or perhaps had a long night on the town. Which explains the industry standard to restrict employees from drinking off the clock at any establishments they represent. Regardless of the reason, I can assure you if "McKayla-- you don't need anything else. Call corporate and tell them it's McKayla from corporate bitch" represents the values of this bar it isn't a place I will return to or could possibly reccomend to anyone. The Bartenders were polite all night and even apologized for the Woman's Behavior. It was clear she felt she was correctly handling the situation in line with what her superiors would allow. She named a few of them but I didn't catch the names. I actually have a short video of her arguing with the bartender pleading with the woman to remove herself from the situation if needed, but I can assure you the cameras on site will reflect this incident. read more

My hot sweaty ass dragged in after a walk to and from the Bywater in pursuit of a friend I did not meet (but that was fine--I got to look at the awesome houses along the way and note the herbs growing in strange and exotic locations throughout the Marigny and much of the Bywater). I stumbled in and told the bartender I needed something fruity, light, and cold. He could've stuck a straw in me but I said "light and cold," as well. He asked me if I liked watermelon. I said yes. If I liked cucumber. I said yes. And whatever he made did the job. I could've passed out and died, but he restored by liquor levels and saved me. Formerly, Rawhide.. the Silver Fox was great until it wasn't - Our first stop here was great. The vibe and decor are awesome with dive elements. The first visit we had a bartender (long hair, wrestling headband) who was a highlight and very fun, he made us want to return later. Our repeat visit was soured by a different bartender (shorter guy) who had an attitude when asked simple questions. Every time I went up to get a drink I felt like I was somehow inconveniencing him at his own job. I wasn't the only one to have less than stellar service from him so someone in our party joked (among ourselves) that the service wasn't great. I guess he heard us even though we weren't addressing him.. we continued to order drinks all night and have fun because we understand things sometimes take time to make or whatever and it wasn't a huge deal to us. He would go on to make passing comments as he would walk by us just sitting and talking to one another. Rude, abrasive and quite frankly inappropriate. You're not always going to like your customers for one reason or another but we were completely fine, playing pool, having a good time. Do not come here if you want certain bartenders to make snide comments under their breath. He eventually got very angry and irrational with us, then threatened police as his coworker looked on in at him in confusion (clearly he does this a lot).. he wanted a confrontation and unfortunately it happened with our group. We decided to leave because who wants threats and hostility. I suggest better hires, some are above and beyond and others clearly are insecure and can't take a joke. If you want bartenders here to verbally berate you and threaten police because of jokes or if you also want them to wildly overcharge your card out of pettiness as well than stop on by. I suggest staying away until a new hire is addressed. read more

We walked into this bar because we wanted to grab a drink before heading back to the hotel. The bartender was extra friendly. He was very attentive and accommodating to me and my girlfriend. The vibe here is incredible. Great music on the speakers. Very friendly staff. We didn't even realize it was a gay bar and didn't once feel out of place or discriminated against. Soooo, um.... yeah. What had happen was I met a guy at Oz that was visiting from LA (Pasadena to be exact). Even though I was also visiting, he seemed to think I was some sort of tour guide or expert on the French Quarter. It all started when we met on the dance floor and he said friends recommended The Eagle. I love the Atlanta Eagle, I was kinda bored, and he was super handsome, so we continued talking. Two nights earlier I met someone wearing a harness that told me they just left Rawhide. Since it was closer than The Eagle, I encouraged Pasadena to check it out and volunteered to be his escort (no pun intended, really...). The smell hits you before your eyes can adjust to the darkness after opening the door. I won't ruin it by describing the fragrance, but let's just say an open window and a dozen Glade plug-ins would all be a welcome adjustment. After a few minutes and a Jell-O shot you get used to it, so just push through and try not to think about the consequences of touching dirty surfaces. I won't chronicle the acts I witnessed or describe any acts I may or may not have performed because I believe the Bible says it all. Being from Chicago I am familiar with Touche, Chicago Eagle and The Hole (basement of Jackhammer) so I was curious to see New Orleans take on a seedy/backroom/leather bar. I did not see that much leather, but it was a Sunday night. The beers were 2.50 a bottle, a steal compared to what I usually pay. It was your typical cruising bar. The front part of the bar is where you order your drinks and play pool. The back area (not back room) is where the "fun" occurs. It is an open space with benches against the one wall for people to stand or sit. People ogle, touch, what have you. Mostly it was a bunch of guys standing around doing their own business. Previous reviews are correct. If you have to use the bathroom I am sorry. The one bathroom, approximately 7x7 room, had about twenty guys inside trying to have "fun." When I needed to use the washroom I was S.O.L. I can't believe no one suffocated in there with the lack of air. If you are looking for a quick easy release I would recommend this bar. If sleaze scares you slightly then I would just walk past. read more

