Well. Let me just say that I have return trips planned for the next two days. It seems excessive until you remember that they have specialty drinks that really can't be found anywhere else in the area (Hokkaido and Ice Cream Milk Teas??) and that it's BOGO until their grand opening on Monday 4/21. Drink prices range from about $3-4 but they're also 175% the size of a normal milk tea, in a circumference that actually fits in your hand. No chubby cups here. I sampled (aka shamelessy sipped) several of my friends' drinks and I haven't been disappointed yet. It's called SHAREtea for a reason, right? You can customize the level of ice and sweetness of your drink to your preferred level, but since their drinks tend more towards the fragrant tea side than the sweet and milky side I've found adjustment usually isn't too necessary. I WOULD however recommend getting lower ice if you have add-ins (pearls, red bean, etc) since that ice really hampers your ability to enjoy them with the drink. Other useful tidbits: - Order Ahead: have not been able to find them on the app, but apparently they're using it. - Creama: epitome of picturesque with a thick layer of frothy, salty cream floating on your milktea. Use one of the mini knives to cut the lid and enjoy. - Sharetea has also opted out of their stamp cards and is using Five Star instead - sign up so you can start earning your way to those free drinks! - The stamp card is still useful as a durable mini menu you can stuff in your wallet. Can double as a checklist for the completionists out there. ;) - Fruit teas use real fruit; don't be alarmed when you're drinking pulp. Most of the tables are meant for parties of two or three, but if chairs are plenty then chair-squeezing is possible. I really like the color scheme, employee shirts and most of all the screen-printed boba posters inside, so plus points for decor! Oh, Sharetea.. I like you, but I don't like you. But I really do like you. It's very apparent that Sharetea uses quality ingredients in their teas, but I think they focus more on their other flavors than the actual teas. Not that that's a bad thing, but if you love bold, robust tea flavors, this place might not be for you. Located on the already-cramped street of Bancroft, this place never lacks a line. There are a few scattered tables inside, but the noise level really doesn't allow for quiet conversation or (although I've seen a few people try) studying. There is only one size, although the price point is reasonable for what would be considered a large at other places. They accept Fivestar rewards, and I believe 12 drinks gets you a free one. I always get at most half sugar in my drinks, and even then, sometimes they feel a little much (especially creamas and milk teas). I like that they offer 30% sweetness and no sugar, which allows for perfect customization. The milk teas and creamas are really, really creamy, so that makes those drinks punctuated indulgences for me instead of regular buys. It was really refreshing and addictive though, so I might get this with 30% sugar next time to calm these ambivalent feelings. I thought cutting open the top and sipping the creama was delightful, especially because the slight saltiness of the cream on top balances out the sweetness of the tea. The herb jelly was really jelly-like and soft, more so than at other places. The red bean on the bottom of the second drink was way too sweet for me, and that on top of the already sweet milk tea was a little much. No tea taste period, which made the price tab seem completely unreasonable. Despite this being really light (I guess water tends to be like that), I probably wouldn't get this again. Though the boba market is really getting saturated in the campus area, I'd have to say that Sharetea is a welcome addition. From what I am aware of, Sharetea is a Taiwanese bubble milk tea chain, and while I'm not going to dig deeper and try to understand what it's relatively confusing English name really means, I am going to accept and concede that their drinks are excellent. Whereas Berkeley has a ton of great boba places, I find that most of them are not that authentic, and to put it plainly: not that Chinese. I'm not going to get into an argument of China vs. Taiwan, and I am honestly not educated enough in that area to make a reasonable argument. Nonetheless, Sharetea really does feel more Chinese/Taiwanese, and it really is conveniently located. Right now, with the BOGO deal, I've been getting solid, quality drinks for $2, and I honestly can't complain about that. While line control was not