    Healthy retirement after surgery!

Dear Dr. Rasouli, I am writing to express my deepest gratitude to you and your extraordinary team for the outstanding care I recently received. In the weeks leading up to my surgeries, I carried a great deal of fear and pain, both physically and emotionally. From the very beginning, you provided reassurance through your calm confidence, thoughtful explanations, and exceptional expertise. Today, as I continue to recover and do well, I know this positive outcome is a direct result of your remarkable skill and dedication as a surgeon. Equally important, I want to acknowledge the compassion and professionalism shown by your nursing team along with the entire office and clinical staff. Ashley, Hector, Liz, Hannah, and every member of your team treated me with kindness, patience, and respect throughout multiple communication events. They responded quickly to my questions and concerns, never making me feel like a burden, and they guided me through every step of this process with empathy and understanding. Their support brought me tremendous comfort at a time when I needed it most. It is rare to encounter a medical team that combines such a high level of technical expertise with such genuine compassion. The collaboration between you and your staff made an experience that was once frightening into one that I now look back on with gratitude and relief. Please know that I will always remember the care I received under your guidance, and I am sincerely thankful for the healing and peace of mind you have given me. With heartfelt appreciation, Steve Pagani

Dr. Rasouli put the artificial disc at the bottom of all the other metal. But many many doctors won't do that surgery due to its location.

After having a four level surgery in 2019 by a different surgeon, I started getting terrible nerve pain again. I needed another cervical surgery, and it sounded very major. Lots more fusing. I heard about dr. Rasouli from someone who had a very successful surgery. The short story is that Dr. Rasouli was able to give me an artificial disc. The surgery took 45 minutes and I went home. I'm healed and happy. He is kind and very transparent. Cedars-Sinai has a wonderful , caring staff..

Ask the Community - Rasouli Spine

I have Medicare and I am with senior advantage at Kaiser. During open enrollment for medical plans in the fall what insurance should I get so that Dr. Rasouli can see me for an appointment?

Dr Rasouli doesn’t take Medicare, but he does accept Blue Shields. His coworker, Dr Sodha, does accept Medicare. They work closely together.

I don't think I need surgery but I do need my back looked at by a specialist according to my general. I understand Dr. Rasouli has great reviews as a surgeon; I'm wondering if he ever recommends non-surgical treatment?

We would be happy to help you. Not all spinal problems require surgery. In fact, our initial approach in most cases is nonoperative intervention. This includes some of the latest techniques in interventional pain management such as facet blocks,… Read more

I want to emphasize "I was on my way to LOSING THE ABILITY TO WALK ". I walked over an hour combined on Saturday after a Tuesday morning surgery. Bilateral neck and shoulder pain and weakness already 90% better. We traveled from LAX to Seattle yesterday - now 10 days out from surgery. I had wheelchairs scheduled to help me. I used the one at LAX out of force of habit. By the time we got to Seattle, I said to my wife "I'm not using that wheelchair, I want to walk". I walked for a half an hour, stopped at Starbucks to get her a coffee, our luggage was 45 minutes late. I was on my feet for well over an hour - zero pain. I had my three week postop visit with Dr. Lanman on Monday, he gave me the green light to start riding the Peloton bike. I've ridden every day for the last four days, no pain, starting to regain further leg strength. I haven't been able to walk barefoot in 20 years without significant pain. I walk everywhere barefoot now. In three weeks I've been cleared to start mountain biking again!!! I can walk up flights of stairs without having to pull myself up using the railing. We had five people over for dinner a few nights ago, I was on my feet for 2 1/2 hours cooking completely pain-free. I got to spend the entire Easter church service standing pain-free. These may sound like little things, but they're absolutely life-changing to me. I don't know how to say this anymore emphatically - if you are experiencing back and neck pain PLEASE reach out to Dr. Lanman for a consultation. He's compassionate, thoughtful, and knows as much about preserving spinal function as anyone. So much of our overall health is predicated on motion/activity. I'm 59 and I love being active, truthfully, I was dreading aging because I was in such horrible chronic pain. Now I'm looking forward to growing older, seeing my son get married and who knows maybe being a grandparent one day. I don't know if Dr. Lanman is the finest spine surgeon in the world, but in my opinion I would say there isn't anyone better! I know this is a long review, but I'm so grateful - I'll wrap up by saying the two other surgeons I spoke to wanted to fuse my cervical spine and make no repairs to my lumbar spine. I'm a person of deep faith, I was despondent at my prospects. I asked God for guidance and during that time that's when I found Dr. Lanman. My insurance paid for part of my surgery, because of the way insurance companies operate I paid for the additional portion. It was so worth it!! I told Dr. Lanman 10 out of 10 times - I would do it again. His staff is terrific too! Shout out to Blair and Arlene - they were so helpful to me during the pre-and post surgery process I can't say enough nice things about them.