Judging from these past reviews I'm glad my wife and I found it when we did in 2019 and not when it was wilder. The staff was extremely friendly, patrons were welcoming and drinks were cheap. We Did see one guy in a dog mask and leather studded g-string. That was strange but if you don't step on my toes, then you do your thing, it's New Orleans after all! Side note about the bartender. I'll start by saying what Rawhide is NOT. Not Brittney and Gaga blaring. Not twinks. Not hype, pressure, or fashionistas. It IS great place for friendly staff and customers, a place that is quiet enough to have a chat but loud enough to be rocking. Sure there's porn(ish) videos playing, and one of the restrooms is busier than the other, but if you want to meet local and visiting men in a no-attitude cruisey space (as the bartender said, "drinks are half-price if you take your shirt off) then this is the place. You can get sleazier (the Phoenix) and prettier, but the Rawhide is a great starting/ending/middle point just a block off Bourbon. read more

Boyfriend and I wandered in around 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday, not realizing it was a gay bar. While the tap handles and music kinda gave it away - we somehow missed the giant tvs of porn for at least the first hour we were there. Our bartender Rich, made the best hurricanes we found in New Orleans - we had a killer time. The place was low-key and just filled with a few regulars and tourists. Vibe in the afternoon is apparently much different than the night (so I hear). Wasted (which I think cost all of $34 for two people) and hungry, we took all the local food recommendations and ate like kings all weekend. What the?!?!? This bar is GD amazing. There was a little drama with the manager quitting the day we were in but let me tell you... the fill in staff was the best. They kept our drinks full and smiles on our faces!! They were also super helpful in suggesting some great lunch spots for us to check out while we were in town. Great bartenders, hot guys, lots of cruising, and a big "back area" to boot. If you like bears, leather and a little (well, okay...A LOT of) raunchiness, this the place to be. The bartenders and staff that I encountered were all nice and cordial and the drinks were cheap and strong (even though I imagine a lot of guys aren't coming here to drink). Just about all of the gay bars in the French Quarter are good, but this bar and the Phoenix should be your main event for any night out in New Orleans. I'm definitely looking forward to returning for Decadence this year! But fair warning, guys: 1) Leave your Drag and Lady friends at Oz or Bourbon Pub or some other "neutral" bar, and 2) Don't pull out your cell phone...that's a good way to make a normally nice staff somewhat unpleasant. read more

Full Disclosure: I can't tell you what Rawhide 2010 is like during any other time but Southern Decadence on Labor Day weekend, so I'm not sure how helpful this review will be if you're going to N'awlins any other time. I -can- tell you that this place absolutely rocks during during Decadence. And by "rocks" I mean it is a gathering place for Men. If you're looking for the "pretty boys" head on down to Oz's Bourbon Itch (or something like that). The patrons at the Rawhide 2010 are much more down-to-earth, older, friendlier and furrier. The drinks are potent and the theme nights / parties are a lot of fun even if you're just playing the part of a spectator. It was also refreshing to hear -rock- music in a gay bar! I heard some Led Zeppelin! I heard Black Crowes! I was about ready to hold a lighter up and scream "Play some Skynyrd!" I am definitely a fan of Rawhide 2010 and it will be another "must-visit" spot on my next trip to N'awlins. read more
