Perched in a perfect corner location, this trendy Japanese joint serves up some delicious sushi, bento, udon and teriyaki... at a price. And why not? Bondi is at a notable loss of delicious authentic Japanese spots and the sushi situation is dire at best, so these guys don't have too much competition nipping at their fins. Luckily, this doesn't seem to dull down their quality game - the sashimi was fresh, the produce used for tempura was crisp, and the menu was a solid array of usual suspects (think: agedashi tofu), crowd-pleasers (think: inside-out spider crab roll), and tougher-to-finds (think: ohitashi) all of which I can personally report were delicious. Certainly prettier than most sushi bars I've been to, my best recommendation is to just sit back and soak it up - the view, the cocktails, the miso, all of it. read more

Unfortunately Bondi doesn't have best array of Japanese and so Raw Bar does seem to be one of the better beach side options. Loved this place. Went in late on a Saturday around 8pm and quickly seated to table and offered one of three types of water. Seating is a bit squished but doesn't bother us. A lot of the menu options look desirable, from nigiri, sushi rolls, salads and hot dishes. We went with the tuna tataki main size - so fresh and delicious, with a peppery crumb and wasabi Mayo to accompany it. We also got the shallots covered in beef with salad and the agedashi tofu which is in my top 2 of agedashi tofu that I've tried. There were some other people's meals coming out and the salad looked amazing and the misu nasu (eggplant) so I'll definitely have to go back. read more

I sign up just to write about the horrible experience we had at this restaurant today. We are an Asian family. This afternoon we were waiting outside. After about 20 mins, my mom sat at table outside along with another local family, because she cannot stand the heat. A male waiter (perhaps the manager) barged outside, took her chair, said" do not touch the chairs", and invited the other family in. Not a single waiter came and talked to us about what happen, or whether they were closing or not . It's understandable that they might be busy. I would not like to assume that anyone is racist, but the overall service, and the basic politeness are not there. I would 100% not recommend you to go there if you are Asian, even though ironically it's a Japanese restaurant. read more

Been on the too visit list for a long time, always busy and been around for a while so fair to assume food would be good. Our benchmark is Toko and we started with Edamade, seared Salmon sushi and the Raw salad all fantastic. We finished with Teriyaki chicken not as good as the lead up but still solid. Had two beers and two reds all for $130. Definitely recommend. read more

We love this place. Excellent food - service is always friendly, helpful and pretty quick. We usually go early or get take out; inside they can get pretty busy & cramped the later it gets. Even when they're busy - the staff is always awesome to our kids and as helpful as possible. Drinks/beers are good. Sushi itself is usually very good. A little pricy - but the usual for Bondi. If you have young kids - go early. If you don't - go whenever - you'll like it. read more

Undoubtedly the rudest phone and customer service manner we have ever had! They messed up our order, then disputed the facts, then overcharged our rectified order and then put the phone down on us! I am quite upset that I have had to write this review - I am normally a huge fan of the restaurant and have been a regular of them for over 10 years - but tonight I have had a horrible experience with the servers and general manager - and they don't deserve my praise any longer for the way they handle the situation. There was blatantly a miscommunication on the order over the phone and when we tried to rectify they said it was "too late" and charged us for things we didn't order because they had our credit card number. For sashimi that they had "prepared". I was on the phone to the manager who was rude, and unpleasant and treated me like I was dirt. It was the most horrible experience - they should not treat paying customers that way. They could have handled it so much better - and I would have praised them for the smart customer service and kind attitude to paying guests. Instead here I am, ruined dinner with my family, wasted money and writing a pathetic review on yelp. Thanks raw bar. read more

Worst customer service around. From the beginning they were rude sitting us. My friend told the waitress she is highly allergic to sesame seeds and wanted a roll without them. The food then came out at all different times. By the time 4 out of 5 of us were done eating my friends roll did not even come out. We asked where her roll was and they replied that they were very busy meanwhile half the restaurant was empty. My friend then took a bite of the roll and realized that it did have sesame seeds in it. We told the waitress and she said "Oh yeah I forgot to tell you." This is an allergy someone's life at risk and you just happen to forget to tell her that they are in it. I then asked for teriyaki sauce on the side. The waitress rolled her eyes and did not answer. Ten minutes later the sauce came out and said thank you. She replied "It's okay", very rudely. Throughout this meal the whole waitstaff made my table feel very uncomfortable with their horrible customer service. read more