necessarily ideal, service was amazing, with one employee walking by the line and giving free samples. Sharetea has provided an amazing experience for their opening, and while there are many skeptics and Purple Kow diehards, I really feel as though Sharetea is going to stay. Sharetea is definitely worth the hype, and almost worth the hour and a half wait (time is money, people). Tried this place out today (Monday, 4/21), the last day of their grand opening weekend. The line was craaaaazy--way out the door and very, very slow--but I'm sure things will calm down (at least, I hope so...) after the BOGO deal ends today. I'd say drinks average $3.50. Cups are what you'd consider a "large" at places such as Quickly and Sweethearts; I believe they're the same size as a standard order at Mr. Green Bubble. I had the Okinawa Pearl Milk Tea (brown sugar milk tea) and it was delicious. I normally order my drinks with less sugar (as a point of reference, I get 50% at Purple Kow), but the sweetness here was pretty good without any adjustment. The tapioca pearls were soft and chewy, but maybe a little too mushy... Regardless, I still loved the drink! Sharetea just might be my new favorite boba place in Berkeley. From what I can tell so far, their milk tea is great quality and their menu is a HUGE selling point. You'll find a lot of options here that are not available elsewhere in Berkeley, such as the Okinawa and Hokkaido Milk Teas. Woohoo, my quest for great boba on southside has finally ended!!! Sharetea itself is pretty small in terms of square footage, with a few small tables located inside. The decor is modern and colorful... But it gets crowded and often has a line going out the door, so you'll probably be best just going in and out. Their fruit teas are the best! I tried the grapefruit tea, and my friend tried the kiwi one. I'm a huge advocate of real fruit in the teas (which is why I'm such a big fan of Asha down on University). I'm definitely trying out the milk teas next time, though. My drink was decently priced at $4 with large-sized cups, but not the annoying (but admittedly cute) chubby-cup shapes that Purple Kow gives you -- which means they also fit in the cupholder in my car! **TIP** If you're like me and don't like your drinks too sweet or too watered down, you can specify the sugar and ice levels! Yummy tea! I decided to try out Sharetea since it was near me and I've heard all the hype that this is the best boba in Berkeley. I'm not sure if it's the best, but I'm definitely hooked! I ordered the mango green tea crema and the high mountain tea crema. High mountain tea crema (3 stars): Eh, it's okay. The flavor was a green tea(?) I think. I found it rather boring even with the crema and 100% sugar. It just wasn't worth $4 and some change with boba. Mango Green Tea Crema (5 stars): Now this is the one of the two best teas I've had with boba! I tried to cut a slit at the top and drink the crema, but it tasted a little salty, almost like cream cheese. It was good, but too strong to sip alone so I mixed up the mango tea with the crema and it was delicious. I got it 50% sugar and that's sweet enough for me with this drink, especially with that fattening crema. I think this is my go-to drink at Sharetea and it's so addicting, I can't wait to get more! You get your drink in a timely manner even though it's probably likely that there's a line in front of you. I loved the Hokkadio & Okinawa Milk Tea, half sweet, light ice. How have I not reviewed Sharetea yet? The basics: Service is quick and efficient, and the store is kept relatively clean. Seating is sometimes tight considering the massive packs of dancers who come here regularly, but it's not too bad. The drinks themselves are solid. I hear most of the milk teas actually use non-dairy creamer by default, so lactose intolerant people rejoice. Best things here are the classic milk teas and the creamas IMO. They also have fruit teas but I feel like TeaOne just down Telegraph does those better. At one point a few years back, I'd have said Sharetea was the best boba in town, back when its only other competitors were Tea Press, Quickly's (now Boba Ninja), and Sweetheart. But now with a ton of high quality places close by like U-Cha, Asha, Gong Cha, and even its sister shop TeaOne, who all do better tasting tea with creamier flavors and fruitier fruit, Sharetea is now solidly second tier. This place is comparable to T4 in San Leandro, my current favorite boba joint in the Bay Area. You can customize your ice amount and sweetness here. I wish the boba wasn't as sweet, and