I went there for lunch this week and I found it to be the most wonderful place. The staff are very friendly, especially the two girls serving the food. The owner was there and he actually makes the sushi - dressed in his business shirt and little hat he looked really cute. He also impressed us by clearing tables - not many owners would do that when they have staff to do it. The food is sublime: if you try nothing else, try the soft shelled crab roll (10 pieces). The way it is presented is an absolute work of art. They serve both hot and cold meals, udon soup, noodles as well as a lot of salads - great with the hot weather. West Ryde is not exactly a hot spot for restaurants but maybe Tatsuya will change that.

It is in a small space and is always packed. If you don't book a table beforehand during busy times, expect to eat at the sushi bar as that will be the only available space they have. The sushi is fresh and there are a lot of varieties in terms of their sushi rolls, which are humongous! They were happy to oblige our request to only have grilled salmon and grilled scallop when we ordered their grilled sushi set. The rice meals are delicious and good value for money, the servings are plentiful. My favourites are the chicken teriyaki, the chicken is swimming in their sweet teriyaki sauce and cooked tenderly, and the cheese katsu which is a delight for someone who loves cheese as much as I do. You can BYO but they will charge a corkage fee for each wine glass. They opened a second branch in Artarmon, which can only mean business is good. How can it not be if you serve consistently good food at decent prices?

It just opened up a couple of weeks ago, so it's still new in the Glebe dining scene, but based off the crowds we've seen walking by other times, and when we were in, it's doing really well. The fish wasn't the top quality, but given the portion sizes and the vast options, it's goo enough. We loved the seafood hot pot, with crab, octopus, prawns, salmon head, and all kinds of veggies! And the Ishiyaki Bibimbab was smoking hot and cool to look at as well. We'll put this in the rotation for future feed-bag nights. Not the fanciest, but it'll fill you up and won't break the sushi bank!

Even though the restaurant sign is also kinda cheesy, don't let hat steer you away! The decor in Soy says something completely different than the sign. Its elegant and cool. It's also really tiny--only about 14 or so tables of twos or fours, but there is big flavor here. We had eggplant degaku and two rolls and it was a comfortable amount of food for two. The spicy tuna roll is awesome. I'm used to a roll with tuna that's more like a paste mixed with the spicy sauce. Here, it was pieces of raw tuna inside the roll, topped with avocado on the rice, and the spice was the sauce on the very top. It was different and my favorite roll we had. Can't beat the setting either--it's right on the beach and offers a cool breeze through the restaurant in the evenings. Definitely worth a try. Enjoy!

There must almost be more sushi restaurants than coffee shops in Sydney, which is saying something…read more I was recommended to try this one in Bondi Junction, and when I turned up, I could see that I hadn't been the only one. There was a substantial queue forming outside the shop, as people longingly gazed in to see the delicious fishy morsels circulate on the conveyor belt. I was relieved, however, that the queue was only to eat-in, and if I wanted to take-away, I could take my pick of sushi now. So that is what I chose to do. Being a bit of a sushi novice, I didn't really know what to do or what to choose, as all these little dishes whizzed past. Luckily, a charming waitress was there to help me - she told me what each of the delicate parcels contained, and which her favourites were. OK, I thought, flexing my fingers, what shall I grab?? I had a budget of $11 (all that was in my pocket), but I was amazed that I could afford a bundle of edamame beans, six mini tempura chicken rolls and six mini salmon and avocado rolls. A feast for lunch. The sushi was delicious - I particularly enjoyed the salmon and avocado. I think next time, I would be tempted to join the queue and sit down in the restaurant. They had some delicious-looking tempura asparagus and some tuna rolls that I would love to try. Visiting this restaurant is therefore a matter of timing - make sure you join the queue before you get too ravenous.

I was a bit nervous on the drive there and went in with low expectations. The restaurant is very small and had elements of a typical Japanese restaurant set up. I ordered the katsu chicken ramen an shared the magma roll. The katsu chicken wasn't your normal golden brown coloured exterior but nevertheless tasted really good. I thoroughly enjoyed the ramen after I heaped on some chilli flakes. This isn't readily available on the table so don't forget to ask if you're a fan. The soup was pretty delicious and I almost drank my bowl dry. The magma roll was a bit disappointing though. Not as hot as I expected. Having salmon and canned tuna pieces together probably isn't the best idea either. The tuna definitely out ways the salmon even though it's the salmon you really want to task. Overall a great place for a ramen fix if you are ever in western sydney.

They're many Japanese restaurant contenders in my area but this tiny place remains me of alot of gems we visited in Japan. The quality is awesome, especially for such a small restaurant. I've been visiting this place since it first opened and been a loyal fan since. FYI they do open on Sundays now so don't be deterred!

For 15 years I've been enjoying that feeling of having a special place thats pretty much perfect. Where the guys knew me and the food was way above the rest. Makoto was the best Sushi Train I'd ever been to and it was fully 1 minutes walk down the road. So I went a lot, I mean at least 800 times. The value was there. My favourites were the tempura king prawn hand roll, the king prawn and omelette hand roll and the most basic of all, the salmon sushi. Thing was, all the offerings were fresh generous and delicious. Last year a new owner came in. You don't need to read anymore if you, like me, know what that always means. The first to go was James who had been there from the start. Most of the staff went because they put in the ubiquitous computer screen ordering system. Then they removed all the old prawn dishes. All of them. Now you are lucky if you get a pre prepared frozen crumbed prawn covered in a mayo mess. Then they reduced the sizes of every dish on the train so the salmon was much smaller. All my favourites disappeared or were scrimped. Then they put all the prices up. The next thing to go was the queue, then the regulars stopped going. Now there's barely anyone there at 12 noon when there used to be a wait for ten to fifteen minutes. I'll still go now and then because its still fresh and its still close. The really sad thing is that I see people there who never saw what it used to be - they probably think that this is a pretty good place, they don't know what it was like. Sigh. Update October 2018 The tempura king prawns hand rolls are back!!!! The other day they had the old cooked prawn and mayonnaise gunkan on the train, its not back full time but at least it made an appearance! The salmon sashimi is no longer scrimped upon. Its back to its old size. Back to 5 stars for the prawn hand rolls alone. Thank you God, I really missed those things. And they are still on the blue plates, which have been bumped from $3.60 to $3.80 - so what - 20c!! Two words - yaa. hoo.
