Very good and traditionally English with a classy modern take. Delicious and hearty. For desert, I got the Sticky Toffee Pudding, which I'm a sucker for. I had it the night before at another restaurant, The Ivy, and while it wasn't quite as good, it was really close. Very very good. Service was fine dining quality. Attentive and nice. I observed one server having fun with a table of people. That was nice to see. The one thing that was disappointing was the screaming family of kids behind me. I assume that's due to not only crappy parenting, but the location being at the O2. I would think it's better and more classy in central London. But not the restaurant's fault. Just ruined the atmosphere. They were running around on top of other booths. Just a bad look that maybe the restaurant should crack down on. We then ordered 3 side dishes to share between us - dauphinois potato, triple cooked chips and a portion of asparagus. All of it was cooked to perfection. The knife went through the steak like butter, the chips were delicious and the potatoes so tasty and the asparagus was perfect. I was getting quite full, with 3 steaks to eat, but I didn't want the meal to end, it was so delicious. The portion of chips was huge! We couldn't finish them. The potatoes were just addictive, I would happily have eaten it all over again. The restaurant soon filled up and I was actually really surprised at how busy it got. I naively didn't think that people frequented these local restaurants too often, but the place was really busy and according to our waitress, that was a quiet night! If only I could afford to eat here all the time! With it being a steak restaurant the price is more expensive than say going out for an Italian meal, but it was most definitely worth it. The interior and feel of this place is very dated. It looks straight out of the late 90's, early 2000's with stark color choices, no warmth to the space at all, and a general feel of wear and tear on everything; a few seconds is all it takes to start feeling some regret about your choices. Unfortunately the food confirms it. We tried some empanadas, both beef and the chicken+chorizo versions, and they were okay - I've had better almost everywhere. But the steak was the real let down. I chose the specialty cut of the ancho (Rib Eye) and while it look pretty tasty, the texture was good, and the temp was perfectly medium rare, there was almost no flavor at all to the meat. Chimichurri sauce did not help it nor did the name "Ancho" which suggests there is going to be some bold flavors kicking out of this steak. To be fair, British beef has been very underwhelming in general so the locals clearly need to start from a disadvantage but as many cuisines and chefs have demonstrated there is a lot you can do with an otherwise lower quality piece of meat - none of that knowledge is demonstrated here. However, it was a whopping 93 GBP for 600g, which is meant to share between 2 people, but still not that much (refer to my pic). This is simply just too high of a price for this. Bone marrow and onions (12 GBP) - This was surprisingly good. Although the marrow itself didn't have much of a flavor, it was a nice buttery consistency to spread on the bread. The onions were cooked very well. Sticky Toffee Pudding (9.50 GBP) - This was more of a bread like dessert than a pudding, but was tasty and not overly sweet despite the toffee (which is good). The staff are very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The service speed is pretty quick. The interior is decorated in a nice yet not too pretentious steakhouse style. There were still plenty of open tables available on a Sunday night. Overall, while the steak and food are very good, the steak is simply too overpriced to justify me getting it again. Nothing is worse than a steak that is over prepared to your liking. They served the steaks with 3 sauces- bernaise, pepper sauce, and bbq flavored sauce. The sauces were ok in flavor but I feel steak is best eaten with butter & salt and as minimal sauce as possible to enjoy the steak. A good steak doesn't require any sauce in my opinion. Although the steak was prepared to our liking - always a plus when dining out - what stood out the most was the service. Isabella (Zabella) was a fabulous server. She was accommodating and offered several choices. A few of the steaks we attempted to order were sold out and she offered alternatives which is always better than "sorry we're out". She was a lovely Italian who gave us friendly service in addition to travel advice to her home country. On top of the great service, the manager once again stopped by and offered us dessert and a drink as an apology for the delay in our food service. We definitely didn't expect this but happy to oblige when she offered. Price is always an important factor when choosing a restaurant, but service almost always supersedes that (within reason of course).