that there was an option for a smaller cup size. I ordered the green milk tea with boba. It was delicious! The tapioca balls were a bit too sweet for my liking. Otherwise, the tea flavor is strong. It is a bit more expensive, but quality is also higher. It is nice that they accept card. They also have a reward system that you should join if you plan to frequent this location. Only street parking is available, and may be difficult since it is in the busiest part of Berkeley. Dare I declare this place as having the best milk tea and fruit tea in the East Bay? A regular milk tea with boba is so 1999. But this placed revived my love for milk tea with its unique choices you can't get anywhere else, fresh ingredients, and authenticity. Some of my favorites: Passionfruit, orange, and grapefruit tea (with plum)- absolute favorite! They use real fruit, so you'll see pulp and passionfruit seeds in the drink. I usually get it 30% or 50% sweet because I like the tartness. Okinawa milk tea- tastes like black milk tea with a hint of coffee Hokkaido milk tea- has a caramel or toffee-like taste to the milk tea Other things that are just as good but not staple favorites: tea creamas- the sea salt cream is a good balance with the sweetness of the drink. Wouldn't recommend going below 80% sweetness because of the salty cream. They only have one size cup- a large (thank goodness they don't use chubby cups) which makes up for the fact that their drinks are around $3-4. You can also customize the sweetness level and "iceness" level (as they put it). Sharetea was the first boba place I ever tried in Berkeley so it has a special place in my heart. After TeaOne was built in Esh, I started to go to TeaOne instead of Sharetea but I believe they are owned by the same person. Sharetea has a good range of teas and boba and I think one of their unique drinks is the oreo one. It is very similar to oreos and it can be on the sweeter side for some. I like the passionfruit green tea with boba and they let you choose the sugar and ice level. Upon reaching your destination, you see the line go out the door. It's full of """ABG""" dancer children in Adidas soccer pants and NMDs, wanting their boba after sweating buckets at practice. You see quite a few buggy-eyed children who may have just borderline overdosed on caffeine at the library, carrying backpacks twice their size. ShareTea in a nutshell This has been the go-to boba/drinks place near campus for the longest time, but just in the past year, the Bezerkeley boba game has grown, and ShareTea no longer reigns. Located on Bancroft, right across the street from the front of campus, it's in a super convenient place, and more often than not, the line is kinda long. But they take and put out orders pretty quickly!! This is the first place I ever got boba in this city I've had so many of the drinks here, but a few have stood out: - Mango & passion fruit green iced tea: First thing I ever got here and definitely my most ordered drink!! I've heard of ShareTea before and always see photos of the drinks, but never got the chance to try them out! I don't know of any that are in my area... I am SO glad I happened to be with people that have their favorites...my friend said his favorite is the Cocoa Cream (which looks like is a lot of people's favorite!) and that you could manage the sweetness and the amount of ice you want. I thought that was interesting! It's a little pricier than other boba/pearl places, like Tapioca Express or Quickly - but you're paying for quality! Oh, the chocolate-y goodness of this drink! They have an extensive menu, but my favorite is the standard milk tea. I get it with 50% ice and 50% sugar, which to me the perfect balance. If I want something sweeter, I'd opt for the Okinawa Milk Tea. They also frequently have fundraisers for student organizations on the Berkeley campus, where a portion of the profit goes towards the club. I came in for a snack in between classes, so I tried their new jian bing crepe (no meat). For those who don't know what that is, it's essentially a Chinese crepe made of eggs, with black sesame seeds on top. Inside the crepe however, is where the magic happens. There's like a sweet and spicy chili sauce within the crepe folds, along with a crispy cracker-like thing, finally garnished with green onions. However, I did not realize it came with TWO crepes. Yes. What I thought would be a snack has now turned into a meal. Keep that in mind if you do plan on ordering those crepes. The drinks here do NOT taste like other sharetea locations. They screwed up my matcha