Although I live in Long Beach and had limited time to visit in person, Dr. Melikian was kind enough to initiate contact via email and responded promptly. He arranged a quick phone consultation at no charge. He came across as very amiable, genuinely concerned, and highly knowledgeable about the subject. During our conversation, he brought up additional tests and treatment options I wasn't previously aware of. The call was definitely productive and appreciated. My only gripe, generally speaking--not specific to his practice--is that stem cell treatments are exorbitantly priced and not covered by insurance. Expect to pay anywhere from $6,000 to $9,000 or more for various stem cell treatment options. So, not a go just yet until I figure out how to come up with the money, I will have to live with my back pain.

I remember the first few years of his treatment were very difficult and frustrating for my son, until we started seeing Dr. Robert Cho. At the time, Dr. Cho was working at the Shriner's Children Hospital in Pasadena and he came highly recommended by many of the doctors that I had spoken with. Right from the beginning, my son and I really liked seeing Dr. Cho because he genuinely cared about my son and provided us with great advice. Dr. Cho always spent as much time as was needed to look at my son's scans and to explain any good or bad changes that were seen. We never felt like he was rushed or too busy to provide anything we needed. Dr. Cho did an excellent job of communicating all possible treatment protocols, including the very real possibility that my son would one day need surgical intervention. Although we all hoped that my son's curvature would not get worse, Dr. Cho was very honest from the very beginning of my son's relationship with him. Around June of 2025, I received a message from the Shriner's Hospital that Dr. Cho was now in private practice, so I reached out to his new office to schedule the next appointment. Even if Dr. Cho would have moved to a different area of the country, we would have traveled to see him, but lucky for us, Dr. Cho kept his practice here in the Los Angeles area. When we saw Dr. Cho in July of 2025, my son's curvature had gotten to the point that Dr. Cho recommended Anterior Vertebral Body Tethering to help fix the scoliosis. I remember this appointment very well, because even though I had a feeling the curvature had gotten much worse, we always hoped that things would be ok and we would not have to worry about a surgery for another six months. Dr. Cho did an amazing job at not only explaining the surgery to me, but more importantly, making sure my son felt the confidence that this was the right course of action. Not only is Dr. Cho a world class surgeon, but he is one of the most approachable and nice persons you could ever meet. Some surgeons are good in the OR but have a horrible bedside manner, others have a good bedside manner but are just ok surgeons. Dr. Cho is both and that is special. In the weeks leading up to the surgery, Dr. Cho kept my son and I in the loop about every aspect of the surgery. He was always available to us if we had any questions. On the date of the surgery, my son was very nervous until Dr. Cho arrived in the pre-op room. Dr. Cho did an amazing job of putting my 13 year old son at ease, and then did an amazing job during the 6 hour plus VBT surgery. After the surgery, my son had eight brand new titanium screws in his spine along with a tether, but he was up walking before 8 pm. My son was released from the hospital the very next. After just a few days of laying low, my son was walking around the neighborhood and doing his Lego sets. Before, during and after the surgery, Dr. Cho was always there for my son and our family. My son will always have scoliosis, but with Dr. Cho's expert skill, knowledge, and expertise, my son is already back to playing the sports he loves and SCUBA diving. I could not recommend Dr. Cho enough if your child is diagnosed with scoliosis. I wish we would have met Dr. Cho from the very beginning, but I am so grateful that he was available to treat my son and guide our family through what sometimes seems like an impossible maze of scoliosis decisions.

Since the procedure, I continue to experience unresolved issues, yet I have not felt a meaningful level of follow-up care, support, or accountability from your office. This is extremely concerning given the nature of the surgery and the expectations set beforehand. Additionally, I am deeply troubled by the financial structure of this arrangement. My bill has reached over seven figures, which I find excessive and difficult to justify. I was also informed that my insurance would not be accepted, and instead, a lien would be placed against my case. This approach raises serious concerns about whether financial considerations are being prioritized over patient care. From my perspective, the current situation feels one-sided and unfair--especially as I am still dealing with ongoing medical issues while being faced with an extraordinarily high financial burden. I am requesting: * A clear and detailed breakdown of all charges * An explanation of the billing structure and lien process * A plan for addressing my ongoing medical concerns I expect a prompt and transparent response.