milk tea and it tasted warm, chalky, not sweet enough like I ordered and they skimped on the pudding toppings. I ended up throwing away my drink after only drinking 1/4 of it. WASTE. Alameda and San Mateo make the best drinks and are always consistent. Drinks are lousy here. I generally don't write bad reviews but the rude Asian girl with glasses took it to another level with me.... PROS -location CONS -Rude Asian girl with glasses gave us attitude and was condescending when we ordered. Maybe her glasses were too tight on her face, that's why she gave us stank attitude for no reason? We also had to wait to order bc she was too busy bossing the other guys around. -Matcha drinks tasted bland, chalky, warm and bad. The tea here used to be really good, but ever since tea one opened (same owners btw) the tea here got worse. It's really inconsistent and often tastes watered down. I used to love getting QQ happy family because it includes a bunch of toppings. The cashier that helped me the past few times also had a "I don't care" look on his face. Share Tea is Share Tea but I've found this Share Tea location to be the best one yet. The drinks are always consistent when I go and I never have much to complain about. This location is a bit smaller with the seating and what not. I tend to always either go for the regular milk tea or the mango crema. It's always fast and friendly service that never disappoints! I'm ALWAYS up-to-date when it comes to boba and I was JUICED when I heard this place was opening up because Berkeley seriously needed a step up from all the carcinogenic crap them other mediocre shops try to pass off as boba. Anybody and everybody that's somebody knows I always have boba in hand on the daily. I'm like Simon Cowell when it comes to reviewing boba shops, so this five-star is a first for me. The line here for the past three days since they first opened has been RIDIC. Bitches be hella hostile for no reason waiting in line and I'm over here just like shut up share the boba love, this is Sharetea we're talking about!! Like damn come correct children because sharing is caring. I'd think that the only reason the line was longer than a Justin Timberlake song was because of the BOGO promo they had, but I don't know how the lines will be after it ends. Truth of the matter is, that line would probably still extend out the doors and past the Career Center because the boba here is realer than Kim Kardashian's ass so get ready to stand around longer than the length of her marriage. At least an hour had passed before me and my boba squad made it to the door. The menu is a lot more extensive than most other boba places around the area, so you should pull up the menu on the Yelp page while you're waiting in line. I had the classic milk tea with regular boba (they have regular and small boba) and the oolong milk tea with herb jelly (which is just grass jelly). You can adjust the sweetness and ice levels here to your liking, but I like my drinks 100% sweet with extra ice. There's one too many ways to explain how perfect they were, so you'll just have to take my word on it and thank me later. You can't go wrong with one of these drinks. It was SO good that I wasn't about to share with NOBODY!! #teamstingy I didn't stick around to sit down, but the space is decked out!! Conveniently located across the street from campus and large enough to accommodate the Asian invasion that's taking over = instant BANK for Sharetea. Sharetea gives every boba business a reason to tremble (except maybe Sweetheart's because they still have the best pearls and serve food and stuff and maybe Asha's, because they serve an entirely different demographic and have ridiculously high quality teas). Anyway, if you're wondering what to order, these have been my favorites so far: Hot Handmade Taro with Fresh Milk and Pearls (30% sugar) Honey Green Tea with Pearls (80% honey) Okinawa Pearl Milk Tea (it's made with brown sugar instead of regular sugar and the level of sweetness cannot be customized for some reason) Matcha Red Bean Milk Tea with Pearls (0% sugar) What's interesting is that these items are ordered differently than in San Mateo. Over on the west side of the Bay, I'm able to get the Honey Green Tea with 30% honey, and the Matcha Red Bean Milk Tea drink already comes with boba. COLLEGE BUCKET LIST: Try everything on the menu before I graduate. Thank you for finally bringing good milk tea to Southside. Yes, it is pretty pricey, but you're getting your money worth with fresh tea instead of powder or watered down milk tea. The quality is fresh and the boba is cooked perfectly with just the right amount of chewy/sweetness. Bring a friend, it's kind of lonely standing in the sometimes-ridiculous long line by yourself. They don't call it Sharetea for no reasons :) (+) Matcha Green Tea Creama! I was very hesitant on getting this one because it's really easy to go wrong with powdered matcha green tea. However, it was perfect! It wasn't bitter at all or overly sweet (80% sweet). I don't get recommend getting the aloe vera topping with this because ....meh. I think the pudding or the boba would be a better fit. (+) Peach Green Tea Creama. The drink is definitely way too sweet at 100% so I recommend getting 80% or 50% sugar depending on how you like your tea. When you get your drink, use the small plastic knife provided to cut two slits on the top and drink it like how they show you instead of using your straw. This way, you can get a balance of both the cream at the top and the tea at the bottom. If you use your straw, you're only getting the tea and leaving the top untouched so it's a little bit bitter. I also prefer the aloe vera with the creama because it adds to the refreshing taste. (+) Mango Green Tea! I expected a watered down mango green tea drink but the mango flavor was surprisingly strong refreshing. I have to say I like the Mango GT BETTER than the Mango Creama. (+/) Strawberry Black Team Creama. Not sure if I love it or hate it but maybe I'm not a strawberry tea kind of person. Personally paid the consequences by forgetting to ask for 80% sugar because it was way too sweet ! At least now I know what the 100% sweet tastes like. (/) Fresh Taro Hot Milk Tea. They weren't kidding when they said fresh taro! I was literally sipping up taro chunks. Overall, the drink was meh. Wasn't amazing and wasn't boring. If you love taro then I think you should try it, especially on a cold day! (-) Regular green milk tea (Jasmine). Nothing too exciting about this drink. The jasmine green milk tea is my first go-to drink at any new store because it's a pretty good baseline. However, I wasn't entirely impressed with it at Sharetea (maybe because I'm also picky). I couldn't really taste the tea in this and it tasted more like watered down milk instead. (/) Happy Family Green Milk Tea. You will definitely get your money worth with this drink because there's literally just so many toppings in it! (without you paying extra for toppings like the other drinks). There's boba, pudding, herb jelly, red beans (?), etc. It might be a turnoff if you prefer your tea over toppings. I personally though it was just too much for me because I was just overwhelmed every time trying to figure out what I was drinking but it was worth a try. (/) Okinawa Milk Tea. This is one of the drinks where you can't customize your sugar level or else it will taste really bitter. I also wasn't entirely impressed with this drink (only because I prefer light tea flavors instead of heavy ones so it varies from person to person). It's a pretty heavy drink in terms of flavors. Overall, I feel like the milk tea is pretty average but their tea creama is pretty amazing. Finally! Something different than Asha with bright colorful flavors and better than purple kow!!!!! Sharetea- My hero! I was SO BORED of Asha. They don't have jelly. Their fruit teas are fresh but meh. They stopped selling mochi egg tarts (and the small and large portions at asha ARE ACTUALLY 90% the same) Purple kow is crap IMHO :) So Sharetea is constantly mobbed since it opened April 20th or so. Being a boba fanatic, I had to check it out. I have had: Okinawa-regular sweetness, brown sugarish taste, good boba. Yum. It was very flavorful. Hot or cold, it's a guest-pleaser. Mango passion fruit-very sweet, sour and bright. It tastes like a mango lollipop, but better, and with boba! Your mouth gets used to the flavor then it becomes addictive. Watch out for the seeds! You can eat them but it has a sunflower kernel texture. Kiwi-the blob of ice jelly was interesting.... I added boba. Pretty tasty and fresh and summery! Strawberry black tea- good. I always add lychee jelly for some reason... Lychee jelly-very fiber-ish.... But strangely fun to chew on. Oolong-sort of boring.... Very creamy. It basically tastes like 1/2 and 1/2. I would stick to Okinawa personally. Whole lemon tea- at first it was sour... But good at the same time. Watch out for seeds. I hate that the lemon takes up space and makes it hard to drink the pearls at the end. Mango crema- crema was too salty. Bleh! Not my thing... The idea is fun, but I like sugar only in my drinks.
